if you're headed over the bridges. it is just 2 to 3 degrees cooler right now from the san carlos airport to hayward. look at all the fog though. golden gate bridge. so we're foggy at the coast. we become sunny mid to late morning and temperatures still will be on the warm side. upper 80s noontime to the mid 90s inland. but that's down certainly a good five degrees and then along the bay mid 70s to upper 70s. it will stay foggy at the coast and we have further cooling to talk about throughout much of the upcoming workweek. stephanie. >> all right, lisa, thank you. governor gavin newsom is proposing emergency regulations to protect children from dangerous products containing thc. the governor says they're popping up in grocery and corner stores across the state. abc seven news reporter tara campbell breaks down his proposal. >> and these gummy bears friday. >> governor gavin newsom introducing emergency regulations banning products containing thc from being sold outside of dispensaries. >> i want these products off the

shelf. we want the retailers, the grocers to get them off themselves today. >> officials say the new rules are aimed particularly at protecting children from potentially harmful health effects of intoxicating hemp products. >> i mean, i don't know how you know or realize this is a hemp product, says tune up sparkling water and then you can barely find that it's thc in there. >> and it's not just thc. the tougher regulations would expand the number of psychoactive cannabinoids that will need to be undetectable in order to be sold outside of dispensaries. >> cdph determining based on science, has added another 30 that go into that undetectable sense. >> and as far as the public's perspective, we spoke with people outside a mill valley grocery store about the potential regulations. >> i think that thc can be really beneficial for people, but as far as like children getting their hands on it, i think that that could be potentially controversial. >> thc. >> i wasn't aware of that, but

definitely has to be regulated and monitored. >> do you think it should even be in stores that, like a grocery store? >> absolutely not. absolutely not. why would why? >> and from parents and grandparents to pet parents. >> this is my child. so i don't have human children, but i sure wouldn't want my children taking in thc without just by chance. >> but the governor getting some pushback friday from the industry, the u.s. hemp roundtable saying it's exploring legal options. a statement reading in part, newsom has decided to unilaterally destroy countless small businesses and farmers across california. we will not let this stand without a fight. the governor, however, quite clear we don't want to kill the hemp industry. >> we want the hemp industry to be regulated. was intended not for intoxicating products. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> the proposed regulations still require approval from the california office of administrative law. now if that

happens, the rules will go into effect immediately. that means stores will have to remove any consumable products containing any level of thc. in san francisco, a security guard is recovering after he was stabbed at a walgreens friday morning. it happened on the corner of montgomery street. police say the guard was trying to stop someone from stealing items from the store. there was a confrontation, and that's when the suspect stabbed the guard and ran off. no arrests have been made. the guard's injuries are described as non-life threatening. now to the murder case of a prominent tech executive. prosecutors say he stabbed and killed the cash app founder in april of last year. now, the defense says the victi, bob lee, was the aggressor. abc seven news i-team reporter melanie woodrow has covered this case from the beginning and has the very latest. the defense attorney revealing his defense strategy ahead of the bob lee murder trial. >> when everything is put together, it's going to be a

clear sign for the jury to understand unequivocally that this case was a case of self-defense. >> some, zanganeh says it's likely momenti will testify. >> i think that it would be a good bet to consider that mr. mulvaney will kind of educate the jury as to exactly what transpired. >> momeni is accused of stabbing lee in san francisco's soma neighborhood during the early morning hours of april 4th. prosecutors have suggested mohini's sister was at the center of a confrontation between momeni and lee, who were seen together, leaving hussam balwani's apartment building prior to the stabbing. charging documents included a text momani sent lee stating in part, i know nima came way down hard on you and thanking lee for handling it with class. as for whether she will take the stand. >> i think that she's an important witness to educate people on certain aspects, but it's a game time decision. >> prosecutors have said the knife used to stab lee came from hussar's apartment. >> i don't think there's any evidence to suggest that nima took it. and i think that there's substantial evidence that we have to suggest that bob lee brought it with him.

>> zanganeh also argues if momeni were guilty, he wouldn't have thrown the knife so close to the scene. legal analyst steven clark says the drugs found in bob lee's system are likely to play an active role in the defense's strategy. >> mr. momeni will likely say that mr. lee was acting irrationally and erratic, and aggressively, and that's why he took the actions that he did. >> by text, bob lee's ex-wife told abc seven news, quote, i find it absurd that the defense is trying to redirect and accuse bob of acting violent or erratic. >> if this case is reduced to voluntary manslaughter, that will greatly reduce the sentence he's exposed to. >> zanganeh says the defense is not asking for a reduced charge. >> there's only one verdict that a reasonable jury could come up with, and that's a that's a verdict of not guilty. >> in san francisco, for the iteam melanie woodrow, abc seven news. in the south bay, the driver arrested for a wrong-way crash that killed a mom and son has been arraigned on murder charges. duncan mcquarrie could

