>> and let's get a live look outside this morning. it's a slick start to your day. drew is here with when the rain is going to move out. and jobina is tracking how the roads are impacted today. >> good morning to you. it is wednesday, november 29th. >> yeah, let's get a check of that forecast because we've been talking about that rain. is it sticking around all day? yes. so it'll stick around at least for the next 3 to 4 hours. >> it's just hitting during the morning commute. so it certainly is creating slower travel out there this morning. here's live. doppler seven. you are noticing some pops of brighter colors mixed in with the light rain. those are the scattered downpours we're tracking on the abc seven storm impact scale. we are at a level one this morning for those scattered showers and isolated downpours. your biggest impact, certainly the travel. we have slick roads out there. we have low visibility. you want to add a little bit of extra time to the commute. you can clearly see it is wet out there from our san jose camera 101 and 880. that's what you're looking at. we'll keep the showers in the forecast through 9 a.m. after 10 a.m, we're pretty much done with the wet weather. it turns drier

and brighter into the afternoon. and those temperatures going into the low and mid 60s for daytime highs. let's see how we're doing on those roads with this wet weather this morning. good morning, jobina. >> good morning to you. thank you. hi, everybody. so, yes, due to the slick conditions out there, we are seeing a number of crashes out there and specifically spin outs. that's what happens when this pavement is wet. westbound 80. the connection to southbound 680 and fairfield. we have a crash there , speeds down to 12mph. and that spot all lanes blocked in sonoma on northbound and southbound 121 at mango ranch road. and then we have a new crash reported in oakland. this is going to be southbound 880 past 980. we'll bring you the bay bridge toll plaza. we're metering lights came on at 534 and you should expect some delays here as well. thanks for being. >> a new development to six day cease fire between israel and hamas is set to expire today. this morning, cia director bill burns is in the middle east in hopes of negotiating another extension to that cease fire and the release of more hostages. israel says there are now 161

people being held hostage in gaza after hamas released 12 more people yesterday. that includes 17 year old mia lindberg and her dog. they survived over 50 days of captivity so far. hamas released one american hostage and nine others are still being held captive. >> there's no indication that hamas is trying to play some sort of game here in terms of the americans. we can't just assume that hamas has ready access to everybody in a moment's notice. >> more, more aid has flowed into gaza. officials say 54,000 pounds of aid from the us arrived this week with more to follow. >> in the east bay, a chaotic scene at last night's berkeley city council meeting protesters into erupted the proceedings demanding that the council pass a resolution calling for a permanent cease fire in gaza. council members left the chamber and went to a separate room away from the public. berkeley's mayor released a statement opposing a resolution saying it

will not end the violence in the middle east and will only increase hatred at home. >> a new lawsuit accuses uc berkeley's law school of allowing the spread of anti-semitism on campus. according to the chronicle, the lawsuit was brought by a zionist group that cited a 2022 policy by the campus group law students for justice in palestine, saying that it wouldn't invite pro-zionist speakers, zionists believed jewish people have an ancestral right to land in israel. the lawsuit asks a judge to prohibit the university from recognizing any organization that excludes jewish people. the student group says it doesn't exclude jewish people or zionists, only pro-zionist speakers. a uc berkeley spokesperson tells the chronicle the university is committed to confronting anti-semitism and supporting jewish students, faculty and staff. next week, presidents from some of the most elite colleges in the country will testify before congress about anti-semitism on campus. that includes the presidents

from harvard, mit and the university of pennsylvania. tensions have surged at some schools after last month's attack on israel by hamas. some lawmakers want to hold school officials accountable. many university leaders are struggling to balance this, protecting students and allowing expression of all opinions is in san francisco. >> street vendors, both with and without permits, are not allowed to sell on the sidewalks of mission street for the next 88 days. but some vendors say that is not stopping the sale of stolen goods on the streets. abc7 news reporter lena howland is live at city hall right now with reaction from frustrated vendors. lena good morning toyo. >> while some of the sidewalks have been cleared out, many street vendors tell us the illegal fencing operations that the city was trying to put a stop to are still happening. one vendor who was selling on 24th street up until last week is now documenting what's happening on the area where he used to set up

