emotional reunions as hamas released a second round of israeli hostages yesterday. it took hours of negotiating sessions to reach a deal. good morning. it's sunday, november 26. i'm stephanie sierra. we'll have more on our top story in just a moment. but first, we begin with the weather. lisa is

tracking the forecast. yeah, it's chilly out there. >> once again, we have a few cirrus clouds that are allowing for temperatures to be maybe a couple degrees warmer. and you can see them here on live doppler seven. but as we check out our frost advisory, still once again in the north bay until 9:00, where temperatures have dipped below 30 degrees in a few sheltered areas. let's check it out. 33 in novato, 32 in santa rosa, it is 50. downtown with 36 in livermore, upper 30s in fremont. certainly chilly for you and 37 in gilroy. so six degrees colder in napa, 39 degrees colder in concord. and we are looking at the wind in the upper elevations pulling in that cold valley air, but also allowing for some mixing and temperatures to be warmer right around the inversion. so at the surface, winds are calm to a little bit like 5 to 6 miles an hour. and that gives us enough to keep temperatures up into the 40s. so a few high clouds, upper 50s in our inland valleys, 60 around the bay. we'll talk rain chances as soon as tuesday night when we see you

in a few minutes. >> stephanie, lisa, thank you. developing news now, 4001 hostages were freed in the first two days of the ceasefire between israel and hamas. hamas releasing 24 hostages on friday, followed by another 17 on saturday. but the second release almost didn't happen after hamas said it was going to delay. here's abc's marc remillard with the details. >> hamas releasing 13 more israelis and four more foreigners on saturday, one day after 24 hostages were freed. friday those freed hostages leaving gaza through the rafah border crossing, then taken to israeli hospitals to be reunited with their families. of the 13 israeli detainees released saturday, eight were ages 18 and under, including one as young as three, according to the israeli prime minister's office. the four foreigners released saturday were all thai nationals . as part of the exchange, the international committee of the red cross said it facilitated the release of 33 palestinian detainees from israel to the west bank in northern gaza.

palestinians crowding around trucks filled with much needed aid. 61 trucks were delivered with food, water and emergency medical supplies, according to the united nations office of humanitarian affairs. there were also 11 ambulances delivered to the al-shifa hospital to help with evacuations. those deliveries, part of the four day cease fire deal between israel and hamas. hamas delayed saturday's scheduled hostage release, claiming israel had violate the terms of the truce deal, alleging the aid deliveries permitted by israel fell short of what was promised. but eventually hamas proceeded with the release following mediation by qatar and egypt. marc remillard, abc news, new york. hostages to be released later today has been shared with the israeli government this morning. >> according to cnn, they are expecting one of them to an american and the first so far. we'll be following that closely here in the bay area. there is a real connection to what's going on in the middle east. we know

of at least one man who has relatives who were taken hostage . and there are others who have family trapped in gaza that they are trying to get in contact with. abc seven news reporter tara campbell has this update. >> a red cross convoy carried 17 freed hostages inside israel saturday and two of them are oren rubinstein's relatives. >> up there is her mom, shiri weiss. >> we first met the pacifica resident a couple of weeks ago, putting up posters of the more than 200 hostages still being held by hamas. >> three of my first cousins have been have been kidnaped. my cousin alon, his wife shiri, and their 18 year old daughter, and she's one of the people that is listed as the children. >> can you tell me a little bit about them? >> sure. i mean, noga is 18. she was living at home with her parents, and she's just sweet girl. >> noga weiss and her mom, shari, have been listed as two

of the hostages handed over by hamas. and saturday, i also received a message from rubinstein saying they have been released and are back in israel, where he's been for the past week. hamas delayed the handover for hours saturday amid disputes over which palestinian prisoners would be released and over aid into gaza. everything from medical supplies to food and water are desperately needed in our area. >> they had they still had some water, even though it's tainted. so they said everyone was throwing up. everyone, you know, was it was a lot of people were sick because of the dirty water. >> vigésimo kara is a san francisco native and says he's lost dozens of family members in the war. these are only a few of the faces we lost many, many loved ones and we and we still don't know to the extent of how, you know, the latest number from both my mom and dad's side is over 65 family members killed. and he says he's expecting that number to climb. >> very difficult to function here in the us while, you know,

