>> reporter: we are at hostages square. you can see hundreds of people here gathered in anticipation and we now understand that the red cross has taken possession of those hostages. we don't know their condition, we don't know how many they received but we understand they are now on their way to egypt and then they will bring them to israel. there, an israeli military team with specific training in dealing with the hostages will check their identification. they don't know exactly who is on that list and who has arrived. they'll give them a medical check and then they'll be able to call their family members. the adults will be debriefed by israeli intelligence and they will all be transferred to israeli hospitals and be reunited with their family members for the first time in seven weeks. >> in exchange, israel will release 39 palestinian prisoners in this first batch, deal brokered by the u.s., egypt, and

qatar. >> all women and children and those hostages are from the same families will be put together in the same patch. every day will include a number of civilians to total 50. >> reporter: hope for some means heartbreak for others. >> we want our kids back. >> reporter: each of the families of the more than 230 hostages taken nearly two months ago given notice whether their loved ones will be part of the deal. ruby, are you hopeful that you'll ever see your son again? >> there is no option to think otherwise. i am positive that i'll see him back again. >> reporter: in gaza, up until the last moment before the ceasefire, israeli air strikes raining down. it destroyed hamas tunnels beneath gaza's largest hospital, al-shifa. tunnels they took us into this week right beneath the internal medicine building. israeli authorities screening out footage but only asking for sensitive information to be

blurred. >> pretty tight in here. you can see right up here, looks like there are pipes for an air vent. >> reporter: we walked through a portion about 150 yards along. >> this appears to be a kitchenette. >> reporter: that same day, the idea of detaining the director of the hospital from one of these u.n. buses bound for safety in southern gaza saying the questioning the him about the tunnels and caches of weapons found at the hospital. our team in gaza filming thousands of gazans trying return to their homes in the evacuated south. others from the north purportedly coming under fire from the ibf attempting to cross ceasefire lines. dozens of a truck found crawling into the gaza strip this morning, saying hundreds will now be able to enter gaza carrying desperately needed fuel, medical supplies, and other resources. in tel aviv, you might be able to hear the singing behind me. people are also embracing.

this is a very cautious celebration here, we do know that israel has said it is now in the process of transferring palestinian prisoners from its jails to the west bank. they will only be actually released once those hostages are on israeli soil. there was concern that either side wouldn't live up to the commitments but it seems like this hostage swap is going forward. we know that ceasefire is holding right now. also learning that thai hostages have also been released into israel. >> and incredibly delicate situation as this plays out. we know president biden has been monitoring the situation and taking an active role in the hostage deal. our senior white house correspondent selena wang is traveling with the president in nantucket. good morning. >> reporter: president biden is in nantucket for the thanksgiving holiday but he has watched this hostage deal get carried out. in calls this week with egypt and qatar, he discussed civilian

lives and working to secure the release of all remaining hostages. the u.s. wants to make use of the spores in fighting by searching humanitarian aid into gaza and potentially setting up safe zones. this took weeks of intensive diplomacy. president biden rooting for both parties to accept. >> thank you. now to the holiday weather outlook. some of the coldest air of the season moving in plus a cross-country storm is moving in just in time for the trip home. it's a turtleneck this morning. >> almost always. you just saw how gorgeous it was in nantucket. that's how pretty it is on the east coast but they are going to be swamped with rain. let's start with the storm forming around denver. some snow on the ground. there is one to make 4 inches of snow to boulder. 9 million people, 14 states under the advisories.

you can see how this storm is there but it's going to move across the country and this is not going to stop your holiday travel but it may slow down just a touch. denver, the storm timing is now until about 5:00. lighter snow to the south of denver. kansas city, saturday to sunday from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. kansas city has just one to make 3 inches of snow so you can handle this. it's just going to slow things down. that's no moves into denver. it's an all sunday event from 5:00 a.m. to make 8:00. then heavy rain in the east coast. by the time we get to that rain in boston, rain. >> gio benitez joins us. >> reporter: the good news right now is that by air, we are seeing almost no cancelations or delays and you may at some the roads are looking pretty good too but you may get some traffic later this afternoon. these are the worst times to hit the road just about anywhere today between noon and 4:00 p.m. but the best times, before 11:00 a.m. and after 7:00 p.m.

let's take a look at what happens over the weekend because the worst times tomorrow and sunday are between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. sunday will be the absolute busiest for that return home. if you're traveling by air, today is a pretty good day to do it. it's going to be busy but it's a lot better than sunday. look at this. airlines for america says the airlines are expecting 3.2 million passengers on sunday alone. sam was also talking about that snow so you may watch out for that because you may see some delays but otherwise if you're not traveling today or tomorrow, you may want to buckle up for sunday. >> might be worth that early start. thanks so much. appreciate it. now to the growing concerns in china as the country deals with a rise of respiratory illnesses and clusters of pneumonia in children. the world health organization formally asking beijing for more details. on the spike in cases. britt clennett has more from hong kong. >> reporter: china has given more information on these outbreaks of pneumonia among children, telling the w.h.o.