shop at 840 yesterday morning. he captured images of people pulling merchandise out of suitcases and selling them on the sidewalks. when we showed up several hours later, 24th street was clean. no vendors in sight. and public works inspector began to show up with sfpd. turns out when these videos were shot, it was before inspectors began their patrol. >> we feel very disappointed. distributors. we are not selling right here, right now on the street. but all the vendors, they are on the street. so we want we demanding more actions from the city. >> a spokesperson for san francisco public works said they will be asking vendors to pack up and leave between the hours of nine in the morning to eight at night and 8 to 4 on weekends. if they don't leave, they'll be cited with a notice of violation, which carries fines of 100 to $1000, depending on how many times people have been warned. but off camera, a public works inspector told us that

unpermitted vendors leave as soon as they see them coming. live in san francisco, lena howland, abc seven news. >> lena, thank you so much. happening tomorrow, the governor's of california and florida will go head to head in a highly anticipated debate. governor gavin newsom and ron desantis will meet for a 90 minute battle in georgia. newsom is expected to hit desantis with issues like abortion and lgbtq rights while touting california's tech based economy. desantis is expected to attack newsom. with california's declining population and the drug and homelessness crisis. >> they're able to use their opponent as a foil, right? newsom can use desantis to play to his base and talk about how progressive he is and how well california is doing against florida. and then desantis is going to do the same thing with newsom. >> desantis supporters hope the debate will help boost momentum for his presidential campaign.

>> your voice, your vote and a major endorsement for republican presidential candidate nikki haley jobina is tracking that from the live desk. >> thank you, reggie. former south carolina governor nikki haley was just endorsed by the americans for prosperity, or afp. afp action is the political advocacy group backed by billionaire charles koch. filings showed the group has already raised more than $70 million, 25 million coming from koch himself and another 25 million from one of his nonprofit groups. afp action believes haley can win key, independent and moderate voters, something many analysts say frontrunner donald trump has no chance of winning. >> we are now in second place in iowa, the second place in new hampshire and second place in south carolina. one more fellow we got to catch up to. >> abc news partner 538 shows trump is leading the republican

primary by more than 40. those numbers come after skipping debates and, of course, facing multiple criminal cases. ap action says it's never engaged in a presidential election before, but it wants to quote, turn the page on the past to make sure president biden and former president trump don't return to the white house. >> thank you, jobina. when it comes to the 2024 election, meta is unveiling a new list of policies that is supposed to combat deceitful social media advertising. they include not showing any new ads in the final week before the election, disclosing content made by to weed out deep fakes, labeling people appearing in the ads as either, quote, real or, quote, fictional, and prohibiting ads that discourage people from voting. however meta did not say how all of this is going to be enforced. the famous stud bar nearing its highly anticipated reopening the approval it just got from the city of san

morning. the financial district that stretching up into parts of marin county, tiburon mill valley this morning, seeing those scattered downpours, lighter showers along the peninsula. but it is still wet out there from san mateo to redwood city and palo alto are the heaviest showers have moved out of san jose into alum rock in the east foothills this morning. and as we take a look at the east bay, we're finding some showers late in nature. here's highway four for reference. so it's a little bit slower this morning thanks to that wet weather and just some scattered light showers in the north bay right now. future weather showing you post 10 a.m. we're done with this wet weather. so last through the next four hours, the afternoon, reggie, some peeks of sunshine and dry pavement for the evening commute. >> drew, thank you. the oakland a's, who are they now? it's all about the bees, the new sports team swinging into oakland starting in the summer and opening night. the drive thru light show in the south bay to kick off the holidays as we had to break a live look outside. it is now 613. and we'll be ri and i love overcoming challenges.