just seeing, you know, not knowing if your loved ones are are alive or dead. >> and while daunting, he says this four day cease fire does offer some hope. >> you know, seeing the images of hostages on both sides being released and the celebrations, i mean, it's just it's a feeling that of hope that you know, this this could end. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. and the south bay san jose police are investing getting a deadly crash that killed a pedestrian. >> it happened at the intersection of east capital express way and copperfield boulevard just after 1230. the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries and later died. authorities say this is the 44th fatal collision in the 46 traffic death in san jose this year and san francisco, one person is dead and another is injured after a shooting along turk street in the tenderloin. it happened just after 4 a.m. saturday near u.s. law. one of them was pronounced dead at the hospital while the other

suffered non-life threatening injuries. the incident is currently under investigation. anyone with any information on this is asked to contact sfpd. on the peninsula now, a rescue and a missing persons report. a five year old girl is hospitalized this morning after being rescued at martin's beach in half moon bay. the coast guard says a 54 year old man is also missing. firefighters say the man and child were swept out to sea. that search went on for several hours this morning. we do not know the condition of the child in the east bay. alameda county district attorney pamela price held another public forum to answer questions and explain what her office does. the event comes as the da faces a recall campaign less than a year after she took office. abc seven news reporter anser hassan has the latest. >> the position that you are elected me to fulfill is about accountability. saturday

evening, alameda county district attorney pamela price held another in a series of public forums. >> part of the discussion to explain what exactly a da does as a district attorney, i believe that i am the guardian of public safety. >> i'm not the police. i work on things after the police do their job. >> she listed off some of her accomplishments since taking office in january. those include hiring more crime investigators, expanding victim services and creating reentry and re sentencing commission. >> as police, i lose two days the da over prosecute us to make a success of statements and then they just send us away. >> joining her were those who were formerly incarcerated, including lawrence cox. he spoke of how rehabilitate and reentry programs lead to stronger public safety. >> whether it's education, whether it's looking for housing, whether it's looking for looking for work, i think it's imperative that we have reentry programs, not through just nonprofits, but through the same agencies that actually sentence us and send us away. >> there was also praise for da price's progressive approach to

sentencing, factoring in more context, which they believe can reduce over sentencing, especially for people of color, creating a situation where the people that was once committing these crimes have an opportunity to reform and have direction. >> not too many. i don't know. no other district attorney office that does this. >> in attendance was brenda grisham, who's part of the campaign to recall da price. she says even if da price boasts of new programs, that doesn't mean they're successful. and she thinks da price needs to do more for victims. >> they're in a grave so they don't get an opportunity to have a second chance at life. they don't have an opportunity to come back and get a job. they don't have an opportunity of any of that. but there's never any talk about these victims. and i feel that that's very unfair. >> da price has launched protect the win. her effort to challenge the recall all the while focused on what she was elected to do and that my deputies understood and that their mandate is not just to get a conviction, but to do justice in oakland anser hassan abc7 news, san francisco

had a great month for new housing approvals, but it's still a long road ahead. >> the city had more building permits approved for new housing in september than any other month this year. officials say the majority of the 194 units were approved for construction. however the city remains far behind pace of its aggressive housing goal. to make that goal, san francisco has to approve 833 units per month over the next eight years, which is a total of 82,000 units. speaking of housing, here's another trend. according to a new report by rentcafe, 1 in 4 millennials and 3 in 4 gen zers are living at home in the bay area due to housing costs. while it's more common for people to move back in with their parents after college while looking for jobs, even after finding work, young adults in the bay area often struggle to make it on their own. this trend is proving that the high cost of housing is keeping this trend longer than past generations. all right, let's take a peek outside with

is expected to recover. abc news reporter jacqueline lee is following this developing story. derek chauvin, convicted in the 2020 murder of george floyd, is recovering after being stabbed by a fellow inmate. >> the bureau of prisons saying an incarcerated individual was assaulted at the federal correctional institution tucson. employees at the prison performed life saving measures while waiting for ems. chauvin then taken to the hospital. minnesota attorney general keith ellison saying he was saddened to hear chauvin was the target of violence, adding he was convicted of his crimes and should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation. >> in the court commits you to the custody of the commissioner of corrections for a period of 270 months. the former minneapolis police officer is serving a 21 year federal sentence for violating george floyd's civil rights and a 22.5 year state sentence for second degree murder. >> at this medium security federal correctional facility in tucson, arizona, in august, officials moved chauvin to tucson from this maximum security state prison in minnesota, where he was mainly kept in solitary confinement, largely for his own protection.

