all across the state. >> abc seven news reporter tara campbell hit the streets and joins us live with what she found. tara. >> yeah, dan and ama. we actually set out ourselves looking for these thc containing products at local grocery stores and corner stores. and while we found plenty of cd baby drinks, we didn't find anything specifically labeled with thc. however, it also didn't always seem entirely clear what other detectable cannabis cannabinoids might be present in these gummy bears. friday, governor gavin newsom introducing emergency regulations banning products containing thc from being sold outside of dispensaries. >> we want these products off the shelf. we want the retailers, the grocers to get them off themselves today. >> officials say the new rules are aimed particularly at protecting children from potentially harmful health effects of intoxicating hemp products. >> i mean, i don't know how you know or realize this is a hemp product, says tune up sparkling water. then you can barely find

that it's thc in there. >> and it's not just thc. the tougher regulations would expand the number of psychoactive cannabinoids that will need to be undetectable in order to be sold outside of dispensaries. >> cdph determining based on science, has added another 30 that go into that undetectable sense. >> and as far as the public's perspective, we spoke with people outside a mill valley grocery store about the potential regulations. >> i think that thc can be really beneficial for people, but as far as like children getting their hands on it, i think that that could be potentially controversial. >> thc, i wasn't aware of that, but definitely has to be regulated and monitored. >> and do you think it should even be in stores that like a grocery store? >> absolutely not. absolutely not. why would why and from parents and grandparents to pet parents. >> this is my child. so i don't have human children, but i sure wouldn't want my children taking in thc without just by chance.

>> but the governor getting some pushback friday from the industry, the u.s. hemp roundtable saying it's exploring legal options. a statement reading in part, newsom has decided to unilaterally destroy countless small businesses and farmers across california. we will not let this stand without a fight. the governor, however, quite clear we don't want to kill the hemp industry. >> we want the hemp industry to be regulated. was intended not for intoxicating products. >> now, these proposed proposed regulations still require approval from california's office of administrative law. if that happens, the rules will go into effect immediately, meaning stores will have to removectthan detectable levels of thc. in the studio tara campbell, abc seven news. >> all right, tara, thank you so much. new tonight at 11. a security guard was stabbed this morning at the walgreens on the corner of montgomery street in san francisco. police say it happened around 930 as the guard

was attempting to stop someone from stealing merchandise from the store. there was a confrontation, and that's when the suspect stabbed the guard and ran off. no arrests have been made, and the guard's injuries are described as non-life threatening. new at 11. federal, state and county agencies are working together to eradicate the mediterranean fruit fly quarantine in alameda county. it's a two part effort. they'll try to prevent the fruit flies from breeding, but they are also implementing a quarantine. the quarantine area covers 71mi■!s within fremont ad newark. people are asked not to move any homegrown fruits or vegetables from their property. the last time there was a fly quarantine in alameda county was 1981. >> port of san francisco engineers have determined pier 54 is structurally unsound, according to the sfgate. the crumbling pier near the chase center will be closed down by the end of the year. the 11 businesses on it must shutter or relocate by then. one of them being float guys, which makes

parade floats for the city's big events. the pier will soon sit unoccupied until the port finds the money to remove it. >> let's take a live look outside tonight. the fog rolled in parts of the bay area are probably wishing they could get in on nature's air conditioning. it has been a summer scorcher. >> boy, it sure has several days of really blistering heat. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with your 24 hour accuweather forecast. so sandhy, some relief this weekend. >> you betcha. dan and we definitely will be getting in on the natural ac. you can see it here on the golden gate bridge. it's a little misty as well, and that's how some of you will start the morning. look at live doppler seven. yeah, the fog rolled back in. it's closing in on the coast. and tomorrow morning, more areas around the bay will wake up to it as well. it was a hot one inland, no doubt about it. 103 in fairfield, 99, in livermore, 97 in concord. but that is all going to change come tomorrow as temperatures scale back the winds have picked up. they're onshore sfo right now, 20 miles an hour. here's a look at your planner tomorrow morning. foggy

and misty for many parts of the bay area, other than the far inland locations, the bay and the inland locations will see the sun at noontime. it's going to be pretty sunny for the afternoon except near the coast, so mid 60s to mid 90s and breezy. certainly cooler than today. we'll bring that fog back in 7:00 in the evening. i'll be back with the full look at the forecast. i'll let you know if temperatures will continue to trend lower heading into next week. anna. >> all right. sandhya, thank you so much. >> the driver arrested for a wrong-way crash that killed a mother and son in the south bay, has been arraigned on murder charges. duncan mccrary could barely be seen behind his attorney. he appeared to be in a wheelchair. during today's hearing in san jose, he's charged with two counts of murder. investigators say mccrary was under the influence, driving more than 100mph in the wrong direction on highway 85. as you saw in that video. dash cam video when his truck smashed into an oncoming car. this was on august 26th. 47 year old rebecca olson and her 14 year

old son, charlie, both died in the collision. >> at one point, the defendant stopped his car and got out and walked around in the middle of the traffic. he then got back into his vehicle and continued to drive the wrong way. >> prosecutors say mccrary is from florida and came to the bay area to visit family less than a week before the crash. he is being held in the santa clara county jail without bail. a house is a total loss after a fire in saratoga. this evening, the residents were away from the house at the time and could not be reached. no injuries, thank goodness firefighters got the flames under control and they estimate more than $1 million in damage to this four bedroom house. the wind posed a challenge in their efforts, but no other buildings were damaged. they are still investigating the cause and also in saratoga, a fire is burning at another home. crews are working to get a handle on a two alarm fire that broke out about 830 tonight on seton avenue near foothill elementary school. a cloud of

