the shakeups. ousting and lawsuits playing out over the weekend and a pleasant surprise for people living, working or traveling to los angeles just in time for thanksgiving holiday travel. millions are expected to travel over the next few days, whether by plane or by car. we have a look at when you should hit the road. good morning to you. it is monday, november 20th. >> yes. we're going to start the check of our forecast. >> andrew, it is looking lovely today and the week ahead. we've got a nice stretch leading into thanksgiving. so outside this morning, we'll go outside to our sutro tower camera, a live look. we do have clear skies out there. it is breezy in our hills

this morning where we do have a wind advisory until 9 a.m. but much of the lower elevation, it is a. okay. good morning, kumasi . >> oh, my gosh. that was kumasi. >> right now, temperatures were in the 40s and in the 50s for the most part. a couple of areas are in the 30s, but we are waking up to a slight chill in the atmosphere under clear skies. we're expecting a lot of sunshine today. future weather showing you by 10 a.m. we're into the 50s close to 60 degrees. later on today, we'll go into the mid 60s and lower 70s for daytime highs. so we're starting out a dry pattern for the week ahead. expect bright conditions, 66 in the city, 67 in oakland, go about 70. in san jose, 68. in vallejo. we are tracking a bit of a warming trend as we head towards the holiday. we'll show you that coming up in a few minutes. but first, let's check in with jobina and see with traffic this morning. >> thank you, drew. good morning, everybody. so surprise,

surprise, right? we are now in week seven of this sigalert at the richmond-san rafael bridge where we have three lanes blocked in the westbound direction. no wide load vehicles allowed in this area. other than that, though, we are looking pretty nice out there for your commute. live picture showing you emeryville and 80 westbound traffic still pretty light here in this area. we do have a high wind advisory issued for the bay bridge, dumbarton bridge and also the altamont pass. but in terms of the drive times on those bridges, they're looking pretty great. reggie and kumasi, thanks so much, jobina. >> this morning, a major shakeup at cruise has left the self-driving car company looking for a new leader. ceo kyle vogt took to social media yesterday to announce his resignation. the company, of course, already dealing with a number of legal issues lately. abc abc7 news reporter ryan curry is live outside the company's headquarters in san francisco with with what vogt is now saying. ryan >> yeah, reggie, good morning. vogt did not give a specific reason for why he is stepping down but he is doing so after the last few months for the company have been dreadful. vogt posted on x, formerly known as

twitter, saying he still thinks cruise has a bright future here. he reportedly apologized to employees over the weekend for allowing the company to veer off course. vogt said cruise began as a startup in his garage around ten years ago as the company expanded their av software hit several missteps. the dmv suspended cruise's self-driving permit following the incident, where a pedestrian was pinned beneath one of their cars. after they were hit by a human driver. last week. cruise's parent company, general motors, pulled their cars off the roads across the country. the ceo of general motors, mary barra, thanked vote for his vision. she went on to say to the new york times, public trust is essential to this as we work to rebuild that trust, safety, transparency and accountability will be our north stars. vogt did also go on to mention on that social media post that he does believe the avs are the future and he does believe in the future of cruise, though right now it's unclear what the future of cruise will be. we're live in san francisco, ryan

curry, abc seven news. very interesting. ryan, thank you. >> and now news of another san francisco based company, openai having its own ceo drama this morning. >> microsoft announced ousted openai ceo sam altman is joining their company. he'll run a new group focused on, you guessed it, advanced ai open. ai's board fired altman friday, then then spent the weekend negotiating his return to the company, which is behind the very popular chat. gpt obviously that deal didn't work out. the former ceo of twitch, emmett shear, is now reportedly going to step in as interim ceo of openai, a massive relief in southern california just in time for thanksgiving. the stretch of interstate ten damaged by a fire a little over a week ago has reopened way ahead of schedule. the original estimate was 3 to 5 weeks to get these lanes reopened. governor newsom was joined by vice president kamala harris and senator alex padilla yesterday to show appreciation for the

crews getting these repairs done in time for this morning's commute. >> i was acutely aware of what closure of the ten would mean for so many people. hard working people, families, many people who, when it was shut down, they can't work from home. their work requires them to be present. >> the fire is being investigated as arson and cal fire is now looking for a person of interest in the case. the agency released these images over the weekend. authorities say he had burns on his left leg and is believed to be between 30 and 35 years old. >> a live check right now on bay area roads this morning. pretty calm right now on our san mateo bridge camera, but triple a is expecting this to be the busiest thanksgiving travel season since 2019. the third highest since 20 since 2000. and of course, wednesday will be the day two. avoid the roads. so if you're flying triple a is expecting the busiest thanksgiving since 2005 with tomorrow and wednesday

