>> reporter: this is striking from the latest "new york times" poll, trump was leading by one point, a third of voters overall, 28% said they need to learn more about kamala harris and her positions before deciding to vote, compared to 1 in 10, 9% say the same about donald trump and another important point, in the same polling, we see that almost half of americans consider kamala harris to be "too liberal", in her positions, less than a third of americans say the same about donald trump on the other side, that he's too conservative, and the polling suggests people want to see a sharp break from the biden administration, making for challenges for harris going into tomorrow night, she has to define her positions and potentially define how she moderated her positions and broken from biden, even though she serves as his vice president, a lot to get done in one night and beyond, george. >> george: thank you, rick, and right here, the debate will air on abc, 8 p.m. >>

hour southeast of lexington. >> shot through the windshield. >> reporter: police describing a terrifying afternoon. just after 5:30 p.m., a sniper perched in the woods firing 20-30 shots, hitting 12 vehicles. >> all of a sudden we heard a loud, deafening sound, my right ear started ringing, we didn't know what the sound was, and we looked at each other and said, was that a gunshot. >> it was chaotic, when our units arrived on the scene, cars on the side of the road, emergency flashers, windows shot out, people hurt severely. >> reporter: five people wounded by gun, significant injuries but with no fatalities. >> one was shot in the face, one in the arm, severe injuries. >> the suspect is identified as the 32-year-old joseph couch, hiding in a wooded area, and they recovered the vehicle associated with him, and an assault style rifle,

surrounded by police hours before the game. the officer orders the wide receiver out of his black sportscar. this video shows hill, lying face down on the ground, police handcuffed the 30-year-old pro-bowler before sitting him up. they took hill to the ground, and the miami-dade pd, placed one of the officers on administrative leave. saying they will conduct an investigation. >> player: i am still putting it altogether, i won't give you a version, i still don't know what happened. >> reporter: they said hill was pulled over for a traffic incident, briefly detained by the police before being released. >> player: they said i was speeding, but, "they said i was speeding, wreckless driving or whatever". >> reporter: through it all, hill put on a show, catching 7 passes, including an 80 yard touchdown, and celebrated by mimicking being handcuffed

care of other people, a life lesson right there, just sitting in all of the frustration, sadness and the heartbreak. you go from sitting your ass on the couch, to now, i can walk to the bathroom with crutches and then walk in the shoe. those are exciting times. but the mental part takes forever, because you are still trying to get over the frustration, the heartache, and the heartbreak, the what-if, feeling like you let people down, you wonder if you can go out and do it, until you have done it. training camp, it was one of the better camps i have had, and every day, i told one of the coaches, every day i have to remind myself i am great and i can do this, it's been a couple of years since i played a full game. >> reporter: aaron rodgers says he's grateful for the experience. >> player: it was a total reset for my life, in the moment you don't think about it, "everything happens for a reason", i am like "really >>", but i do believe if you can't get out of your own way,

semifinal. >> robin: i thought pagula, would pull it out. >> guest: she never gives up, i respect her as a competitor. >> robin: i respect her, as well. >> guest: we know about with that. >> robin: do you miss it? >> guest: i haven't played since march, i have been doing other things like writing this book, i have been busy, but it's good to have different things in life that make you appreciate the other parts. >> robin: what i love about your book, many aspects of it, you don't have to be a pro athlete to be able to get something out of it. and, the 8 principles that you really ... like, we can apply to many areas of our lives. talk about that. >> guest: i wanted to share everything i have learned. i have been playing tennis 30 years and, how i applied the lessons i learned on the court, what you learn about life on the court, being resilient, how to look at yourself, managing

relationships with your team and within, you know, other parts of your life, so you can play well on the court, i wanted to put it in words in the book. this part of my life, i want to share what i have learned so far, and you want to give out the information, you are like "i have the answers let me tell you" (i don't have all of the answers) but indeed i have shared the mistakes i have made in the book. i want people to be well. wellness is not just what you eat, but how you think, it's how you treat yourself, how you treat the others around you, and how you move your body. it's all of these different things, and i don't want wellness to be in a box. and, really looking at your whole life, how can you be well in your whole life. that's what strive is about, the 8 steps. it sounds like too many, but it's not, 8 steps to mind your awesome, and be your best. it doesn't have to be hard. >> robin: is doesn't have to be. because you said the three

