district neighborhood to try to get control back of mission street. >> a street vendor banned in san francisco's mission district on day two. we are tracking the enforcement and asking does the city really have control all. good evening. i'm ama daetz and i'm dan ashley. >> thanks for joining us. the 90 day ban means street vendors both with and without permits, are not allowed to sell on the sidewalks of mission street. >> but today, one day after it went into effect, permitted vendors say the fencing operations are already back. >> abc seven news reporter lou pena has been monitoring this situation. she's in the newsroom with the very latest. louis >> that's right. we saw multiple changes. sidewalks are now clean. people can now walk without stepping on merchandise. and we also found this. you know, a sign of stolen items in the mission district. it's been 24 hours since the 90 day street ban on san francisco's mission street went into effect. and according to this vendor, what you see will depend on the time of day. >> there was a lot of activity, people selling, buying, and

there was inspectors on the side doing nothing. >> last week, rodrigo lopez was selling on 24th street. now he's documenting what's happening in the area. >> we feel very disappointed, disturbed because we are not selling right here right now on the street. but all the illegal vendors, they are on the street. so we want we demanding more actions from the city. >> at 8:40 a.m, rodrigo says he captured people pulling merchandise out of suitcases and selling them on the sidewalks. when we showed up several hours later, 24th street was clean. no vendors in sight, and public works inspectors began to show up with sfpd. it turns out when rodrigo shot this, it was before inspectors began their patrol on weekdays. >> we're there right now from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m, although we're looking to see if we can extend that a little bit. it's really dependent on resources. and then on weekends, we're out there from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. so outside of those hours, people can go out there and continue vending. so what the city is going to do is really monitor this. is it

working during these hours, the san francisco public works department says inspectors have been attacked by unpermitted vendors. >> so for months they've been patrolling with sfpd officers. >> they're going out and telling them that they're not allowed to do that anymore. they have to pack up and leave. if they don't do that, if there's not compliance with that, we can issue something called a notice of violation. >> an amine owns pueblito marquez on 24th street. he's thankful for the change, even if it's not consistent yet. have you noticed a difference? >> yeah, the difference is better. people they can walk uh- clean several bart plazas are part of the ban. >> in the past these have been fencing operation hotspots on the phone, the bart police commander confirmed they're now adding extra resources to the area. but vendors like rodrigo say it's not fair that unpermitted vendors get to set up shop when inspectors are not around. what's your message to the city? >> so the message to the city is to do their job.

>> and bart police officers and public works employees have the authority to confiscate items if unpermitted street vendors do not move. but off camera, a public works inspector said on primitive vendors leave as soon as they see them coming in the newsroom. lou pena, abc seven news. all right, lewis, thanks very much. >> in the north bay, a suspected gas leak at a sonoma county overnight camp sent two children to the hospital. it happened at the catholic charities cyo camp in occidental where as many as a dozen kids complained of headaches, dizziness and nausea. here's abc seven news reporter leslie brinkly. >> early tuesday morning, the occidental volunteer fire department responded to a 911 call from an adult at the catholic charities cyo camp on bohemian highway. they were reporting a child having a seizure. paramedics arrived at a cabin in this camp and quickly escalated the emergency call. >> we found out that there's the cabin was leaking gas or the gas, the smell of odor, gas odor

in the cabin. now it became a mci, a mass casualty incident because there's 12 minors in the cabin as well. throughout the night. so everybody was lightheaded. headaches and not feeling well. >> more ambulances arrived and the young campers were triaged and given oxygen to determine their degree of illness. eventually, two were taken to the hospital. >> the degree of worry is higher when it's when it's minors. >> officials suspected that leaking propane gas had made the children sick. and an investigator into the cause got underway. the western propane gas association aviation talked to abc7 news and said that a company called mcphail fuel provided the propane equipment to the camp and that the lines and tank had passed a safety inspection in 2022. but the president of the gas association said they don't service appliances connected to the propane and in this case they believe that a faulty space heater may be to blame. catholic charities cyo camp and retreat

issued a statement saying we are in the process of investigating what happened. we are happy to share that everyone is safe in the north bay. i'm leslie brinkly, abc7 news. >> acosta public health says it will be testing air quality in the richmond area after flaring at the chevron refinery. flaring began yesterday afternoon after officials say there was a power outage at the refinery. chevron says the power has been restored and the flaring has stopped, but intermittent flaring is possible. it is still investigating the cause of that power failure. all right. let's get to our weather because that rain is coming. >> yeah, it was dry today, but that's about to change. here's a live look now around the bay area from our various cameras. our weather team is tracking showers that are expected to move in soon this evening. >> let's get right to abc seven news meteorologist andy patel with the first look at the forecast sandhya. yeah >> ama and dan. we have wet roadways ahead over the next few hours. we're going to start to notice those showers picking up. so let's look at live doppler seven right now and this is what's happening. the system is approaching the northern