being especially jammed. if you're flying out of sfo, we're looking live right now. you might be in the clear. abc seven news reporter tara campbell has more on that. plus the concern about rising flu cases from health experts. >> it's thanksgiving travelers were on the move sunday at san francisco international airport. >> so we flew today because we were trying to avoid the crowds. >> megan green and her son cole are off to denver for the holidays, managing to miss the madness. airport officials say the peak of thanksgiving travel has already been hit. >> friday was our busiest day. we had about 76,000 people come through. >> numbers nearing pre-pandemic levels and airport officials expect the trend to continue. >> what we're asking people is to plan ahead. give yourself an extra time, and also use alternative methods of transportation. we're trying to get more people to use bart and use the airtrain and as millions of americans are set to travel and gather for the thanksgiving holiday, health officials are warning about increasing levels

of respiratory illness. >> so right now, we have certain parts of the country that are really at critical levels of flu. seven states plus d.c. and puerto rico are experiencing high or very high levels of respiratory illness activity. symptoms, including a fever, cough and sore throat. >> in california right now, we don't have a lot of flu, but we have a higher than normal levels for this time of the year. and it's coming very early. so it just makes us feel a little bit nervous for after the holidays. >> dr. peter chin-hong song at ucsf says people should be taking precautions. they might mean wearing a mask in risky settings like public transit or at airports, particularly when you entering and exiting the plane before ventilation. and he says don't skip out on any of the vaccines we have about 35% of people vaccinated for flu, but only about 14% for covid and rsv of those eligible. >> so we still have a long way

to go. >> meanwhile, back at sfo. people seem to be taking some of those precautionary measures. >> i'm here to pick up my father. he's arriving from eureka, california. he did actually just get vaccinated recently. and my mom as well. >> i brought a mask. he did not bring a mask. just oversight on his part. but yeah, i'm going to wear my mask while i'm flying. >> tara campbell, abc seven news . >> all right. take a look at our day planner. we have a lot of sunshine on the way. it's going to be a gorgeous day out there. high pressure is in control and what that is doing is supplying us with this warm up. are coming our way the next couple of days. it's going to prevent any inclement weather from moving into california as we head towards the holiday on thursday. so if you are traveling today across the state, we have nothing but sunshine from northern to southern california. those temperatures varying from the 40s in south lake to the 70s in southern california. but if you're hitting the roads today, you should have no problem traveling across the state. now

they can look at the nationwide map of travel, both coasts, the west coast and the east coast are doing just fine. but we will have an outbreak of severe weather across the south from louisiana to mississippi later on this afternoon where a few tornadoes are possible. but all in all, a lot of our major hubs are doing just fine over the next 24 hours. back here at home locally, we do have a wind advisory in effect in our hills. you can see that winds are quite strong right now. we're gusting to about 53 in mount diablo, 32 in the east foothills, 20 in the oakland hills. but these winds are going to back off over the next couple of hours. and by 9 a.m, they will turn calm. so the three day forecast, here we go. look at this nice stretch we have coming our way. nothing but sunshine today. it gets a little bit milder around here on wednesday. so if you're traveling across california the day before thanksgiving, we're good to go. we'll take a look at the thanksgiving day forecast coming up, reggie, in about eight minutes. >> thank you, drew. remembering a first lady who broke new ground. coming up, a look back at the life of tireless

agreed with the post that was echoing an anti-semitic conspiracy theory that falsely claims jews are organized using immigrants to replace the white race. >> so this is a kind of disaster for elon. a lot of these brands took a look at this tweet and saw it as a step too far. >> the advocacy group media matters reported that x places ads for major brands next to content. musk then wrote, quote, the split second court opens on monday. x will be filing a thermonuclear lawsuit against media matters and all of those who colluded in this fraudulent attack on our company, end quote . x says it does not intentionally place brands next to such content and also says the media matters reports completely misrepresented the real user experience to undermine freedom of speech and mislead advertisers, users and restrictions on speech have been loosened on accidents. musk brought the bought the platform last year and formally ban ad accounts have been reinstated