barely be seen behind his attorney here. he appeared to be in a wheelchair during yesterday's hearing in san jose. he's charged with two counts of murder. investigators say mcquarrie was under the influence at the time. he was reportedly driving over 100mph in the wrong direction on highway 85 when his truck smashed into an oncoming car on august 26th. 47 year old rebecca olson and her 14 year old son charlie, both died in this collision. >> at one point, the defendant stopped his car and got out and walked around in the middle of the traffic. he then got back into his vehicle and continued to drive the wrong way. >> prosecutors say mcquarrie is from florida. he came to the bay area to visit family less than a week before that crash. he is now being held in the santa clara county jail without bail. the oakland police department will not emerge from federal oversight just yet. after a ruling from a judge. judge william orrick ordered the

department to restructure its organizational chart. that way, the internal affairs division reports directly to the police chief. the oversight stems from the 2003 riders case, when four officers were accused of brutalizing people in west oakland. civil rights attorney john burris was one of the original attorneys on that case. >> i think he basically says that we can't do the same old thing and expect a different result. we got to try something different, and i want to i'm going to take better control over this and hold people more accountable, and particularly the police chief. >> the judge ordered police chief floyd mitchell must have meetings to update the mayor, the city and the federal monitoring team every two weeks. the next status conference on opioids for federal oversight is set for january. dublin police have arrested two people they say were involved in an assault on a teen at dublin high school last month. an 18 year former student and a 17 year old. the

two are related to a mom and daughter also involved in this incident. and police say the mom and daughter confronted that victim regarding some recent conflicts, but they were not involved in the actual attack. police are still searching for more suspects. well, have you noticed more flies in your house? this summer? federal, state and county agencies are working to eradicate the mediterranean fruit fly in alameda county. it's a two part effort. they'll try to prevent the fruit flies from breeding, but they're also implementing a quarantine. now, the quarantine area covers over 70mi■!s within fremont and newark. people are asked not to move any homegrown fruits or vegetables from their property. the last time there was a fly quarantine in alameda county was back in 1981. a house is a total loss after a fire in saratoga last night. no injuries were reported, but this new video just in. fire crews got the flames under control. they estimate more than $1 million in

damages to the four bedroom house. the wind posed a challenge in their efforts, but no other buildings were damaged. they're still investigating the cause. the large wildfire burning in fresno county has now scorched more than 17,000 acres and continues to grow this morning. evacuation orders and road closures remain in place because of the boone fire centered near coalinga. cal fire says the fire has also spread west into monterey county. it's been burning since tuesday. there are no reports of any injuries or property damage so far, and it's still unclear how this fire started. well, the disasters expo is back in california. it's a showcase for new technology to keep people safe during emergencies like wildfires and earthquakes. the la convention center was packed with new gadgets meant to improve safety. highlights of the convention included new tools like i fire detection software and a redesigned fire

extinguisher. it's the first complete redesign of the fire extinguisher in 75 years. >> you can actually reload them. recharge them yourself. military. the dod, the army, army reserve, boeing. >> there were also refugee chambers for underground emergencies and updated surveillance drones. one vendor showcased new updates to the well-known tool, the jackery. it can recharge led lights and keep you powered up in case of power outages or when you're out camping. all right. to weather. now let's check in with lisa. >> all right. good morning. we are looking at some foggy conditions around san francisco, but our roof camera looks pretty good. temperatures in the mid 50s. visibility reduced closer to the shoreline. and we do have some cooling. today it's not going to be big time. and we're not going to see temperatures drop off 10 or 15 degrees, but more like five. i have all the

type of crisis. >> this new tradition is being set on september 8th in an effort to help more people. last year, they expanded services for spanish speakers, lgbtq youth, and for those who are deaf and hearing impaired. again, that number to call is 988. and for local resources to help mental health, you can head to our website abc7 news.com slash. take action. port of san francisco engineers have determined pier 54 is structurally unsound. according to sfgate, the crumbling pier near the chase center will be closed down by the end of the year. the 11 businesses on it must shutter or relocate by then. float guys is one of those businesses making parade floats for the city's big events. now the pier will soon sit unoccupied until the port finds the funds to remove it. well, football season is upon us. and now there's a new way to get

