pack allegiant stadium. hundreds of thousands more flooding las vegas' world-famous bars and hotels. >> and we're finally here again and we're excited. i would really like the chiefs to win. >> we're very proud to be niner fans. >> reporter: today's showdown, a rematch between kansas city and san francisco. their last super bowl meeting in 2020. the chiefs winning in a thriller. both teams finalizing their preparations over the weekend, posting final messages from their social media accounts. the 49ers writing, job's not finished. >> touchdown, san francisco. >> reporter: the chiefs saying, they say they're tired of us, but we ain't tired yet. >> when the press is on, so are we. ♪ are you ready for it ♪ >> reporter: and are you ready for it? perhaps no one more excited for the big game than taylor swift. social media abuzz saying taylor swift flew more than 5,400 miles across the world after her final show in tokyo. aviation journalists tracking her jet dubbed the football era,

seen here reportedly landing at l.a.x. on saturday. swift's support for her boyfriend, kansas city tight end travis kelce, has taken the internet by storm, and all across the city, stars spotted on red carpets. legends like tom brady, peyton manning, and ron gronkowski, musicians like post malone and green day, making appearances at events around town. nba icon shaquille o'neal stopping by to say hello to "gma" on the fanatics red carpet. even he was excited at the prospect of meeting miss americana herself. >> i'll probably go to the game, find out where she is, shake her hand, take a picture and then come back home. >> reporter: history on the line for both of these teams here. if the chiefs win, they'll be the first team to win back to back champions. and if the niners win, whit, as they would win their sixth super bowl title.

that would tie them with the steelers for the most all-time. >> whit: niners. >> janai: you know, i was going to say, will. the camera's coming back to me, but if you could see the smirk on this man's face. thank you, will. a big if, sir. and las vegas is america's gambling mecca. having the super bowl there puts wagering in the spotlight like never before. abc's morgan norwood joins us with a look at the gameday odds. good morning, morgan. >> reporter: good morning to you, janai. there was a time when the nfl was careful about being linked to gambling. that was 20 years ago. now two decades later, the super bowl is touching down in the betting capital of the world. we are just hours until kickoff in las vegas, and the bets are already starting to roll in. according to the american gaming association, listen to this. a record 67 million americans a expected to bet on the big game, whether casually with friends, part of a pool, or traditional wagers online, and look. they're putting up big bucks. americans are expected to wager an estimated $23 billion. yes, with a "b," on the matchup between the chiefs and the

49ers, and betting, well, it continues to grow year after year with the sports betting now legal in 38 states plus d.c., but all bets are off for fans in california and missouri. those are the two states that arguably had the most interest in playing this year, but sports betting not legal there just yet. okay, so, let's talk odds in this tight matchup against the 49ers. 49ers slightly favored over the kansas city chiefs at least on paper. hip-hop star drake says he cannot bet against the swifties. on instagram, he posted that he put up -- listen to this. $1.15 million on the chiefs, gio. i don't know about you. take a good look at whit and see if he gave us an eye roll or a smirk. >> gio: he is shaking his head. he is shaking his head. i'm not sure he likes that one. >> whit: he's going to have to call the hotline bling for some help after that. >> gio: oh. okay. all right. thank you, morgan. the big game will be played in a domed allegiant stadium so it's protected from the weather. what about all those tailgaters? somara theodore is here with the gameday forecast. hey, somara. >> somara: let's get this party

started. here's what's going on in las vegas, 51 degrees at noon. by 2:00 p.m., 53 degrees. this is a little bit below average. they should actually be in the 60s, but i'm not complaining because things look dry. by kickoff, temperatures will be in the low 50s with winds coming out of the northeast at 3:00 p.m. look at all that sunshine. things look good for the gameday forecast. so what about those postgame celebrations? i don't know which team is going to win, but i can say this forecast is a sure winner. dry in both cities. san francisco in the 50s dropping into the 40s by 1:00 a.m. kansas city dropping to about 33 degrees by 3:00 a.m. again, no rain or snow to contend with. whit, i do forecast numbers for a living and i see your 49ers winning. >> whit: okay, all right. you were being objective for a moment. we appreciated that. thank you. all right, we do have a lot to cover this morning. let's get to washington where this week republicans again will try to impeach homeland security

