friday, it's june 14th, and lisa lisa is here. >> hello. >> good morning to you. we're going to warm it up. how about that, please? it was freezing yesterday. >> oh my gosh. >> down coat layers boots. yeah it was freezing. and as we look at live doppler seven right now looks like there's no cloud cover around. but we know better. there's a marine layer there, a little bit of it from the south bay down towards monterey. right now it is 57 in hayward. and looking at those cold 40s up in the north bay, 44 sonoma, it is 45 in novato. so compared to yesterday, right now we are colder from mountain view and san jose 4 to 5 degrees colder also up in novato. so we will look for a slight warming trend today away from the shoreline. temperatures by noontime will come up through the upper 60s. bayside, upper 70s in in and around noontime in our inland valleys. but, you know, we're still going to keep that wind, certainly by the coast, but upper 80s by the afternoon. that's an improvement. and we'll look for upper 70s around the bay shore. so it will be warmer. we'll have

some breezy winds and we will be looking at high fire danger as we get into the father's day weekend. as winds will get elevated. so we have a couple things to talk about in detail for the weekend, which unfortunately doesn't keep the warmth around. we'll talk about that a bit later. gloria all right. >> thank you so much, lisa. all right. so we do want to start off with a little bit of backup that we're seeing in san jose. we have our map here that you see mostly green, but we're going to zoom in to where we're seeing that backup. and this is because of an earlier incident over on northbound 87. there's an accident involving a pedestrian on west taylor street. the off ramp is completely blocked there. and taking a look at our drive times for this morning on 580 westbound from tracy to dublin, 31 minutes. san rafael to san francisco, 17 minutes. antioch to concord, 14 minutes. and we do want to tell you a little bit more about that incident that i mentioned in san jose. we have some video here to show you. the chp is investigating that deadly

crash on state route 87 in san jose. it happened just before three this morning at the taylor street off ramp. a car hit a pedestrian and that off ramp is still shut down. crews are in the middle lanes in the northbound direction. no word yet on when that will reopen, but of course we'll keep tracking that for you throughout the morning. kumasi >> thanks, gloria. if you are in san francisco's east cut, the financial district or yerba buena neighborhoods today, you need to be on alert because starting today, eight new businesses opening their doors in that neighborhood, those neighborhoods, thanks in part to the expansion of the city's vacant environment program, it provides free rent for three months to help businesses get off the ground with the potential to extend that lease. those aren't the only places where we are starting to see businesses pick up again. abc seven news reporter lena howland joining us live with the new life being breathed into the emporium in downtown, formerly known as the westfield mall, lena. >> kumasi, good morning to you. there's a good chance you may start to notice some new faces

as seven two as seven new tenants are moving into the emporium in downtown san francisco. now for the last few years, major tenants have packed up and left, including nordstrom. but things are now looking up. one of those new tenants moving in is the yerba buena community benefit district executive director scott rowett says the space is exactly what he wanted, noting this isn't just a mall but an office space. >> two we know now is the time and now is the time for everybody to get on board, reinvest, reinvigorate and refocus these neighborhoods. and so we want to lead the charge to do that. >> his business will bring around 30 employees who will begin working in the space in the coming weeks. other new tenants moving in include a retailer selling sustainable products and a japanese consumer goods store live in san francisco. lena howland, abc seven news lena, thank you.

>> we continue to follow the story of the controversial center bike lane on valencia street in the mission district in san francisco during a digital roundtable yesterday, san francisco's transit agency said they're ready to propose the removal of that center bike lane. merchants blame it for a decline in business because it eliminated 70 parking spots. abc seven spoke with the business owner, who has run a coffee shop on valencia for 33 years. >> financially, definitely. we're hurting and we had the place up for sale about about three months ago. >> best option for both safety and to support the local merchants is likely side running a design. >> it's interesting is that while one of the designs would have people riding bikes around and restaurant parklets, another one would put the bike lane between the curb and the parklets. and according to the chronicle, sfmta will allow each merchant to decide which configuration they want. so imagine now the bike lane swerving in and around parklets