to just finish business and, you know, finish the job. >> in santa clara lauren martinez, abc seven news. again, the niners kick off the new season with monday night football right here on abc seven against the new york jets at levi's stadium. if you don't have tickets to the game, don't worry, you can again watch it right here. our coverage will start at 5:00 in the sonoma valley. extreme heat is keeping grape growers on their toes. harvest is in full swing in wine country, and the hot weather is adding an extra layer of concern about picking. growers say they have to get the grapes off the vine before heat can damage the fruit. the biggest concerns are dehydration and over ripening. when it gets hot, the grapevine shuts down. >> so if you get over probably 92 degrees that wants to go to sleep. so what you need to do is you need to be know what the weather is in advance. and so we go in and we irrigate and we hydrate the vine overnight friday. >> vineyard workers picked about

seven tons of grapes. harvest season for different varietals is expected to last through october, but this weekend we get a bit of a break. let's check in with lisa. how's it looking, stephanie? >> it is going to be still warm inland. we saw 98 in concord yesterday. napa was 97 and some 90s in the south bay, so we will cool off a few degrees, but even more so as we get going through the workweek. as a trough after trough visits, the pacific northwest, our coolest days tuesday and wednesday. but as for today, we already have that mist and drizzle at the shoreline. current numbers, though, are quite mild inland, it is 67. in danville, upper 50s in oakland. it was 80 yesterday in oakland, 70 in san francisco. so not so much from the city to oakland. but the cool down will be inland. we had mid 80s in hayward, so cooler for you. but visibility this morning reduced due to that fog a quarter mile up in santa rosa. just over two miles here, half moon bay. so

certainly getting the idea and the foggy picture there from our exploratorium camera that the cooling is getting going by about five degrees today. and then overnight tonight that fog expands. we'll see more patchy drizzle. and that will allow for slightly cooler weather again on sunday. but as we get into the early part of next week, mainly tuesday and wednesday, even midweek, we'll see some of our coolest readings with those breezy winds, that fog mixing out altogether, probably by about midweek. here's a look at the low clouds, the fog and that drizzle as we go through the morning hours. some high clouds here, 1:00 in the north bay, but otherwise we are mostly sunny. and then that fog pulls back to the shoreline, makes a further push inland into sunday. and then we'll look at another nice sunny afternoon. but temperatures are going to take a while to cool off. we're going to see the relative humidity still kind of increased overnight, but still dry in the upper levels of the atmosphere. here's monday, we still have some mid 90s inland looking at

91 in concord. so that's another two three degrees of cooling mid 70s in oakland. and looking at the coast here, still on the mild side in the 60s. but look at tuesday. this should be your coolest day with high temperatures just in the lower 80s inland and looking at those low 70s around the bay, by the time we get to the middle of the week on wednesday, notice that we'll see the temperatures come up a few degrees. but overall, these two days it will feel like fall. and then we're looking at a slight warm up. so if you're a fan of the cooler weather, it's going to take a little time to get here. we're getting there today with high temperatures from the low to mid 90s inland, so that's an improvement of about five degrees from concord today at 9394 in livermore, 76 in oakland, four degrees cooler for you. little change in the city 85 san rafael with 87 santa rosa and 86 in san jose. the accuweather seven day forecast. so heat relief by about five degrees today inland and holding steady for your sunday. mild to warm day on monday and much

the number of added jobs did not meet expectations. the bureau of labor statistics reports the u.s. economy added 142,000 jobs last month. while hiring is slowing down, the unemployment rate dropped to 4.2%. the biden administration saying the jobs report shows the economy is steadily growing and stable. >> what we've seen by all indicators is that sort of soft landing that everyone you know, is that is that going to be possible? you know, we think about it as reaching our cruising altitude. >> wage growth continues to surpass inflation. this likely means the federal reserve will cut interest rates come mid september. analysts believe at this point, a recession is unlikely. still to come on abc seven mornings. the work to clean up the great pacific garbage patch. the progress made after six years and the former president gets a break in court. a judge now agreeing to delay his

touchdown. starliner is back on earth now at 530. >> boeing's starliner returns home without though the two u.s. astronauts. nasa is celebrating the homecoming overnight, despite those technical troubles. we'll have more on that in just a moment. good morning, everybody. thank you for joining us this half hour. lisa is here with a look at your weekend forecast. so a bit cool down. not a dramatic cool down right. >> we're still going to see those 90s inland. but instead of upper 90s more like low to mid 90s. so that is some improvement there. right now it is 64 in san jose, 54 at sfo. low clouds and fog hugging the coast, moving into the bay. mist and drizzle along the shoreline. maybe wipers needed out there. it is 50 in novato this morning with 54 in sonoma. and there's your fog half mile visibility. santa

