supply system in pennsylvania and the group claims this is just the beginning. >> this morning, a cyber group backed by iran is taking credit for breaching a water treatment plant in pennsylvania. >> their ability to infiltrate into industrial control systems and possibly destroy it or worse , cause damage to our infrastructure is very, very concerning. >> according to the beaver county and newspaper, the municipal water authority in aliquippa says hackers partially took control of a substation saturday, shutting down a pump that supplies drinking water in beaver county, a message appeared on a pump reading. you have been hacked. every equipment made in israel is cyber avengers legal target. water pressure in some areas was reportedly affected before workers enabled a backup system. the cyber avengers hacking group is also accused of targeting ten water treatment plants in israel since the war against hamas began. >> the cyber avengers are

hacking collective that is associated with iran. they also are supportive of palestine and ever since the conflict began, we have seen them proactively targeting anything associated with israel. >> experts say the cyber avengers group is becoming increasingly sophisticated. federal authorities reportedly believe the group successfully hacked four water treatment plants on the east coast in recent days. all of them use software developed by an israeli owned company. >> this group has expressed that this is just the beginning and we should be vigilant that future attacks might occur where they see opportunities. >> so pennsylvania state police say they are using a team of computer experts to investigate the hack overseas as a cease fire between israel and hamas has been extended. >> and that means more hostages being released in gaza. but so far, no more americans have been freed. abc's justin finch is here now with the very latest. justin, good morning. >> andrew good morning. and there is a chance this extended

plans to surge more aid into gaza and will continue working to free all hamas held hostages. andrew >> justin finch for us in washington. justin thank you. the man accused of shooting three palestinian college students in vermont is held without bail after pleading not guilty. 48 year old jason eaton is a former boy scout leader who reportedly had interned as a harvard research assistant. eaton's mother tells the daily beast he previously struggled with depression. the shooting is being investigated as a possible hate crime. the family of the most seriously injured student says doctors fear he may not walk again. >> i'm shaken. i'm hollow inside. i'm aching to be with my son. he's lying, immobilized in a bed. he had very high spirits in the beginning and i think now it's beginning to sink into him. the extent of the enormity of the challenge that faces him. >> police say when they knocked on eaton's door, he told them, i've been waiting for you, but they say there was no indication of a possible motive.

>> the weather is making news this morning. several people were injured in this chain reaction crash. you see closed interstate 86 in idaho for seven hours. up to 30 vehicles were involved and police are now blaming the dense fog in the area at the time. happening right now, heavy lake effect snow is piling up in western new york. it's the result of the season's coldest air so far, moving across the great lakes. some areas could see up to two feet. we'll get the full forecast in just a few moments. >> we turn now to the memorial service being held today for rosalynn carter. former presidents and first ladies, even country music stars are set to attend. this morning, a final goodbye to former first lady rosalynn carter. president biden and the first lady, along with former president clinton and all living former first ladies are expected to attend today's service in atlanta. it follows yesterday's procession. ms. carter carried away in a casket. well-wishers lining the streets of americus, georgia, ready to stop the procession moving three hours north to the carter center

for a ceremony paying tribute to ms. carter's humanitarian legacy . >> when asked what she wanted to be remembered for, she said, i would like to think that people understood that i took advantage of the opportunities that i was given, and i did the best that i could. and i have to say, mrs. carter did more than that. >> she'll also be remembered for the small things how she and her husband lived simple lives in a small home with old kitchen appliance as they refused to replace her grandkids, say she still washed her plastic food bags, using them until they broke. >> they did the things that they did in their lives, but they came back to this place where they lived and loved, and they didn't change in their last moments together, we've learned former president carter ordered his bed facing hers, not side to side. >> so he could talk and see his wife's face. president carter is reportedly determined to attend the tribute service for his wife today. >> he is 99 years old and is current only still in hospice care. at his home, he is so determined he had a new suit

made because his old one didn't fit. >> members of the atlanta symphony orchestra will play some of miss carter's favorite music for today's memorial. garth brooks and trisha yearwood will also perform. and you can watch the ceremony at 1 p.m. eastern on our streaming service, abc news live. >> authorities have closed a border crossing in texas to stop what one official describes as an unprecedented flow of migrants coming from mexico. cars were not allowed to cross one of the bridges in eagle pass and traffic at a crossing in arizona was also limited. border officials blamed the new migrant surge on disinfo nation coming from smugglers. gas prices have now fallen for 60 consecutive days, according to triple a. >> that's the longest streak in more than a year. prices nationwide now average 325. that's down $0.05 in the last week and down $0.60 from mid september to today is also travel tuesday, day one of the best days for deals on travel, airlines and travel sites are offering discounts up to 60% on flights and vacation packages.

>> doctors are seeing a spike in respiratory illnesses, with ten states now reporting high or very high activity. the orange and dark red colors on this map here show areas with the highest concentration of people suffering from the flu, covid, rsv, or common cold. it's typical for cases to spike in the south before moving north. flu and covid hospitalized. asians are highest among people over 65, while most rsv patients are children. meanwhile, in china, officials say a surge in cases of respiratory illnesses is overcrowding hospitals there and likely due to covid restrictions being lifted recently. they insist no new viruses have been found. >> new controversy for instagram. some companies are now suspending their ads on the social media platform and it's because of concerns about sexual content. here's abc's derrick dennis us this morning instagram facing new questions about salacious content following a report in the wall street journal the journal says it set up a series of test accounts that followed pre-teen influencer hours and other young

people on the platform to see what would show up in the reels. >> video feed of those test accounts, the results, the journal reports. instagram system served jarring doses of salacious content to those test accounts, including risque footage of children as well as overtly sexual adult videos and ads for some of the biggest us brands. a senate committee examined the issue of sexual content earlier this month. >> why has instagram become in the words of the wall street journal, a vast network, most of the resources close to all that they invest in this go towards this very narrow definition of harm. >> in response, meta instagram's parent company said the wall street journal's test produced a manufactured experience that doesn't represent what billions of users see and the company says instagram either remove or reduces the prominence of 4 million videos suspected of violating its standards each month. but some advertisers, including online dating companies, match and bumble, responded to the journal report