depending on what the business owner decides. sfmta will present its proposals to the board of directors tuesday. >> federal the federal government is upping its effort to combat the san francisco drug crisis. agents are now doing nightly operations in the tenderloin neighborhood. the u.s. attorney's office says the patrols have resulted in drug seizures and numerous complaints against dealers. all of this is a part of a coordinated effort on the local, state and federal level to crack down on fentanyl trafficking. >> taking a live look now at sfo this morning, we're just a few days from the finish renovations inside harvey milk terminal one and a well-known san francisco shop is going to be moving in green apple books. the bookstore has two locations in san francisco, with the first opening in 1967. the airport location will be owned and operated by hudson news, with support from green apple books. it will be totally independent from the other locations and this will be the largest hudson owned bookstore in the country. >> well, we know summer vacations are getting underway,

but if your plans are taking you to florida over the next few days, you may want to rethink those plans. gloria, people there being told to prepare for flash flooding today. >> they are kumasi. authorities say conditions are going to deteriorate throughout the day, so check this out. the state has already seen more than 20in of rain in some areas this week after a tropical depression stalled out over the southern part of florida. governor ron desantis has declared a state of emergency because of that flooding. the mayor of miami dade county addressed the public, telling people to please stay home if they can. >> it will not take much time to already be uh- exacerbate the saturated conditions in the hardest hit areas, additional rains will lead to more flooding and flood watches will remain in effect for more than 7 million people across south florida through this evening, the state could see up to ten more inches of rain through tomorrow before things start to dry out. >> now let's get a check of your

forecast here with lisa. good morning lisa. >> hey gloria, good morning to you. we're waking up to partly cloudy conditions. and as we look live outside from mount tam, you can see the marine layer there. it's scattered about in the north bay. 52 downtown, 56. in oakland, it's 52. in redwood city, pretty view there from vollmer peak, our east bay, a nice and clear right now, but there will be a little bit of patchy fog. low 50 livermore upper 40, santa rosa. low 40 in petaluma. so we're partly cloudy this morning. sunny slightly warmer today and then looking at windy conditions tomorrow. late tomorrow into sunday. father's day and even monday. so highs today making into the mid and upper 80s in spots. but look at the wind. it's back in san francisco with upper 60s low 70s peninsula mid 70s in palo alto, and then a fire weather watch goes up by late tomorrow night into monday. so we're looking at the areas right around the bay, lake county, vacaville, looking at the low relative humidity. and look how far these winds are going to climb. this is sunday,

who access the abortion medication mifepristone and gloria, today, we could get another decision regarding abortion access in an emergency situation. >> we could kumasi the supreme court still has 24 opinions to get through before its term is up, and it could release four more today. now, one of those cases could decide whether federal law protects abortion access in emergency rooms. when a woman's health is at risk. it comes on the heels of yesterday's decision on the abortion medication mifepristone. the court was unanimous, ruling abortion opponents lacked the legal right to sue over the fda's approval of the medication. the ruling means that mifepristone will remain available to people to use. however, the fight is far from over. >> this is the same district court that already has allowed several states the states of kansas, idaho and missouri to intervene. we continue the fight. it is not over. >> we'll be back with another case with better standing next

time. >> and while the court ruled against this case, there were hints for anti-abortion groups to continue their fight. in one part of the opinion, justice brett kavanaugh wrote that the plaintiff may, quote, present their concerns and objections to the president and fda and the regulatory process, or to congress and the president in the legislative process, suggesting if a different president were in office, they may find a path to restrict the medication outside of the courts. of course, we'll keep you updated on this, reggie. >> gloria. thank you. from mines to vines to humanitarian helping hand coming in the form of wine making, helping ukrainian vintners replant and regrow their war ravaged fields. and with our area's wine. know how the bay area is playing a central part. we've reported a lot on the work of the bay area humanitarian group roots of peace. a new effort is looking to revive bomb and mine ravaged vineyards in ukraine. just last week, some ukrainian winemakers paid a visit to napa valley.

>> war is in our soul, in our life, but we need to continue our life. we need to live our life. so of course we need to work and our wine makers in now. >> they work harder, have to be very careful when you prune. >> the group spent a week at grgich hills estate winery in rutherford. they learned about regenerative organic farming and agricultural method that prioritizes soil health and ecosystem balance, and the idea came about that since we're really one of the pioneers of this agricultural method, is to really encourage and teach them about what we have learned. so how did this all happen? well, in 2000, the founder of roots of peace worked with the nephew of one of the winemakers at grgich to clear landmines in croatia. we've closely followed the work of roots of peace. san rafael resident and founder heidi kuhn was just nominated for the nobel peace prize earlier this month. she'll find out if she gets that in october. roots of peace planted trees on reclaimed mine

