yeah and our final days of november, maybe some rain as we get into the last couple of days of nember. >> but but, yes, it's been all about the frost in the north bay. there's some high clouds, the cirrus clouds allowing for temperatures to be maybe a few degrees, not as cold, but we're still expecting low to mid 30s here for and we have the mid 30s over into the east bay. you can see for yourself there, san ramon, 3436 livermore 28 novato with 31 santa rosa and look at that 54 half moon bay. get a little wind and the temperature stays up concord 12 degrees colder. fairfield 13 degrees colder and upper elevations have an east wind and it's in the 40s from mount tam to mount diablo. and then at the surface, a little breeze here and there and it's not as cold. we'll look outside nice and clear for everyone with 40s, 30s and we'll be out of the 30s by 9:00. some 50 soquel's at the coast and then high clouds, a mix of sunshine. upper 50s inland 60s closer to the bay. stephanie lisa, thank you. >> developing news now. 41

hostages were freed in the first two days of the ceasefire between israel and hamas. hamas releasing 24 hostages on friday followed by another 17 on saturday. but the second release almost didn't happen after hamas said it was going to delay. here's abc's marc remillard with the details. >> hamas releasing 13 more israelis and four more foreigners on saturday, one day after 24 hostages were freed. friday those freed hostages leaving gaza through the rafah border crossing, then taken to israeli hospitals to be reunited with their families. of the 13 israeli detainees released saturday, eight were ages 18 and under, including one as young as three, according to the israeli prime minister's office. the four foreigners released saturday were all thai nationals as part of the exchange, the international committee of the red cross said it facilitated the release of 33 palestinian detainees from israel to the west bank in northern gaza. palestinians crowding around trucks filled with much needed aid. 61 trucks were delivered

with food, water and emergency medical supplies, according to the united nations office of humanitarian affairs. there were also 11 ambulances delivered to the al-shifa hospital to help with evacuations. those deliveries part of the four day ceasefire deal between israel and hamas. hamas delayed saturday's scheduled hostage release, claiming israel had violated the terms of the truce deal, alleging the aid deliveries permitted by israel fell short of what was promised. but eventually hamas proceeded with the release following mediation by qatar and egypt. mark remillard, abc news, new york. >> new this morning, the israeli government got word more hostages will be released later today. according to cnn. they are expecting one of them to be in america on the first so far are. and here in the bay area, there is a real connection to what's going on in the middle east. we know of at least one man who has relatives who were taken hostage and there are others who have family trapped in gaza that they are trying to get in contact with. abc seven

news reporter tara campbell has this update. >> a red cross convoy carried, 17 freed hostages inside israel saturday, and two of them are oren rubenstein. lines relatives up there is her mom, shiri weiss . we first met the pacifica resident a couple of weeks ago, putting up posters of the more than 200 hostages still being held by hamas. >> three of my first cousins have been have been kidnaped. my cousin alan, his wife sherry, and their 18 year old daughter. and she's one of the people that is listed as the children. >> can you tell me a little bit about them? >> sure. i mean, noga is 18. she was living at home with her parents, and she's just a sweet girl. >> noga weiss and her mom, sherry, have been listed as two of the hostages handed over by hamas. and saturday, i also received a message from rubenstein saying they have been released and are back in israel,

where he's been for the past week. hamas delayed the handover for four hours saturday amid disputes over which palestinian prisoners would be released and over aid into gaza. everything from medical supplies to food and water are desperately needed in our area. >> they had they still had some water even though it's tainted. so they said everyone was throwing up, everyone, you know, was it was a lot of people were sick because cause of the dirty water. >> bassem okara is a san francisco native and says he's lost dozens of family members in the war. these are only a few of the faces we lost many, many loved ones. >> and we and we still don't know to the extent of, you know, the latest number from both my mom and dad's side is over 65 family members killed. >> and he says he's expecting that number to climb. >> very difficult to function here in the us while you know, just seeing you know, not knowing if your loved ones are are alive or dead. >> and while daunting, he says this four day cease fire does offer some hope. you know,

seeing the images of hostages on both sides being released and the celebrations, i mean, it's just it's a feeling that of hope that you know, this this could end. tara campbell, abc seven news in the south bay san jose police are investigating a deadly crash that killed a pedestrian. >> it happened at the intersection of east capitol expressway and copperfield boulevard just after 1230. that pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries and later died. authorities say this is the 44th fatal collision and the 46th traffic death in san jose this year. in san francisco, one person is dead and another is injured after a shooting along turk street in the tenderloin. it happened just after 4 a.m. saturday near ucla. one of them was pronounced dead at the hospital while the other suffered non-life threatening injuries. the incident is currently under investigation. anyone with any information is asked to contact sfpd. on the peninsula now, a rescue and a

