drinks blend new flavors, their shop does, too. the vibe is part palestine, part california. >> we're very outspokenly palestinian, you know, we're very proud of our heritage. you know, we're also very proud of being californian. we have one of the coolest cultures, in my opinion, in the world. you know what i mean? with surfing, even the music behind me playing historic beach boys. right. i've been dying to get here. >> they just opened in june. business is booming, but just as they're trying to build their brand, their free palestine sign was vandalized. now, a total of four times in just two months. most recently, the person added the word. >> now, to me, that's a little uh- lewd in my opinion. it's just not nice to have even. okay, like even if you wanted to affect the palestinians. what about kids that walk across and see the word? as a company, we just stand against hate and violence. >> they believe it's the same person after the fourth incident, they reported it to police with concerns it could escalate. in a statement to abc seven news, berkeley police say the department is investigating the vandalism as a hate crime

and it's still under investigation. nour says they expected they would face some backlash when they open, but he says the outpouring of support from the community has been tremendous. he says they're not mad, but they do want to stand up for their rights. >> we aren't doing anything wrong. we thank the community, one and two, that we stand against hate and we won't. we won't stop talking about palestine and we won't stop talking about what's going on in berkeley, anser hassan. >> abc seven news. >> been following this story on the shooting of forty-niners rookie ricky pearsall. and today he was back on the field. take a look. he wasn't actually dressed to practice, but you can see him there in the gray shirt and sweats football in hand at the practice field today. the coaching staff and teammates have said he has been around the team santa clara facility with little downtime since the shooting. it's only been five days since he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in san francisco's union square. this is video of him being walked to the ambulance in the moments after the shooting. his teammates and coaches say they are glad he's back.

>> the rookie situation. thank god that he's even alive with us today. i mean, that was an insane situation, so happy that he's back here around the building with us. >> it's kind of been amazing just watching him, getting to see him. sunday. monday, for him to be able to walk around and stuff with that happening, you know, talking to the people at the er, you know, saying out of like 100 people, two people have survived that. and to be able to see him the next day and just he's able to walk, he's coming to meetings, he's doing all that. but, you know, he wants to go a little a while. you know, a week or so without trying to work up a sweat. and then after that, he'll start his rehab and, progress to get back. >> it's insane, really. the rookie wide receiver will miss at least the first four games. as for the 17 year old accused of shooting him, that teenager is in custody and scheduled to be back in juvenile court on tuesday for a pretrial conference. he's charged with attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and attempted second degree robbery. san francisco's district attorney told us it will be at least two weeks before she

decides if she will try to prosecute him as an adult, but ultimately, it will be up to a judge to decide if the case is moved out of the juvenile system. >> oakland leaders announced today an upgrade to the city's flawed 9-1-1 system. it's the first time it's been updated in 20 years. the improvements include a modern software system that's fully hosted on the cloud. every part of the electronics that go into the system got upgraded to. mayor sheng tao says this will improve emergency response times. she says the goal is to meet the state standard of 97% of calls being answered in 15 seconds or less. >> we've taken huge steps towards implementing reliable, secure, resilient infrastructure that our public safety agencies can use to continue delivering the high levels of service that the city of oakland residents want and deserve. >> the new system was heavily vetted after the city's massive 2023 data leak. personal data was exposed and city services were taken offline during that

incident that we reported on extensively. >> your p-g-and-e's bill could jump another $6 per month before the end of the year. california regulators are scheduled to vote next week to allow the utility to recoup expenses from a series of winter storms. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard says the utility watchdog groups are fighting the increase, saying ratepayers have had enough. >> the price of natural gas rose in september, about $5.78 more on an average p-g-and-e's bill. the utility says a decrease in demand for gas is the reason. what do we want? fair rates. for months, utility watchdogs have been calling for fair utility rates. but next week, the california public utilities commission could grant p-g-and-e's yet another electricity rate increase. 2.7%. about $6 more on an average monthly bill. no limits to how much the public utilities commission can read in a rate hike. >> this is why turn has been fighting for a cap on increases.

no more than the cost of living adjustment provided by social security. >> turn the utility reform network, says p-g-and-e's, has been granted too many hikes this year alone. >> we're looking at the fourth rate hike in 2024 alone, and every rate hike is just the tip of the iceberg. and every hike stacked on top of each other. >> p-g-and-e's says the rate increase is needed to recoup electricity expenses paid during winter storms, which brought widespread power outages. according to p-g-and-e's data, residential utility rates have increased 54% since 2020, when the utility exited bankruptcy. >> anytime there's an increase to the cost of living, we know it will disproportionately impact our communities of color. low income communities, elderly communities. >> aaron hawkins says community action marin is concerned about another proposed p-g-and-e's rate hike. the nonprofit connects individuals and

