overnight. the cease fire between israel and hamas has been extended another day after 16 more hostages were released including one american citizen. shortly after the truce was extended, deadly shooting in jerusalem. hamas has claimed responsibility. matt gutman is on the scene. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, george. it was just a few minutes ago that hamas claimed responsibility for the shooting attack at this bus stop that left three people dead. one of the busiest in israel. that shooting came just 40 minutes after israel and hamas agreed to extend this truce for another 24 hours. this morning that cease fire between israel and hamas extended for a seventh day. and just minutes later this shooting attack in jerusalem and this surveillance video, you can see a car pull up at a bus stop. two people that were affiliated with hamas begin firing. in another video circulating online, you can hear the dozens of rounds fired. people at the bus stop fleeing for safety. within seconds off duty soldiers returning fire, killing the assailant.

three israelis were killed, 16 wounded. it comes amid the blitz of u.s. diplomacy. secretary of state antony blinken touching down in israel overnight meeting with israeli leaders this morning and the palestinian president abbas later. it's part of the u.s. effort to extend the cease fire to ensure the release of additional hostages, including americans. a second american freed over night, 49-year-old liat banon photographed in her first conversation with family. she was among 16 reunited with families overnight. we spoke to her sister just after her release. did you guys let out a cheer? >> yeah. we've been holding it in for so long. everybody was able to let go just a little bit. the kids especially. they're really tired. we're just very happy. >> reporter: liat was kidnapped 55 days ago with her husband, who is still believed to be held in gaza. only 2 of the 102 hostages were

american, including 4-year-old abigail, released over the weekend. eight americans are still believed to be held captive in gaza, but u.s. officials say it is not known where they are, who is holding them or if they're all alive. >> there's one goal. bring hirsch home. >> reporter: hirsch goldberg is one of them. the 23-year-old taken hostage during that music festival october 7th, a grenade taking off part of his arm. this is one of the last known images of him, huddling in a bunker. >> our soul is so bruised. >> reporter: each morning his mother taping to her shirt the number of days since he was taken. now bracing for drawn out to f nee hirsch and the rest of the hostages. are you prepared for that number to be in four digits? >> are we going to pay a steep price? if the answer is yes, pay it now. the price will be the same, but you will have killed us, the family, in the mean time.

we will be alive, but we will be dead. >> reporter: a grim reality settling in for the family the youngest hostages. 10-year-old qafir. he and his 4-year-old brother and mother seen fear being taken by hamas on october 7th. hamas claiming all three were killed by israeli air strikes at some point during the war. israel now saying it's assessing those claims. it's possible that the u.s. diplomacy in the region will extend the existing cease fire, but as we understand it, the pool of available hostages that hamas considers eligible is getting significantly smaller and the talks over releasing mostly younger men and women could take significantly longer. israel said it's not going to wait for those negotiations to play out to resume the war. robin? >> all right. matt, thank you. now to the west bank, where two young boys were killed in an idf raid. our foreign correspondent tom soufi-burridge is on the scene for us. good morning, tom. >> reporter: good morning, robin.

we heard from matt, huge concerns this morning in israel and over the barrier in the west bank erupts in violence, too. this morning with tensions rising in the west bank a demand for answers after two young palestinian boys were killed by israeli soldiers. disturbing security video showing the confrontation. during what the idf calls a counter terror raid. 8-year-old adam and 15-year-old basil killed. few seconds of video we have before the shooting, the boys are not seen throwing anything. the older boy is seen holding a small object in his hand. israel saying the soldiers only fired on people who threw explosives at them. the families mourning, while others here in the west bank celebrate. israel releasing 30 more palestinian prisoners. in total, 210 palestinians now freed in the past six days as part of the cease fire deal. among them 21-year-old dania.

her family hugging her tight. dania accused by israel of allegedly supporting terror. her father telling me he believes it was due to social media posts. saying, i'm proud of my daughter for supporting people in gaza. meanwhile, the u.n. estimating more than 1.8 million gazans have been displaced, 80% of gaza's population no longer living in their homes. since the truce, 254 aid trucks moving in with food, water, baby formula an blankets. the u.n. saying it's still not enough. the u.n. with a stark warning that the humanitarian situation in gaza is now so dire that disease could kill more people there than the bombings. george? >> tom, thank you. we're going to turn to the passing of henry kissinger who died yesterday at 100. the former national security adviser and secretary of state shaped foreign policy in a critical period in the '60s and '70s. hugely influential and divisive figure on the world stage for more than six decades.