missing persons report. a five year old girl is hospitalized this morning after being rescued at martin's beach in half moon bay. the coast guard says a 54 year old man is also missing. firefighters say the man and child were swept out to sea. that search went on for several hours this morning. we do not know the condition of the child in the east bay. alameda county district attorney pamela price held another public forum to answer questions and explain what her office does. the event comes as the da faces a recall campaign less than a year after she took office. abc7 news reporter anser hassan has the latest on the position that you are elected me to fulfill is about accountability. >> saturday evening, alameda county district attorney pamela price held another in a series of public forums. part of the discussion to explain what exactly a da does because as a district attorney i believe that i am the guardian of public

safety. >> i'm not the police. i work on things after the police do their job. >> she listed off some of her accomplishments since taking office in january. those include hiring more crime investigators, expanding victim services and creating reentry and resentencing commissions to police neighborhoods. >> the da's. the da's over prosecute to us to make success of statements. and then they just send us away. >> joining her were those who were formerly incarcerated, including lawrence cox. he spoke of how rehabilitate and reentry programs lead to stronger public safety. >> whether it's education, whether it's looking for housing, whether it's looking for looking for work, i think it's imperative that we have reentry programs, not through just nonprofits, but through the same agencies that actually sentence us and send us away. >> there was also praise for da price's progressive approach to sentencing, factoring in more context, which they believe can reduce over sentencing, especially for people of color, creating a situation where the people that was once committing these crimes have an opportunity

to reform and have direction. >> not too many. i don't know. no other district attorney office that does this. >> in attendance was brenda grisham, who's part of the campaign to recall da price. she says even if da price boasts of new programs, that doesn't mean they're successful. and she thinks da price needs to do more for victims. >> they're in a grave so they don't get an opportunity to have a second chance at life. they don't have an opportunity to come back and get a job. they don't have an opportunity of any of that. but there's never any talk about these victims. and i feel that that's very unfair. >> da price has launched protect the win, her effort to challenge the recall, all the while focused on what she was elected to do and that my deputies understand that their mandate is not just to get a conviction, but to do justice in oakland anser hassan abc7 news, san francisco had a great month for new housing approvals, but it's still a long way from the goal. >> the city had more building permits approved for new housing in september than any other

month this year. officials say the majority of the 194 units were approved for construction. however, the city remains far behind pace of its aggressive housing goal. to make that goal, san francisco has to approve 833 units per month over the next eight years, which is a total of 82,000 units. now, speaking of housing, here is another trend. according to a new report by rent cafe, 1 in 4 millennials and 3 in 4 gen zers are living at home in the bay area due to rising housing costs. while it's more common for people to move back in with their parents after college while looking for jobs, even after finding work, young adults in the bay area often struggle to make it on their own. this trend is proving that the high cost of housing is kethst gerations. all right. let's take a peek outside with lisa. good morning. >> all right. good morning to you. what a gorgeous view here. nice and clear. we've got some wind in the upper elevations keeping temperatures is warmer. the higher you get at the

time now is 639. former minneapolis police officer derek chauvin was seriously injured after he was stabbed by a fellow inmate at a federal prison in arizona. the 47 year old is being treated at the hospital and is expected to recover. abc news reporter jacqueline lee is following this developing story. >> derek chauvin, convicted in the 2020 murder of george floyd, is recovering after being stabbed by a fellow inmate. the bureau of prisons saying an incarcerated individual was assaulted at the federal correctional institution tucson. employees at the prison performed life saving measures while waiting for ems. chauvin then taken to the hospital. minnesota attorney general keith ellison saying he was sad to hear. chauvin was the target of violence, adding he was convicted of his crimes that should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation. >> in the court commits you to

