>> dan and now, of course, it's no secret that bay area officials were very keen to put our best foot forward and impress our foreign visitors and now the entire region is set to benefit from many of the policies and agreements made during apec. it was a parade of planes at sfo friday as world leaders left san francisco following the apec summit. >> i think it went very well. we couldn't have expected much better in terms of how it turned out. >> for months, city leaders have been planning the international gathering. the biggest event the bay area has hosted in decades. they say by successfully pulling this off, our region is set to benefit for years to come with everything from new job opportunities to enhanced economic growth. i think what happens in the region in terms of opening markets and reducing trade frictions and facilitating investment, it is extremely important to our economy and its future. >> that spirit of working together for the benefit of everyone involved was a key theme of this year's summit and

something that was on display multiple times throughout the week. >> on friday, the prime minister of japan toured stanford and took time to have meetings with the ceos of several local tech companies. at an afternoon press conference attended by abc7 news, he highlighted the continued partnership between his home country and the bay area. >> the japan is the largest foreign direct investor investing country in california and is a vital partner in terms of trade. >> earlier in the day president biden had a sit down with the president of mexico. there they discussed how to stop the fentanyl crisis that's hammered cities across the country, including san francisco. >> so this is a matter of humanism. it's an act of solidarity. we are sincere, fully committed to continue to assist it. our fullest capacity to prevent drug trafficking. local leaders say hosting apec

is another way to push back against the doom loop narrative, reinforcing to our international guests that our region remains the hub for innovation and creativity the world over. >> hopefully these visitors will take that impression home and want to come back. san francisco mayor london breed has said that her office at spots that just this week alone, the apec summit, boosted the local economy over $50 million. and next year, apec will be down in peru. in the newsroom, tim johns, abc seven news. >> what an interesting week it's been, tim. all right. thanks very much. well, the apec summit was expected to bring more than 20,000 visitors. and as tim suggested there, generate $53 million for the local economy, according to san francisco travel. many small businesses south of market around the moscone center, where the convention took place, say that apec actually hurt them more than it helped the security fencing, concrete barriers and uniformed officers reportedly kept customers away. this apec may maybe going to help us, but

that we are getting wet right around rohnert park as well. and as we widen the picture here, there were thunderstorms that developed out late this afternoon and evening, rolled through the area and now we are looking at that area of low pressure just off the coast. our light storm is inching closer. finally on the move after days of being parked off the coast. here's what you can expect. widespread rain at 4 a.m, 6 a.m. it's going to be pounding the pavement with the possibility of some thunderstorms as well. so certainly gusty out there. gusts to 40 miles an hour. mount diablo, the thunderstorm threat will continue through tomorrow. it's a light level one storm, rain, heavy at times. thunderstorms gusty winds and minor roadway flooding. and i'll be back to let you know if the entire weekend is going to be a washout or if you'll get a break. coming up, ama. >> all right. we'll check back. thanks, sandhya. a daly city nonprofit is scrambling to organize relief aid to those impacted by the devastating 7.2 earthquake in the philippines. the filipino bayanihan center is asking anyone in the us to

donate to help families out there, many of which have lost their homes in the disaster. the quake knocked out cell service and internet, meaning some cannot reach their loved ones. >> i try to call them all the time, but i cannot reach them anymore. it's really sad because they are all my second family. they really think, you know, they're very close to me, very emotional. >> with apec going on, the president of the philippines and other country leaders had been here in san francisco. the ambassador to the us says they are still gathering new information on and don't know the death toll at the moment in the north bay, a new eye catching ad campaign is raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl in marin county. >> signs, fliers and posts went up asking the question on hey marin, wtf, where's the fentanyl? and the answer is everywhere. owed free marin. one of the nonprofits involved says it's designed to break the myth that fentanyl isn't a problem. there >> so we're just really strongly

trying to reduce the stigma around and addiction and around substance use disorders because if we don't do that, we really can't tackle this. if parents are like that would never be my kid. we are seeing progress in the world this week on this issue. >> president biden met with mexican president who pledged to stop ingredients used in fentanyl from passing into the united states. and chinese president xi jinping promised to go after companies making the chemicals that end up producing this deadly drug. >> comcast is the latest company to join major advertisers that are pulling their advertisements from x. this comes as lionsgate, disney, apple and ibm all pulled their ads due to hate speech and anti-semitic rhetoric shared on the platform, including from elon musk. just days ago, musk responded to a post about an anti-semitic concept known as the great replacement theory, calling it, quote, the actual truth. experts say they expect more companies to follow suit and pull their ads. a big shakeup in the artificial

she said she turned a blind corner to find the mama bear's head, about five inches from her waist. she later came across another hiker, and together they got the bears to go down a different trail. but it was nerve wracking, as you can imagine. well, thanksgiving is approaching quickly and it sure feels like we're already in the middle of the holiday season. when you look around the bay area, the rain tonight might have put a damper on some holiday plans, but there is still that holiday energy in the air. abc seven news reporter tara campbell has everything from trees to skating rinks, even potential new pets. >> well, we went to costco and we got our turkey from turkey trimmings to tree lightings. >> the bay area is getting into the holiday spirit in downtown san jose friday. the final touches were being put on an outdoor ice rink. >> just get ready to have fun and go ice skating. you know, it's a great experience for the whole family.