california coast. so we are starting to see some radar returns off our coastline in just a matter of an hour or two, we'll start to notice some rain moving into the north bay. it's a light level one storm. the low pressure system is still off the coast. it'll drive this front through in the overnight hours and tomorrow morning. so that's when we're expecting most of that rain. 7:00 tonight, the north bay starts to get some showers as we head into 10 p.m. there's spreading. and then we go into the overnight hours and the rainfall intensity will actually pick up during the morning commute. we'll see some pockets of showers at 5 a.m. be prepared for slower commute across parts of the bay area, 8 a.m. you will notice those showers as well. winds are starting to pick up out of the south. you will notice it's a little breezy, but not terribly windy. it's a light level one storm on our exclusive abc7 news storm impact scale between tonight and tomorrow morning. light to moderate showers. slick roadways, breezy conditions and a very slight possibility of thunder. i'll let you know how long you'll need to hang on to

>> so go bees. >> yeah absolutely. all right. well, go get your umbrella because the rain is coming. it is tonight. >> meteorologist sandhya patel is back with the forecast. sandy >> yeah, and we're welcoming it with open arms, that's for sure. dan and ama, good evening and good evening to all of you. let's take a look at live doppler seven and we're going to talk about out weather area of low pressure off the california coast is moving in our direction, but it's going to stay north of us. what's going to come through is the wet weather that you're looking at. so some showers around the mendocino coast. we're waiting for our share of some of this coming into the region. just off the coastline. we are seeing some radar returns and that will be here in the next couple of hours. air quality has been moderate across parts of the bay area, particularly the peninsula and the east bay. and with that rain coming in, that will help to kind of scour and move some of this air quality, make it better, i should say. here's a live view from our emeryville camera. moderate air quality is expected for wednesday and thursday, but it's always nice

to get a front coming through because it does bring in fresher air, even if it's temporary. from our sutro tower camera, look at this sparkling view. it's certainly breezy out there as we look at san francisco, our chilly spots right now, fairfield and novato in the 40s. we do have low to mid 50s elsewhere. here's a live view from our san jose camera and those temperatures 59 and san francisco got up to 61. right now in san jose but it did manage to get up to 70 degrees. the rest of you in the 60 soquel's oakland 55 along with half moon bay. this is a cool shot from our pier 39 camera as we look at the ferris wheel here in san francisco. showers arrive late tonight. wet for the morning commute. unsettled pattern continues into the weekend on our storm impact scale. this is a light level one system tonight through tomorrow morning. expecting light to moderate showers, slick roadways, breezy conditions. and there's a slight chance of isolated thunder. so we go hour by hour, 7:00 tonight, the rain is moving into the north bay. you will notice by 1030, it's starting to spread across other parts of the bay area going into

the morning commute. there will be some slippery roadways that may slow you down, especially with some moderate pockets of showers. so plan accordingly and maybe want to do some holiday shopping tomorrow morning or you're going to get a tree. these are things to consider, obviously, when you need to hit the road as we head into 8 a.m, still some showers in the southern part of our viewing area 10 a.m. is the last batch of it. and then we're seeing just clouds lingering with some sun breaking through later in the day. rainfall estimates with this system, they're actually lower than they were yesterday at this time. so we're looking at about a few hundredths of an inch inland along the coastline, 1300s in half moon bay, there will be some pockets like the santa cruz mountains that picks up about a quarter of an inch, some of the hills will pick up a quarter to a half an inch in our wetter locations. your morning temperatures this is what's going to be nice. it's not going to be quite as cold as it has been this morning. we had some near freezing and below freezing conditions in our inland valleys. tomorrow morning, most of you will be in the 40 soquel's. but don't forget your umbrellas. 39 at lakeport