in a recent documentary called the fall of minneapolis, chauvin spoke to the media for the first time, calling the trial and sentencing a sham, claiming his use of his knee on floyd's neck was part of his police training manual. >> in fact, i'm looking at it right now five 316 maximum restraint technique right in there written policy manual this past monday, the us supreme court declined to hear an appeal of chauvin's second degree murder conviction. >> his lawyer claiming he had not received a fair trial. jacqueline lee, abc news, los angeles. >> pope francis is now back home after being hospitalized with the flu. the 86 year old pontiff was checked out after being forced to cancel some weekend activities. the vatican says a ct scan ruled out any lung complications. the flu was a concern because part of the pope's lung was removed when he was a young man in argentina. he's now expected to return to the public today when he's scheduled to address crowds in his weekly message in saint peter's square. well, as you

head out this sunday, beware of sneaker waves and rip currents across parts of the bay area. high tides have prompted a beach hazard warning from sonoma county to monterey county until 8:00 tomorrow morning. the national weather service is warning people to stay out of the water and never turn your back to the ocean on what was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime. is now the cruise. that is not happening. life at sea says it has to cancel its first ever three year cruise because it doesn't have a ship. the cruise was initially supposed to depart on november first, but has been postponed twice now and even reload exported to amsterdam this mishap has left its passengers now in a pinch. some of them sold or rented their homes for this voyage and they're now out hundreds of thousands of dollars. life at sea says refunds will take a few months from cruises to credit. now, if your holiday shopping is on a budget this year, you may want to check your junk drawer. or

you might just be sitting on a small fortune. who knows? a recent bank rate survey found almost half of american adults have at least one unused gift card voucher or store credit. nationwide and americans are holding on to about $23 billion in unused gift cards. the average value about $187 per person, not bad. well, with the holiday rush heating up, so are restaurant reservations in the city. after the handful of difficult pandemic years, many san francisco restaurant say this holiday season is off to a very strong start. abc7 news reporter tim johns shows us how the bookings are booming. i talked to restaurant staff around san francisco. >> the next few weeks and you'll likely hear a similar story. >> we have a full calendar for every night through the first through december up until the 20th. i believe, and that probably will fill in as well everywhere from the embarcadero to soma to the marina. >> restaurants say their holiday

bookings are booming. hillary newsom is one of the owners of balboa cafe. she says business this year is expected to rival or even exceed pre-pandemic numbers. they were definitely seeing people willing to get out there in larger groups. >> that's the biggest difference for us this year. >> but it's not just large groups who are heading out this holiday season. liz curtis is the ceo of daily city based events company. the fulcrum group. >> we're doing a whole lot of homeowner parties, small orders, large orders, big corporate events, small corporate events, holiday parties. >> similar sentiments were echoed by matthew dolan, the executive chef at 25. lusk dolan tells us the san francisco dining scene as a whole is finally seeing a substantial recovery following the pandemic. >> i'm hearing about new restaurants opening, and some of my colleagues are raising money successfully to open their dream restaurants here in san francisco. >> the uptick in business is expected to last beyond the holiday season, too. in fact, every restaurant we talked to is anticipating a strong 2024. but

after years of slow business. dolan says he's looking forward to the future no matter how hectic it may be. >> we are optimistic. we are optimistic because we're seeing a trend and it. feels pre good in san francisco. >> tim johns, abc7 news. >> well, now that thanksgiving is over, it's time to start thinking about a tree for the holidays. christmas tree lots are already doing a brisk trade in oakland's piedmont district. local scouts helped to load the trees onto cars. you see here in this video, this lot on moraga avenue supports almost 1000 cubs and scouts who get the chance to practice their people skills. >> talking to adults for sure. for some of the younger kids, it's some sales practice. we get our cub scouts, they're our best salespeople. well, it's always great to come out and be helped by a second or third grade cub who can barely lift a tree coming at you. >> exactly. who can say no to a cub scout? this lot opened 54 years ago. it's a community