for more than 60 years dr. henry kissinger was one of the most influential and controversial figures in american foreign affairs. a jewish refugee who fled at 15 with his family, kissinger became a u.s. citizen in 1943, awarded the nobel peace prize and presidential medal of freedom. he served as part time foreign policy adviser to presidents kennedy and johnson as well. in 1969, kissinger was a political scientist at harvard university when president richard nixon named him national security adviser. >> i shall nominate and send to the senate for confirmation the name of dr. henry kissinger. >> reporter: four years later, he became secretary of state. >> there is no country in the world where it is conceivable that a man of my origins could be standing here next to the president of the united states. >> reporter: kissinger helped re-establish relations between the u.s. and china, worked to relieve tensions between the u.s. and soviet union, which

resulted in a nuclear weapons treaty. >> significance towards the prevention of nuclear war. >> reporter: back in the u.s. with the vietnam war becoming increasingly unpopular, kissinger played a role in the nixon administration policy that escalated then ended the war. >> we're here because we need this to stop between your government's policies and southeast asia. >> reporter: tensions rose when kissinger helped organize the bombing campaign in cambodia which killed tens of thousands. the watergate scandal led nixon to resign but kissinger stayed under president ford. he left office in 1977, continued informally advising presidents of both parties. kissinger was a diplomat until the very end, traveling to china over the summer, meeting with president xi in september, sitting down with ukraine's president zelenskyy during his trip to the u.s. his presence on the world stage felt long after he officially

left. last year i sat down with him as he reflected on his life of service. any key decisions you would take back today? >> that's a question i'm often asked. i have developed no great answer for it because i have been thinking about these problems all my life. it's my hobby. well, it's my occupation. the recommendations i made were the best of which i was then capable of. >> reporter: dr. henry kissinger was 100 years old. here with our chief global affairs anchor, martha raddatz. it is hard to overstate the impact he had on american foreign policy over decades. >> just an extraordinary impact. as he said and you said, he was doing that until the end. that was his life. that was his passion. that's all he wanted to do is

diplomacy. that speech in august in china, a speech a month ago, that interview with you at age 100. but there is one quote that really resonates with me that he says. foreign policy should reflect continuing values of the american people. that was not always the case with him. that has not always been the case since. and that is always the challenge with diplomacy. it's always the challenge with foreign policy with where the world is today and our relationship with china that's opening up a bit more, our relationship with russia. always a challenge. always something to do. but henry kissinger is the man so many look towards. >> courted controversial. did not shy away from it. >> did not shy away from it. wasn't shying away from it in that interview. he embraced what happened. when you think about the values of the american people and you mentioned cambodia. 40,000 people. that was carpet bombing. were those the values of the american people? but he stood by what he did. he reflected. he learned from them.

he taught people about that. but remains very controversial today. >> martha raddatz, thanks. robin? >> so good to have you in the studio with us, martha. appreciate you. we're going to turn to the tornado threat. a new storm making its way through the country, bringing possible twisters to texas and louisiana this morning. ginger joins us now with more on where and when the danger might be. good morning, ginger. >> good morning, robin. november is going out with a bang. severe weather wise, in southeast texas to southwestern louisiana we have a tornado threat. after the noon hour, we have two ways to get warning. lake charles, louisiana. you can see thunderstorms from southern oklahoma to near alexandria, louisiana. that will kick off storms from alabama, georgia, even mississippi. south carolina getting drenching rains. south of des moines into western illinois.