>> the rink will be surrounded by christmas in the park displays and winter wonderland amusement rides and will be open until mid-january. >> we have a grand opening on monday. and so today is just kind of a soft opening and let people experience it. and then monday, we'll have a grand celebration. >> and in downtown san francisco, people are already taking to the ice at union square. >> i love downtown. i love the holidays. and i think it's really sweet that we're here and we're just going to go ice skating. it just brings me like a lot of nostalgia and like just we like my family has a lot of traditions. and so like, especially around this time of year and if you're planning on flying this thanksgiving. >> officials at san francisco international airport say they're expecting numbers to near pre-pandemic levels for people that have been traveling at sfo the last few years, they're going to come back to a busier airport than they've seen for a while. >> and that means getting to the airport early is as important as ever. we always recommend allowing extra time getting here about two hours prior to your domestic departure for three hours. if you're flying international.

and that's welcome news for people hitting the road. the majority of people drive to their destinations as of friday, the national average for a gallon of regular gas was $3.33, according to triple a, that's down $0.55 over the last two months. and gasbuddy projects those average prices will continue to drop down to $3.25 or lower by thanksgiving day. here's the catch. if you are driving, expect a lot of company on the roads. triple a estimates just over 49 million americans will be driving to their destination this thanksgiving. this is a very busy forecast. airports are also expected to be packed. triple a predicts roughly 4.7 million americans will fly. atlanta's hartsfield jackson international airport, which is the busiest in the world, is bracing for the surge in travelers. >> we will have extra officers on duty to open additional screening lanes. >> a similar busy situation at dallas fort worth international airport. >> the winter holidays are really the second busiest time of the year for us.

>> so whether you're driving or flying to your destination, you know, the advice, give yourself plenty of time to get there and for those in the bay area, gas prices continue to drop and they are lower than a year ago in san francisco, gas now averages 5.18 per gallon. oakland is five. and for the least expensive gas is in san jose where it's under $5 per gallon at 4.95. >> we haven't seen that in a while. yeah. all right. new at 11. crab season is being delayed again by the state because of migrating whales off the coast. and in the northern part of the state. recreational crabbing is back on hold. also but this is because of poor meat quality. the earliest the season could begin is now the middle of december. this is the fifth consecutive year crab season is being delayed because of migrating whales. the fear is that they'll get caught up, of course, in the fishing lines and they want to protect them. the fda is now keeping a close watch on cinnamon imports. that's because of a growing number of illnesses reported in children from lead tainted applesauce. the fda is screening imports

from a number of countries for toxic lead contamination. officials believe the likely source of the high levels of lead in the cinnamon is from a manufacture era in ecuador. the recalled fruit products include pouches of wanna banana apple, cinnamon fruit puree and schnucks and weis brand cinnamon applesauce is one lake tahoe ski resort opened up today, giving the first chance to hit the slopes this season. >> boreal mountain resort is kicking off the winter sports after a bit of a delay. it was behind schedule because of the lack of snow accumulation in the resort has more than 15 snow guns to build up a thick enough base. it's made possible by the high elevation, colder conditions there. northstar and heavenly, both announced a delayed start to their ski season. >> so we'll see what happens as we progress. but for the moment, the question is how much more rain can we expect into the weekend? that's right. >> so let's get the answer from abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya yeah, we have another day of the activity that we saw today, dan and irma and

then you get a break for your sunday. >> so let me show you live doppler seven and we got thunderstorm arms and widespread rain tonight. now now rain is becoming very steady in the north bay and it is picking up in intensity. so let's get you in to where it is coming down marinwood. now north san pedro road. this is getting you into street level radar. we are seeing some pretty good rainfall right now. a nice soaking is coming, as you will notice, off the coastline. there's still quite a bit of moisture here all the way out here. and look what's showing up southwest of monterey. some thunderstorms, as a matter of fact. the weather service is keeping close tabs on this just in case this turns out to be even more. the area of low pressure is just off the coast line and it's heading towards us, which is why the activity has been picking up. we have an unstable air mass in place, thunderstorm prediction center is saying there's a pretty good likelihood of thunderstorms through tomorrow for most of california, which includes us. all right. last 24 hours, here's how much rain we have gotten,

60/700 of an inch in kentfield, a third of an inch in san francisco, sfo, three hundredths in san jose, a third of an inch at the oakland airport, 20/200. napa, a quarter of an inch there in santa rosa and a little more in ben lomond. your temperatures right now in the 50s and 60s with the south wind it is pretty mild. it's raining at blue canyon but the rain that you're seeing in the mountains right now is going to switch over to snow. we're already seeing some of that snow south of tioga pass . winter weather advisory will be going up for that area tomorrow for the sierra nevada by sunday, we're talking about six inches of snow at kirkwood, two inches at donner. that winter weather advisory begins at 4 p.m. tomorrow, runs until sunday morning. several inches above 6500ft, up to a foot for the peaks with those gusty winds, travel will be very difficult. carry the chains if you are going up and if you're hitting the roadways, definitely watch out. golden gate bridge is wet. widespread rain overnight with thunder, scattered showers. tomorrow afternoon. we're looking at a dry pattern. warmer

days next week. it's a level one on our storm impact scale for tonight. tomorrow, rain, heavy at times, thunderstorms gusty winds. and watch out for more minor roadway flooding. winds picking up 40 miles an hour along the coast. at 1:00 in the morning, you will notice still gusty winds at 4 a.m. as that low approaches. and then behind the system, winds switch direction from the south to the northwest, but still gusty tomorrow night. so let's time this out for you. here's when the heaviest rain hits. between 3 and 5 a.m. thunderstorm will likely be during this time period. scattered showers will continue as we head towards the late morning, early afternoon hours, but they'll become very isolated in nature for later in the day. so you don't have to worry about it if you do have outdoor activities later on in the day. rainfall totals, additional rain, i should say, about a half an inch to an inch. santa cruz mountains over an inch and a half your morning temperatures, 40s and 50s windy. watch out for thunder tomorrow afternoon. just some scattered showers still gusty 50s and 60s
