look outside. it's actually quite clear over san francisco right now with a live look. we do have some coastal cloud cover out there, but that's about it. we do expect a lot of sunshine today. some chilly spots this morning. good morning sonoma. we're at 48 degrees but much warmer along the east bay shoreline. oakland and hayward coming in in the low 60s. so today inland it's a few degrees warmer than we were yesterday. a lot of sunshine, but be aware the winds pick up gusting over 30mph at times. i wouldn't be surprised if we find winds through our gaps in our valleys closer to 45mph around the bay shoreline, we will see a sunny day, a little bit warmer than yesterday. we'll get you into the mid 70s, but again, that wind will be an issue today. strongest winds will be along the coast. we could see winds 30 to 50mph. daytime highs will get you into the mid 60s. take a closer look at this windy wednesday coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with amanda and see those drive times. >> good morning and welcome back. drew we're going to first start out with a look at our

overall map. you can already see that typical slowdown along the altamont pass. it was made even slower this morning at around 4:00 because of a crash that happened on highway five. but the biggest issue this morning is in san leandro. this is a sigalert that we have to get to. 238 before 880, in the northbound direction. a big rig crashed and flipped onto its side. you can see video right here. so that big rig, as i mentioned it crashed. it flipped onto its side, and then it caught fire. it was blocking the connector ramp to northbound 880, but now only the left lane is blocked. drivers through the area will notice. emergency crews on scene and there is heavy traffic from 580 and a 20 minute delay. an alternate route would be to take 580. let's get back to the desk. >> thank you. amanda. a heated matchup as the first presidential debate between vice president kamala harris and former president donald trump shows just how dramatic that race for the white house has changed. fiery back and forth as the candidates criticized each other's policies. and sometimes it got personal. it was an intense exchange with vp harris

debate, taylor swift gave the endorsement that people have been wondering about for weeks now. in an instagram post, swift said, quote, i will be casting my vote for kamala harris and tim walz in the 2024 presidential election. she called the vp a steady handed, gifted leader, adding, quote, we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. supporters of vp harris at the debate were a mix of surrogates and party line crossovers. that includes anthony scaramucci, who served as former president trump's communications director and governor newsome. the trump campaign invited robert f kennedy jr, along with north dakota governor doug burgum. analysts from both sides had plenty of had plenty to criticize, i should say, from the debate. >> she had no answers on immigration. she had no answers. when she was asked about defunding the police, she laid traps and he chased every rabbit down every hole. >> this is the difference between someone who's, well prepared and someone who's

where a ceremony will get underway this morning. gloria. the fire department does this every year. >> they do reggie aqui. and right now we're in front of fire station five in san francisco. behind me is where that remembrance ceremony will be a little later this morning. and the mayor is among those who is scheduled to be here at the event. and every year, the san francisco fire department has a remembrance ceremony in honor of the emergency responders and civilians who died on september 11th, 2001. and they do this at all of their facilities. this marks the 23rd year since the terrorist attacks on the world trade center, the pentagon and shanksville, pennsylvania. and there were three heroes from the bay area who died during 911, todd beamer and mark bingham of los gatos. they were passengers on united airlines flight 93 who fought back against hijackers, preventing the plane to be used as a weapon, and also flight attendant betty ong from san francisco. she was on board american airlines flight 11. her

brother harry says that betty was able to relay vital information about the hijackers before the plane struck. the world trade center, and later this morning, they will be observing a moment of silence here. they'll also be naming all of the first responders who died during nine over 11. so we'll be live here throughout the morning for that ceremony. live in san francisco. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria. >> 510 this morning we're looking at the forecast today and you will notice abundant sunshine. we're not going to have that cloudy start like we had yesterday morning thanks to some breezy conditions right now. and that tends to mix up. our atmosphere tends to rip apart any fog, but it will be a windy day across the city. you felt those winds yesterday afternoon? probably stronger winds in excess of 30mph today. it is a little bit warmer, 72 degrees for a daytime high 76. in oakland with those winds near 80 in san jose, walnut creek in the mid 80s. but we'll find those winds will be active throughout the afternoon. here's

live doppler seven along with satellite. we're watching this area of low pressure this trough is dipping into northern california over the next 24 hours. its proximity to this high is creating that wind tunnel effect. and that's why we have those breezy winds with us throughout the next 24 to 36 hours. so looking at the wind forecast as we head throughout the day, it's pretty active in spots right now. likely the winds will peak this afternoon between about one and 5 p.m, with those winds in excess of 30mph. so just be prepared for a windy afternoon. it will look nice outside with lots of sunshine. it feels nice, but the winds will be rather strong. mid 70s for the city for oakland, upper 70s for san jose. our warmest spots today going into the mid 80s. 81 in napa 83. the high in santa rosa. >> hi drew. unfortunately it's only 512 and we're already tracking two active sig alerts. we're going to first take you in to san leandro where that big rig fire and crash happened. northbound 238 connector ramp to southbound 880. right now,

illegal street vending is an issue in san francisco, but this incident shows that there are challenges when enforcing, especially with the language barrier and certainly kumasi. >> and while we know public health officials have been working to keep the public safe from foodborne illnesses, it is this video that raises questions about what happens when rules and protocols are lost in translation. now, it happened outside pier 33 alongside san francisco's embarcadero on sunday. hot dog vendor anna louisa kazimir hulka is seen on the ground as police try to detain her, and her five year old daughter is also seen in the video crying out. the port of san francisco says they and city workers conduct regular enforcement of unpermitted vending on port property. sfpd says they were providing security to those workers at the time. officers say they got involved when the vendor allegedly attacked a port employee. she was arrested for assault and delaying an investigation, but she tells abc seven she can no longer vend because of her injuries and her

senior executives, 38% say they participate in full day activity. oh, that's a name for you. however, more than half of the people surveyed say they don't fake activity. all right. workhuman says productivity could be a symptom of poor company culture. >> okay, there's a new trend when it comes to maximizing your sleep. according to health.com, a growing number of people are trying to time their sleep in 90 minute cycles. now, it may sound exhausting on paper, but experts say an average sleep cycle is about 90 minutes and it just repeats over and over. the idea is that if you time your sleep so you wake up at the end of one of those 90 minute cycles, you'll wake up more refreshed. however, most experts say the most important thing is the overall number of minutes you get every night. >> i know when i wake up in the middle of those 90 minutes, your body just feels, oh yeah, it's like you weren't supposed to be up yet.