"es". >> guest: it's gotta be enjoyable, and easy, and exciting. oh, my gosh, how do you become great or live your dreams people ask, but with it doesn't have to be hard, if it's hard, it's not fun, when it's not fun and you hate it it doesn't last long. you know, i have been watching you for years too, you have worked extremely hard, first as an athlete and now here, and it's always been enjoyable, you see how you enjoy it; when you do that it's something you can do forever. >> robin: i appreciate that very much, when reading the book, and just the way you apply it in different areas, you are vulnerable, you talked about failure is part of the process. >> guest: failure and a moment in time, teaching you what you should or shouldn't do. the bad thing about failure is

if you keep failing the same way. fail another way, get out of your comfort zone, take risks and live your life. so that's the best part. once you re-frame that, one of my biggest failures was down the street at the u.s. open, a long time ago, 19, i was just a kid, 1999. that failure fueled me as a kid, to finally become the champion i wanted to be. it was just a moment, literally. you can't take it to heart. >> robin: 7 grand slam titles later, you know, four gold medals and all of that; and then there's your autoimmune disorder diagnosis, how did that ... propel you in writing this book, as well? what is it you wanted to share about? >> guest: i was diagnosed with showith grun's syndrome -- shogrun's syndrome in 2011, we had a chance to talk about it. >> robin: i remember. >> guest: it was a whole other thing for me, right? i spent my whole life pushing myself, if you work hard enough you get what you want,

but guess can what? all of that's out the window. i had to learn to overcome fear, there's so much fear when you don't know what you can achieve, it's out of your control, how do you handle fear and reframe it? how do you think about with what you can achieve and not what you can't? there were things i couldn't do. and not focusog that, but focusing on what i could contribute that day. not focusing on that it's a day-by-day thing, reminding myself of this every day, i think it made me stronger and better, and you know, opened new ways of thinking for me. it's kinda like, we don't ask for less challenges we ask for me skills. >> robin: oh, say that again. i love that. >> guest: i got that from my teacher in dance class, i took hip-hop. he said, we challenges we want more skills. >> robin: what do you want someone picking up the book, strive, what do you want them

to come away with? >> guest: i love people being well, to see the people around you that you love or people you don't know, if you see them suffering mentally, physically, emotionally, especially when there are decisions you could make to prevent that. i want to see people thrive! and, that's my biggest goal. and, to, you know, someone to come up to me >> say, i applied the three "es", i appreciated something in my life, that's one of the 10ents of strive -- 10a tenaments of strive. to observe yourself, balance your life, take those steps and apply it in small ways until it becomes second nature. you are just doing it. >> robin: is -- it's really like a handbook, you are stressing 8, that can seem intimdating, but the way you break it down is brilliant. >> guest: thank you so much. >> robin: i have known you

with to coaching? >> guest: he's too good of a coach to not be volve involved. he's studying the film of everybody, and insightful, when he talks about anything related to football, everybody listens. because ... it's gonna be, you know, something that you will learn. you will learn something new, he knows the game so well on both sides of the ball. his passion, is still there, his drive and his knowledge, so, i think he will definitely get back in the game, and be a great coach again. >> rebecca: there will be a lot of eyes on tonight's game, aaron rodgers is back on the field for the jets versus the 49ers. what ruexpecting? -- are you expecting? >> guest: it should be a great game, the 49ers were in the superbowl last year, the jets that want to get to the superbowl this year, they think they can do that with the healthy aaron rodgers. we had him last year in the first monday night game of the season, did not go well for the jets and aaron rodgers; only 4 plays and then the

injury. he's excited to get back, team's excited. and they feel they can be an explosive offense, to go with their already really strong defense. so, hey, i am excited to see him also, i want to see him out there in the jets offense, and the weapons he has, and hopefully aaron rodgers stays healthy and performs at the level he expects to. >> george: two big rule changes in the nfl, walk us through what they are and what they mean: >> guest: so one is the hip tackle. that's a way of tackling where you kinda, you know, go from behind, you leave your feet, you wrap around and land on the back of the runner's legs. and it was just creating a lot of injuries. nfl's all about ... you know, we want to keep up the great players on the field, keep them healthy. you can't afford to have a style of tackling or hitting that will create injuries. so, it was just, the numbers show that when you have this type of a tackle, it's a great

chance that a player's gonna get injured. they eliminated that. which is good. and then the kick-off rules. same thing, kinda just trying to prevent injuries, instead of having guys running from 30 yards away, and hitting each other, starting a little closer, where you are not having those great hits right away on every play, and then, you know, a better chance if the ball is returned, to have longer kick offs and returns, there was a kick off returned yesterday for the touchdown, so, um, it's just all the about safety, you still want to create, you know, great plays and opportunities ... but, if there's something that's, you know, not affecting the game, not gonna make it slower, it's not gonna make it less physical or less exciting, but you know, it will keep guys on the field and keep them healthy, that's what it's all about. >> george: sure seli, -- >> george: sure is, thank you for coming on eli. and, a big announcement from the professional women's hockey league, that's on
