certainly cooler than yesterday. and we're looking at some wind already building along the coast as high pressure builds in. low pressure is fading away. and the tug between the two gradients allowing for some wind to contend with today. here's a look outside where it is nice and bright. 54, san francisco, 55, oakland and mountain view, as well as san jose and half moon bay and a look in santa cruz in the low 50s right now. beautiful beach shot with 50 santa rosa 51 in napa and livermore at 50 degrees. so compared to yesterday with the south winds, the clouds, it is a cooler day as much as 11 degrees cooler to start out. and then the winds are already breezy at 21 miles an hour. half moon bay, these are surface winds. oakland 22 miles an houric backdrop there. the sierra nevada with some fresh snow. we'll see sunny skies, increasing wind and clouds today. and details on the holiday week ahead in a few minutes stephanie, lisa, thank you. >> a public health advisory is now lifted for parts of contra costa county. it's after a fire overnight at the marathon

refinery in martinez sparked concerns over chemical releases as the county said, any potential release could affect people with respiratory illnesses or sensitivity. the area is under the advisory where martinez pacheco, concord and clyde company officials say that fire was under control at 130 this morning. one person was hurt and airlifted to an area hospital. the company says they will be investigating the fire to figure out what caused it. while that fire is being investigated, local and state officials are taking action against another refining company, the martinez refining company has been in the headlines after two toxic releases in the past year and an earlier broadcast. we mistakenly linked the two businesses, but we want to make it clear the martinez refining company is not affiliated with marathon's martinez facility. abc seven news reporter anser hassan spoke to bay area congressman john garamendi to discuss the issue at hand. okay armagnac bill froehlich lives near downtown

martinez, which can be a great place to walk his dog. >> he also lives half a mile from the martinez refining company. i think there's a difference between now and before. >> there were always releases periodically, but it's been much, much more frequent. >> those releases like the one that happened in july, are also the concern of the contra costa county district attorney's office. it announced a joint civil enforcement action against the martinez refining company, which could potentially lead to a lawsuit. >> i'm glad they're doing the enforcement because it seems like there's a lower level of investment in the refinery. the releases are more frequent. some things wrong. >> this joint civil action involves multiple agencies, including the bay area air quality management district, department of fish and wildlife and the contra costa county health department. the contra costa county district attorney dana beckton states the goal of this joint effort with the air district is to achieve a resolution that ensures environmental compliance and to rebuild and foster a safer community. for the residents of martinez, it's a very, very

important step by the county to enforce this. >> its health requirements. these are county ordinances that these refineries in contra costa county must obey. in the case of this particular refiner, it did not us congressman john garamendi, who represents parts of contra costa county, asserts that the refinery did not properly monitor or maintain its equipment following a 20 ton toxic powder release last year on thanksgiving day, garamendi cosigned a letter to pbf energy, the parent company of the refinery, in it stating, we are concerned that this failure to notify local officials in a timely manner may demonstrate a lack of preparedness. >> es at the martinez refining company. and then came the coke dust release this summer, which indicates to me that they have not yet done the kind of remedial work necessary to

operate their refinery in a manner that is safe for the community. in an email to abc seven news, the martinez refining company acknowledged the joint civil enforcement action, stating, we do not have any further details and therefore cannot comment other than to reiterate our continued cooperation with all agencies regarding these matters. in martinez, anser hassan, abc seven news. >> well, saturday's downpours may have impacted some of your plans, but the good news one fire department says it's closing the books on this year's peak wildfire season because of that rain. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard shows us the weekend impact heavy rain overnight drenching parts of santa rosa for hours this person was braving the elements on a bike. >> the storm making for some dangerous roadway conditions in san francisco. this tree limbs snapped off, falling on a parked car near leavenworth and bush streets, blocking the intersection for a time when the

sun came up, the rain was still falling. what do you think of the rain? i'm enjoying it, actually. >> i'm enjoying of the rain. >> it was a super challenging morning drive for cameron ferris , who commutes from american canyon to san rafael. >> it was a little misty, i will say. >> it was a little misty. i had to turn those windshield wipers on pretty high. >> all right, 3 to 1 and you guys around the annual thanksgiving kayak race through the canals of san rafael went on despite the rain. >> but the rays, hosted by 101 surf sports had to be shortened and fewer people took part because of the weather. it probably only cost us about ten people, but we still had 33 hearty people come out and race. >> rainfall totals were impressive in sonoma county overnight. >> the city got about an inch and a half of rain. >> wet weather has produced wildfire danger, so much in santa rosa. the fire department declared an end to the 2023 wildfire season this week, but