billion dollar acquisition is nothing short of a hostile takeover. criticizing the plan for a new city conflicts with county policy that restricts development on agricultural land. losing prime ag land means we're losing our ability to feed ourselves. princess washington is the chair of the solano sierra club and mayor pro tem of suisun city. she says over the past 30 years, the bay area has lost more than 217,000 acres of ag land to new development. >> this land we cannot get back. >> washington and fairfield mayor catherine moy both called out concerns surrounding travis air force base. >> the threat to travis air force base, that's a big fat no. >> city officials say they've asked california forever. why not make the land immediately surrounding travis air force base available to be relinquished? what's your response to that? >> i mean, i think that they should wait for the overall plans before anyone is kind of making making up an opinion about the project, which is what most of the electeds in the area

are doing. and we're very confident that the uses that we're going to propose in the new year, such as using it for solar farms, are going to be entirely compatible and in fact support the operations of travis air. >> washington says california forever recently learned that certain parcels north east of travis air force base were identified as targets for the department of defense to acquire for their environmental protection program. >> by the time the parcels were identified, their company had already acquired them. >> did the department of defense request for those specific parcels back? >> no, absolutely not. and we acquired them from third party landowners, so we didn't even learn about the fact that this was a priority for them from them, we learned about it from just independently talking to people in the community. and those are the very parcels that we proposed to swap to the water agency, schrameck says he would exchange around 1400 acres of pasture land for 1300 acres of their land. >> that he says has the highest habitat values. but mayor moy says there's more to the story. >> right now in this land swap

they're trying to pass off a piece of land to the solano county water agency that's now under investigation by state and by other environmental groups. and that could come with fines, up to $20 million. what's your response to that? >> that's categorically false. and i would ask her to present the evidence of that because that is absolutely not true. now the solano county water agency will decide whether to negotiate with california forever to supply water in mid-december. >> now, if they don't, schrameck says he's still confident he'll have enough water to support a city of tens of thousands of people. and those plans continue developing. ing starting this thursday, he says two new offices will open in vallejo and vacaville. so residents can come in and ask questions. and you can imagine there will be a lot of those. >> yeah, i'm sure. certainly. all right. and you'll be staying on top of this. thanks, steph. >> now to get in touch with stephanie and the i-team, you

can call this number on your screen or go to abc7 news.com slash i-team. >> oakland police are releasing a little information about a person found shot to death this morning on macarthur boulevard. officers located the victim outside the alta vista apartments in east oakland around 1115. they tried life saving measures but were unsuccessful. this was oakland's 115th homicide of the year. that is five shy of the city's total for all of last year. san francisco is one step closer to getting automatic license plate reading cameras. a board of supervisors committee recommended approve moving a proposal that would speed up installation of the readers if approved, cameras would be installed at 100 intersection lines across the city. the san francisco police department hopes they will deter property crime and help track down people who commit crimes. the proposal now goes to the full board. >> abc7 news is committed to finding solutions to help build a better bay area. and next week abc hosts take action. san francisco. one hour of direct

and healthier lives and today, a major milestone has been reached. abc7 news reporter zach fuentes has a look at the new drug for dogs. >> meet zeus. a shy but playful half pit half lab, pure mabbayad said he's a loving part of his family and wants to be around for a long time. >> only 11 months. i want him to live longer. >> san francisco based loyal is working to extend the lives of dogs. ceo selene halawa says some of the largest breeds aren't living as long due to years of selective breeding. >> and that was super effective at creating this huge variety within the species of what a dog can look like and behave like. but it also caused genetic mistakes, she says. >> those mistakes see large and giant breed dogs aging up to two times faster than smaller ones, ultimately leading to a shorter lifespan. loyal's drug known right now as loi one aims to change that, but the drug is doing is once the dog is fully grown, it's compensating for this genetic mistake and to kind of make them more similar to like a medium sized dog

biologically to slow the rate of aging to extend their healthy lifespan. loi one would be in the form of a routine injection. work is still being done to determine just how much longer it could extend a dog's life. but tuesday, the company announced that the fda gave it a technical section complete. that means that the fda agrees with the data loyal provided that shows the drug's effectiveness a major step forward, but not past the finish line. just yet. >> we can't sell the drug yet. you can't go ask your vet about it yet. i'm sorry. we still have to finish manufacturing and safety. but, you know, does it work? is you know, kind of historically the most challenging and most complex aspect of getting a drug approved. >> loyal is also working on similar drugs that would serve older dogs of nearly every size and breed the possibility of the drug is one that has some dog owners excited. >> if it could extend their life, that would be great. >> others like this german shepherd owner say it wouldn't be for them using a drug. >> absolutely not. i'm against drugs. >> alejo's says she's heard criticisms, but the larger feedback has been positive. the
