we're excited to have our friend erielle reshef back on the desk once again in for janai on maternity leave. >> erielle: hi, janai. i hope you're sleeping. two of the best in the business. >> whit: we have a lot to cover this morning including sean "diddy" combs settling that explosive sex abuse lawsuit. >> gio: we're also following the fallout from elon musk's anti-semitic post. we'll have more on that. >> erielle: but we begin with the record number of travelers expected to take to the skies and the roads across the country this thanksgiving holiday. still, there are some strategies out there to help you avoid the crowds. we have team coverage for you this morning. jaclyn lee has the best and worst times to hit the road. somara takes a look at the storm that could impact the holiday travel, but first let's go to abc's phil lipof at newark airport where airlines and tsa are bracing for a crush of flyers. good morning, phil. >> reporter: good morning,

erielle. bracing, indeed. anybody who travels frequently knows an airport can be tough to navigate on a normal day, but over this coming week or so, airports in newark and new jersey all across the country will be bracing for that holiday rush. the tsa estimating about 30 million passengers in airports during the thanksgiving holiday, and that's up 9% from this time last year. a quick heads-up for travelers, the busiest day at the airports will be wednesday when the faa is expecting more than 49,000 flights will be taking off coast to coast. tsa's busiest day expected to be the sunday after thanksgiving. agents estimating they will screen 2.9 million flyers in that single day, and this travel season, a staffing shortage for air traffic controllers causing some concern. just this week a new federal report calling on the faa to take, quote, urgent action following 23 close calls this year alone. still, industry experts we speak with say the

airlines are prepared after two years of robust staffing, and how about this, who doesn't like a bargain during the holiday season? lyft has already announced an on-time pickup promise in many major markets. that's if they don't pick you up on time for a scheduled run to the airport, they will pay you in credits, sometimes up to 100 bucks, gio. >> gio: that's a pretty good deal. all right, phil, thank you very much. all about driving to your destination and the right times to hit the roads. abc's jaclyn lee is in los angeles with a look ahead at the holiday traffic and how to avoid it. good morning, jaclyn. please tell us how to avoid it. >> reporter: yeah, i will try. good morning, gio. what would thanksgiving be without a little road trip? we are expecting a record number of travelers with aaa projecting more than 49.1 million people driving to their destination, up 1.7% from last year. the busiest day to be behind the wheel is expected to be on wednesday with the worst travel time between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m.,

therefore, the best time to get to your destination would be before 11:00 a.m., and with thanksgiving on thursday, experts recommend traveling before 10:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m., and over the thanksgiving weekend, the worst time to find yourself sitting in traffic will be between 3 and 5 in the afternoon. the good news is if you do have to sit in traffic, the good news, gas prices are going down and hit our peak at $3.87 in mid-august and been going down ever since. whit. >> whit: we'll take that silver lining, jaclyn, thank you. of course, it wouldn't be a thanksgiving without some rough weather to consider, so a cross-country storm could threaten some holiday travel plans, and let's go to somara theodore with a look at the holiday week forecast. somara, good morning. >> somara: yes, so let's start in california. that's where this cross-country storm begins. this morning they're waking up to a good amount of rain pushing through cities like san francisco, even as far south as arizona, and throughout the day you could see high elevation snow in parts of the mountains and sierra, then that snow moves into the rockies.

by monday that is when we are seeing the threat for an elevated risk for severe weather, okay, so from shreveport into memphis, houston, parts of missouri, flash flooding is possible and also bringing the threat of tornadoes. here's the big travel day, phil and jaclyn both said, wednesday is going to be the biggest day for travel. look what we're dealing with, one to three inches along the i-95 corridor and threat of snow into new england, so roads, sky, expect delays, so give yourself time. >> erielle: talking about snow already. somara, thank you. to the war in gaza and new developments overnight surrounding the al shifa hospital. patrick reevell is in sderot, israel, with the latest this morning. good morning, patrick. >> reporter: good morning, erielle. we can hear a lot of explosions coming from gaza just as we stand here. as you say, yes, news coming from al shifa hospital where hundreds of patients and civilians have been trapped since israel took control there. hundreds of patients this morning now fleeing the hospital. the hospital says after israel