we are ready at any time to transition back into that wildland preparedness if needed. >> if weather was to change and we start getting some warmer weather for now, seems the bay area's rainy season is definitely back in the north bay. >> cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> a reminder you can keep track of the weather any time with the same live doppler seven radar. lisa uses. it's available on demand on the abc7 bay area app. you can download it wherever you stream. developing news now in the war between israel and hamas . we're taking a live look at the western wall in jerusalem. you see dark skies as it's just after 7:00 pm in israel right now. the washington post reports israel and hamas have reached a tentative deal for a five day cease fire, allowing the release of at least 50 hostages in gaza. now, the report says the agreement is being brokered by the us hostages would be released in groups every 24 hours. over those five days, there are reportedly 239

hostages still being held by hamas. and the deal does not include military personnel or men. the release could begin within the next several days. abc news has not confirmed the post report. the white house security council says a deal has not yet been reached, but officials are working hard at it. a pause in fighting would also allow much needed humanitarian relief to get into gaza. meanwhile as those talks continue, president biden is restating his opposition to a cease fire in gaza. the president wrote an op ed that appeared in saturday's washington post. he said, quote, as long as hamas clings to its ideology of destruction, a cease fire is not peace. he went on to say the goal should not simply be to stop the war for today, but to end the war forever, and that the road to peace must lead to a two state solution. the president also said a pause in any fighting would give hamas time to rebuild its stockpile of weapons. and he called on israel

to respect humanitarian law and minimize the loss of civilian life here in the bay area, a man is hopeful some of his relatives held hostage by hamas will be released. he recently learned at least one of his relatives will not make it home. abc seven news reporter tara campbell spoke with him, calls from jerusalem and tel aviv saturday for the safe return of more than 200 hostages still being held by hamas. >> i can't imagine there are babies there that can be brought home this in wake of the israeli defense forces announcing it found two of the hostages dead. a loss felt right here in the bay area. >> this is everybody's nightmare. >> oren rubenstein's referring to his relative of 65 year old hostage yehudit weiss, whose body was found in a house near al-shifa hospital. >> all i think the hope and dreams of every single family that has hostage is, is that they come home alive.

>> and that's been the hope for this pacifica resident putting up these posters of the hostages throughout san francisco. three of the posters are three more of his relatives kidnaped when hamas attacked kibbutz berri, killing more than 100 people. you have three older relatives. where does it leave you with them? well i'm going there and i'll be there on tuesday. >> and like here, there are vigils and marches and rallies and demands of their government to find and release these hostages, demands that just may have been heard. >> the washington post reporting saturday night that israel and hamas have reached a tentative deal to cease fire for five days to free dozens of women and children being held hostage in gaza. and it was shiny. luke meanwhile, rubenstein is leaving for tel aviv on monday to start raising money to rebuild the kibbutz and to help the children displaced. >> having lost their parents, their friends, their relatives, their teachers, their home,

brockman immediately resigned in protest. brockman is also involved in discussions about returning to the company. openai said altman was, quote, not always truthful in his communication with the board in the east bay. saturday marked 45 years since the jonestown massacre, where the community gathered for a memorial service to remember the more than 900 people killed, including over 300 children. the senseless tragedy led by cult leader jim jones, happened in guyana in 1978. some were shot, but many died by cyanide poisoning. bay area congresswoman jackie speier survived after being shot five times. san thursday's memorial service was held at evergreen cemetery in oakland. it is the final resting place for more than 400 victims whose bodies were never claimed. today, san francisco leaders are remembering those who have lost their lives in traffic incidents. parents of victims will speak at the event that includes the parents of a four

year old girl who was struck and killed in a crosswalk on fourth and king street back in august. a temporary memorial will have a ghost stroller bike and pedestrian in front of city hall . it will also include the name of each person killed in the city since 2014. well right now, millions of americans are on their way to their thanksgiving destiny plans. and experts predict this travel season will break record as but as people have travel underway, major delays are already on the horizon. abc news reporter johnny fernandez tells us about the storm moving across the country. >> millions of americans have hit the road or are heading to the airport for thanksgiving. as a major storm moves across the country. the storm system will bring rain, thunderstorms and winds in different parts of the states between sunday and wednesday. on turkey day itself, the weather is expected to be cooler than normal. a tsa predicts more than 30 million people to take the skies between now and november 27th. that's up

