in the south bay. abc seven news starts now. >> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc. seven news. from protests in san francisco to the playoffs in the south bay, just about anything happening in the region this evening is being impacted by a winter storm that will not let up anytime soon. >> so get ready for an already soggy saturday to get even. soggier. good evening and thanks for joining us, everybody. i'm dionne lim. there is a lot more rain in store this weekend, and we've got team coverage starting with spencer christian, because you have been tracking this storm, which is now a level two. >> it is indeed a level two. diana. as a matter of fact, we have some even heavier rain coming in tonight than we had during the day. let's take a look at live doppler seven. you can see we've got pretty good coverage from the storm right now across the entire region. there is some rain falling, but the heaviest rain right now is moving onshore just right through the central part of the bay area, through the golden gate, through san francisco,

across the bay, over to oakland and that pattern is going to continue for a while as we pull back and show you the looping image on the satellite and radar composite, we'll have wave after wave of rain coming in tonight. and again, it's going to be steadier and heavier later tonight once again on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. this is a level two storm. so for tonight, widespread rain and occasional downpours. those downpours may not always be brief. they could be extended gusty in the hills. slight chance of some thunder as is a little instability in the atmosphere. here's the forecast animation from 530 until about 9 p.m. we'll see moderate to light to moderate rainfall, but it gets moderate to heavy later tonight and then quite heavy between midnight and about 4 a.m. so there's a lot of stormy weather left in this system before it starts to wind down early tomorrow morning. rainfall totals will range from about 2/10 of an inch in parts of the south bay to up to about an inch in some parts of the north bay, and these are some of the impacts to expect from this storm next few days. multiple storms coming through, heavy rain at times. gusty wind

day, busses filled with participants came from hundreds of miles away. >> we wanted to come and show our support and show the world that, um, abortion is it's murder makes your heart feel good to stand up and show that you are proud to be pro-life. >> meanwhile, pro-abortion rights groups held a counter demonstration near the main library. protesters there called for reproductive justice in the wake of the overturning of roe v wade. >> i think that after roe was turned, like so many people don't have access to abortion and even though we might feel safe in this city, we might feel safe in this state. i think it's really important that we show up, especially when there's such a big force across the street. >> the supreme court has two upcoming cases on abortion this terme still ahead tonight, the latest on oakland's embattled mayor and the effort to push her out of office. the deadline this weekend for shengtao and a renewed effort to reduce the number of homeless encampments

in san francisco. prop b is called b safer. the bill would fund full police staffing for 5 to 10 years, set a minimum officer staffing level and allow sfpd to request its own budget changes. prop b is backed by a coalition of city and community leaders who say it could improve public safety and financial transparency. >> prop b creates a recruitment fund. it creates the mandate and it creates the pathway to bring back the minimum number of officers we need to have in san francisco. >> prop b will be on the ballot on march 5th. the mayor of san jose is calling for a new city policy to prevent encampments from returning to downtown. public spaces. last fall, the city used $2 million to move unhoused residents from the guadalupe river trail into interim housing. since then, some camps have returned. mayor mehan wants to create no return zones and limit where those encampments can be. he says the move would protect public areas.

>> if you were here prior to that cleanup effort, you can see why people stopped using the trail. this is a public trail here along the river that should be accessible to everyone. >> some homeless advocates are pushing back on that proposal, calling it cruel. the city council's rules committee will take this all up on this coming wednesday. a long forgotten piece of san francisco history is back, but on a much, much smaller scale. doug vargus and his twin brother dan built a miniature version of the 1939 world's fair golden gate exposition on treasure island. the model went on display for today only at the treasure island museum. it highlights the fair's art deco architecture and some lifelike details of the nearly century old expo. >> i got inspired. i looked at what the real estate i had to work with, and then i had to plan an attack. how i'm going to build this thing in that space. so it was it was challenging.