secretary alejandro mayorkas after a failed vote the first time around. abc's ike ejiochi is on capitol hill with more. ike, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, whit. this week house republicans are going to try for a second time in just as many number of weeks to impeach homeland security secretary alejandro mayorkas. republicans trying and failing to impeach mayorkas last week after all democrats and a few republicans voted against impeachment including a dramatic moment when democratic representative al green rolled into the chamber in a wheelchair and hospital scrubs to help democrats kill the measure, 214-216. but now republicans may have the numbers needed. house majority leader steve scalise is expected to return to washington this week after undergoing treatment for blood cancer. scalise has indicated that the second impeachment vote would happen tuesday night, charging mayorkas with two articles of impeachment. the first accuses him of willfully and systematically refusing to comply with federal immigration laws with the second article claiming mayorkas breached the public trust by lying to congress and oversight of his agency.

mayorkas calling the charges baseless and inaccurate later writing in a letter, that the accusations do not rattle me. with scalise's support, if all republicans are present and voting, house republicans can afford to lose three votes on the impeachment vote. if the absence of any gop member happens, that could put the passage in jeopardy. janai? >> janai: and the numbers matter. ike, thank you for that. now to former president trump's challenging week ahead. he has a hearing this week in the federal classified documents case against him in florida, and if he appears, it would be his first court appearance in that case since he was arraigned. abc's faith abubey joins us live from georgia. another state where the former president has a hearing this week. good morning to you, faith. >> reporter: good morning to you, janai. former president donald trump does have a full legal calendar. it's unclear at this point whether he'll actually show up at that private proceeding in florida in his federal criminal case accusing him of taking and failing to return classified documents documents after his

time in office. special prosecutor jack smith's team and trump's attorneys are arguing over several legal issues, including whether secret government information should be disclosed in court documents and how witnesses should be protected after prosecutors say others have been harassed and intimidated. trump has pleaded not guilty and says this case is politically motivated. his case is ramping up just days after special counsel robert hur cleared president biden in his classified documents probe. trump while president does appoint hur as u.s. attorney, but it was attorney general merrick garland who elevated him as special counsel in the biden case. in a scathing report, hur declined to charge president biden pointing out stark differences between the two, saying biden cooperated with investigators while trump allegedly tried to obstruct the case and allegedly conspired to block investigators from actually recovering the classified documents adding that

he couldn't prove in front of a jury that biden intentionally violated the law. as for his own legal troubles, trump does a have a significant week ahead. he has that court hearing not just in florida, but he also has hearings here in georgia and here in new york. janai? >> janai: definitely a busy week ahead, faith, thank you. now let's bring in abc's jonathan karl who will be hosting "this week" later. jon, good morning. always great to have you. let's talk about the special counsel report regarding president biden. how serious a hit has his campaign taken from that? >> jonathan: well, look, you know, on the positive side, they found that they couldn't take criminal charges here. no recommendation of any prosecution in the indictment, but it's quite devastating on a number of levels. first of all, it shows he clearly mishandled classified documents. it's very different than what trump did, but it's not good, but the most devastating thing are the comments about his age with the special counsel here in a legal document describing the president of the united states as a well-meaning elderly man

with a poor memory. that is a phrase you're going to hear over and over again in this campaign now thanks to the special counsel. >> janai: and we saw the president's reaction to that, how upset he was about it in that press conference. you have a big interview ahead on "this week" this morning with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu and you asked him about the president. let's take a look at that. >> jonathan: what's your assessment of him? >> jon, i have had more than a dozen phone conversations, extended phone conversations with president biden. he also came on a visit to israel during wartime which is an historic first, and i found him very clear and very focused. we managed to agree on the war aims and on many things. sometimes we had disagreements, but they weren't borne of a lack of understanding on his part or on my part. so that's what i can tell you. so i haven't seen that. >> janai: what's your take on that, jon? >> jonathan: well, first of all, this was an extraordinary

