this morning with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are standing on the streets of philadelphia for the oldest parade. about 104 years old. it was called the first money too. i remember that. standing in front of the turkey. the parade route is fine here and it's fine in new york as well because that first big storm has now pulled out of the way. we've got some cold air behind that storm and its dropping down from canada right through the plains, into the great lakes this morning. take a look at the wind chills. about 36 in washington, 29 in pittsburgh, 39 in new york but -- 36 in new york, new york, bt 18 in minneapolis. the weather is calm today but we are watching another storm get its act together in some of that cold air so this is a snow maker in the rockies and it's going to step out of the mountains and move east. folks may have some trouble traveling back from their holiday. let's show you where this goes. it's sunday right around 6:00 in

the morning, snow and rain around st louis and chicago. a little hint of snow. this continues to the east. some snow around the great lakes but look how it brings some big-time rain. this is heavy rain that passes through washington, d.c., into new york. that's sunday into monday. here are the big travel zones if you're looking across the country. the west is nice and quiet but the midwest does get a little kick of snow and there will be an awful lot of sorting when -- soaking rain that goes not only to the gulf coast but also the east coast and that happens later sunday into monday. we'll be watching the storm developed as it moves across the country. we not only had some trouble getting to your holiday, we will have some trouble getting back. >> thank you so much. we'll check back in a bit. >> turning out to a travel which has been relatively free of turbulence despite the recent storms and a record number of travelers but that could change as people head home this weekend. victor oquendo is at miami international airport with all the details.

good morning. >> reporter: the busiest holiday travel season now fully underway with the tsa estimating they will screen a record-setting 30 million passengers over the course of the holiday. that is up 11% from last year. despite the swapping numbers and at airports, it's been a smooth week so far with minimal cancelations and weather disruptions. just 63 flights canceled nationwide on wednesday and on tuesday, united and american cancer canceling zero and with delta with only a single cancelation, but airlines are still feeling the pressure is millions of americans are trying to make it for thanksgiving. sunday could be the biggest in history as 2.5 million people hope to fly. >> lets hope that some of the travel we've seen so far continues. thank you. now out to the roads. let's go to alex perez in chicago with what you need to know if you're heading out this morning. good morning. >> reporter: we are also expecting record numbers on the roads this long holiday weekend. according to aaa, some 55.4 million travelers were

expected to travel 50 miles or more this thanksgiving. that's an increase of 2.3%. to avoid some of the congestion on the roads, the advice from experts is to leave before 10:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. the worst times for motorists will be between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. perhaps motivating people to get on the roads, the price of gas is down, declining since august. last year at this time, the national average was $3.58 a gallon. now hovering at about $3.26 a gallon. on sunday, experts recommend you get on the road before noon. >> good advice there. thank you. >> going overseas to the latest on that deal between israel and hamas free about 50 hostages. officials are now saying the temporary ceasefire and release of some of the women and children held in gaza is not happening until tomorrow at the earliest. matt gutman is joining us from israel with more.

good morning. >> reporter: just a short time ago, the key mediators in this the qtaris announcin between israel and hamas has been signed. there was the expectation for the ceasefire to begin this morning and sometimes after that for hostages to be released but it took some time for negotiators to work out some of the finer details. this morning, or israeli officials say the hostage release and ceasefire won't happen until at least tomorrow. as israel continues its bombardment, much of gaza smothered in smoke this morning. for the families, it's an agonizing wait. the israeli government saying it has secured a list of names to be released with at least ten hostages to be handed off to the red cross each day for at least for days during which both sides would cease fighting. ultimately about 50 hostages held in gaza are to be released. in exchange, israel to release

15150 palestinian hostages. it allows a huge influx of aid into the gaza strip. president biden personally involved in the negotiations. according to u.s. officials, three americans are among those expected to be released by hamas, including three year old abigail. her birthday, tomorrow. >> we l pray that this release will happen and that abigail will actually be home. >> reporter: we traveled into gaza. our footage was checked for operational security. it's hard to take in the scale of the destruction here in gaza city. pass the humanitarian quarter, seeing this. civilians fleeing the north, holding up their i.d. cards and white flags. taken t to the largest hospital. directly insi inside the hospits internal medicine building.

having its gravity, controlling the command and control of the terror, conducting the war, waging the war from the hospital. >> reporter: just a short time ago, we learned the israeli military has retained the director of the hospital. it's unclear why at this point and while the israeli military showed us what appears to be part of a sophisticated network of tunnels right beneath the hospital, we have not seen evidence of the command and control complexes underneath the hospital israel says it will continue to stay there. and continue the search. >> a revealing look inside the tunnel system. thank you so much. we do get more on what president biden's role in the potential hostage deal which is expected to include americans. selena wang is on nantucket following the president. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. here in nantucket over thanksgiving, president biden is called the leaders in israel, egypt, and qatar. he is staying in close contact to make sure this gets carried through to the end. senior officials tell me president biden has been very hands-on.

for several weeks, he's been working with regional leaders. working the phones. he personally urged the leader of qatar to press hamas to accept the deal and he urged israel's prime minister to accept the early days of this crisis, a it. secret cell of top worked with officials in qatar. officials describe the release of 2 american last month. they said it was proof that the cell could deliver. from there, they worked on a broader deal. negotiations stalled several times. at one time, hamas broke off talks. officials are telling me it is biden's personal diplomacy that played a critical deal in getting this deal together. this is expected to include americans and a three year old girl whose parents were killed by hamas but there are many americans still unaccounted for and many hostages were not included in this deal. u.s. officials tell me they will not stop pushing until all of these hostages are released.

according to authorities. tourists are uncertain what happened rushing for shelter. >> when i saw how the employees at the gift shop reacted, i told my wife we need to go. we need to head back. >> reporter: law enforcement quickly swarming the area. >> i'm going to send you over to the bridge for a fire that happening. you're going there to block of roads. >> reporter: officials on both sides of the border taking no chances, closing all 4 bridges connecting the u.s. and canada in the region, temporarily suspending international flights to the airport in nearby buffalo. >> additional measures are being contemplated and activated at all border crossings across the country. we are taking this extraordinary seriously. >> reporter: the investigation is ongoing but no explosives have been found at the scene. >> i want to be very clear to americans and new yorkers. at this time, there is no indication of a terrorist attack.