ordered them to leave, but israel strongly denying that and still no agreement now on a deal for freeing those hostages held by hamas. this morning, an exodus from gaza's largest medical complex. hundreds of patients fleeing al shifa hospital. some seen carrying white flags. gaza's hamas-run health ministry saying they were ordered to evacuate by israeli forces, that they were given just an hour to get out. the israel defense forces denying they gave an order saying the hospital requested an evacuation. now, 120 patients, those too fragile to move, left at the hospital including nearly three dozen premature babies, five medical staff staying behind to provide care. the idf saying it is also providing medical supplies. the idf at al shifa for four days now searching for evidence of hamas' presence saying, they discovered this tunnel near its entrance. israel under pressure to justify its actions at the hospital amid the humanitarian catastrophe in gaza. the few remaining hospitals

overflowing. the hamas-run gaza health ministry saying the death toll now over 12,000, and israel yielding to a u.s. request to allow some fuel into gaza as shortages mean communications, water, and sewage systems are failing, but the amount nowhere near enough, only two tankers a day. thousands attending the funeral of noa marciano. israel said they found her body and that of another body near al shifa hospital. as negotiations continue, many whose loved ones were taken marching to jerusalem from tel aviv. these are the families of the hostages held by hamas in gaza. they're demanding that the israeli government try and find a deal to release them. shelly shem tov pleading for her 21-year-old son. >> and we want answers. we want answers. >> and i cannot deal with this situation.

nobody, no mother, no mother needs to feel like we feel. >> reporter: the families set to arrive today in jerusalem for a major protest. we understand that the current deal on the table would see hamas free around 50 hostages in exchange for a three-day cease-fire, but we understand that there is a split in the israeli war cabinet with some members demanding a larger release of hostages, so that means no deal for now, gio, and an agonizing wait for those hostages' families. >> gio: almost a month and a half of being held hostage. all right, patrick, thank you so much. and here at home pressure is building on republican congressman george santos ahead of another vote that could expel him. abc's jay o'brien joins us now from capitol hill with more on that. good morning, jay. >> reporter: good morning, gio. we're hearing from more and more of george santos' own congressional colleagues this morning calling for his removal in the wake of that scathing ethics report. this morning, congressman george santos now facing a serious second push led by his own party

to kick him out of congress. the motion introduced yesterday by republican congressman michael guest, chair of the house ethics committee, a day after his panel released a scathing 56-page report alleging santos used campaign funds to line his own pockets and cover extravagant expenses, like approximately $10,000 in purchases at designer stores, ferragamo and hermes. nearly $3,000 for botox, and what the report calls smaller purchases at the website, only fans. the revelations causing more lawmakers to call for santos' ouster than ever before. congresswoman nicole malliotakis joined with other republicans and democrats to vote against removing the new york congressman just weeks ago. now after the report, she's convinced he has to go. >> we were able to see that he inappropriately used donor money for all these other

things for personal gain, and that was enough for us to say he should no longer be serving as a member of congress. >> reporter: santos, who's already pled not guilty to federal charges he misused campaign 23u7dzs, calling the bipartisan report a politicized smear, but announcing he won't run for re-election in 2024. that vote to expel santos expected when lawmakers return here to the capitol after the thanksgiving holiday. gio. >> gio: jay, while we have you, let's talk about speaker mike johnson here, because he announced yesterday that the house is releasing more than 40,000 hours of security camera tapes from the january 6th attack online. what more do we know about that decision? >> reporter: yeah, this was something that far right members of congress had long pushed for, and speaker johnson said it was a promise he made when he ran for his current job. now, much of this video, which shows the inside of the capitol during the capitol attack, has already been put out by the department of justice, as well