step closer to reopening, according to shefs. the board of supervisors has endorsed granting a liquor license to the stud. the bar announced it signed a lease for a new location on folsom street in soma in september. the new location will be twice the size of the old venue, which was located at ninth and harrison. the original location shut down in 2016 because of a rent increase. the oakland ballers, that's the new name of the minor league baseball team, set to start playing in oakland this spring. oakland natives paul friedman and brian karmel held a news conference yesterday to announce the team. the idea for this team started in june. they wanted baseball fans to still be able to root for a team in oakland. the oakland ballers

will be playing in the pioneer league. >> we identified the league that we wanted to join. being the pioneer league, which has its roots in 1939. and then we worked to build a community to support us because we really believe at the end of the day that sports teams are about community. they're about bringing community together. >> the oakland bees see what they did there will likely play at laney college. >> i love that name. well, the bay area's tallest tree will light up tonight in san francisco chase center is hosting a tree lighting ceremony at its thrive city outdoor plaza tonight at five. the lights on the 90 foot tree will turn on the celebration will also include the warriors dance team choirs, food and drinks to get everyone in the holiday spirit. and another celebration is going to be held on the first night of hanukkah. that is next thursday. >> christmas in the parks drive thru light show returns to san jose tonight from your car. you can see this is a holiday light show that has music accompanying it. organizers say these tickets help fund the free walk in

christmas in the park event in downtown every year. tickets are 30 bucks for every car and the drive through light show is available until january 1st. >> what a cool idea. and it's beginning to look a lot like christmas outside san francisco city hall. check out that huge christmas tree. it's now up at civic center plaza. the city will hold its official tree lighting in just one week. and the festivities will include live entertainment, snow flurries, food and drinks and free holiday crafts for the first 400 kids under the age of 12 who show up. the san francisco police foundation will give away a free toy toy. the celebration starts at 4 p.m. on december 6th. >> some people are calling and avant garde a pair of boots fashion, while others say that it's just it's just weird. louis vuitton debuted its illusion boots dyed to mimic a woman's leg wearing white ankle socks and a black stiletto. >> what i'm trying to figure out what i'm looking at here.

morning compared to yesterday. remember yesterday we had frost advisories or freeze warnings in some areas. we are 20 degrees warmer right now compared to this time yesterday. thanks to the cloud cover up above. we're in the upper 40s to the low and mid 50s to start out that morning. here's a live look from our rooftop camera. it is damp out there. take the umbrella with you. you'll need it through about 10 a.m. this morning after 10 a.m, the showers are done. they're out of here. that low pressure is moving down to the south. and what that means, a brighter afternoon. temperatures, though, below average only in the low and mid 60s for daytime highs. so today we have those morning showers right now lasting until 10 a.m. after 10 a.m. we'll see brighter conditions, drier conditions, the evening commute will be a lot easier to tolerate. we'll have dry pavement and better visibility out there overnight. tonight, we'll find a mixture of stars and clouds. we'll watch. there could be some areas of fog developing in the valleys of the north bay. we'll keep our eyes on that. heading into tomorrow, the rainfall potential, the next ten days, it really looks like

the storm track is going to stay well north of us. you can see seattle, portland picking up several inches of rain for us. the next best rain chance is probably on saturday and it looks pretty light. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. a wet morning leading to a dry afternoon. a slight chance in the north bay tomorrow evening, but most are dry through friday. saturday trending a bit wetter but we're drier on sunday with those temperatures below average over the weekend. jobina. >> thank you, drew. good morning, everybody. so we are going to start with the look at the 4.2 mile long backup. as you approach the richmond-san rafael bridge on the westbound direction. those rain droplets on the camera, the weather is not helping with the commute. it's just very slow. and a lot of spots, including the san mateo bridge, you can see off to the right hand side, all of that brake tapping because of people traveling towards the peninsula. also, we're now getting an update from bart. they are now running trains at slower speeds due to the rain. so you can expect about a ten minute delay throughout out the system right now. are drive times, especially for the highway four commute. antioch to concord is 39

san francisco, 49 ers spent the day helping the next generation find their future passion. owens, 30, bay area high school students got to learn about different careers inside shoe palace headquarters yesterday in morgan hill. armstid hosted his stay hungry career camp students toured shoe palaces warehouse the design department and the mock store with the goal to explore career pathways. >> at first, i didn't really want to go. i didn't. i didn't think it was pretty cool. but like, once i saw everything, i was like, that's really nice. something i would want to do. yeah, it was cool. >> i've never experienced anything like this before. that was awesome. >> armstead and the shoe palace