according to the chronicle, homewood mountain promised to maintain public access, dropping its prior decision of becoming a member only club. the huge privately owned resort will continue selling daily and seasonal passes. it is now launching a new lifetime membership program. homewood still has plans to build ski homes and a hotel. well, speaking of lake tahoe, northstar was supposed to open this weekend. but lisa, i saw on their twitter it's delayed due to mother nature throwing some warmer temps. yeah that's right. >> we did see a little snow there, maybe a little more for thanksgiving, actually. just a dusting, though. so not what's needed to open the resorts, unfortunately. and it'd be nice to have a day or a couple of days to dry out. right. we have that for you. with plenty of sunshine on the way. but as high pressure builds on in the tug between high and low pressure, allowing for some wind to kick up throughout the day today. so we'll be breezy certainly in the hills at the coast. and as we look outside and maybe even across the bay, some whitecaps

forming later on. but for right now, it is calm and we're looking at 54 in san francisco right at the coast, though, we do have a little bit of wind already. it is 55 in mountain view and san jose with half moon bay at 57. that north wind allowing for pretty mild temperature. and look outside here from vollmer peak, it's 50 santa rosa, 51in napa with livermore 50 degrees and busy place this week sfo where we've got a lot of clear sky, clear and cool this morning. we'll see sunshine today. breezy winds pick up high clouds late in the day and then the look for the week ahead is sun with some high clouds as a couple of systems miss us to the north. as for today hour by hour, you'll notice we're clear a couple of high clouds throughout the late afternoon. high pressure rebuilds. we have a sunny monday and then that first system allowing for some filtered sunshine on tuesday, but no rain in the forecast in terms of the

wind, though, that's what we're watching today. 1:00, we've got wind gusts 20 to 30 miles an hour along the coast, getting quite breezy around the bay throughout the afternoon today. then the gusty winds throughout the upper elevations from 20 to 27 miles an hour here. this graphic shows. and then as we get into the morning hours, even windier. this is late tonight, actually. and by late in the overnight hours towards morning, that's when the winds will subside. and monday looks like to be a very nice day with plenty of sunshine checking out the rest of the week. then notice high pressure deflects the tuesday system to the north. and then here's another chance of more clouds on thursday. could see a little bit of snow here in the mountains. other than that, though, we are staying high and dry for the foreseeable future with temperatures in the low to mid 60s. this is about where we should be for this time of year. 62 in fremont, look for 63 in vallejo. niners today. plenty of

novato and the coast was as well last hour. so we'll continue to see those coastal winds build upper elevations. also and then look what happens late in the day. we're sunny right through 130, 2:00. we'll get some high clouds in here and talk about a sunny monday. and let's talk about turkey day coming up. stephanie lisa, thank you. >> we turn now to an update on the repairs of the i-10 freeway in los angeles county to get us to this point ahead of schedule. >> eight days to get this thing open and operational. and that means if you're doing the math, that this thing opens tonight, it will be fully operational tomorrow. so now you hear there governor gavin newsom announcing that the repairs are finishing today for the large stretch of arson fire damaged it.spected >> cal fire is asking for the public's help as they identify a person of interest in this case. take a look at your screen. the agency released these images over the weekend. authorities

say the person had burns on his left leg and a knee bre on his right leg. when he left the scene. well, the second test flight for the space starship ended in an explosion ten minutes after launching saturday . the spacecraft is designed to bring nasa astronauts to the moon in as abc news reporter phillip off explains, some people are calling the launch a win for space x. >> spacex launched its mega rocket star ship saturday morning from south texas, its second test flight. to one. company officials said its successfully lifted off under its own power. the booster then separate and the rocket ship reached space before communication was lost. eight minutes in the spacecraft experienced a, quote, rapid unshare fueled disassembly then exploded, added via the self destruct system over the gulf of mexico at nearly 400ft. starship is the biggest and most powerful rocket ever built. the first test flight of starship this

past april ended in an explosion shortly after liftoff. but since then, spacex has made dozens of improvements to the booster and its 33 engines as well as the launch pad. spacex founder elon musk taking to his social media platform x, calling the launch a success, posting several images of the rocket as it soared into space and congratulating everyone who worked on the mission. nasa administrator bill nelson also praised the launch. the faa said no injury or public damage have been reported and added it will oversee spacex's investigation into the mishap to ensure the company complies with regulatory requirements. spacex cannot launch another starship until the review is complete. nasa is counting on starship to get astronauts to the moon sometime around the end of 2025. the space agency awarding spacex a $3 billion contract to make it happen by transferring astronauts from its orion capsule to starship in lunar orbit before heading down to the