the custody of the commissioner of corrections for a period of 270 months. >> the former minneapolis police officer is serving a 21 year federal sentence for violate george floyd's civil rights and a 22.5 year state sentence for second degree murder. at this medium security federal correctional facility in tucson, arizona, in august, officials moved chauvin to tucson from this maximum security state prison in minnesota, where he was mainly kept in solitary confinement, largely for his own protection. in a recent documentary called the fall of minneapolis, chauvin spoke to the media for the first time, calling the trial and sentencing a sham, claiming his use of his knee on floyd's neck was part of his police training manual. >> in fact, i'm looking at it right now, 5-3 16 maximum restraint technique right in their written policy manual. >> all this past monday, the us supreme court declined to hear an appeal of chauvin's second degree murder conviction, his lawyer claiming he had not received a fair trial. jacqueline lee, abc news, los angeles. i'm not able to give. >> pope francis is now back home

after being hospitalized with the flu. the 86 year old pontiff was checked out after being forced to cancel some weekend activities. the vatican says a ct scan ruled out any lung complications. the flu was a concern because part of the pope's lung was removed when he was a young man in argentina. he's now expected to return to the public today when he's scheduled to address crowds in his weekly message in saint peter's square. well, what was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime is now the cruise that isn't happening. a life at sea says it has to cancel its first ever three year cruise because it doesn't have a ship. the cruise was initially supposed to depart on november 1st, but has been postponed twice and even relocate to amsterdam. this mishap has left its passengers in a pinch. some of them sold or rented their homes for this voyage, and they're now out hundreds of thousands of dollars . life at sea says refunds will take a few months. well with the holiday rush heating up, so are

restaurant reservations in the city. after the handful of difficult pandemic years, many san francisco restaurants say this holiday season is off to a very strong start. abc7 news reporter tim johns shows us how the bookings are booming. >> talk to restaurants around san francisco the next few weeks and you'll likely hear a similar story. >> we have a full calendar every night through the first through december up until the 20th, i believe. and that probably will fill in as well everywhere from the embarcadero to soma to the marina. >> restaurants say their holiday bookings are booming. hillary newsome is one of the owners of balboa cafe. she says business this year is expected to rival or even exceed pre-pandemic numbers. >> we're definitely seeing people willing to get out there in larger groups. that's the biggest differentiator for us this year. >> but it's not just large groups who are heading out this holiday season. liz curtis is the ceo of daly city based events company, the fulcrum group. >> we're doing a whole lot of homeowner parties, small orders,

large orders, big corporate events, small corporate events, holiday parties. >> similar sentiments were echoed by matthew dolan, the executive chef at 25 losq dole tells us the san francisco dining scene as a whole is finally seeing a substantial recovery following the pandemic. >> i'm hearing about new restaurants opening and some of my colleagues are raising money successfully. to open their dream restaurants here in san francisco. >> the uptick in business is expected to last beyond the holiday season, too. in fact, every restaurant we talked to is anticipating a strong 2024. but after years of slow business. dolan says he's looking forward to the future, no matter how hectic it may be. >> we are optimistic. we're optimistic because we're seeing a trend and it feels pretty good in san francisco. >> tim jonze, abc seven news. >> well, now that thanksgiving is over, it's time to start thinking about a tree for the holidays. christmas tree lots are already doing a brisk trade in oakland's piedmont district. local scouts helped to load the

trees onto cars. this lot on moraga avenue supports almost 1000 cubs and scouts who get the chance to practice their people skills. >> talking to adults for sure. for some of the younger kids, it's some sales practice. as we get our cub scouts, they're our best salespeople. it's always great to come out and be helped by a second or third grade cub who can barely lift a tree. >> the lot opened 54 years ago. it's a community effort with people supporting the scouts for many generations. the lot is open saturdays and sundays 9 to 7, and on weekdays, 4 to 8 through the holiday season. well, speaking of lisa, my fern made it up ■the stairs last nigt and i managed somehow to get all those lights on there, too. >> that's amazing. it looks really good too. congrats to you. that's a big job. and usually it's a two person job. but yeah, a lot of people out doing that. the weather's been really nice. if you waited till about 2:00, it really warmed up. but it's been cold and it

continues to be cold, especially in our north bay valleys, although in the east bay we are in the 30s as well. so some high cirrus clouds keeping some of us a little milder. and as we look at live doppler seven, just the clouds now, we will be tracking a little bit of rain as we get into tuesday night. but right now it is about the chill out there for sure in the south bay. look at all the 30s here. santa clara, 36 degrees. sunnyvale 37, mountain view is 36. stanford 35 some 40s here. cupertino a lot milder at 45. and as we go around the bay notice temperatures in the 50s alameda that is legit because we have a little bit of wind coming in from the upper elevations and allowing for a little bit more warmth around the water here and temperatures in the east bay valley. so about 36 livermore, you see that 28 in novato. this is where we have the frost advisory through 9:00. could even get into a more expanded frost advisory for your monday morning and tuesday morning