communities. here's a live view right now from our east bay hills camera. look at the view. it is filled with sun and concord. right now is sitting at 99 degrees. you can see that the wind is pretty much light about ten miles an hour over 30 degrees cooler at sfo, where it is 67 degrees right now. but you do have a bit of a breeze. here are some of the other temperatures at this hour in the low 90s from san jose to fremont, 99. in livermore in the north bay, you are looking at 91. in santa rosa, 94 degrees in sonoma. that heat advisory until 8 p.m. tomorrow. there is a risk of heat related illnesses. temperatures in the mid 90s to the mid 100 seconds. if it makes you feel any better, we're not alone in this heat. look at the temperatures right now. palm springs 118 degrees. yeah, i know it's the desert. you expect it? but it's hot in fresno. sacramento all the way up to redding. we have triple digit heat right now. so this is much of the western united states. i'll be back to let you know when we will get cooler weather

coming. our way in just a few minutes. >> all right. thank you. sandy. we'll check back. oakland business owners are pushing back against a plan to turn jack london inn into a homeless shelter. former oakland police chief and current city council candidate leronne armstrong led a news conference today. he and business owners in and around jack london square say oakland didn't consult the community before making this plan. their concerned housing the homeless at jack london inn will drive away business. the hotel has housed homeless people nightly since the pandemic. they say they're willing to work with oakland to find other locations. >> building a better bay area san jose mayor matt mehan unveiled the location of the city's first planned safe sleeping site. it's located on east taylor street near coyote creek and watson park. the location was selected from eight potential sites. officials say if it continues to be a suitable space, it would open in early 2025. >> the goal is to get people into a managed environment with basic services, give them an opportunity to start to turn their lives around and in the

sheriff, the 14 year old said i did it while being questioned. the father's charges are related to letting his son have a weapon. he told investigators he bought the ar 15 style rifle used in the shooting as a holiday gift for his son. the father faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of second degree murder in the case. >> new details in the fatal crash and multi-car pileup last week in santa rosa. the chp is saying the driver of a peterbilt dump truck was going at least 50mph at the time when they slammed into stop traffic speed limit. there is 55. it happened on highway 12 near the fulton road intersection just before noon last thursday. 78 year old pat lafortune was killed. he was a teacher and coach for decades at santa rosa's cardinal newman high school. beloved by his community. the truck driver hasn't been charged yet, and the investigation is ongoing. >> the san francisco giants are teaming up with local families and the city health department to save lives from overdose. the

team taking part in an effort to raise awareness. inviting a father who lost his son to a fentanyl overdose to share his story during today's game. >> two days after his 19th birthday, him and his friends, they were dabbling and he took a percocet, which he thought was a percocet. and it was actually fentanyl and it killed him. his friends left him in the back seat of his car and across the street from his house, and never told anybody. the morning after, nobody knew he was in his car. so that afternoon, someone found him and that's how it was heartbreaking. >> obviously, his family started the lamont myers foundation to educate and distribute narcan. today's game against the arizona diamondbacks also served as a fundraiser to raise awareness of fentanyl poisoning. >> coming up. levi's stadium is getting ready for the start of football season, but don't expect your average wings, nachos and fries. we're going to show you the new concession stand offerings this year. >> and as we take a live look outside right now, check out our

this view. i mean, absolutely beautiful. sunny as we look across the bay. this is why you'll want to come back here just to see this view. we'll just hold on this, okay? i'm running out of time. let's talk about temperatures 101 degrees in fairfield. it is 66. in the city. so we are seeing our summer microclimates, our hot spots have been in the triple digits today. high pressure providing the heat today. that's going to continue tomorrow, which is why we have moderate to major heat risk for our inland areas, not just today, but tomorrow as well. although it shifts east a little bit from our golden gate bridge. camera. you are seeing blue skies tomorrow sizzling inland with those triple digits elevated fire danger for inland areas. and in the hills. and you'll see why in just a moment. the weekend forecast does feature a gradual cooling trend. right now, the winds over the higher terrain not terribly strong. i mean, they're pretty light 15 miles an hour. atlas peak and 16 at oakland hills. but what is concerning is around this time

of year, we start to see those fuels drying out. we have single digit humidity values in some of our inland areas right now concord 7%, 8% in livermore. so that is keeping our fire danger elevated. we're facing near critical fire danger conditions in our inland areas and our hills. so tonight, moderate to high as we head into tomorrow, that same general area will be in that category. so just keep that in mind and stay aware in case a fire does break out. tonight at 620 we're looking at hot conditions still inland in the 90s 60s coast side. the fog advances later on tonight it will be right near the bay shoreline and along the coast, dense once again in patches. we are looking at a little bit of fog in the morning for the afternoon. plenty of sun away from the coast. you're going to come up into the 90s and 100 seconds inland areas, that is. and along the coast it will remain comfortable. fog in the morning, 50 to 70 tomorrow afternoon you are looking at a nice day in the south bay. 92, in san jose, 99 in morgan hill,