as pored over by the january 6th committee and even conservative commentator, tucker carlson, all of the more than 40 plus hours of video will be available online as of monday according to the speaker. >> whit: jay o'brien for us, thank you. now to the former yoga instructor convicted of murder. kaitlin armstrong receiving a hefty sentence after what was an emotional trial. abc's zohreen shah is in our l.a. bureau with the details. zohreen, good morning. >> reporter: whit, kaitlin armstrong escaped to another country and tried changing her identity. she even attempted escaping from jail, but in the end prison is where she's going to spend the rest of her life. she was sentenced to close to a century behind bars. >> this court hereby sentences you to -- >> reporter: this former former yoga teacher kaitlin armstrong sentenced in a texas courtroom to 90 years in prison for murdering professional cyclist anna moriah "mo" wilson, a woman she believed was romantically

linked to her boyfriend, colin armstrong. >> we the jury found the defendant kaitlin armstrong guilty of the -- >> reporter: after the judge handed down the verdict on thursday, karen wilson testifying in the sentencing phase about the impact of her daughter's death. >> when you shot moriah in the heart, you shot me in my heart. >> reporter: in a trial that lasted for three weeks, state prosecutors painted a disturbing portrait of armstrong, who shot wilson in the head and chest in a jealous rage in may of 2022. >> the last thing mo did on this earth was scream in terror. those screams were followed by pow, pow. >> reporter: armstrong's vehicle was captured on video near the scene of the murder. she fled to costa rica, even getting plastic surgery to evade authorities. >> never seen so much evidence in my life against one person. >> reporter: the jury taking less than three hours to return their verdict after prosecutors proved armstrong ambushed and killed wilson. the wilson family walking arm in

arm outside the austin courtroom on friday relieved that justice had been served. >> selfless manipulation, jealousy, and hatred never lead to positive outcomes. >> reporter: this was an incredibly emotional trial. prosecutors at one point bringing up wilson's close friend, who found her body. she said she tried as hard as she could to revive her. wilson's loved ones inconsolable throughout making a very strong case for that verdict and the sentencing. erielle. >> erielle: zohreen shah there in los angeles for us, thank you. and just a day after music mogul sean "diddy" combs was accused of sexual assault and years of abuse in a new lawsuit filed by r&b singer cassie, word of a settlement overnight. abc's morgan norwood is here with the update. good morning, morgan. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you, erielle. though cassie and diddy did not detail the terms of that agreement, the settlement quickly shuts down the potential for a trial and

process of legal discovery. that's when evidence in the case is often made public. ♪ i thought i told you that we won't stop ♪ ♪ i thought i told you that we won't stop ♪ >> reporter: overnight hip-hop mogul sean combs settling a bombshell sexual abuse lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, fellow singer, cassie. cassandra ventura writing in a statement, i have decided to resolve this amicably on terms i have some level of control. i want to thank my family, friends, and lawyers for their unwavering support. combs known as diddy or puff daddy adding in his own statement, i wish cassie and her family all the best, love. ♪ we going live can't stop won't stop ♪ ♪ told ya ♪ >> reporter: the settlement just one day after ventura accused the singer of rape, domestic violence, and sex trafficking citing controlling behavior that she says lasted over a decade while she was signed to diddy's record label and the two were in a romantic relationship. ♪ in the lawsuit filed thursday,

ventura alleged that after the two met back in 2005, combs lured miss ventura into an ostentatious, fast-paced, and drug-fueled lifestyle and into a romantic relationship with him and that he used illegal substances and threats of violence to force ms. ventura into repeated, unwanted sexual encounters with male sex workers. combs denying the allegations, his attorneys describing them in a statement as riddled with baseless and outrageous lies aiming to tarnish mr. combs' reputation. right after the lawsuit was filed several artists and entertainers have voiced their support for cassie. ventura's attorney saying in a statement friday, i am very proud of ms. ventura for having the strength to go public with her lawsuit. she ought to be commended for doing so. gio. >> gio: all right. morgan, thank you so much. now to those major companies halting their advertising on x, which used to be twitter, following elon musk's endorsement of an anti-semitism post. alexis christoforous is here