effort with people supporting the scouts for many generations as the lot is open saturdays and sundays 9 to 7, and on weekdays, 4 to 8 through the holiday season. well, speaking of lisa, have you checked that off the list yet? i know we were talking before thanksgiving whether or not people put up their trees. right. >> actually, i have not. but i've seen many cars with the tree on people. definitely getting started. and the lots for sure, all over town. how about you? >> i actually did it last night. oh good. i made it up the stairs. >> wow, that's impressive. that's fun. extending the season. all right. good morning, everybody. certainly feeling like winter out there where we have the cold conditions in the southern salinas valley and interior monterey county have a freeze watch while the north bay has a frost advisory. just like yesterday. and here's a look at some of the clouds that have been moving into parts of the east bay, the south bay, the peninsula there. cirrus clouds and we'll see some high clouds from time to time, but mostly sunny conditions as well. here are the 30s, san ramon valley,

35, looking at 35 in dublin. walnut creek, 33, and temperatures elsewhere. if you're not in the 30s, you're in the 40s except closer to the bay. we had a 50 san francisco freezing novato 31 in santa rosa with right along the coast right now 46 degrees. mountain view a chilly 37. here's a look at our forecast highlights. you can see how clear it is out there that frost advisory north bay and the freeze warning well to the south. sunny days, cold mornings through monday and then tuesday, the clouds begin to increase and then we'll see small chances of rain. but for the current time, we do have our coastal flood advisory. the high tides there allowing for some flooding right inside the bay here. manzanita parkway and mill valley. and some of the sloughs into the east bay and also along the peninsula where we have that low lying marsh. so wouldn't be surprised if you see some flooded parking lots out there early on. otherwise, we talked about our beach hazard statement through tomorrow. still some

energetic swell here. wave heights, 9 to 10ft. but we're concerned about the increased threat of sneaker waves and also that run up close enough to the coast there. that could catch you off guard. so keep that in mind if you're headed out to the coast. here's a look at our hour by hour planner. and you'll notice that the skycast just shows the clouds there from time to time. and we'll break out into more sun into your monday. here comes tuesday and stopping this right here by the overnight hours into early wednesday where we'll see some rain right off the coast. so preliminary estimates gets everyone wet here through late tuesday. and then there are weak systems behind it into wednesday, picking this up late tuesday night. and notice we've got a system out of the north that wants to bring in some snow into thursday day. and then we stay pretty active with a couple of fronts, getting close again into the first part of december. so adding up right on through this is this one says

san francisco international airport, which will be bustling with travelers today and tomorrow. good morning. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather. lisa is here and boy, it's chilly out there. it is. >> had to get the winter coat the past couple of days. turn on the heat. and a we get started this morning, you can see the frost advisory once again with usor the north bay valleys. the southern salinas valley interior, monterey county has a freeze watch. so much colder in the valleys as temperatures are easily dropping into the 30s and below because of a very still air mass, 32 in novato and santa rosa. but look at those mid 30s over into concord, san ramon livermore certainly chilly for you by fairfield at 34 degrees 36. palo alto. so anywhere from five degrees colder this morning around san carlos a couple degrees colder in hayward and concord 13 degrees colder north east winds at a couple thousand feet. so that's what's keeping

it warmer above our heads. and then at the surface where winds are calm, temperatures really cool off. so some high clouds mixed in with sunshine today. upper 50s in our inland valley 60s around the bay. and we'll talk about increasing chances of rain in a few minutes. >> stephanie, lisa, thank you. travel this season is expected to set new records as families return home from the thanksgiving holiday. the transportation security administration anticipates a record breaking 3 million passengers to board flights today. airline officials say 2023 is the lowest flight cancellations us airports have seen in the past five years. delta airlines suggests travelers arrive two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights on the roads. triple a predicts more than 55 million americans will travel at least 50 miles between last wednesday and today. >> there's been an appetite for traveling. people want to get back to tradition for the holiday weekend. they want to see family. they want to see friends and officials advised

those traveling to check flight statuses and road conditions before leaving. >> well, in san francisco, the ban on street vending along mission street goes into effect tomorrow. street vendors will be asked to move or sell indoors if not, there, items could be confiscated. more than 100 of them are fighting back. they created the mission street vendors association seeking to delay the 90 day ban. abc seven spoke with one man who says his only source of income over the last decade has been street vending. >> it's asked me familia de mi trabajo. my family depends on my job. they ocupa tu familia. you're worried about them. >> para mi familia porque i'm worried about my family supervisor. >> hillary. ronen brought this ban forward. her aide tells us it's difficult to regulate street vendors due to how many there are, so they spent half $1 million in rent and construction for three locations. they're planning to open for vendors on monday in the north bay push

