s pannullo faces rhianan thomas from downey, california, and marianne dos santos from ottawa, ontario, canada. captioned by los angeles distribution and broadcasting, inc. as rain moves in and gives some places a soaking. this was the weather that at least one community was looking for. good evening. i'm j.r. stone. a soggy saturday in the bay area as rain rolled in and continued off and on throughout the day. spencer christian joins us now for a first look at your forecast. all right, j.r, we've certainly had some soggy spots, but right now the storm is winding down and so here's a look at live doppler seven. >> you can see just a few little

pockets of light showers swinging through the bay area. nothing like what we saw just a few hours ago when there was a lot more green on the screen. the on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale this system is still a level one storm even though it's almost over. so for the remainder of tonight, we expect periods of light scattered showers, gusty northwest winds, though we've certainly got those and maybe an additional 2 or 3 hundredths of an inch of rainfall. here's a forecast animation starting at 1130. notice by midnight or certainly shortly thereafter, we expect to see no rainfall at all. and even the clouds will disappear and skies will be at least partly sunny by the start of the morning. tomorrow so i'll give you a complete a look at the complete accuweather seven day forecast, which is going to be pretty dry and pretty sunny. >> and j.r. spencer, we look forward to that. thank you so much. downpour since saturday were heavy at times there was considerable rainfall in the north bay where some events were cut short. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard tells us thanks to the storm. one fire department is closing the books on this year's peak wildfire

season. >> heavy rain overnight drenching parts of santa rosa for hours. this person was braving the elements on a bike. the storm making for some dangerous roadway conditions in san francisco. this tree limb snapped off, falling on a parked car near leavenworth and bush streets, blocking the intersection for a time. when the sun came up, the rain was still falling. what do you think of the rain? i'm enjoying it, actually. >> i'm enjoying all of the rain. >> it was a super challenging morning drive for cameron ferris , who commutes from american canyon to san rafael. >> it was a little misty, i will say. >> it was a little misty. i had to turn those windshield wipers on pretty high. all right. 3 to 2. one. and you guys around the annual thanksgiving kayak race through the canals of san rafael went on despite the rain. >> but the race hosted by 101 surf sports had to be shortened and fewer people took part because of the weather. it probably only cost us about ten

cease fire to free dozens of women and children held hostage in gaza. the report says the agreement is being brokered by the us. it calls for releasing at least 50 hostages. they'd be released in batches every 24 hours, over five days. there are beliefs that as many as 239 hostages are held by hamas, and the deal does not include military personnel or men. the release could begin within the next several days. a pause in fighting would allow for much needed humanitarian relief to get into gaza. meanwhile a bay area man is holding out hope that some of his relatives who are being held hostage by hamas are going to be released. but he recently learned at least one of them is not going to be coming home. abc seven news reporter tara campbell spoke with him earlier today. >> calls from jerusalem and tel aviv saturday for the safe return of more than 200 hostages still being held by hamas.

>> i can't imagine there are babies there that can be brought home. this in wake of the israeli defense forces announcing it found two of the hostages dead. a loss felt right here in the bay area. >> this is everybody's nightmare. oren rubenstein's referring to his relative, 65 year old hostage yehudit weiss, whose body was found in a house near al-shifa hospital. >> i think the hope and dreams of every single family that has hostages is that they come home alive. and that's been the hope for this pacifica resident putting up these posters of the hostages throughout san francisco. three of the posters are three more of his relatives kidnaped when hamas attacked kibbutz berri, killing more than 100 people. you have three other relatives. where does it leave you with them? well i'm going there and i'll be there on tuesday. >> and like here, there are vigils and marches and rallies and demands of their government

abc seven news on the peninsula multi-faith and local leaders took part in a vigil tonight showing solidarity with the israeli people. >> one of them saying they are coming together to stand up against hate, against passed anti-semitism and mourn the loss of life. >> part of the power of this evening is the fact that so many different faiths based communities have stepped forward to say, we want to be with you. we want to stand with you. we're here together, and in our community. we won't allow hatred and bigotry and anti-semitism to exist. >> they gathered at saint bartholomew catholic church, representing 12 different faith organizations, a christian catholic, muslim and jewish communities. it's thanks to a multi-faith coalition in san mateo county, which works together on a variety of issues throughout the year. now ceasefire down, ceasefire down. this was the scene at the california democratic endorsing convention in sacramento. protesters made their way into