that we have here at the studio. and showcasing all the beautiful work that all of our art team and some of our story team have done for the movie. this near and dear to my heart. yeah. uh- anxiety, miss anxiety. yes, yes, it all kind of started with her. >> i'm anxiety. where can i put my stuff a new emotion? >> it was starting to be, an issue in teenagers, especially teenage girls. and then the pandemic hit. and so we had already kind of landed on anxiety being kind of the main new emotion even before the pandemic. but even after we went through it, we just knew it was an important story to tell. >> so these movies take about four years to make. we cared deeply about authenticity. when we tell our stories and kelsey and i, if you've ever met us, you may notice that none of us were ever 13 year old girls. i did notice that. yeah so we thought this would be really helpful to see what teens right now think about this story we're telling, and get their reaction to it so that we can make it as believable as possible. so we pick nine girls from around the

country that we met with for a period of three years and showed them the movie every four months and got their notes and their feedback. we wanted believable relationships between riley and her friend group and what she's going through emotionally. we wanted to make sure that felt truthful to them. we need new friends or will be totally alone in high school, out with the old, in with the new. we hope this movie gives everyone all the feels. it is got heart, it's got humor, but it's got a real emotional depth that we're proud of. and we want this to be meaningful to people and not just fun and entertaining. >> look, we all have a job to do. i plan, i want people to see this film and think differently about their emotions and of themselves and walk away and be able to look at themselves in the mirror and love what they see both inside and out. >> all right. >> i'm i already have my tickets to see it this weekend. i've seen the first 35 minutes of it, but now i've been wondering for weeks now, how does this story go? >> is that why you couldn't sleep last night? yeah i've been

we're going to turn up the notch a little bit in terms of the warmth, but you know you're going to be way from the coast to feel that because we're still looking at those breezy winds at the shoreline. and the temperatures will be in and around average. but you know, that is all relative because those winds really carry in that cooler air from the pacific. and that's what we've been feeling, especially yesterday, the day before. there's a roof camera right now and current numbers are in the low 50s. it's chilly out there. san francisco it is 57, one of the warmer locations in hayward. nice bright view here from our roof camera. but look how cool it is in petaluma. low 40s there, upper 40s santa rosa. and we've got some mid 50s in our inland valleys. so as we look at the winds today, you'll notice that early on not a problem. right. the coast they're picking up by about noontime. and then by the afternoon and evening hours it's pretty brisk from 30 to 40 miles an hour here. but that typical sea breeze inside the bay, we've got high pressure that's going to build in temporarily, allowing for some low 80s in san jose today, upper 70s in sunnyvale. you can see peninsula numbers from the mid 70s in palo

the golden gate bridge and into the south bay. it is 56, in oakland, 52 san francisco. so it is certainly cool once again with numbers dropping into the 40s from novato to sonoma. and our 24 hour temperature change shows we are anywhere from a degree to about five degrees cooler from mountain view to novato. this morning. so 8:00 we're still in the 50s, and we'll get into partly cloudy skies the next few hours. by noontime, near 70 around the bay shore, 70 in fremont, we've got low 80s arriving inland so as we get through the afternoon, you'll notice it's warmer here from napa to san ramon, even over into oakland, san francisco . before that sea breeze kicks in. it will feel pretty good the afternoon high in the mid 60s, and then we'll get into more clouds. tonight we're going to talk about the wind sticking around over the weekend, increasing our fire danger, and already a few advisories up around the bay for that into the weekend. so that's all coming up in a few minutes gloria. yeah. >> you know we're continuing to follow this deadly crash over in san jose and this is on west

are seven more businesses about to open just a short distance away. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live, with the changes coming to the city's biggest mall. >> hi, reggie. good morning to you. the emporium center san francisco is under new management and they are preparing to welcome in seven new tenants. now, this comes after a difficult past few years with major tenants packing up and leaving after the pandemic. the new tenants include a retailer selling sustainable products and a japanese consumer goods store. but at least one of the new tenants is not a retailer. the yerba buena community benefit district is moving in to lease part of the mall's office space. >> it's right in the heart of our neighborhood. and so where could we put our space that is right in the core? where could we put our ambassadors and our cleaners and our public safety people? that really is in the heart. >> i think the revival of like, public spaces, is going to be really big for building community and just allowing, neutral place to meet, to

