protests around the bay area today in response to the cease fire between israel and hamas. malls became the backdrop as demonstrators sought to send a message to shoppers on black friday. with that, we say good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm diane lim. hamas released the first wave of hostages today and they are now in the process of returning to their families. it all comes as a fragile four day cease fire is holding, allowing for humanitarian aid to flow into gaza. abc reporter melissa adan says more hostages are expected to be released soon. >> tonight, the 24 hostages released to israel reuniting

with their loved ones after the red cross received the group of 13 israeli citizens. ions ten thai citizens and one filipino citizen from hamas. the red cross transferring the hostages to the idf where they first received a medical assessment moment before being sent to israeli hospitals for reunification with their families. >> we are all really relieved that we heard from them and that they said that they're fine and not just other people told us across the west bank. >> cheers as crowds celebrate the arrival of the palestinian prisoners amid this four day cease fire. israel releasing 39 palestine indian women and teenage prisoners. president biden in nantucket today saying there is a chance of extending the truce. >> this extended pause in the fighting brings a critical opportunity to deliver much needed food, medicine and water and fuel to the civilians in gaza. and we are not wasting one single minute. >> the united nations sending

200 trucks across the rafah border and into gaza. the larger single day delivery since the october 7th terror attack. trucks carrying cooking gas and critical fuel that is needed to power hospitals and trucks. >> hundreds more trucks are getting in position as well, ready to enter gaza over the coming days to support the innocent palestinians who are suffering greatly because of this war that hamas has unleashed a desperate need in gaza, as there are now at least 1.7 million people displaced and at least 1 million staying in shelters run by the united nations. >> relief and works agency for palestine refugees. israel now preparing to receive its second wave of hostages. the idf notifying families if their relative is on the list of those expected to be freed. melissa don, abc news, los angeles. >> as the four day cease fire is underway in gaza,

pro-palestinian protesters were out in force around the bay area today. from emeryville to san francisco, hundreds took to the streets. and in santa clara, crowds flooded valley fair mall. abc7 news reporter tara campbell spoke to some organizers. palestine pro-palestinian protesters packed into valley fair mall in santa clara with a black friday message. >> why is nothing comes are dropping. >> i felt like we really made an impact. people stopped. they were you know, they wanted to see what was going on. are shia hussein captured this video while inside the mall. >> she says she was there to keep calls for a cease fire in the spotlight by not letting it get destroyed by the shopping day, not getting distracted from what's really going on. >> i notice a few stores closed, a couple of their doors, you know, maybe just out of safety precaution. three, three. >> and at san francisco's union square, the same message rang

out today. we came out on black friday to demand that our elected officials echo the growing and popular calls for a permanent cease fire. these calls coming from many who have already lost loved ones. >> my sister in law, she just lost her brother in law and her niece and nephew. >> this particular protester asked, we don't show his face or share his name. he says he fears it could make him a target. evolution. friday's event was organized by youth protesters, and they estimate a thousand people were piled into union square at its height, it was the youth who led on their days off from school to bring everyone out to the streets and keep this protest movement going. tara campbell, abc seven news. >> well, this was the scene in san francisco's union square today, which was bustling with black friday shoppers. it's a promising sign that city officials and law enforcement have been working towards is.

san francisco recently received $17 million in grant money to combat retail theft and $15 million more for police patrols. as the change is visible. today, there were sfpd officers on nearly every street corner and businesses say they are seeing a steady uptick in foot traffic. >> five more people coming in. so we've just been we've been busy. >> a different site, just two years now, all around union square. >> the holiday spirit is in the air. the macy's christmas tree was lit two weeks ago and the holiday ice rink opened at the beginning of the month. black friday crowds started before more shoppers even got to the mall. i mean, check out this line of cars just waiting to get into the san francisco premium outlets this afternoon in livermore, police were stationed around the mall to keep traffic flowing and to prevent thefts. the outlet mall is as big as the traffic jam, with 180 stores is now. it was a different story in

marin county, where shoppers had plenty of room to go between stores and check out all the black friday deals at the corte madera shopping center. security is also tighter here. last month, you may remember thieves used a car to ram into a sunglasses hut store and steal merchandise. this tomorrow is small business saturday, bringing hope for shops during a big shopping week. the city of san jose has launched a shop local campaign. it's called holiday san jose. creatively mapping out and identifying hundreds of small businesses in 11 shopping districts. >> it's just making us feel you know, that we're seeing and that we've been heard and that they know our struggle, providing these spaces where people really feel like they belong somewhere and, you know, online shopping can't do that. >> the city says it has more than 60,000 small and micro businesses each contributing to the local economy. business owners are saying they're grateful for the potential boost

from the community they work hard for every day in the east bay, a cold store in pleasant hill managed to open for business today after a brazen smash and grab incident last night. there was a sign telling people to use the other entrance . due to the extensive damage, police say a van crashed into the entrance while it was closed with no people inside. three people went in wearing masks and got away with merchandise as they then fled. in another vehicle before police arrived. the break ins is under investigation. ocean. all right. turning now to the weather, it does feel a little bit like the holidays out there. spencer standing by with your 24 hour accuweather forecast. spencer >> okay. dion well, a bit of a chill is coming our way so it will feel like winter. so let's take a look at our 24 hour daytime planner. you can see 7:00 tomorrow morning. sunny skies, but temperatures in inland will be in the 30s, mid to upper 30s, low to mid 40s from the bay to the coast by noon. well, i won't say it's

warmer, but less chilly with temperatures mainly in the upper 50s from the coast to the inland areas. sunny skies throughout the day. finally in the afternoon we get a little bit of warmth. temperatures in the low 60s from coast to inland, but but as we get to 7 p.m, after a couple of hours of darkness, it'll be chilly again. upper 40s, inland, mid 50s around the bay shoreline, low 50s on the coast. i'll give you a look at the seven days ahead in just a few minutes. diane okay, sounds good. >> spencer thanks. the former minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering george floyd has been stabbed in federal prison. the news was first reported by the associated press. derek chauvin was stabbed by a fellow inmate at the federal correctional institution in tucson, arizona. sources tell abc news chauvin is in stable condition and expected to survive. he's serving a 43 year old 43 year prison sentence after being found guilty in the may 2020 killing of floyd, whose death sparked nationwide protests. well, check it out.

