pacifica beach to catch the famous canine competition. >> how cute! we love it! good morning everyone. it is august fifth. >> yes, we're going to start the check of our forecast. is drew. yes. >> so it's out there. cloudy right now. we have some coastal drizzle and we will find a warmer afternoon. in fact, the next couple of days will be warmer than we were over the weekend. here's a live look outside the exploratorium camera this morning, showing you widespread cloud cover. you look at current sky conditions across the region. what we're finding is that we do have some drizzle in oakland this morning. see a lot of cloudy icons on this graphic indicating the marine layer is pretty deep. this morning, but this afternoon we will get a lot of sunshine and a little bit of a warming trend the next couple of days. pretty uniform out there. we look at our current temperatures. good morning. we're in the mid 50s so to speak, for most of us, and we'll find it getting hot inland once again later on this afternoon. so here's our inland forecast today. lots of sunshine, mid 70s by 10 a.m. by 3 p.m. we're mainly in the low and mid 90s and our warmest areas away from the coast now

around the bay shoreline. today we have that fog early on, sun and cloud mix around 10 a.m. and then by 3 p.m. we'll have those daytime highs mainly in the low 70s. but along the coast today it's pretty foggy all morning long. the afternoon we'll see a little bit of sunshine out there. it is breezy as well, and temperatures pretty similar to yesterday will top out in the low 60s. let's check in with sue. see those drive times this morning. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. it's foggy as drew's mentioning. so it's really dense. on the golden gate bridge i came across about an hour or so ago. definite wind chill wipers and it's right down on the deck. the ground is slick as well, through the waldo tunnel or the robin williams tunnel. you will definitely need windshield wipers and before the sun comes up, you'll need to be extra cautious. this morning we also have a fog advisory for the richmond san rafael bridge and parts of pacifica and along the coast. san mateo bridge is clear and moving well about a 17 minute drive from hayward over towards foster city. and our early commuters are up and adam for about a 40 minute, four zero

minute drive from tracy over the altamont into livermore. >> thank you. sue. today in the south bay, we're expecting to learn more about a deadly crash that left a san jose community service officer dead. flags are now at half staff outside san jose police headquarters, with a black ribbon across the. the badge outside the station. police say this is the first time a community service officer or cso has died in the line of duty. that unidentified officer and his partner were conducting traffic control at the scene of a crash on the monterey highway near palm avenue in south san jose saturday night. police say another driver going past that scene hit the two officers. that driver was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. the second cso was seriously hurt, but she's expected to be okay. >> we saw all the all the police cars and fire trucks and so we knew it was pretty bad

>> the unarmed csos response to lower priority. they respond to lower priority calls and help direct traffic. san jose mayor matt mehan released a statement expressing condolences. he says, quote, my prayers are with these two csos, their families and our entire police department and this devastating moment. i assure you that this selfish, reckless act will not go unpunished. >> vice president kamala harris starts a big week of campaigning across the country with her running mate. she could announce who that is as soon as today. overnight, the harris campaign announced harris and her running mate will hit seven battleground states in five days. here's a look at those states. and then vp harris will be in san francisco on saturday. abc news reporter alison kosik has more on the top candidates this morning. >> new questions as vice president kamala harris moves closer to announcing her running mate, one of the men on her shortlist, arizona senator mark kelly, posted and then deleted

evacuations or injuries. developing news on the park fire in butte county. containment of the massive wildfire is now at 31%, but the triple digit heat has returned. the area burned has grown to more than 400,000 acres, making this now the fourth largest wildfire in state history. flames have destroyed 640 structures, evacuated residents are slowly being allowed back, like rick pah'-ha-row, who found the remains of his beloved family cat in the ruins of his home in forest ranch in butte county. >> out. there was a chair that he loved to hide under because he was a little shy, so he sure enough found that he was curled, probably curled up there. and we get to uh- to let him go >> pah'-ha-row lost his former home in the deadly camp fire six years ago. >> happening today. the former president of a youth swim team accused of embezzlement is expected back in an alameda

county courtroom, 45 year old sarah new is charged with three felony counts for stealing more than $50,000. prosecutors say the theft happened over several months while new worked for the alameda gators swim club. the money was discovered missing after new was fired. she surrendered to alameda police last month but was released on bail. if convicted, she could face nine years in prison. >> heads up if you have tickets to the west coast taco and beer festival in san jose. later this month. organizers tell abc seven they have made changes after that event in san francisco this past weekend left quite a few people disappointed. the attendees we spoke with say that the $50 ticket was supposed to include beer, cider and seltzer tasting with a custom cup that you could keep along with access to more than 30 food and drink vendors. well, after waiting in line for more than an hour to even get in, they say the festival failed to deliver on many of its promises after the first 20 minutes. >> like all of the free options had already run out. but it's