statewide emergency following deadly ice storms. while in new york, dramatic video shows a car. oh boy, trying to pass a semi-truck before crashing into a snow plow. the good news here no one was injured and in michigan, a dog came to the rescue after his owner fell through the ice just so many images coming from all over the country. we should consider ourselves pretty lucky in the grand scheme of things. >> and in that case, that dog was truly that man's best friend. oh the loyalty there absolutely. yeah, but you're right. compared to the brutal weather happening in other locations, we're lucky here. we're just getting a little rain and some some gusts. here's a look at live doppler seven. now this little rain will become a lot more rain over the next couple of days. and there could be some localized flooding on creeks and streams. but right now we're looking at rain. a batch of rather steady downpours moving right into the central part of the bay area through san francisco and lower marin county and down onto the peninsula, now moving across the bay to oakland and emeryville. so it's going to

be a very wet evening and a late night across the bay area. as you see the pattern here, just wave after wave or band after band of rainfall, some of it rather heavy moving into the region right now we have gusty wind near the coastline, but away from the coast the wind is only breezy. not very strong at the moment. it may get stronger later though, and this is a relatively warm storm, which is why we're not expecting a huge amount of snow in the sierra. you can see right now temperature readings here in the bay area. current readings two to about four degrees higher than they were at this time yesterday. right now it's 57, in san francisco, 59 oakland hayward, 5056, in oakland, rather, hayward 5958. san jose, san mateo 5754 at half moon bay. sort of a dreary view looking from emeryville toward the bay bridge. 53 right now in santa rosa, mid 50s also at petaluma, napa. fairfield. concord, 57 degrees and looking across the embarcadero. these are our forecast headlines. rainy, breezy to gusty conditions will continue for the night. for tonight into early tomorrow

morning. stronger storms coming our way late tomorrow and into monday with more downpours and a chance of some thunder. and then the partial impact from all this wet weather is some localized flooding. trees may be blown down because of the saturated soil, the loosening of the roots and the gusty wind. the current storm ranks level two on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. storm of moderate intensity for tonight. more widespread rain. it'll be gusty in the hills. occasional downpours and again, a slight chance of thunder. here's a forecast animation starting at 530. notice between 530 and about 9:00. we'll see the rainfall become more widespread, but it will be generally light. generally light to moderate. up until that point. after 9 p.m, we'll see the rain becoming a bit heavier, but the really intense downpours are likely to occur between midnight and about 4 a.m. across the entire region, so no one will be spared from this storm before it starts to ease up. rainfall totals by late tomorrow afternoon, generally from about 2/10 of an inch in

parts of the south bay, closer to a half inch near the golden gate, and from san francisco across to oakland up in the north bay, over three quarters of an inch in many locations and a winter storm warning will be in effect or is in effect until 10 p.m. monday. for much of the western slopes of the sierra, heavy, wet snow 8 to 16in of snow in the 6000 foot range, 1 to 3ft of snow above 7000ft. overnight lows tonight mainly 50 to 52 degrees. highs tomorrow up to about 60 or 62. so not a very wide range of highs. and here is the accuweather seven day forecast. we have two more days of level two storms coming our way. heavy downpours developing tomorrow night. the early part of the day tomorrow won't bring us any heavy rain. most most likely just some light. excuse me light. scattered showers, but heavy downpours tomorrow night. more rain and a chance of thunder again on monday. so again, two days of level two storms. then the storms ease up a bit. level one on tuesday and wednesday, a mix of sun and

her and i think she's extremely talented and the things that she's putting out there is are one of a kind, and i just want to make sure she got that credit. >> um, you know, at first the announcers, you know, they're like, hey, taylor swift can get nike to do anything. and i was like, ah, come on. like, we gotta let these people know it was all. it was all christian. um, that was all her. so i was really happy to see her get her credit. taylor had said that she was going to wear it. you never know until you get to the stadium. so when we saw it at the same time, everyone else did when she, you know, came out of the golf cart with the jacket on and we were fired up, approached kyle about getting a custom jacket from his wife. >> um, no, i haven't, but my wife actually was talking about that. but i told her i don't have a number, so you better not wear that. that'll be so embarrassing for us. but no, that was cool. i, um, she's awesome, and she does. she does that stuff all the time. she's my daughter. my daughter likes to make clothes. since she was, like, seven years old. so she's always sending her some stuff to that. they try to make. so it's awesome. it's cool.

with the illness. now, when they discovered addison was a huge sharks fan, they connected her with the team, who then invited her to join them at practice yesterday. she even got a custom hockey stick, a locker room tour and tonight she gets to see her very first nhl game in person. the sharks take on the anaheim ducks at 7:00 in san jose. it's nice to see the organization all come together and put a big smile on her face. >> absolutely putting smiles on all of our faces. that's such a sweet story, i love it. >> yeah, nice to see since the weather isn't putting a smile on many people's faces out on the ice is a good place to be, right narrator: the hollywood awards season is here. tonight means a lot to me, and i'm very grateful for it. when you are brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director, you win big. we're talking with the year's biggest stars at film festivals and award shows leading up to oscar sunday.