rosa with just over two miles half moon bay. so 24 hours ago we were warmer. we're just a few degrees cooler now, and as we look at the 9:00 forecast, we still have clouds around hayward and oakland with low 60s. and as we get into about 11:00, some high clouds in the north bay, but mild 60s there mid and upper 70s inland and by the afternoon a return to some 90s. but at least there lower 90s in livermore. and we'll see those mid 80s in san jose. temperatures slightly cooler for your sunday, perhaps by a degree or two. more dramatic cooling into next week. steph, all right lisa thank you. >> new this morning. boeing's starliner is back home on earth but without the astronauts it left to space with the starliner landed in new mexico while you were sleeping. the capsule has been stuck in space for three months after it experienced several technical problems. at 12:01 a.m, the capsule touched down. nasa officials called the landing a success. despite those

technical setbacks. >> it was a great day today to return starliner. it was great to have a successful undocked deorbit and landing of the vehicle. we're really excited to have calypso back on the ground. >> starliner's original crew of butch wilmore and suni williams prepped the capsule for return. they remain at the international space station. the two astronauts are scheduled to return to earth in early 2025. they will be picked up by a spacex vessel. new developments. students at apalachee high school in georgia will not return to school tuesday, when other schools in the country and the county rather returned to class. that's where a gunman shot and killed two students and two teachers earlier this week. hundreds of people gathered last night for a vigil on campus. state senator raphael warnock and other local officials spoke at the makeshift memorial. and this morning we're learning from a 14 year old student who said

he took cover when he heard gunshots. that's when he realized he was bleeding. >> when they shot the first the first bullet, i went straight down to under my desk to cover myself. then the shooter had shot, like, around 4 to 6, i think, and it went to the other classroom. after he went to the other classroom, i asked him, i stand up quickly, then went to go close the door for couldn't come back. >> the teenager accused of the shooting and his father made their first appearances in court yesterday. 14 year old colt gray faces four counts of felony murder and his father, 54 year old colin gray, is charged on multiple counts of second degree murder and manslaughter. he's accused of allowing his son to have access to the ar 15 style rifle used in the shooting. the underage suspect will be tried as an adult. the judge and

former president donald trump's criminal hush money case delayed his sentencing on friday. abc news reporter derrick dennis tells us when trump could face potential consequences. >> the judge in donald trump's hush money trial giving a big break to the former president friday by agreeing to delay his sentencing until after the election. trump was convicted in may of 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to star stormy daniels. he was set to be sentenced on september 18th. judge juan merchan, now moving the hearing to november 26th to avoid any appearance, however unwarranted, that the proceeding has been affected by or seeks to affect the approaching presidential election in which the defendant is a candidate. trump's democratic opponent, vice president kamala harris, securing a win of her own with a big endorsement. dick cheney, george w bush's vice president, declaring he will vote for harris in november. the announcement, made by his

collection of trash and debris floating around the ocean. finding a solution for a massive amount of waste is challenging by itself, but the ocean environment adds extra obstacles. >> you have big waves and you have a harsh environment. and to build something that actually surviving out there while at the same time only make sure you catch plastic and not marine life. that was quite a challenge. >> the company says it has a solution, but it needs between 4 and $7.5 billion to make it happen. the tech includes netting, cameras and computers powered by ai. once trash is pulled and sorted, the company recycles it into new products. well, it's now easier than ever to visit one of san francisco's gems. muni riders can take the bus to a brand new stop, getting them further inside the presidio. sfmta extended their muni 30 line to now end off of mason street. muni has been planning on establishing the new line to help give more people access to the area.

not to allow p-g-and-e's to recoup expenses paid during a series of winter storms. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard says watchdog groups are putting up a fight. >> the price of natural gas rose in september, about $5.78 more on an average p-g-and-e's bill. the utility says a decrease in demand for gas is the reason. what do we want? fair rates. for months, utility watchdogs have been calling for fair utility rates. but next week, the california public utilities commission could grant p-g-and-e's yet another electricity rate increase. 2.7%. about $6 more on an average monthly bill. no limits to how much the public utilities commission can read in a rate hike. >> this is why turn has been fighting for a cap on increases. no more than the cost of living adjustment provided by social security. >> turn the utility reform network says p-g-and-e's, has

inland. there's a look at the visibility reduced to a half mile. santa rosa four miles. there half moon bay. and so as we look outside, you can see that the buildings, they're shrouded in fog, the cooling begins today. overnight, that fog expands. more mist and drizzle out there. and then looking at that burning back to bring us some sunshine, even along the coast today, tomorrow for a limited time. and then as we get into the middle part of next week, tuesday, wednesday, our coolest days. tuesday temperatures will be coming way down below average. it's temporary though, as we look at the fog here. notice not only do we have the low clouds, a few high clouds beginning to hang around for parts of the mid to late morning hours in the north bay, but then they pull back and notice we do get into a little bit of clearing there right around the city, but it's not going to last too long. the fog comes back and then it moves across the bay, but each and every day it pulls back. in fact, as we get into the cooler and cooler weather, getting into