interview with the israeli prime minister. we spoke about his efforts. he's talking about a new military ground incursion into rafah, the southern part of gaza. the united states is warning saying, absolutely do not do that. under the current circumstances it will be a humanitarian catastrophe. so i spoke to him about that, but this was interesting because you have to keep in mind that when the special counsel interviewed president biden, it was in october of last year. it was just right after hamas attacked israel, and in that week, netanyahu had four separate phone conversations, detailed conversations with president biden and of course, as he mentioned in that quote, biden actually then flew over to israel and met with him in person. so his assessment, even as biden is strongly criticizing israel and is strong criticizing netanyahu over their conduct in gaza, on this question of biden's mental acuity, you heard from the israeli prime minister

that in his view anyway, biden is very much on top of developments over there. >> janai: that is in his view and the timing of this interview, jon, really incredible just days after talk of a cease-fire now expanding that ground invasion into rafah. jon, thank you. make sure to tune into "this week" later this morning for more of jon's interview with benjamin netanyahu. plus, the latest on the 2024 election with senator chris coons of delaware and georgia governor brian kemp. gio? >> gio: overseas now where king charles attended church and released his first statement since being diagnosed with cancer. abc's ines de la cuetara is at buckingham palace with the latest. good morning, ines. >> reporter: good morning, gio. we actually just saw the king walking to church alongside camilla. he was in good spirits, even smiling at one point. it's his first proper public appearance since it was announced earlier this week that

he has cancer. he also heard from the king for the first time since his diagnosis releasing a statement, i would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes i have received in recent days. he added he hopes this sheds light on this cancer, and hopes it brings donations to organizations across the world. it's still unclear what kind of cancer the king has, how advanced it may be. we do know that he has begun treatment with queen camilla saying he's doing extremely well under the circumstances, and meanwhile no update on princess kate's condition. she is recovering from an abdominal surgery. abc understands the entire wales family are also staying in norfolk this weekend, whit. >> whit: ines, thank you. now to a timely law enforcement alert ahead of valentine's day. warning of romance scams. alexis christoforous has more on that for us. alexis, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, whit. it's an urgent warning today from the fbi about romance scams ahead of valentine's day. the scammers create fake profiles on dating apps or

social media sites, they then strike up a relationship to gain your trust. some romance scams red they're always too busy to meet up. they prefer to communicate over instant message or text. their stories seem farfetched and they have sudden emergencies that require money to fix it. the fbi calls romance scams a serious crime that's on the rise. in 2022, nearly 70,000 people reported a romance scam costing victims $1.3 billion. the dating app bumble has even launched an a.i. tool to weed out fake profiles. to protect yourself, experts say never wire money, send cryptocurrency, or give numbers on a gift card. avoid talking about your finances like divorce settlements or job promotions and try a reverse image search of profile pictures. if the details don't match up, it's probably a scam. janai? >> janai: important to know, alexis, because those are incredibly prolific scams. >> whit: yep. >> janai: we're going to switch gears now and get a check of the weather with somara theodore,

and you are tracking storms. >> somara: yeah. remember we talked about those nocturnal storms being so dangerous. they have been rolling through dallas, texas. here's a look at our earth cam visual of dallas this morning. you can see kind of shrouded in the clouds. it's been very wet down there. thunderstorms continuing to roll through. ping-pong ball-sized hail has come down south of dallas. that shows you just how strong these storms can be. what happens next? the monday morning commute and the monday evening commute going to be soakers with severe storms rolling through from the florida panhandle to the carolinas through monday evening. the biggest threat, we are looking at the threat for