smoke is moving through the neighborhood. >> the large wildfire burning in fresno county has now scorched more than 17,000 acres and continues to grow. evacuation orders and road closures remain in place because of the boone fire centered near coalinga. cal fire says the fire has also spread west into monterey county. it's been burning since tuesday afternoon, but no reports of injuries or property damage so far. it's still unclear how this fire got started. firefighters from san francisco and san bruno have traveled to join in this firefight. the disasters expo returned to california. it's a showcase for new technology to keep people safe during things like wildfires and earthquakes. there's everything from a redesigned fire extinguisher to high tech generators. reporter sophie flay, from our sister station in los angeles, has a look at some of the new gadgets and devices, whether it's a wildfire or an earthquake, it's important to be prepared when disaster strikes and at the disasters expo at the convention center in downtown l.a, companies are showing off new gadgets we can use to protect

before talking to your health care professional about wegovy®. his father made their first court appearances today. 14 year old colt gray faces four counts of felony murder. his father, 54 year old colin gray, is charged on multiple counts of second degree murder and manslaughter. he's accused of allowing his son to have access to the ar 15 style rifle used in the shooting. the underage suspect will be tried as an adult. the penalty for the crimes for which you are charged does not include death. sources tell abc news the father gave his then 13 year old son the assault rifle as a christmas gift. that was just months after fbi agents interviewed both of them about a school shooting threat. his son allegedly made online. both the accused shooter and his father are being held without bond. >> your voice, your vote.

preparations underway in philadelphia for next week's presidential debate. the city will host the first in-person debate between vice president kamala harris and donald trump. some traffic detours are already in place outside the national constitution center. that's the venue for tuesday's face off. the excitement can be felt throughout the city from top political officials to everyday philadelphians. >> what better place to ensure that americans get an opportunity to see what two choices are in front of them, other than the birthplace of democracy? >> i feel like having it here is like a good place, because it's just like the hub of where everybody kind of comes togethe. >> vice president kamala harris began preparation for the debate in pittsburgh this week. we're told trump's running mate, j.d. vance, said today that they don't have any formal debate prep sessions planned. he says trump doesn't need it. the presidential debate is five days away. it's scheduled for tuesday night right here on abc seven.

about it. you can you can move on quickly. >> but hey, we're back, the gang is back and you know it's time to just finish business and, you know, finish the job in santa clara. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> and the niners kick off the new season with monday night football against the new york jets at levi's stadium. if you don't have tickets to the game, do not worry. you can watch it right here on abc seven. our coverage starts at 5:00 today, near half moon bay. crowds of people caught a rare glimpse of a humpback whale. it's always remarkable to see. it was swimming around pillar point harbor off the san mateo county coast. sky seven was overhead and had a clear view of the humpback. the marine mammal center says the whale is healthy. experts say it most likely took a wrong turn with an abundance of food in the area. whale watchers are enjoying the spectacle. >> i've been here 20 years. i haven't seen a whale inside the harbor, so it is quite a surprise. i know there are a lot of anchovies out here, and there's been a lot of whales over pacifica, but not here because of the way the bay is.

>> experts are hoping the whale will find its way back into the ocean by midday tomorrow. it has been there since last night. it's pretty remarkable. >> tomorrow will be your final chance to see a legendary band in the bay area. the mare island dock of bay music festival is staging a great lineup, including the headliner, the legendary average white band. the festival on the vallejo waterfront kicks off at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon with a series of musical acts, including the commodores. capping off the day tomorrow evening, one of the most successful soul and funk bands of all time, average white band is celebrating 52 years with its farewell tour. this afternoon i spoke with bassist and founding member alan gordon. do you enjoy playing in the bay area? do you find the audiences very receptive, very receptive? >> they always have been. since the early 70s when we first played for bill graham, bill graham, you know, winterland. that was our first bay area experience. >> you've given us all of your fans just years and years,

low pressure off the northern california coast becomes our main dominating feature. high pressure brought us the scorching heat inland this week, but that is all going to change. so as this low approaches the onshore winds are picking up. we're certainly seeing the marine layer regrouping and it will make its push. right now it is near the coastline as you look at live doppler seven and those temperatures are falling 50s coast side 70s inland. the warmth is still in our inland communities, but don't worry, it's not going to be hot for the oakland pride parade on sunday. our very own julian glover and zach fuentes will be there. it's going to be comfortable start to the day mid 60s at 11 a.m, a little bit of cloud cover at noontime, perfect for the parade. temperatures will come up into the low to mid 70s and there will be plenty of sun around as we look at a live picture from our emeryville camera, there is the fog layer right around salesforce tower as you can see, and the headlines. weekend weather cooling begins tomorrow. overnight, the fog expands. we'll see some patchy drizzle and early to middle part of next week. breezy and even cooler, dropping below average

by wednesday in our inland communities. all right. the niners take on the jets for the season home opener at levi's stadium. kickoff i know it's already football time. 515 monday night. it's going to be 77 degrees. sunny and warm weather. fourth quarter. we're talking mainly clear, upper 60s and breezy, so should be good looking weather as we go hour by hour tomorrow morning. starting out with some areas of fog and a little bit of mist and drizzle as well as we head into 9:00, it's still there, but then clearing begins. other than the coastline, everyone else should be seeing the sun. your morning temperatures will range from the 50s to the 60s. watch out for that fog as we head into the afternoon hours. it's going to be a lovely day in the south bay. 95 degrees in gilroy 86, san jose 82. in sunnyvale and the peninsula area, 78in palo alto, 82 redwood city, mid 60s, right near the coast. downtown san francisco, 70 degrees. daly city. some fog hanging around in summer fashion. mid 60s 85 san rafael in the north bay 87 santa rosa heading into the east bay.