like no one even was able to get in by the time like that was offered. if that was the thing at all. >> the organizers, blue stream entertainment, said in a statement. we are transparent as we possibly can be, and we understand the community's frustration with the long lines and the limited tastings. we're currently working with our vendors to improve future events to make sure that we hold our mission statement true and improve the guest experience. organizers tell abc seven they have changed the format for the san jose event that's later this month. it will include bottomless drink samples, but the food will cost extra money. they'll also have a kiosk at the box office where people can ask questions. >> 509 this morning we're going to get you the latest on hurricane debby. this coming in at the top of the hour. it made landfall at 4 a.m. pacific daylight time, about 70 miles south southeast of tallahassee, florida. right now, wind is still a hurricane 75mph. and it's starting to slow down, moving off to the north northeast at about ten miles per hour. and it will be a very slow

already hit by recent storms. and now we've got 4 to 6in coming and i'm just not sure where it's going to go. >> we have a low lying bedroom and a the when it gets heavy rain it comes underneath the door. >> people in low lying areas have been encouraged to evacuate. debbie is expected to move slowly across florida, with 6 to 12in of rainfall and a potential storm surge of 6 to 10ft. the coast guard rescuing two people in rough waters over the weekend, hoisting them to safety when their boat lost its sail. florida governor ron desantis has declared a state of emergency, activating as many as 3000 florida national guard troops to help during the storm. >> there may be immediate impacts that you see, but you could also see flooding that happens days afterwards. do not go into flood waters. there could be dangerous debris. there could be downed power lines. and please do not drive your vehicles through flooded streets. >> by tuesday night, the national hurricane center forecast debbie will make its

way to georgia, then into south carolina. both states are now under emergency declarations, anticipating anywhere from 10 to 30in of rain by the end of the week. >> if so, that will be a generational storm that we've not seen. they're calling it a 500 to 1000 year storm. >> hurricane debbie and thunderstorms in the northeast sunday led to more than 2000 flight cancellations nationwide, with a ripple effect threatening air travel again today. christiane cordero abc news, washington. >> a seattle ultra marathoner is hoping to beat his own record for the fastest completion of the grueling john muir trail in california's high sierra. 33 year-old joe mcconaughey last covered the 223 mile trail, two years ago. you see, it runs from yosemite to mount whitney. it sits at 8000ft in elevation. he did it in three days, one hour and 34 seconds, about three miles per hour on average. a

month later, another ultra marathon runner beat his record by just 12 seconds. mcconaughey hopes to reset the record tomorrow. his trail name is string bean. his instagram shows off how he's been preparing for the run, which will start in yosemite. most who have hiked the trail from end to end do it in 2 to 3 weeks. woo! >> all right, well, if you live in east palo alto, you are going to have to go a bit farther, actually a lot farther to find a target store. target says it's closing its east palo alto location off of highway 101. here's the map. it's on east bayshore road. that closure is set to happen next month. residents say it was a very important place for the community. east palo alto mayor antonio lopez says the situation is unfortunate. the absence of this store means that there will be just one pharmacy and fewer grocery options in the city. >> losing a name like target with its reputation with its visibility for a city like ours,

it's unfortunate. you know, that's that's the reality. >> target says the reason for the closure is underperformance. the closest target stores to east palo alto will now be the one in redwood city, and the one in mountain view. >> the council on american-islamic relations has new home in the bay area. they held a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday morning in santa clara. the organization's leadership, along with members of the bay area muslim community, toured the new facility. the group says having a new permanent office will help the organization better serve and empower american muslims on the peninsula. >> the world dog surfing championship brought the best surfing dogs to pacifica dog surfers and their human friends. hanging ten at linda mar beach for the annual competition. it was over the weekend. the judges were looking at things like distance of the ride and you know, if you have some style, you've got a few bonus points. one french bulldog owner says his dog started to like the water by being in the pool.

>> right off the board. little handle, no kidding. >> this morning it's cloudy out there from our san jose camera. we start out with our morning marine layer giving way to a warmer and brighter afternoon. we'll take a look at the forecast, future weather. we'll put it into motion. so 9 a.m. we're still very gray out there. it's going to be a pretty cloudy start for most of us. and then by about noon lunchtime, that's when the sunshine is really in full force across the region, even across the city, we will find mostly sunny skies for a huge portion. even for those folks close to the beach. we'll get a mix of sun and clouds today. temperatures warmer than yesterday. we'll go back into the 90s, inland 70s and 80s around the bay shoreline. so highs today in our microclimates. let's start in the south bay will be in the 80s and 90s, 82 in santa clara, 94 in morgan hill, 84 in san jose, up the peninsula, 76 san mateo, but 82 in redwood city, quite foggy along the coast this morning for some afternoon sunshine. we'll hit 61. in pacifica. we'll see sunshine breaking out downtown close to about 11 a.m. this morning. a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon along the ocean. we'll