then rain on top of that lake effect snow. remember, we just got more than 42 inches in some places in western new york. now you're going to bring the warm front close enough that you're going to get rain on top of the feet of snow that just fell. big changes to come for sure. linsey? >> ginger, thank you. now to american officials who said they foiled a plot to assassinate a member of the indian government. aaron katersky has more. >> reporter: the fbi said murder for hire may be a crime out of a movie but the plot in this case was all too real. the u.s. said it foiled an international assassination for hire scheme that stretched from new dehli to new york city. it targeted a seik separatist and critic of the indian government. court records said an unnamed senior field officer in the indian government directed the assassination plot from india. he contacted nick gupta who is charged with arranged to pay a

hitman $100,000 for the assassination. the hit man turned out to be an under cover law enforcement officer. the dea uncovered this alleged plot around the same time another separatist was assassinated in canada. the u.s. took this plot so seriously, president biden raised it with the indian prime minister back in september. george? >> aaron, thank you very much. latest now on donald trump's secret documents case. abc news learned a trump lawyer provided grand jury testimony damaging to the former president. pierre thomas has the story. good morning, pierre. >> reporter: george, good morning. we're getting more insight into the case of special counsel jack smith has been trying to build to prove that donald trump intentionally broke the law when dealing with those classified documents. sources familiar with the case tell abc news that one of trump's current attorneys has provided potentially damaging testimony to special counsel jack smith in connection with his case alleging donald trump mishandled those classified documents taken to mar-a-lago after he left office.

those sources telling abc news that trump attorney jennifer little has told investigators that she warned trump that if he did not comply with a federal subpoena, quote, it's going to be a crime. when pressed by investigators, little allegedly said trump absolutely understood her warning and he said something to the effect of, i get it. the alleged conversation took place in a critical meeting at mar-a-lago with the lawyer who would lead the efforts to respond to the subpoena evan corcoran. that same day, corcoran recalled discussing with trump the importance of complying with the federal subpoena. the indictment alleging that corcoran remembers trump asking, wouldn't it be better if we just told them we don't have anything here? jack smith's office was able to interview trump's lawyers after federal judge found the attorney/client privilege could be pierced because there was evidence suggesting trump had tried to use his attorneys to commit a crime. little allegedly told

caught on camera, a delivery driver in kansas approaches the door with a package, sets it down and takes a picture of it. but then looks around and grabs the package again, taking off with it. police saying suspected crimes like this one are on the rise nationwide. >> my initial reaction was shock. you hear about things like this happening. they're always random people in the neighborhood that come and get them. i have never heard of a delivery person doing it. >> reporter: and in alabama, police investigating this video. a woman caught on security camera allegedly stealing packages walking calmly back to her car with several in her arms before driving away. police departments across the country are now stepping up, opening their doors to keep your deliveries safe. >> there's well over 100 million packages stolen off front porches every year. sheriff and i were talking. we just thought this was the right thing to do. >> reporter: randall county sheriff's office in amarillo texas started inviting residents to deliver packages straight to their departments. the first packages this season already starting to arrive.

schools to be vigilant and ensure proper security measures are in place. robin? >> gotta stay alert. all right, aaron. thank you. now to a blockbuster deal in the works in the health insurance industry. the wall street journal reports cigna and humana are in talks about creating one of the biggest integrated health care firms. elizabeth schulze joins us with more on that. >> reporter: good morning, robin. this would be a megamerger, combining two of the nation's biggest health insurers cigna an humana are reportedly in talks to merge in a deal that could be finalized by the end of the year. these are two major companies that provide insurance to millions of americans combined cigna and humana are worth about $140 billion. a merger could better position them to compete with even bigger rivals like united healthcare and cvs. but regulators are going to be closely watching this deal if it is finalized to see if it could raise insurance costs or premiums for consumers.

a previous attempt by humana to merge with a competitor was blocked by a judge who said that it would make medicare more expensive for seniors. so far humana and cigna have not responded to our request for comment on this latest deal. linsey? >> all right, elizabeth. thank you. now to breaking down the impact of exercise on post partum depression. about one in eight women actually experience symptoms of post partum depression. nearly 60% never receive a diagnosis. our chief medical correspondent dr. jen ashton joins us now with more. give us a sense of this study. >> linsey, we've known that exercise is good during pregnancy. it's good for the body. it's also good for the mind an mood. this is the first time it was a meta analysis, looked at 26 other studies to really dive into how much, how often, what kind and what was the effect. take a look at their findings. the news was pretty impressive. they found moderate intensity exercise, which means you have to break a little bit of a