>> careful where you point that. >> my house is going to burn. >> reporter: has to step in close as he aims at the top of the flames at first but then corrects herself and is able to sweep the base of the fire, putting it out after 33 seconds. experts say you should stand back to prepare the fire extinguisher and then move in as the flames go down. up next, judy. they have extinguishers, but admits she's not sure how to actually use one. >> there is a lock on it. >> reporter: she forgets to pull the pin, but with a bit of help, is finally able to douse the flames after a nail-biting 44 seconds. the experts caution that if you can't put out a fire in 30 seconds, you should get out. >> the fire doubles in size every 30 seconds. it's so important to act as quickly as you can. dial 911, get the fire extinguisher, aim at the fire, try to put the fire out and leave.

say that hostage release on bail and ceasefire between israel and hamas won't happen until at least tomorrow. as israel continues its bombardment, much of gaza smothered in smoke this morning. for the families, it's an agonizing wait but the israeli government saying it has secured a list of names to be released with at least ten hostages to be handed off to the red cross each day for at least 4 days, during which time, both sides will stop fighting. ultimately, about 50 hostages held captive in gaza, women and children are to be released. in exchange, israel to release at least 150 palestinian prisoners, women and teenagers. it will be the first such halt in fighting in nearly seven weeks, allowing the influx of huge amounts of aid into the gaza strip. president biden personally involved in the negotiations. according to u.s. officials, three americans are among those expected to be released by hamas, including a three year old. her birthday tomorrow. >> we all pray that this release will happen and that abigail will actually be home.

we are going to start with you because people want to know what you need to do to get the turkey golden brown. if it's not working out for you out of the gate, how to fix that? >> before you put it in the oven, you want to brush it with a little bit of oil. it can be avocado oil, canola oil. they will definitely put it in the oven and it will get it nice golden color. if it does get too brown before you can cook it all the way, you want to put a little bit of foil on the. >> i love it. >> we know there's nothing worse than a bland bird. what do people use in their pantry at the last minute? >> we can make a roux really fast. in the bore. a little bit of salt, sugar, mustard, garlic powder. the most important thing, the flavor of thanksgiving is sage.

going to actually put them in there. just mix it, put it on there and you can put it on your turkey. >> some other -- obviously the gravy very important. i don't have enough gravy. how do you make to? >> you've got to have gravy. billy important. it's easy enough making a roux with melted butter and flour. you're going to put that in, with it and then wait till it smells like baked bread. >> that's when we know it's ready. >> than just at the chicken stock or turkey stuff if you have it. season eight and salt and pep pepper. why don't you go ahead and bought that over? >> hot boiling pots all over. look at that. >> solid pour.

>> this is a surface question because i'm in charge of the potatoes. what can we do to help to add some more flavor to the potatoes? >> potatoes are a staple for every thanksgiving. a little fat goes a long way. start getting some butter. and in some cream. you can milk if you don't have it and you can start mashing. cheese, who doesn't love some cheese? then, this is a family secret. i'm telling everyone today. my mom uses a little sour cream. it gives it a little tang. then you would just salt and pepper and mash that. if it's too thick, you could also add a little more cream. if you feel like those lumps, you could actually use a whisk or a hand mixer. >> let me ask you about that because often, i've been guilty of this where the consistency isn't just right so how do you fix that? >> another family secret. using the hand mixer to help whip up the potatoes and that will really help with the

samantha was giving me some amazing stories from people who call in on the hotline but we are here to help you all out. let's get started first here because some people were wondering what a good substitute if they run out of butter for thanksgiving? >> sometimes people actually do run out of butter. another fat would work. for the mashed potatoes, you can use something like greek yogurt or even sour cream or cream or whole milk, 2% milk would also work. turkeywise, you can also use avocado oil, the canola oil, and if you're really getting creative, mayo. >> i was surprised but the male names works. >> it's oil based. >> you want to make some quick surprise dishes with the veggies. >> this is an air fryer. i use mine all the time. we have some frozen veggies here. you can mix in. these are frozen veggies but in the air fryer until crispy. this is balsamic to elevate it and in a little salt and pepper.

and if you'd like the salted bacon, you could at that. my personal favorite is parmesan cheese. parmesan cheese on any -- as a registered dietician, i think it's important to have green on your plate so that's why we are suggesting veggies. >> fantastic. >> javier, what do we do if we ran out of stuffing? i do love stuffing so it's possible. >> a lot of people also use crackers, saltines or buttery crackers. just use the same sauteed vegetables you would use. your celery, carrots, sage. you can just dump in some crackers right there. some egg. and a little bit of stock. we mix it in. pretty fast. you just put it into your casserole and bake it up. >> i love what a superstar chef says. >> yeah, it's nothing.