of mission street for the next 88 days. some vendors say that isn't stopping the sale of stolen goods on the street. abc seven news reporter lena howland live at city hall this morning with the response from the city's public works department. lena reggie, the city's public works department says they are focused on monitoring and enforcing this ban, but only during their specific working hours, which is not 24 hours a day. >> at around 840 yesterday morning, one vendor who was selling on 24th street up until last week captured these images of people pulling merchandise out of suitcases and selling them on the sidewalks. when we showed up several hours later, 24th street was clean, no vendors in sight and public works inspectors began to show up with sfpd. turns out when these videos were shot, it was before inspectors began their patrol for the day. >> weekdays. we're there right now from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m, although we're looking to see if we can extend that a little bit. it's really dependent on

resources. and then on weekends, we're out there from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. so outside of those hours, people can go out there and continue vending. so what the city's going to do is really monitor this. is it working during these hours, several bart plazas are also a part of the ban. >> in the past, they have been fencing operation hotspots. on the phone with the bart police commander. they confirmed they are now adding extra resources to the area. but many street vendors trying to do this the right way say it's not fair that unpermitted vendors get to set up shop when inspectors are not around. and now street vendors who do not leave the area could be facing fines between $100 to $1000, depending on how many times they've been warned. live in san francisco, lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you, lena. the san francisco board of supervisors voted to pass a measure that will allow voters to weigh in on the city's police staffing. according to the chronicle, after weeks of very heated

disagreement, it's the board voted 6 to 5 in favor of this legislation. so voters will be able to determine the minimum level of police staffing. it comes as sfpd struggles to fill vacant positions. the measure will be on the ballot march, i should say. it will be on the march ballot for the 2024 presidential primary election. >> new at six, the san francisco supervisor is trying to expand the homeward bound program. the program reconnects unhoused people with their loved ones and hometown ins and then covers the travel expenses. right now, the program is offered to only current or former unhoused people or those who receive welfare. according to the chronicle, one supervisor is proposing to make it a permanent program to also cover people in city shelters and permanent supportive housing. >> san francisco is facing a drug crisis that has people dying on our streets. at abc7 news, we cover the topic often because we're committed to finding solutions to help build a better bay area. all this week

hours. it will take the showers with it. so we do expect the showers to end right around 10 a.m. it is creating a warmer morning compared to yesterday. yesterday with those frost advisories freeze warnings and some spots were 20 degrees warmer than we were. this time yesterday. upper 40s to the mid 50s. you're starting temperatures out the door. certainly a gray, moody sky to begin our wednesday with those showers moving through on our east bay hills camera keep showers in the forecast through 10 a.m. after 10 a.m. they're out of here the afternoon. we're finding brighter conditions, certainly drier conditions for the evening commute and temperatures in the 60s. so the morning rush use caution as the showers are moving through. we have slick roads out there, low visibility. jobina has been tracking all those spin outs. the evening rush is a lot better. the showers are out of here and we have dry pavement. additional rainfall you can see will pick up a few hundredths of an inch of rain over the next 3 to 4 hours as the showers move through. so today, temperatures in the 60s morning showers to afternoon sunshine and those temperatures are a bit below average for this time of the

year. accuweather seven day forecast showing you our next best chance of showers coming on saturday with a drier back half of the weekend on sunday. jobina >> thank you, drew. good morning, everybody. let's get right to those crashes. we're following. the biggest backup going to be in fairfield on westbound 80. the connection to southbound 680. the speeds down to 15mph. we have at least one lane blocked there. still as you approach the san mateo bridge in the westbound direction, we have a crash in hayward on westbound 92 before hesperian boulevard. you can see those speeds 12mph. the good news, though, is that once you hop on the bridge, it's not too bad. but you can see as people start to approach the center span, they're tapping those brake lights. that's been a problem spot this morning as is the bay bridge, because we've had a number of minor spin outs here that have cleared quickly, but slowing things down, metering, lights came on at 534. >> reggie, thanks jobina there's new speculation over what might be next for billionaire mark cuban. yesterday, he announced his departure from the hit abc show shark tank at the end of