sweat, three to four times a week for 35 to 45 minutes a week. that could be group or solo activity. very effective in preventing as well as managing to treat post partum depression. >> lot of new moms might be saying, how do i find time in order to start exercising? >> as the saying goes, you don't find the time, you make the time. it's really important to understand that as many as 10% or more of post partum mood disorders start during pregnancy. think of it as like taking your vitamin, brushing your teeth. work it into your day. remember, it doesn't have to be all at once. obstetricians and midwaoeufrbs have to take the lead on encouraging this. >> could be pushing the stroller. what are some other treatments for post partum? >> we have to understand this is potentially a life threatening situation. there's a slew of treatment and management options. they include first speaking to your obstetrician or mid wife. psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and

white johnson has the story. good morning, whit. >> reporter: hey, george, good morning to you. the mom you're about to meet blames video game addiction for her son's severe emotional distress, anger and depression after years of feeling helpless and trying just about everything to intervene, she's now taking on some of the world's top video game makers, demanding accountability and change. this morning a major lawsuit taking on the video game industry. an arkansas mother and son accusing manufactures of intentionally designing games to be as addictive as possible. >> i have spent a lot of times crying thinking i was a bad parent because of it. if any other parent is dealing with this, they're not alone. >> reporter: preston johnson and his mother elizabeth jones claiming in the lawsuit that the games he plays, including fortnight, roblox and mine craft are specifically designed to cause addiction experienced by him and other users. >> that's their goal, to make the video game industry

defendants accountable for what they've done to the youth in our country. >> reporter: johnson's mom said he started gaming at age 12 and by 16 had dropped out of school due to his desire to stay home and play video games. the lawsuit claiming as a result of gaming addiction, he's experienced severe emotional distress, loss of friends, inability to limit game playing time, depression, withdrawal symptoms such as rage and anger. >> at one point i took away the modem altogether and he went downstairs and screamed so loud the neighbors called child protective services the neighbors called the police because they thought i was abusing him. >> reporter: internet game disorder is listed as a condition by the american psychiatric association. the diagnosis would depend on the level of distress it causes. >> someone could be playing video games a lot but might not impair their functioning or cause an impact on their relationship. where as someone else might be playing video games a lot and it could cause financial ruin or hurt their relationships.

>> reporter: while many experts agree it needs more study, some psychologists say issues with internet gaming may not be a unique disorder, but a symptom of something else. like depression or autism. the entertainment software association speaking for the gaming community telling abc news the industry invests in creating easy to use tools for players, parents and care givers to manage numerous aspects of game play. claims that say otherwise are not rooted in fact and ignore the reality that billions of people enjoy playing video games as part of a healthy balanced lifestyle. preston's mom says his life has been forever altered. >> when he started playing these games, i had no idea that these multimillion dollar gaming platforms and games were going to create an addict out of my son. i never knew it would destroy our family. preston has not completed high school. he's not able to work a 40 hour workweek.

here we've got invasive grasses right next to native shrubs like white sage. those usually hold on to more moisture. finally only native shrubs. what we're going to do is see the difference between the ignition and spread of all of these so you can make different changes in your landscaping at home. check it out. this morning, scientists at the university of california irvine are studying why wild fires have become so intense over the last decade. >> climate change is part of it. another part of it is land management. >> reporter: they focus on the wildlands urban interface, where we have built into naturetheir research found the majority of damage comes from small embers that can travel miles ahead of the main fire. now they're studying the behavior of embers to understand and predict how and when they could ignite homes. >> we are tracking the velocity. you see the arrows. they are showing the direction. >> reporter: that data will make

fire forecasts better, helping city planner, firefighters and homeowners protect themselves. >> lot of palms are not native. you can see these very brown husks on these palms. they light up like tiki torches and embers fly off of those, right on to structures and spark new fires. >> reporter: cassie owns a landscaping business that specializes in fire protection. in your laing can reduce the risk of an ember igniting? >> absolutely. >> reporter: number one, leave five feet of gravel or concrete as a buffer around your house. number two, use plants native to your area. >> ideally, the strategy is that the embers land into hydrated green plant and that it loses its fuel. >> reporter: right. >> before it attaches to something that's combustible on a house. >> reporter: number three, wide open is not the way to go. >> if we have all open space

