several miles, but we know both of the victims that were hit and killed are from san jose. they have not yet been named. >> authorities say the wrong way driver was rushed to the hospital, and it's unclear if he's in custody tonight. >> abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez has everything that we know at this moment about the investigation. >> attention, all units in route to this. wrong-way update at 1020 is now southbound 85 at bascom. >> a deadly wrong-way crash is under investigation. authorities say it claimed the lives of two san jose residents, a 47 year old woman and a 14 year old boy. at 340 monday afternoon, the chp received calls of a driver behind the wheel of a toyota tacoma going south in the northbound lanes of state route 85. >> some of the first calls that we had put the pickup truck in the area of 85 and saratoga, which is several miles. >> officers received calls that the pickup had been spotted going the wrong way near saratoga avenue, which is at least seven miles from the crash

site. the chp says the pickup then collided head on with a white tesla suv. the impact of the crash was clear. >> you believe the tesla was traveling at freeway speeds, so we can say, you know, at least 60 miles an hour. >> officials tell us the pickup had florida license plates. the driver is a 39 year old man who suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital. the reason he was going the wrong way is being investigated. >> we could have a situation, a case where we have some level or type of impairment. as i said at this point, we can't say that's undetermined. in in this specific case, whether impairment is playing a role in this particular crash. >> for hours, the chp diverted traffic to northbound 87. the freeway reopened around eight monday evening. the chp is asking for anyone who saw what happened to call in. >> we're going to have to wait until we are able to complete some more investigation on this specific crash before we can say

why this driver was driving the wrong way. >> in san jose. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> in the east bay, police are searching for a driver who hit a child in a stroller and then took off. the child went to the hospital, but thank goodness is going to be okay. now, this crash happened in berkeley shortly after 8:00 this morning. it was near dover street and alcatraz avenue, a couple blocks south of the ashby bart station. if you know the area. police say someone was pushing the stroller when the crash happened. the driver took off going south on dover street. neighbors tell us they heard the whole thing. >> i heard a crash. i heard a scream. i heard baby cries. and i looked out and i saw the stroller in the on the ground. in the street. >> police say the driver is a man, but they don't have any other details about him or his car. again, the child who was hit is expected to be okay. >> if you heard the sound of loud dirt bikes over the weekend

in san francisco, maybe oakland or along the bay bridge, you are not alone. >> not by a long shot. there were several scenes of just chaos on the streets as people on dirt bikes raced through the city. it's loud and dangerous driving, and it's making people angry who live in the area, saying it's just a symptom of a bigger problem. >> it's just terror in a community, and they have power because nobody's doing anything about it. >> abc seven news reporter j.r stone looks at what the city is trying to do about it, and how well it's working. >> san francisco's embarcadero was loud on sunday afternoon, some motorcycles and a lot of dirt bikes, which chp says are illegal to ride on highways and city streets without certain modifications. >> they're going down the bike paths. they're all over the place. and i kept thinking, what if somebody stops, you know, or a bike stops or doesn't see him? >> and while that woman who asked that we not use her name

saw these motorbikes in this area near the ferry building, the dirt bikes were in many areas. sunday, the western span of the bay bridge and the eastern span to even cruising through traffic when things got busy and doing wheelies when they weren't. those we spoke with are not happy about this. yeah, i think it's really dangerous. >> they run a lot of red lights and they are riding in the bike lanes, so i think it's really dangerous for pedestrians as well as just people driving and in their cars. i know some people have gotten hurt already so far from them, but the california highway patrol and the san francisco police department tell me they are investigating these cases and others. >> on july 26th, sfpd used a drone to keep an eye on two riders who they then witnessed breaking into cars. they made an arrest and seized the vehicles sunday. hundreds of dirt bikes flooded some intersections in san francisco and did the same on the bay bridge. no arrests were made and no vehicles seized, although chp did pursue

at least two riders but were unsuccessful in catching them. witnesses say the two riding these dirt bikes got off those bikes and got on someone else's dirt bike to get away. >> they'll keep doing it unless the car or the bike goes away and they have consequences to follow. and it's not a culture. it's not cool. you know, being in a community is cool. i get why they want to ride bikes together, but coming into a city and specifically terrorizing because you know, you can it should not be legal. >> you know, that witness believes that city officials have made improvements to tackling crime in san francisco, but believes this issue is a black eye for the city. j.r stone, abc seven news. >> let's take things outside for more on our weather as we take a live look out from our emeryville camera tonight. the end of august will be a bit toasty. let's bring in abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel, who is tracking everything to know in the 24 hour accuweather forecast. sandhya. yeah, it is definitely