the safe credit union convention center and disrupted the assembly, demanding an immediate ceasefire in the israel-hamas war. inside the convention, leaders, california's democratic party were preparing to endorse future candidates for the upcoming election. artists in berkeley hosted a holiday gift bazaar today in support of palestinian families. the event included an auction for a live painting. artist also sold a range of ancient crafts, including saran mix, jewelry and scarves and there was a live two trees demonstration, which is a type of traditional palace indian embroidery. the middle east children's alliance, or mecha, has hosted this bazaar for 20 years in the east bay, a memorial service was held today to mark 45 years since the jonestown massacre. the senseless tragedy led by cult leader jim jones, occurred in guyana in 1978. 918 people were

killed, including including more than 300 children. some were shot, but many died by cyanide poisoning. today's service was held at evergreen evergreen cemetery in oakland, which is the final resting place for more than 400 victims whose bodies were never claimed. happening now, crews are out removing security measures for the apex summit, which wrapped up yesterday. city said the removal of barricades and fencing will happen over the next two days. it expects all roads, sidewalks, parking garages and muni services to return to normal by monday morning. despite street closures, there were no major traffic backups due to the conference. there were some isolated injuries during protests, but most were peaceful. the apex summit included members from 21 global economies working together to promote trade and economic growth across the pacific region . apec has ended, but not all summit attendees are gone.

today. some took part in a gathering for asian american leaders and organizations. abc seven's own dion lim emceed today's national asian and pacific islander elected officials summit. guests included house representatives ted lieu, judy chu and yong kim as well as high ranking officials from across the us. the goal of the conference is to promote civic engagement for asian americans as well as other causes, including social justice and equal opportu munities. >> what it shows is that apis are becoming civically engaged. they want their voices to be heard and they're weighing in on very important issues like combating anti-asian hate. >> the aapi elected officials summit will run through tomorrow. still ahead on abc7 news at 11:00, legal troubles are beginning to pile up for a bay area refinery. why it could soon be facing a lawsuit. also a little later, we are entering the holiday season. should you

gpt founder is now back in talks with the board to return as ceo. this comes after public criticism over the firing as well as open. ai's co-founder, greg brockman, immediately resigned in protest. brockman is also in discussions about returning to the company after altman's firing. openai released a statement saying the founder

was, quote, not always truthful in his communications with the board. new at 11 local and state officials are taking serious action against the martinez refining company. it comes after two toxic releases in just the past 12 months. abc seven news reporter anser hassan spoke to the bay area congressman john garamendi to discuss what's at stake. armagnac bullfrog lives near downtown martinez, which can be a great place to walk. >> his dog. he also lives half a mile from the martinez refining company. i think there's a difference between now and before. >> there were always releases periodically, but it's been much , much more frequent. >> those releases, like the one that happened in july, are also the concern of the contra costa county district attorney's office. it announced a joint civil enforcement action against the martinez refining company, which could potentially lead to a lawsuit. >> i'm glad they're doing the enforcement because it seems like there's a lower level of investment in the refinery. the releases are more frequent.

something's wrong. >> this joint civil action involves multiple agencies, including the bay area air quality management district, department of fish and wildlife and the contra costa county health department. contra costa county district attorney dana beckton states the goal of this joint effort with the air district is to achieve a resolution that ensures environmental compliance and to rebuild and foster a safer community. for the residents of martinez, it's a very, very important step by the county to in force its health requirements . >> these are county ordinances that these refineries in contra costa county must obey. in the case of this particular refinery, it did not. >> us congressman john garamendi , who represents parts of contra costa county, asserts that the refinery did not properly monitor or maintain its equipment for towing a 20 ton toxic powder release last year on thanksgiving day, guerra mendez cosigned a letter to pbf

energy, the parent company of the refinery, in it, stating, we are concerned that this failure to notify local officials in a timely manner may demonstrate a lack of preparedness at the martinez refining company. and then came the coke dust release this summer, which indicates to me that they have not yet done the kind of remedial work necessary to operate their refinery in a manner that is safe for the community. in an email to abc7 news, the martinez refining company acknowledged the joint civil enforcement action stating we do not have any further details and therefore cannot comment other than to reiterate our continued cooperation in with all agencies regarding these matters in martinez, anser hassan abc seven news. >> a popular lake tahoe ski resort is backtracking on its exclusive membership plan after facing months of controversy for it. the sf chronicle reports