keep it in the low 60s to the low 70s across the city in the north bay, 86 in san rafael, but 90 in santa rosa. we'll go to 96 in lakeport, 84 in napa. the east bay. today we'll start with clouds giving way to sunny skie. 72 in oakland but 78 in union city, castro valley and orinda, up to 81 degrees. and then inland low to mid 90s for the most part 90 in san ramon, about 96. in brentwood. overnight tonight we will see our marine layer come back temperatures again, mainly dipping into the 50s heading into tomorrow. tomorrow will be the warmest day of the week inland. we'll find those temperatures hitting about 100 degrees, but widespread 90s in the north bay and in the south bay. so it's for that fact. the national weather service has just issued a heat advisory for the south bay, includes san jose and gilroy, for just the risk of heat related illnesses, because we do see a one day spike in our temperatures and then cooler air starts to move in here by the end of the week. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast

festival, expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people this weekend. the road closures you need to know about that. start today. >> good morning everyone. it's monday, august 5th. >> let's begin with a check on the weather with drew. >> hey. good morning. we'll begin with a live look outside. we'll take our sfo camera this morning, but sue hall and i have been tracking the drizzle along the coast this morning, including some slick roadways out there. and some cloudy conditions. you look at the current sky cover and it is very cloudy. oakland currently reporting that drizzle out there. the only spot right now that does have clear skies is concord. this morning we'll take a look at temperatures around the bay shoreline. we're mainly in the mid to upper 50s from san francisco to hayward. low 60s in the south bay. morning. santa clara currently at 61 degrees. a similar story in cupertino. some mild air inland around brentwood. and we'll keep it in the 50s across much of the north bay right now looking at our inland forecast first, we will get warm later on today, if not hot mid 90s for daytime highs with a lot of sunshine out there around the bay shoreline. we have that fog early on breaking

into them, and police say that one officer died from his injuries. the other officer was seriously injured, but she is expected to survive. officers arrested the driver at the scene, 81 year old ken sasso picks up garbage in the area, even though he says it's very dangerous. >> i think we need more enforcement of the speed limit along this corridor. nobody goes 55, they go 85, 95, 100. you know. >> the san jose police department released a statement saying, quote, our entire police family is heartbroken by this line of duty, death and our collective arms are around his family, friends and teammates as we cope with this painful incident. and today, the police chief is expected to provide more information about the investigation, as well as about that officer who was killed. live in san jose. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> all right. thank you. gloria.

president harris reached enough democratic delegate support to become the party's presidential nominee. the democratic national convention is in chicago, starts two weeks from today. >> the faa is investigating after a plane crashed onto a golf course in sacramento. that plane had just taken off from mcclellan mcclellan air force base when authorities say the engines shut down at 400ft, it went down over a golf course, bouncing off the practice green, and then skidded on its belly toward the pro shop. a set of bleachers broke the impact and kept the fuselage from plowing into the shop. it was pretty crowded inside at the time. the pilot had minor cuts to the hand, but otherwise is okay. >> if you have information about a mass shooting at an illegal sideshow in oakland yesterday morning, police want to hear from you. it happened on fruitvale avenue and macarthur boulevard just before 3:45 a.m. during the sideshow, five people were shot. their conditions have not been released, but all are

degrees out there right now in the east bay. southwest wind at about five miles per hour. looking at the travel forecast today, we do have this heat dome encompassing salt lake vegas, phoenix, where temperatures, especially in vegas, well above 100 degrees today it is warm in la as well. get to about 91 now across the midwest. right now at chicago o'hare, we do have a ground stop because of thunderstorms. we expect more thunderstorms throughout the afternoon, so we could have some issues there. no issues in texas, just hot approaching 100 degrees in dallas. of course you will have some issues today. delays already in effect around florida airports because of hurricane debby making landfall. if you're trying to travel to the east coast, the past couple of days, it has been a mess because of storms. today, though, it's a different picture across the northeast, we'll have calmer weather, but it will be warm in new york city, coming in at 90 degrees. back here at home, it's all about increasing sunshine today, mid 90s inland, around the bay shoreline. it's very foggy this morning, but a bright afternoon we'll go into the mid 70s and then along the

through the delta, and it's just going to keep the coast cool. but inland we will warm up warmer than we were yesterday. so here's a look at your day planner today. the sun is up here in less than 30 minutes, but we have a lot of cloud cover to deal with this morning. that drizzle fog is certainly with us right now into the afternoon it is sunny and again inland. we're back to the mid 90s around the bay shoreline. we're in the 70s along the coast. will be in the low 60s, so highs today about 94 in antioch, 92 in concord, 72 in oakland, 67. in the city with afternoon sunshine. we'll hit about 78. in fremont, 84 in san jose, the same in napa up to 90 in santa rosa. then overnight tonight, we'll find a mix of stars and clouds out there, not expecting as much drizzle as we're seeing this morning, because high pressure is starting to move in here and that will bring warmer weather tomorrow afternoon. in fact, tomorrow is the hottest day this week for that fact. we do have a heat advisory just for a small portion of the area. this affecting the south bay, including san jose and gilroy just for tomorrow. it's a one day spike in our heat where