that it is not seeing any unusual or novel pathogens. chinese local media reported earlier that some hospitals in northern china are at capacity with young patients as clusters of what was officially reported as undiagnosed pneumonia have been on the rise for the last month but these have been attributed to common viruses, like the flu, like rsv bacterial illnesses. the uptick in cases maybe because this is china's first full season since it lifted its very strict covid restrictions. much like what you remember happening in the u.s., an influx of kids becoming ill when those restrictions ended but the w.h.o. is closely monitoring the situation. >> thank you. now to new york mayor eric adams facing a lawsuit by a woman claiming he sexually assaulted her in 1993. it's the latest high-profile man being sued under a new law about to expire. aaron katersky has more. >> reporter: this morning,

new york mayor eric adams denies knowing the woman who claims in a court filing he sexually assaulted her in 1993. >> it's absolutely natural. i would never do anything to harm anyone. just really something absolutely that has never happened. i don't even recall ever meeting the person who made this allegation. >> reporter: the women's legal filing contained no details but said adams caused physical, psychological and other injuries suffered as a result of conduct that would constitute offenses when they both work for the city 30 years ago. adams was a police captain at the time. she filed a claim under new york's adult survivors act that allows accusers to file civil lawsuit that would have otherwise been barred by the statute of limitations. >> this is something that is --

i know so many individuals, so many clients, that this is exactly what they wanted. they wanted this opportunity to seek accountability for what's been done to them. >> reporter: actor jamie foxx is also facing a claim by a woman who said he sexually assaulted her at a rooftop bar in 2015. he said it never happened and now he is threatening legal action of his own. a former model accused guns n' roses front man axl rose of a violent 1989 sexual assault under the same law. his attorney called the claim fictional and said it never happened. sean combs, recently that in one settled one lawsuit under the adult survivors act was hit with a second by a woman who says he drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1991. he denied it, a spokesperson calling the claim made up and not credible and sing in a statement to abc news this last-minute lawsuit is an example of how well-intentioned law can be turned on its head. there is now a nationwide push

to have statutes of limitations on sexual assaults permanently removed. >> thank you so much. going to turn out to the new alert from law enforcement about black friday shopping. both protesters and criminals are threatening to disrupt the biggest day of the year for many retailers. jaclyn lee joins us from los angeles. >> good morning. law enforcement across the country are scrambling to combat this brazen robberies happening at big box stores. the numbers are skyrocketing. obviously today is the busiest shopping day of the year. the l.a.p.d. posting this video asking for the public's help after a flash mob started this nike store. you can see the stuffing trash bags with goods and getting away with more than $10,000 in merchandise. the california highway patrol is joining forces to conduct raids. take a look at the merchandise they recovered. more than $350,000 in 2 locations in the oakland area. this is costing retailers more than $112 billion in losses in 2022.

san francisco police are expanding operations to make sure that shoppers are safe in retail locations across the city. police chief bill scott said officers will be, quote, out in full force as holiday shopping season. the chief says that combating retail theft and auto burglaries are some of the department's highest priorities. and let's take a live look outside right now at the bay bridge toll plaza. maximum enforcement by the chp is in effect for the holiday weekend. officers are out on patrol there checking for drunk drivers, distracted drivers and speeding drivers. the maximum enforcement period ends on sunday night and jobina fortson will have a look at the bay area forecast

first, the top headlines we are following right now. overnight, the ceasefire between israel and hamas went into effect. expecting to pass hostilities for 4 days to allow the release of about 50 hostages in gaza in exchange for humanitarian aid and 150 palestinian prisoners. the first group of hostages has been transferred to the red cross. violence erupting in dublin over night following a knife attack that injured five people including one child seriously. irish police clashed with protesters, arresting 34. authorities say the riot was not tab-related. the rainbow bridge linking the u.s. and canada is reopened to traffic after an explosion and massive fire started on friday. silver car traveling more than -- close to 100 mph slam into a concrete wall exploding into flames. both occupants of the car, husband and wife were killed. authorities are investigating. >> take a look at the hair raising rescue.

nationals who were kidnapped along with the israelis and other foreign nationalities on october 7th. they have also been traveled transported to israel. they are also free. it is a major development that we were not expecting today. >> what the expected time right now between the release of these hostages by hamas and also the release of palestinian prisoners by israel in exchange? >> everything is happening imminently. we understand that those hostages are very close, if not in israel at this point. we have not seen video of them. we don't exactly know who they are but that should be happening. as soon as that happens, the palestinian prisoners, 39 of them, women and minors will be released into the west bank. they will be going home at some point and the entire process will be repeated tomorrow. so far, it is important to note that this ceasefire is holding so far. both sides in this agreement.

>> before i let you go, i know officials were saying they were hoping to take advantage of that four-day ceasefire to try to get more aid into gaza. any updates on that? >> a significant amount of aid has come in today. 100 trucks before noon. we understand another 100 since then. medicine, food, water. also, few will is going in. not a lot. about 4 truck fulls. that will continue in the coming days and this will continue every day for at least the first four days of this hostage deal. hamas says it might release more and every day that it releases at least ten more hostages, israel will say will give you another full 24-hour of the ceasefire and that will continue as long as hostages are released. when it is over, the israeli military, its defense ministry has said it will resume the fight and gaza. some areas of concern, we understand that many palestinians have tried to go