hope shoppers keep that in mind all through the holiday season. good tidings for christmas and a happy new year in the north bay. cornell bernard, abc seven news. well the numbers are in and black friday is setting holiday sales records both in store and online. >> retail sales were up from last year. one report from sensormatic solutions found traffic in brick and mortar stores rose 4.6. another group, adobe analytics, reported a record $9.8 billion in online sales on black friday. that's a 7.5% jump from just last year. well, speaking of many of you may have been out there snagging those black friday deals while all others are waiting on cyber monday. adobe analytics predicts $12 billion in revenue on monday, so-called cyber week is expected to rake in more than $37 billion in online sales. that's more than a 5% increase compared to last year. the

sentiment that especially rings true for one group of artists. one local woman from sebastopol is inspiring others with her paintings. the holiday greeting cards are not exactly hand-painted, but the artwork is just as if not more impressive. here's abc's melissa adan. >> i am in inspired by what's around me so i paint a lot of the wine country. >> alana tillman is an artist in northern california, but something sets her apart from a majority of the world's painters . she holds the paintbrush in her mouth. >> i was born with a condition called arthrogryposis, which left me without the use of my arms and hands. i had quite a few surgeries as well as a kid, so we kind of used art to cope. >> now she's on a scholarship with the association of mouth and foot painting artists, a worldwide organization of almost 800 adaptive artists who have lost the use of their hands and

bowl between oakland tech and mcclymonds plus the winner of today's boys game will get to advance to the cif northern california playoffs. >> good luck to all. well turning to weather now, lisa, certainly another chilly day out there. >> yeah, we have several more of them. stephanie on the way. in fact, the high clouds doing us a bit of a favor this morning. we are just a couple of degrees milder here. you're probably didn't notice it, but i noticed it leaving this morning. i thought, oh, not as frigid, but it's just because of the high clouds and we're still very cold. still have a frost advisory for the north bay and also the southern salinas valley. a freeze watch and interior monterey. so there's a look at live doppler seven going in closer. and most of the cirrus is along the peninsula. the east bay and the south bay. but we'll mix that in with sunshine. so mostly sunny today with some of those high clouds. 36, santa clara, 40 in san jose currently. that'll continue to drop off, 36 around mountain view. chilly there. stanford in the mid 30s and looking at temperatures really varying

widely look at alameda that 51 really sticks out a little bit of wind allowing for temperatures to come up. but looking at the low 40s, santa rosa, 33, nevada, 49, san francisco. so a clear shot out there. beautiful with the frost advisory for the north bay until 9:00 and that freeze warning into the salinas valley. sunny conditions cold mornings through monday. and then by later on on tuesday, we could see some rain that will pick up again with the second system out of the north on wednesday. we're going to add those up and look at a pretty good rainfall totals. but first, our coastal flood advisory, the high tide there allowing for some of the areas inside the bay from the north bay to the east bay and the peninsula to see a little bit of flooding here right on through noontime. we see this from time to time, actually not a big deal, but hopefully you're aware of that. and don't get caught off guard. if you go for a hike and come back in, your car is underwater, that's certainly a problem. or has some water near the wheels there. beach hazard statement

through monday morning, 8 to 9 foot waves right now. and we'll look for the wave heights to come down. but the swell is still quite energetic, moving a lot of water right at the coast and inside the bay. so kind of dangerous there. looking at your sunday forecast with those high clouds throughout the afternoon. plenty of sunshine. and then as we get into your monday, another cold start, probably more frost advisories because we'll be clear as we get into your monday morning. and then as we get to about noon time, this is wednesday in the middle of the night here. and we'll look for the rainfall to be moving in. and as we add up, not only tuesday, but into wednesday, not bad. maybe about a quarter of an inch here so far this is an early call. but notice the half inch redwood city in san jose. so that's why it's a little suspect at this point. and as we look at the trends there, you can see the continuation of a few weak systems, some mountain snow as we get through to december 2nd. so mostly sunny with the sun and high cloud mix today, low to mid 60s. the