and find all the missing star fragments and complete that to help save christmas are very important job enchant. >> also has a marketplace with carolers and magicians to entertain visitors. as for tickets, you can head to enchant christmas.com. that's spectacle is open until december 31st. well well san francisco's ghirardelli square lit up this evening for the holiday season. santa stopped by to bring cheer to all the families who came out for the event. they got to take photos with him and got a free ghirardelli chocolate square. the sf boys chorus performed an all kids got to do some sing along songs and in fremont they held a tree lighting ceremony tonight as well to kick off its festival of lights parade. this event attracts more than 10,000 spectators in the city's niles district, but the parade brought out antique cars and marching bands along with dancers. and over 60 fun floats. it's all funded by the community and

local businesses. today isn't just the official first day of christmas shopping season. it is also the first day of christmas tree shopping season. lots of people got some post-thanksgiving exercise today by walking around christmas tree lots like santas tree farm in half moon bay, all in search of the perfect tree. the owners of the farm say plenty of rain this year has contributed to a good looking crop of trees that are now ready to be taken home. >> they've been healthy all year and they've had all the water they've needed. this year we had more rain than previous years, so the trees are really tall. they've grown really well. >> experts say no matter how healthy your tree is, when you get it, you should put it in water. when you get home to make sure it doesn't dry out before christmas. not everyone spent their friday shopping. some headed out to the ardenwood historic farm in fremont, the east bay regional park district waived entrance and activity fees at its parks as part of

green friday. that's a movement to get people to spend more time with loved ones instead of shopping. >> just think of it as a good day to visit the park. i don't do black friday. >> do you like shopping, micah? no we're not shoppers. >> green friday also encourages people to support good causes, as this is the ninth year east bay park says waived fees on the day after thanksgiving. an unsuspecting shopper in maine couldn't wait to get a jump on black friday sales. wait it's a deer. yeah. police say the animal just jumped through a store's large front glass window and tripped the alarm last night. officers expected to find a burglar, but instead found this deer running around. just. oh, no knocking things over and really just causing some mayhem. it was eventually herded outside and ran off as well. expected high tides are leading to extended road closures in the

north bay. the lower half of the manzanita park and ride lot is now closed through wednesday, along with shoulder parking on state route one in mill valley. that same closure will take effect once again from december 11th through december 28th. high tides are known to flood the lot this time of the year. all right . once again, we get back to spencer christian standing by with our weather situation. and things are feeling a little bit chilly. >> it is quite chilly out there right now, dion. and we've got much cold weather to talk about. but since you mentioned the high tides, they factor into this beach hazard statement. i want to tell you about. this is in effect until sunday morning. wave heights are elevated. the surface rough. we can expect increased threat of sneaker waves during this time period. and of course, with the high tides this weekend that may produce further run up at our beaches. so just bear that in mind. meanwhile, back to the weather. our high pressure is in control of our weather right now will be for the next several days, bringing us mainly clear skies. the wind is really calm right now. so when you combine

clear skies overnight with calm wind, you get a sharp drop in temperatures and that's what we have right now. check out this 24 hour temperature change, 16 degrees cooler in novato, 23 degrees cooler in napa than at this time last night. 20 degrees cooler in fairfield and 16 degrees cooler in livermore. it's chilly all over the bay area, but we have clear skies as you can see in this camera view from sutro tower looking at san francisco, 51 degrees here in the city right now. we have mid 40s at oakland mountain view, san jose, 38 at palo alto at 41 at half moon bay. looking back at a portion of the skyline from the explorator camera of the temperature readings right now in the 30s in many locations 39 at santa rosa and fairfield down to freezing already at novato, napa, 37, concord 42 and 40 at livermore and looking across the embarcadero from the rooftop camera. these are the forecast headlines. cold overnight with frost likely in the north bay valleys. sunny days, cold mornings lie ahead into early next week and there's a slight chance of rain beginning about

the middle of next week. excuse me, the frost advisories in effect until 10:00 tomorrow morning for the north bay valleys. as i mentioned, that's down to 32 already in parts of the north bay. and we can expect temperatures down to or below 36, pretty much across the board there. meanwhile, overnight lows more specifically, 33, santa rosa, 31, lakeport, a 35 over the inland east bay at livermore. so you get the point. it's going to be quite chilly all around during the overnight early morning hours under sunny skies tomorrow, highs will just reach into the mid 60s in the mildest locations around the bay and inland. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so for the next couple of days we've got cool weather but nice sunny skies. it warms up about two degrees or so around the bay and inland on monday, but it's hardly going to be noticeable. then it starts to cool down again and later in the week, wednesday, thursday, friday, we see increasing clouds and a slight chance of showers. at the moment, we can't be very precise with just how big a chance it