with more on that. good morning, alexis. >> reporter: overnight an exodus of major companies pulling their ads from x, formerly known as twitter, after owner elon musk described an anti-semitic post this week on the site as, quote, the actual truth and once again lashed out at the anti-defamation league. among those pausing ads on the platform, lionsgate and disney and "the new york times" reporting that apple and paramount have also suspended their ads and the companies follow ibm, which stopped ads on x thursday. the white house releasing a statement in response to musk's tweet saying in part, we condemn this abhorrent promotion of anti-semitic and racist hate in the strongest terms, which runs against our core values as americans. elon musk posting on x last night, at risk of stating the obvious, anyone advocating the genocide of any group will be suspended from this platform, and in a separate post, ceo linda yaccarino saying, x has been extremely clear about our efforts to combat anti-semitism and discrimination.

abc's reena roy is here now with a preview. good morning, reena. >> reporter: hey, erielle. good morning to you. this is a brand-new track built along the sin city strip, so the drivers are getting their chance to become as familiar as they can be before they face off in the big race. >> we have six past midnight. qualifying is under way. >> reporter: overnight drivers testing their luck in the heart of las vegas in qualifiers for the city's inaugural grand prix. >> they weren't expecting miracles here, but they were expecting better than that. >> reporter: the qualifiers determining the racers' starting positions in tonight's race. team ferrari taking the first and second spots. >> mclaren, 132.7. >> reporter: charles leclerc with the pole position. >> of course, happy, yeah, for the first in las vegas, incredible, starting from pole tomorrow is great. >> reporter: in second, carlos sainz after being penalized ten spots in the starting grid thursday night.

housekeeper, who died after a fall at the murdaugh home. >> whit: and the north carolina field hockey team has claimed a spot in the ncaa championship game. 23-year-old erin matson moved from the field to the bench this year taking on the role as head coach to the top ranked tar heels. she's now the youngest coach in the ncaa at 23 years old. that's pretty amazing. >> gio: that's amazing. >> whit: that's incredible, huh? >> gio: it sure is. we take a look at the top political headlines and abc's deputy political director averi harper is not sick of us yet. she's back with that. welcome back. >> good morning. >> gio: let's start with congressman george santos. of course, in our last half hour, we were talking about that house investigation alleging he used campaign donations for botox, purchases at ferragamo, hermes, even only fans. other attempts to expel him have not worked. is this any different? >> well, there is a high bar in order for santos to be expelled from the house of representatives. they need at least two-thirds of

the house members to vote in favor of expulsion in order to remove him, so i think we're going to see some of the math change on this, especially because of some of the findings of that ethics committee report that are very damaging, so there's some lawmakers who indicated that they were not in favor of expulsion before who are now indicating they could vote yes on this. in terms of political implications, this seat, the new york congressional district, the third congressional district is one that is credited with the razor thin majority for republicans in the house, and so regardless of whether there is going to be a special election or we're going to wait till 2024, there will lots of heavy investment from both parties to figure out who will replace george santos. at last check, there are 20 folks on both sides of the aisle vying to replace him. >> whit: that should be interesting. let's talk about the government shutdown that did not happen, because president biden signed that stopgap spending bill to avert it, however, this is another one of those continuing resolutions and kick the can down the road. what happens next? >> right, well, they signed what they call a laddered continuing resolution.

that's just a really complicated way to say this is a temporary fix that funds the government in two different parts, so some agencies are going to be funded through january 19th, and others are going to be funded through february 2nd. it does kick the can down the road and gives lawmakers more time to strike a more long-term deal. it is really important to note in this deal there is not funding for the war in israel with hamas. there's not funding for ukraine. there's not funding for humanitarian aid for palestinian people, and so i think we can expect for lawmakers to make a separate push for that before the year is over. >> erielle: and a lot of people will have their eyes on that. president trump has successfully beaten back attempts to keep him off the ballot in michigan so far, minnesota, and now we're talking about colorado. >> right, in colorado we saw just like in michigan and minnesota, we saw a judge there ruled in favor of former president trump saying that he can be on the ballot in colorado. this all has to do with the 14th amendment. there is a clause within it that say that folks who participate in an insurrection or