aspirational. these women are role models on and off the field. they are absolutely forces to be reckoned with. they're the beacons of positivity and encouragement, rallying their teams and captivating fans from the sidelines. why did you want to become a cheerleader? >> because a lot of folks aren't going to get in close proximity with the team so when you can be that person who makes that special moment for that person who's maybe never been to a football game before, that's a really big deal. >> reporter: the 49ers gold rush and kansas city chiefs cheerleaders are just hours away from gracing the nfl's biggest stage, and cheering is far from the only thing on their packed calendars. >> we only practice on saturdays. so not only is the priority into our full-time jobs so that we have the capacity and the resources to be able to show up on game days and show up for practice, but then we also have the support of our team. >> reporter: when they're not rooting for the chiefs, sadie is a fashion buyer. taylor works in a domestic

violence prevention at a university, and cooper is a middle school english teacher. what do kids in your english class say when you say, i have to go in the super bowl? >> they're, like, so you're leaving? it's funny. some of them find me on game day and they're not realizing that the same person they see on tv is the same person that's in the classroom. >> reporter: for the 49ers, elayna is a legal analyst works for a private equity firm. anika is a certified public accountant, and kaylie is a finance associate. >> i thought i would have to go down a path of pursuing my education or dancing and i thought it was one or the other and i feel like that's kind of my purpose on the team to show young kids out there you can do it all. you don't have to choose. >> if i'm wearing my cpa hat, i'm at work, and if i'm wearing my gold rush hat, i'm at gold rush. i've always been a big fan of hannah montana. now i get to live a double life too. >> we get to tell people our stories and show little boys and little girls out there that with hard work and a lot of, you know, dedication, you can chase all those dreams. >> reporter: both 49ers and chiefs cheer team have been

jaclyn, good morning. a really wild story here. >> reporter: that's right, janai, good morning to you. the former judge coming under fire for her conduct during a very serious court case. she'd only been a judge for a year before stepping down, and now she's speaking out. this morning, an oklahoma judge is off the bench after she was caught on camera texting and scrolling on facebook during a murder trial in the killing of a 2-year-old. district judge traci soderstrom who was initially suspended with pay resigning after she was accused by the state's supreme court of gross neglect and duty of bias. >> i texted during a trial. it doesn't matter whether it was a traffic case or whether it was a divorce case or whether it was a first-degree murder case. i texted during a trial, and that was inappropriate. >> reporter: an investigation discovered that she exchanged more than 500 text messages and emojis with a bailiff during the trial including inappropriate comments about an eyewitness and

mocking prosecutors texting, this is dumb, during the state's direct examination of a witness, and can i please scream liar liar? during eyewitness testimony. the former judge even texting, he's pretty. i could look at him all day, about a police officer on the stand. the state's supreme court saying the texts show a lack of temperament to serve as a judge. >> i didn't make up my mind. even if i had, it wouldn't have mattered because i was not the fact-finder. the fact-finder was the jury. >> reporter: the former judge initially set to go to trial in a special court opting to resign instead, claiming she wants to be able to speak out against alleged misconduct in the judicial system. prosecutors allege soderstrom was trying to change the narrative and act like the evidence found against her does not exist. as part of her resignation, she may never seek judicial office in oklahoma again. gio? >> gio: all right, jaclyn. thank you so much. time now for the weather. somara theodore is back here

blockbusters president biden and the special counsel report former president trump and the supreme court hearing what happens next on. always abc seven news starts right now. >> good morning i'm stephanie sierra in the east bay. we're learning more about a deadly stabbing that happened at pleasant hill park. it happened early saturday morning. and police say the victim was a city employee. investigators identified him as 37 year-old santiago jacobo from pittsburgh. they say he was a member of the park's janitorial staff, and his body was found by his wife. this is pleasant hill's first homicide of the year, as we also have new details about the fishing vessel that washed ashore in the north bay. this happened on friday. officials are concerned about potential pollution from the 1500 gallons of diesel fuel on board the vessel grounded itself on the sonoma coast state park, two miles southwest of bodega bay.