there. so we'll continue to watch this this morning. reggie, thank you. >> jobina time's now 513. this year's apec 2023 summit may have come and gone in san francisco. so now the reviews are starting to come in. city streets are back open in time for the start of the workweek after world leaders from the asia pacific region descended on the city by the bay. abc seven news reporter conor bernard takes a look at what san francisco's performance on the world stage means going forward. >> and we're working side by side. after a week of hosting world leaders and apec ambassadors, san francisco is dismantling the party metal security fencing stretching for blocks coming down around moscone center and some reviews are coming in. we're very pleased with how it went. >> by and large, joe d'alessandro, president of sf travel, says he's getting positive feedback about apec. the city will benefit from this. we'll get a lot of tax revenue. we'll get a lot of people were employed as a result of this. and so it's a it's an important place for san francisco to be on the world stage. >> but some small business

owners believe the summit was a failure. many downtown businesses say they can't wait for fencing to come down and streets to reopen here because is as far as they're concerned, apec did not deliver the customers they'd hoped ended up being one of our slowest weeks since we opened sonar cafe manager abdul saeed says he hired extra staff, but apec attendees didn't show and his regular customers couldn't get there. >> we're expected to be like like dreamforce, how? it was really busy. we expect it to be the same. but it was really slow. >> there were issues with some businesses not receiving the impact. in fact, in the security zone, not getting many visitors at all. and we're concerned about that. i have hope. >> i have optimism about the future because, you know, people always say hope isn't a plan in a post apec trip. >> all right. if you ever dreamed of owning your own island, here's your chance. red rock island, a six acre private island on san francisco bay, could be yours for $25 million.

there are a few. hang ups, though. no water, no power, no wi-fi. and building on it is a bit questionable. so now at this point, they don't know what construction would even be allowed. and if there were were able to do any construction, then they don't know how the crews would even get there. the listing agent said. i know what you know what? that's what happens when you ask too many questions. the listing agent says, yes, it's an island, it's a private island on the bay. and although people have made offers to buy the land before, it's never officially been for sale. it's just south of the richmond-san rafael bridge. >> what am i going to do with that? i don't know. >> it's not that big. we've all seen this a million times. yeah there's no there's not like habitable space. >> you know, you have to, like, level it a little bit. some flat areas, but we don't know yet. we don't know if we can do that. we

cool. by about 9 p.m, temperatures this morning, we're waking up into the 40s and 50s. low 40s in some of our coolest spots, especially in our valleys. but we'll warm up nicely with that sunshine in full effect. looking at highs today, we'll have bright conditions close to average for this time of the year. 67. oakland 66 in the city, about 70in san jose, 68 in vallejo, santa rosa, up to about 73 degrees tonight. we'll have partly cloudy skies and again, temperatures mainly dropping into the 40s and 50s as we head into tuesday. here's a look at future tracker temperatures. we're going to see little day to day change in our temperatures over the next couple of days. tomorrow, we're in the 60s and 70s. it looks like a similar story on wednesday. we may add a few more clouds into our sky for the holiday on thursday, but it's looking lovely around here. it's a quiet pattern for the week and really the seven day forecast. here's a look at the accuweather seven day. what you'll see is that we do have sunny skies today after a chilly morning. temperatures near average. the next couple of days looking nice for the holiday. sunny for shoppers on friday.

of hours, and that's going to lead to a nice day today. we will find sunshine on the forecast for your monday. temperatures mainly in the 60s this afternoon. number six, we are looking at mass transit right now for bart muni and ace. >> everything is operating on its normal schedule and on time right now. >> number seven, the holiday ice rink in downtown san jose opens tonight. celebration starts at 530 and the ice rink will be open every day until mid-january . this morning, we are remembering former first lady rosalynn carter, the wife of president jimmy carter, died at the couple's home in georgia yesterday. >> she was 96. the carters were married for 77 years and their lives were so much more than politics. abc news reporter karen travers has a look at her journey. >> rosalynn carter devoted her life to improving the lives of others. a close adviser to her husband, president jimmy carter, the first lady was a strong voice for early childhood immunization, human rights and mental health. >> mental health and the

problems of the elderly. those are the two things that i've been interested in for a long time. >> the carters have been married for over 30 years. when they moved to the white house, a journey that began in plains, georgia, where both were born. rosalynn was the oldest of four children. in 1945, she began dating her best friend's brother, james earl jimmy carter. the next year, 18 year old rosalynn married the naval academy graduate. the navy kept them moving. their three sons were born in three different ports. their daughter, amy, was born after the family resettled in plains. rosalynn helped run the carter family peanut business before jimmy eventually entered politics. he won two terms in the georgia state senate, but lost his first bid for governor when he decided to run again. his soft spoken wife took to the campaign trail. he won. soon, rosalynn was back. >> that campaign full time. since april of last year. i really believe he's going to be the nominee stumping to help her husband become america's 39th president. >> so help me god.