socialize. >> shoppers we spoke with said it's critical for the community, meaning more shoppers, but also new jobs for some. the yerba buena community benefit district tells us they will be bringing in around 30 employees. they are expected to start working in this space in the next coming weeks. live in san francisco lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you lena. this morning we're learning more details about a shooting in a quiet neighborhood on the peninsula. police say a person was hurt in san mateo yestery, but they ended up along san carlos, along el camino real. abc seven news reporter tim johns has more on what happened. >> and as you can see behind me, police have largely wrapped up their scene here outside the largo apartment complex. officers however, telling us that this is still an active investigation and they're trying to piece together exactly what happened here. san mateo police tell me they first got reports of a shooting near the apartment complex around 445. after that

shooting took place, the suspect fled into the complex shortly after that. police say they got another call about a shooting victim in san carlos. officers were also sent down there, where they determined that that victim was the same person who was shot outside the apartment complex. police aren't yet saying how that person made it down to san carlos, but they said the victim was transported to a nearby trauma center. eventually, san mateo pd were able to locate the suspect inside one of the apartments and got the person to surrender. they have been taken into custody. as you can imagine, neighbors are all really shaken. earlier, i spoke to one father and his son. the little boy, only eight years old, told me he was playing outside when everything unfolded. >> it's pretty shocking to hear. >> first i heard police sirens out of my backyard window and then i heard gunshots. three of them. i started turning off lights and closing curtains. that's smart. and i liked locked myself in with my mom. >> father of that child told me he was incredibly proud of his son for responding the way he did, but he also said he was in

boeing max eight took off. may 25th. the pilots were able to regain control. they made it to oakland safe modern planes have systems to prevent these dutch rolls, but according to the faa's report on the incident, the plane had a damaged backup power control unit. we're also learning this morning. the faa is investigating another potentially serious problem with the boeing jet, gloria. this involves bolts on the 787 plane. >> it does reggie. according to a new report by reuters, boeing discovered hundreds of fasteners have been incorrectly installed on some of the fuselages of some undelivered jets. up to 900v per plane were not tightened the right way. boeing says it's working to figure out what happened and is fixing the issue. they say there are no safety concerns because the planes have not been delivered, and there are no concerns for planes that are already in service. the faa says it's investigating and will be working with boeing to fix the production system, but this is concerned because it's just the latest in a series of really

serious quality control problems at boeing this year, and that includes the alaska airlines boeing 737 max nine that had the door plug blow out. kumasi >> thanks, gloria and the south bay. you may soon be paying more for water. san jose water company is looking at raising water rates by 11% in 2025. they held a public debate about this yesterday. advocacy groups and residents say this increase is well above the current inflation rate, which is about 4. >> the question being asked is not just is water affordable, but are we doing what we can to minimize the inflation rate? and this, this, this rate increase is absurd given the inflation rate. >> the changes could take effect on july 1st. it's estimated the average bill could go up by 10 to $11 a month. >> oakland's newest affordable housing development is now open. the ax cherry hill apartments

the shoreline and we'll be looking at the winds kicking up the fire danger. it's going to be concern over the weekend, although we're not expecting excessive heat, so the winds are really going to be a factor with all the brush that is dried out. since our last rains of the winter season, we have highlighted here the national weather service has where the winds will gust to over 40 miles an hour. so lake county, vacaville, this is all from saturday night into monday and that's going to mean the winds are going to get pretty breezy as well. tomorrow night into sunday. so while we get a bit of a break today with that slight warm up away from the bay from those low 70s in oakland to the mid and upper 80s inland, it's still going to remain quite breezy and gusty along the shoreline. the accuweather seven day forecast. looking at those winds kicking up over the weekend, it'll make it feel colder. it will be a few degrees colder. and then as we get into next week, looks like we're getting into some definitely more summertime

statement to campus leadership, who are present. we do not want our presence at commencement to distract from families and friends recognizing and celebrating your accomplishment. we reached out to stanford regarding their commencement ceremonies, but have not heard. back in the south bay, lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> seven on your side has been tracking the effects of california's wildfire risk and its impact on insurance companies since last year. this week, the state insurance commission released a new proposal to help homeowners, especially in higher risk, higher fire risk areas. part of that proposal, the state's first ever wildfire risk map. it shows the most at risk areas. those are the ones here in orange that includes marin, sonoma, lake and santa cruz counties. under this proposal, insurance companies would commit to writing a certain number of policies in high risk areas. in return, they will be allowed to use something called catastrophe modeling. when seeking rate increases.