because of the clear sky. so wait and see with the national weather service that sun is still a ways from coming up but a pretty view out there as we look at the freeze watch. that's down in the southern salinas valley around monterey interior. monterey sunny days, cold mornings through monday. then we'll get increasing clouds. first chance of rain arrives later on tuesday and then again into wednesday. coastal flood advisory from 7:00 this morning through noon time. this coincides with the high tides and looking at possibility of some flooding here from the north bay through marin down through the peninsula and over to the east bay, all the way down into the south bay. so the high tide, i think, at over 6.5ft here by about eight, 950 in the morning. so certainly it may notice that if you're out and about, beach hazards statement has been extended through monday morning with the the waves coming down a bit, but we will see the threat out west northwest facing beaches from

sonoma to big sur with some dangerous conditions. so keep that in mind if you're headed to the coast. it's been a popular place for sure. monday, look at even colder, perhaps some 20s and 30s. by tuesday, we are still feeling the chill in the morning. notice by wednesday we've got the cloud cover due to some rain headed our way so it won't be as cold. here's a look at early. look at the rain from mid tuesday into wednesday and rainfall amounts then anywhere from maybe a quarter of an inch to a third of an inch. that's an early call. we'll fine tune that with a higher resolution. models about 24 hours out, 64 in oakland, 62 in napa. the accuweather seven day forecast a couple of cold mornings increasing clouds and some chances of rain headed our way midweek

tomorrow. good morning. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather. lisa is here and boy, i got to turn up that heat this week. yes certainly do. >> or get another blanket becae it's been cold. it's going t stay that way. and then we're going to add a little bit of rain to the forecast. here's a look at our frost advisory through 9:00 in the north bay where temperatures have dropped off near freezing, but also we have the cold numbers over into the east bay as well. here's a current look at that, 34 in san ramon livermore is at 36 as well as palo alto, 28in novato 31. santa rosa. napa is freezing. ukiah 28. and as we look at our 24 hour temperature change concord getting into the act now with 12 degrees colder as well as the delta. yesterday you were a little milder. so above 1000ft we have the northeast wind that is bringing those cool conditions us from the valley, although it is mixing the atmosphere. so that's why we're milder above in the 40s mountain mount diablo, high clouds and sun today, 50s and 60s and we'll

talk a level one storm, a couple of them coming up this week stephanie lisa thank you. >> travel this season is expected to set new records as families return home from the thanksgiving holiday. the transportation security administration anticipates a record breaking 3 million passengers to board flights today. airline officials say 2023 is the lowest flight cancellations in us airports have seen in the past five years. delta air lines suggest travelers arrive two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights on the roads. triple a predicts more than 55 million americans will travel at least 50 miles between last wednesday and today. >> there's been an appetite for traveling. people want to get back to tradition for the holiday weekend. they want to see family. they want to see friends. >> officials advise those traveling to check flight statuses and road conditions before leaving home in san francisco, the ban on street vending along mission street

goes into effect tomorrow. street vendors will be asked to move or sell indoors. if not, there items could be confiscated. more than 100 of them are now fighting back. they created the mission street vendors association seeking to delay the 90 day ban. abc seven news spoke with one man who says his only source of income over the last decade has been street vending. it says mi familia depende de mi trabajo. >> my family depends on my job. they preocupa tu familia. you're worried about them. >> mi familia porque i'm worried about my family. >> supervisor hillary ronen brought this ban forward and her aide tells us it's difficult to regulate street vendors due to how many there are. >> they spent half $1 million in rent and construction for three locations. they're planning to open for vendors on monday in the north bay, a push this small business saturday for shoppers to think local when buying those holiday gifts. abc7 news

in the north bay. cornell bernard, abc seven news. >> well, the numbers are in and black friday is setting holiday sales records both in store and online. retail sales were up from last year. one report from sensormatic solutions found traffic in brick and mortar stores rose 4.6. another group, adobe analytics, reported a record $9.8 billion in online sales on black friday. that's a 7.5% jump from just last year. and many of you may have been out there snagging those black friday deals. well, plenty of us are waiting on cyber monday for all the holiday sales. adobe analytics predicts $12 billion in revenue on monday. so-called cyber week is expected to rake in more than $37 billion in online sales. that's more than a 5% increase compared to last year. the national retail federation anticipates holiday spending will reach record levels through the next month. still ahead on abc morning, some

we are 20 minutes out from full sunrise time now. 638. well, it's the most wonderful time of the year. a sentiment that is especially rings true for one local group of artists. one woman from sebastopol is inspiring others with her paintings. the holiday greeting cards are not exactly hand-painted, but the artwork is just as if not more impressive. here's abc's melissa adan.