with gravel all the way to the home, it actually creates ember bowling alleys that invite embers to roll in all the way to the home. >> reporter: cassie emphasized that anything can burn but your native shrubs and trees act as a linebacker. they give you extra critical minutes. clearly the invasive grass is spreading more quickly, burning and roaring still. the native shrub here, the white sage, has all but stopped the invasive grasses from continuing to burn. here the ignition site is still going and they have not lit. so this is pretty representative, the researchers are telling us, of what happens. it's a really good idea to check ahead. cassie said garden centers are still selling those invasive grasses. those ornamental pretty plants. just do some research before you buy, guys. >> what do you think about all this, ginger? >> i think that it is a really simple way that we can have some agency and some choice. with droughts, there's very little you can do.

kelsey hatcher said the nurse initially found one baby and one uterus during her first ultrasound. they wanted to check the other just to be sure. that's where they found baby number 2. since then, doctors have been keeping a close eye on this one in a million pregnancy. in a few weeks they will welcome twin girls. 32-year-old kelsey hatcher and husband caleb are expecting twins. but in quite an unusual way. these babies aren't sharing a uterus. >> i have never seen anything like this before. baby on the right is moving and practicing breathing. >> reporter: hatcher was born with two uteri. she's expecting two baby girls, one in each uterus. both due on christmas day. only about .3% of women are born with two uteri, and the chances of being pregnant in both at once could be as rare as 1 in 1 million. >> just to see the pictures was amazing.

>> reporter: regardless of just how rare, the alabama couple staying grounded through all the hype. >> it is twins for us. there will be two babies at one time. that's what we're focusing on, trying to figure out what life will be like when they're here. >> reporter: the couple already has three children ages 7, 4 and 2 from uncomplicated pregnancies. hatcher said this one is not much different. >> one thing that i think is really cool, you can see the difference in the uteri where one baby is on one side and another baby is on another side. it almost at times will look like my normal pregnant belly with like a growth on the side because one is just kind of sticking out over here. >> reporter: doctors are planning on a vaginal delivery, but it's unclear how the birth will actually play out. >> i am mentally trying to prepare for having to wait maybe a day or two in between. >> there's the heart beat. it's almost like two separate

getting access to books. >> when my dad and i started the bookcase, we were really excited to get more people to read, but we also wanted to address parents' questions. how do i get my kids to put down their screens and pick up a book? >> i think it's something every parent talks about. and so we talked to the experts. obviously, everybody says it's 101, read to your kids. that's old hat. but what are the other ideas? ♪ it's a beautiful day in this neighborhood ♪ >> with that familiar tune and friendly smile, fred rogers built a legacy of story telling and sparking curiosity in young kids on his show mr. rogers neighborhood. >> i'm an elephant and i stomp my foot. can you do it? >> sure can. >> who better to talk to than emma lee, assistant director of the fred rogers institute at st. vincent college. >> fred talked a lot about a world of difference between insisting on someone doing something and establishing an

talking about this, anywhere in this country walk into a public library and they will bend over backwards to find the right book for you. anybody has access to that, that's the first thing i say. the second thing i say, let them see you reading for your own pleasure. >> take away number three. use the library. >> if you can't get to the library, call the library. the library has lots of ways to get books to you. >> number four, let your kids see you take out some books from the library for yourself. number five, have your children as soon as they are able, read to you. >> sometimes when i'm talking to a room full of kids and adults, i'll say to the kids, go home and read to your adults. when you're cooking dinner and your kid is reading to you, that's the best. what a gift. >> another idea from research take away number six, use the screens. download some books you choose with your children on their

phone or on your tablet. make screen time reading time. >> that is a great question. who's gonna top that one? >> as kate talked to the kids one boy told her about a great idea his teacher employed to get his students to read. >> we had a reading challenge. we had paper clips. you write your name and write the book down then staple them together an hang them up. >> so everything that the whole has has read is around the classroom. >> we're trying to make a circle around the class. >> i love it. >> it will make it all the way around. >> that's take away number seven. charlie, my daughter, i don't have to tie her down. we celebrate every time she finishes a book. she is addicted to that sense of accomplishment. keep a list of what your kids are reading. they get really excited.