>> throughout it all, rosalynn championed women, children and charitable causes, hardworking and tenacious, caring and compassionate. she was dubbed the steel magnolia by the white house press corps, together with her husband, she promoted peace and human rights and built houses for habitat for humanity. mrs. carter authored four books, including her autobiography, first lady from plains. after leaving the white house, rosalynn carter continued to travel the world with her husband, speaking out on the issues she had championed throughout her life. one of their last interviews together was in the summer of 2021, when the carter celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. >> she life with jimmy carter has been an adventure. >> the couple sat down with abc's steve osunsami, president carter, you say often that marrying mrs. carter was the pinnacle of your life. >> more than any presidency. oh, yes. >> that was the most important thing in my life. having

operations. what else they're finding during their siege on gossip. >> good morning, everybody. it's monday, november 20th. >> it looks like another pretty day. hi drew. >> yeah, good morning. we had some wet weather over the weekend. we dried out yesterday and now we have a nice stretch for the week ahead. here's a live look from the exploratory camera. lit up for the holidays. we do have clear skies up above and that's going to lead to sunshine throughout the day later today. numbers right now as we begin our monday morning. we're in the low 40s in some of our coldest spots, mid 50s from half moon bay to the city, 52 right now in san ramon. let's go hour by hour on future weather with that sunshine. it's a fishing net warming us up. so by 11 a.m. upper 50s to lower 60s. it's quite lovely this afternoon we'll go into the mid 60s and lower 70s for daytime highs. that's pretty close to where we should be for this time of the year. sunny and 70 in san jose today, 66 in the city in about 67in oakland, 69in napa, 66. the high in concord. we'll take a

look at your travel forecast across the state and nationwide coming up in about eight minutes. but let's check in with jobina and see how we're doing on the roads this morning. >> thank you, drew. good morning, everybody. so we do have a wind advisory issued for the bay bridge and also through the altamont pass. but aside from that, no major blocking issues. and we actually have a new view from our walnut creek camera. this is new to us here at abc7 showing you 680 from a different angle at the bart station is going to be off to the left in walnut creek for a year. point of reference there in oakland showing you our 8-80 at the coliseum camera. that is the coliseum lit up on the right. those headlights are traveling in the southbound direction and our biggest issue is that we're seeing that super commuter traffic continue to back up. so tracy to dublin will be around 53 minutes to jobina. >> thank you. new this morning, one person has died after a double hit and run in oakland. the california highway patrol says around 1030 last night, a rental zipcar crashed into another vehicle south of the lincoln avenue exit. the zipcar became disabled and the other

car drove away. that's when two people in the zipcar got out. one of them was hit and killed by a car that swerved to avoid the zipcar. that car also took off the driver of the zipcar wasn't injured. investigators have not released any information about the cars that left the crash. it has been nine years since then. san francisco mayor ed lee helped launch vision zero. sf now the city seems farther than ever from reaching its goal of zero traffic deaths next year. local and state lawmakers were in attendance for the ninth annual world day of remembrance in san francisco over the weekend. organizers of walk sf say the city has accumulated at least 22 traffic related fatalities this year. people are hopeful that city leaders invest in making physical changes to the infrastructure at dangerous intersections across the area, just slowing down the speeds. >> you know, andrew was killed in a school zone and there was

no reason anyone should have been driving that fast through a school zone. and i don't even think that person was driving faster than the flow of traffic. they were all speeding. you know, that should never have happened. >> victims family members say they are upset about accountability. they say in some cases the people arrested for traffic fatalities only got what they call a slap on the wrist. >> today, we're expecting more action from community members in oakland. a local business owner in the fruitvale district is organizing a rally downtown to protest deadly traffic crashes in his neighborhood. and that demonstration is in front of the ac transit headquarters on franklin street, set for 3 p.m. also in the east bay, more changes coming in hopes of reshaping one of alameda county's most dangerous corridors, according to our media partners at the east bay times, berkeley is now the last city to sign a sign off on the san pablo avenue corridor project. this is a large scale reimagining of that stretch from oakland to albany. now the project will add curb extensions
