>> i would anticipate that you will see more of this until there is a cease fire, until there is an end to this genocide. >> dozens of protesters now facing trespassing charges after taking over the lobby of san francisco's israeli consulate. their ongoing call for an end to an israeli offensive in gaza. good morning to you. >> on this tuesday, june 4th, start with a check of our forecast with drew. >> all right. so we're setting to get hot later on this afternoon. heat advisory is in. excessive heat warnings will begin there. these will kick in this morning. and this is going to last for several days until thursday afternoon. and this just means we have the increased risk of heat related illnesses. and the first heat wave of the year is always toughest on our body. so we do want to take precautions out there this afternoon. i mean, look at this. the sun's already on the rise this morning. we have clear skies. it's dramatically different day when it comes to our sky. compared to yesterday, the only area right now reporting any sort of cloud cover is half moon bay temperatures. right now we are starting out mainly in the 50s,

but today's one of those days where temperatures are going to warm very fast. the place to be if you want to get relief. the coast. look at these temperatures today mid 60s under full sunshine. that's going to feel nice, but it's dramatically warmer around the bay shoreline. look how fast these temperatures take off. low 70s by 10 a.m. and then by the afternoon. look at this full sunshine. we're in the upper 80s with some areas going into the low 90s around the bay shoreline, even hotter inland, where we do have a mix of heat advisories and excessive heat warnings. mid and upper 90s. i would not be surprised if a few cities touch 100 degrees this afternoon. we'll take a closer look at these daytime highs coming up in eight minutes. let's say hi to amanda. see the drives going good morning drew. >> yeah it's only tuesday, but if that heat has you thinking about the weekend, here's something to note. commuter alert for those who rely on caltrain because of electrification testing, there will be no train service between san jose and san francisco. so this is june 8th and june 9th. limited bus service, though will be provided. let's get back to the desk developing news in redwood city this morning.

>> firefighters are still watching for flare ups after a massive fire destroyed an affordable housing complex under construction in north fair oaks. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez is there. gloria, what are you seeing this morning? >> yeah, you know, it's actually also what we're smelling this morning. reggie is still pretty smoky out here. we can smell the smoke, and there's still a fire crew out here that has been here throughout the night. now, we're told that from a resident that somebody actually saw crews knock down part of the scaffolding because there were concerns that it would collapse. the fire broke out at the six story building off middlefield road in redwood city around 1015 yesterday morning. fire officials say dozens of construction workers safely evacuated at the time. this is a housing project that was a decade in the making. it was slated to have 179 units, a child care center and more. and it was a joint effort by san mateo county and mercy housing. during the firefight, crews say that wind was a challenge. fire officials say no injuries were

reported and no other structures were damaged. >> and i think, you know, they did a great job of containing it to the structure of origin. but at the end of the day, you know, it's still going to be it's pretty, you know, pretty catastrophic. >> the total cost of the project was $155 million. and right now the cause of the fire is still under investigation. again, we are seeing crews out here still this morning continuing to monitor what happened here live in redwood city. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria this morning, firefighters are monitoring a series of fires all within miles of each other near livermore. and tracy and amanda crews are making some good progress, but people who live in that area are still being impacted. yeah. >> kumasi let's talk about those impacts. dozens of people are still without power in livermore this morning after a small fire on the eastern edge of town. now, the patterson fire is burning near the altamont pass. flames moved fast in the grass there off 580. it has burned 110

acres since it started around 415 yesterday afternoon. containment is up to 75% with no buildings threatened. patterson pass road is still closed. firefighters are sharing significant progress on the corral fire as well. that fire in tracy is now 85% contained. it has not grown since sunday and all evacuations have been lifted. flames did destroy one home in its first hours on saturday. neighbors told us they rushed to help and stayed until 3 a.m. sunday to keep the fire from spreading to more homes >> i took off running up the driveway and i just thought it was a matter of seconds before my house was going to burn. >> we're also tracking a fire off cross road in eastern livermore at last check. firefighters say it burned at least ten acres. power lines also came down in the area. we're still working to learn what fire officials are saying about how any of these fires started back to you at the desk.