are blocked. that's why you can see our map reflecting nothing moving over there. then to san leandro, traffic is being diverted from northbound 238 to southbound 880. and we do have some video and we want to show you why this was taken earlier this morning northbound 238 to 880. that connector is closed because this big rig crashed. it flipped onto its side and then it caught fire. things moving at around two miles per hour in this specific area. at one point, the left lane was the only one blocked. but we're learning that has changed. everything is blocked right now as they try to remove these both situations. it's unknown what time those lanes will reopen, so just keep that in mind when you make your way out the door this morning. >> great information amanda in the accuweather forecast. the winds. that will be our big story throughout the day today. it's already quite breezy in many areas, from the city to the east bay through the delta. you can see those winds gusting over

20mph at times, and the winds will just strengthen as we head later into the afternoon. right now, temperatures kind of a mixed bag. we have some lighter winds in the valleys of the north bay. it is chilly this morning in the 40s, but around the bay shoreline we're mainly in the 50s and in the low 60s. so today the winds will be the story. it will be nice looking, lots of sunshine inland, comfortable temperatures in the low and mid 80s, but those winds will gust over 30mph at times. likely some stronger gusts around the bay shoreline. it's a sunny day, a little bit warmer than yesterday, but those winds will be pretty active throughout the afternoon. strongest winds along the coast wouldn't be surprised to find winds closer to 40 45mph. daytime highs will be in the mid 60s. we'll take a closer look at these winds. we'll go hour by hour on future weather coming up in just a few minutes. >> what do you think undecided voters might have taken away from tonight's debate? >> well, they're undecided tonight. i don't think they will be later tonight or in the morning as they process the contrast of visions. the

live. >> this has been a special report from abc news. >> we're take a look at the accuweather forecast outside this morning. >> a live look at san jose where we do have clear skies. the big story today. if you remember one thing about your wednesday, it will be windy this afternoon. we'll have winds in excess of 30mph. so if you have anything outside, maybe some outdoor furniture, you may want to bring it inside or secure it because these winds will be active today. temperatures do bounce back over the next couple of days through the end of the wee. we're looking at warm air, but by the weekend it feels a bit more like fall with temperatures going below average and additional cloud cover. let's talk about the winds today. they are breezy in spots right now, but later on this afternoon onshore flow you can see area wide will likely see winds over 30mph. and our favorite gaps. we could see winds in excess of 40 to 45mph. so just be aware of that. the wider picture shows you it's really our ridge tops,

the sierra that will find some strong winds. you see those really bright magentas across portions of the state. those winds could be in excess of 50 to 70mph. and those winds in the vicinity of the davis fire could cause some problems with that fire. so it's for that fact. we have a red flag warning in effect for part of the sierra and around the davis fire. we do expect a particularly dangerous situation today because of those strong winds. that fire is likely going to grow the way the winds are moving. that would push the fire away from tahoe. we'll keep you updated on that. but we do expect that fire to grow in size due to the winds over the next 24 hours. back here at home, it's a windy afternoon. it looks nice out there with a lot of sunshine on the way. the temperatures are warmer than yesterday, but you'll find those winds 30 35mph, if not higher than that overnight. tonight the winds not as strong. overnight lows will mainly be in the 40s and in the 50s. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. it's a windy wednesday here today. still

along the coast. >> a dangerous situation is unfolding in southern california as three massive wildfires explode in size and threaten thousands of homes. apocalyptic images of red skies and massive smoke plumes show you just how intense these fires are. evacuations were ordered overnight for the bridge fire. it's one of the larger active wildfires in the state. it is burning in los angeles and san bernardino counties in the angeles national forest. cal fire says it has charred more than 34,000 acres since it started sunday. now, if you go farther to the east, a man has been arrested for arson in connection with the line fire. that's according to the san bernardino county sheriff's department. the fire started last thursday. it's burned more than 32,000 acres. cal fire says it's anticipating power shutoffs for areas near big bear and bear valley. it is at 14% containment. and take a look at this. the fast moving airport fire in orange county has already scorched more than 19,000 acres. cal fire says

there is no containment. officials say the fire was accidentally sparked by public works crews on monday. a highway, a highway and the trabuco trabuco canyon area is now closed off. there are numerous evacuation orders in place. >> well, just across the state line, the davis fire is causing animal evacuations. two centers, i should say, to fill up with pets and livestock. the local spca says the overflow of animals at the two designated centers is causing animals to be sheltered at other locations. county authorities say there have been an intake, a high intake of animals since that fire broke out over the weekend. so far, it's charred more than 5600 acres and it's now 31% contained. governor gavin newsom's plan to tackle gas prices by requiring a backup supply as ruffling feathers with neighboring states. the governor called a special session to get lawmakers at the state capitol to vote on his plan. now, the governors of arizona and nevada are asking newsom to back off newsom's plan. calls for oil