>> i am inspired by what's around me, so i paint a lot of the wine country. >> alana tillman is an artist in northern california, but something sets her apart from a majority of the world's painters. she holds the paintbrush in her mouth. >> i was born with a condition called arthrogryposis ptosis, which left me without the use of my arms and hands. i had quite a few surgeries as well as a kid, so we kind of used art to cope. >> now she's on a scholarship with the association of mouth and foot painting artists, a worldwide organization of almost 800 adaptive artists who have lost the use of their hands and paint by holding the brush in their mouth or between their toes. what makes our association so special? >> it's the structure of the association is built so that the artists, through the sale of their work, they are able to earn an independent living and find some degree of financial

live doppler seven. the high cirrus clouds from about the bay area into southern california. so that is helping keep temperatures up in a few places. but elsewhere, they've been dropping, namely the east bay valleys and of course, the north bay, where it's always cold, right from mt. tam, upper elevations in the 40s, lower elevations near freezing. it is 49, san francisco, 46. in oakland, mountain view at 4143. san jose, 36. palo alto, half moon bay a mild 54 degrees. and from our exploratorium camera, there's a look at those high clouds. how about that 30 in novato it was 2831. santa rosa 32 in napa so freezing cold again. hopefully you covered those plants. and of course, we've got the heat on 34 by the delta. and notice concord is cooler. livermore both at 36 degrees and from vollmer peak, the thin high clouds here so frosty in the north bay looking at sunny days and cold mornings through tomorrow and then rain chances arrive as soon as tuesday night. looking at a

coastal flood advisory from the next few minutes till about noon time, high tide at over six feet, over 6.5ft at about 950. so this is where it is likely to flood the same areas where we have the slues, the marshes, the low lying areas inside the bay there. so be careful. and then our beach hazard statement extended through tomorrow morning. so we're looking at still that hazardous seas, but the wave heights are beginning to come down here. but a lot of water moving along the coast inside the bay, creating dangerous conditions there. and if you're not shopping, maybe you're at the beach enjoying the weather. so that's why we have to pass this along to you with sneaker waves certainly being a threat there, northwest facing beaches. i talked about running behind. we had that one little rainmaker, 48% of average sfo. look at oakland, only 28% of average, 39% in san jose, santa rosa doing the best. but we are certainly slipping with 50% in

san francisco. it is still early. december is looking more promising. a couple of weak systems headed our way wednesday, thursday and then perhaps again as we get into early december, the weekend next weekend, actually, here's a look at the overnight lows. very cold again tomorrow morning. look at that, freezing over into the east bay, the north bay with the clear sky. tuesday, almost as cold, increasing clouds come later on in the day as well as the rain chances. then by wednesday, it's rainy and that's why we're milder. here's a look at that system coming in later tuesday for a rainy tuesday morning commute. and as it travels down the coast here are looking at some of the higher rainfall totals where it lingers, perhaps in the south bay, the peninsula. but early call on the rain estimates late tuesday into wednesday, bringing about a quarter of about a quarter of an inch to a third of an inch for most of us, some areas could pick up maybe a half inch. and this is still far out. we need the higher resolution models to pinpoint the accurate rainfall amount. 63 today in fremont as well as palo alto

with some high clouds around, but we'll call it mostly sunny. so the mix of high clouds and some sunshine. the accuweather seven day forecast, a couple of frosty mornings increasing clouds, rain arrives at night on tuesday. level one system on wednesday day rainy and cool and then we'll get into that unsettled weather pattern keeping that shower chance on thursday and next saturday. it looks like we could see more rain, maybe even a thunderstorm. so this is what we'd like to see, certainly into december. >> yeah, no, absolutely. and that 50% total for san francisco for rainfall estimates compared to. >> yeah, but it's still a couple days off. yeah. oh 50. oh i see what you're saying. yes >> from just looking back i'm thinking back of december of last year, right when we started to get all those atmospheric rivers. totally. >> we were way ahead. so we have plenty of time to catch up. okay. >>