diego and uc santa barbara started yesterday. >> uc irvine is set to start tomorrow and for a second time, the university of california was blocked from getting a court order to stop the strikes. as a result, teaching assistants are not doing their usual grading work. it's a week before final exams at many campuses, and grading deadlines are fast approaching. it could jeopardize graduation. >> this morning, 70 people are facing trespassing charges for a protest at the lobby of san francisco's israeli consulate. pro-palestinian protesters vowed to occupy the building until they were removed. this happened yesterday morning. police put up barricades and we saw officers removed several people from the building. officers say they arrested people who refused to leave. they were cited and released. >> the first h5n1 bird flu cases have now landed in san francisco. two infected chickens were found during an inspection of a live bird market in the

versus our typical averages. you can see the forecast for livermore napa mid and upper 90. that's close to 20 degrees above average for this time of the year oakland. it's going to be warm if not hot today in the mid 80s our typical daytime highs right around 70 degrees. it's a similar story for sfo. the city today is going to feel quite warm. upper 70s to near 80 degrees hot in san jose in the low 90s. and santa rosa, one of the areas we're watching closely that could hit 100 degrees close to 20 degrees above average later on this afternoon. let's go hour by hour in future weather. it's full sunshine today. by 830. we already have spots well into the 60s, if not low 70s. by lunchtime. look at this heat already on. we're into the 80s and 90s inland, widespread 70s and 80s around the bay shoreline. already at 75 in the city by noon heading into the afternoon, it gets even hotter around here. there you can see places in solano county. i think some of our valleys in napa and sonoma county also have a really good chance at hitting

would revoke a 2018 law that decriminalized street vending. wiener says the legislation takes a focused surgical approach to the rampant problem in many neighborhoods. we know that these issues are most pronounced in the mission tenderloin, some parts of south of market, a few other areas, but the city will be able to use this law wherever the issue arises. the city also has a plan for permitted vendors who've been impacted by the mission street vending moratorium that started back in november. a pilot program is set later this month that will allow a limited number of vendors who had permits before the moratorium to return to mission street, and if that goes well, the program could eventually expand. >> there's a new push for therapy with the use of psychedelics. the fda meeting today to look at treatments for ptsd using mdma, or otherwise known as ecstasy. amanda. this follows years of debate. >> yeah. reggie. an estimated 8

million adults suffer from ptsd in the us. fda advisers will look at results from a clinical trial, which examined a new treatment that coupled the drug mdma, along with therapy. the push to use those drugs is nothing new, especially here in california. for years, some bay area lawmakers have tried to decriminalize certain psychedelics to help people suffering from ptsd. state senator scott wiener has been at the forefront of that push. his bill died in the state legislature earlier this year, but wiener says he and other lawmakers are looking at ways to possibly revive it. >> for some people who are just categorically oppose to doing anything that could be perceived as normalizing drug use. my response is that people are already using these substances. >> some doctors say for many people who suffer from ptsd, oftentimes the traditional treatments don't work. the fda is expected to make a decision about the new treatment by august. back to you at the desk.

bear, wildlife advocates are now calling for a criminal investigation into the shooting of the 16 month old bear cub. the bear league wants investigators to take another look at the killing. they've started an online petition calling on the el dorado county district attorney's office to open a criminal investigation. now the homeowner told wildlife officials he shot the bear when it walked into his home and went for his dog. he then says the bear ran outside, and that's when he said he shot the bear again, because it appeared to be suffering. but a neighbor says he saw the whole thing and is now disputing that account. just last week, the state department of fish and wildlife announced they have no intentions of citing the homeowner. >> a popular san diego area beach is reopening this morning, days after a shark attack left a swimmer with serious injuries. officials say the victim is still in the icu. the 46 year old was swimming with about a dozen other people at del mar beach sunday morning when the attack happened, one friend says

started. winds were strong saturday and quickly fanned the flames. >> it took the first fire guard perimeter that started and ran a simulation from there. and you can then see in time as we animate through the time steps where we were, you know, an hour from there, two hours from there, pg and e sends that data to crews who helped preserve power lines during a fire. >> despite the strong wind, p-g-and-e's did not issue a public safety power shut off. they say it would need to be an unusual wind event for that to happen, and this weekend's conditions didn't meet their criteria as california struggles with the ongoing effects of wildfires, researchers at stanford are working to understand long term threats include threats to our health, a multiyear study out of stanford looked at soils in forest areas that have been slow to recover from recent wildfires. >> although early research has pointed to drought, experts found toxic concentrations of chemicals in the soil. they say this could be slowing regrowth. now, the team is also working to