>> i love the dickens fair. you know i love you know everybody wears the outfits. >> you just feel like old school. >> you feel like you've been carried back to that period of time. >> and hopefully if you're wearing those outfits, you don't get wet getting them. that's right. >> not now. not now, because this storm is winding down. here's a look at live doppler seven. you know, j.r. we've had rain every day, not all day, but every day for the last five days. and this is probably the end of it. and here's why. the low pressure system cut off from the upper level steering current has been just meandering here off shore for several days now. it's finally beginning to push a little bit away from us and it's not guiding so much moisture in our direction. it's going to be replaced by a big area of high pressure building out behind that low. that's what's going to push that low out of here. so the showers we have right now are winding down, as you can see, on live doppler seven. nonetheless, because we still have some storm activity on the exclusive abc storm impact scale. this is a level one storm and for the remainder of tonight and there's not much left of tonight, we expect areas of light scattered showers. gusty wind, though, will be with us

during the overnight hours and the additional rainfall totals will be one, two, maybe three hundredths of an inch of rainfall. so we'll start the forecast animation at 1130. and notice by even by then, it'll be just about all over and certainly during the overnight hours, skies will become clearer and we'll start the day tomorrow with lots of sunshine. rainfall totals once again. generally 1 or 2 hundredths of an inch, but a little bit wetter way up north in clear lake and ukiah north bay has received more rain from this system than any other region. and there is snow, mainly light, though, over in the sierra. so winter weather advisory is in effect there until 4 a.m. most locations above 6500 or 7000ft will receive about 1 to 4in of snow. higher totals in the really, really high elevations. back to our surface wind speeds right now. these are current winds, gusts to 23mph at novato and half moon bay. so it's pretty breezy all across the region and several degrees cooler right now. as you can see on the 24 hour temperature change. then at this time last night. so let's move along live view from the

fukuzaki with our sister station in los angeles is in vegas for the race. >> thank you very much. and greetings from las vegas. f1 dropped the green flag just over an hour ago to kick off the las vegas grand prix. charles leclerc started from the pole. of course, we can't show you any of the race as it's going on live right now on espn. and we certainly have enjoyed watching the f1 cars hitting speeds of 200 miles an hour from our perch here at mclaren's party at vista, las vegas. now, earlier tonight, las vegas officials went through the paces of closing down the strip for a third straight night. and that was a cue for f1 fans to find a spot to watch tonight's grand prix. this, of course, is the first time f1 has run in las vegas in 40 years and under a crisp mid november night. the conditions and look are certainly unique. race fans have embraced. >> i mean, i think they did a

at the party. but the party continues, as does the race, the las vegas grand prix here in the desert for our abc7 news, i'm rob fukuzaki. >> rob, great stuff. enjoy vegas. new developments tonight in the united auto workers. labor deal with ford motor company. 639% of ford's union members voted in favor to ratify the new agreement. that sharply contrasts with the votes that general motors, which showed only 55, voted in favor of a similar deal. members in stellantis detroit's third largest automaker, will also be voting soon on their contract. eight strikers at all three automakers have since returned to work. an explosive second test flight for the space mega rocket starship. the starship designed to bring nasa astronauts to the moon. launching from texas this morning. and as abc's phil lipof explains, this one also ended

with a bang. >> spacex launched its mega rocket starship saturday morning from south texas. its second test flight to one. company officials said it successfully lifted off under its own power. the booster then separated and the rocket ship reached space before communication was lost. eight minutes in. the spacecraft experienced a, quote, rapid unscheduled disassembly, then exploded via the self destruct system over the gulf of mexico at nearly 400ft. starship is the biggest and most powerful rocket ever built. the first test flight of starship. this past april ended in an explosion shortly after liftoff. but since then, spacex has made dozens of improvements to the booster and its 33 engines. as well as the launch pad. spacex founder elon musk taking to his social media platform, calling the launch a success, posting several images of the rocket as it soared into space and congratulating everyone who worked on the
