across all lanes because of this crash, which happened at around 455. this morning. the backup is now to camino pablo avenue. traffic is diverting to northbound 13 uplands road. hop on the on ramp off miles avenue to get back onto highway 24. then we do want to take you to some video taken earlier this morning. this is in san leandro. the northbound 238 to northbound 880 connector is also closed due to this big rig crash. we know that it flipped onto its side and then caught fire. that was at 221 this morning, and here we are at 6:00, still causing some major issues. traffic is being diverted there from northbound 238 to southbound 880. another alternate route to consider. take castro valley boulevard to hop on to 580. so either leave very early to make it to anywhere you need to go on time or stay later and hope that these issues clear. with enough time for you to travel at a

different time this morning. let's get back to the desk. >> i'll take it. amanda, that was great information. we know a lot of people don't work from home on wednesday, so you may have a little bit of a longer commute. winds will be the big story in the accuweather forecast today. it is breezy out there already. you can see places like the city, oakland, concord, even fairfield winds between 10 and 15mph. they will pick up later on this afternoon, gusting well over 30mph. so outside this morning we have temperatures mainly in the 50s as we get you going on this wednesday. so looking at the forecast inland, it's a nice looking day a lot of sunshine. but look at the icon this afternoon. that's the windy forecast that we're expecting today. by 4:00 pm. those winds likely 30 35mph. temperatures will be in the low and mid 80s. looking at our bay shoreline forecast, it's a nice looking day, a little warmer than yesterday, but those winds will be an issue. strongest winds will be along the coast. we could see winds 40 45mph here. a mix of sun and clouds. today temperatures along the coast will stay in the mid 60s. we'll

this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. supporters of vp harris at the debate were a mix of surrogates and party line crossovers. that includes anthony scaramucci, who served as former president trump's communications director, and governor newsom, now the trump campaign invited robert f kennedy jr along with north dakota governor doug burgum. analysts from both sides had plenty to criticize from the debate. >> she had no answers on immigration. she had no answers. when she was asked about defunding the police, she laid traps and he chased every rabbit down, every hole. >> this is the difference between someone who's well prepared and someone who's unprepared. whoever did debate prep for donald trump should be fired. >> less than an hour after the debate ended, the harris campaign called for another matchup against trump. trump claims vp harris only wants another debate because he says she lost. back to you, reggie. >> thanks, amanda. one debate watch party in the bay area was notable for its very personal

news.com/election. >> new developments in the shooting of niners rookie ricky pearsall. the accused gunman's attorney says new video evidence supports his theory that the 17 year old should not be charged with attempted murder. instead, he says the video proves what happened was an attempted robbery. the teenager seen in this different surveillance video just after the shooting last month, was back in court yesterday. he waived his right to a speedy trial. his attorney also pushed back against headlines that his client brought a gun to his high school days before the pearsall incident. >> it's false. it's false news. it's a false narrative. he did not have a gun at school, so never brandished a weapon. if he had that gun at school, three things would have happened. he would have been arrested. they would have filed a petition against him, and he would have been, you know, ejected from the school. none of those things happened. >> the attorney confirmed his client still has an outstanding legal issue in san joaquin county, but didn't give any more

details on that. suspect is expected back in court on the 26th. the da's office has not decided whether it will try to have this case moved to adult court. >> now to a somber remembrance in our nation's history. today marks 23 years since the terrorist attacks on the world trade center. the pentagon and in shanksville, pennsylvania. here in the bay area, many are pausing to remember the lives lost on nine over 11. the san francisco fire department will hold its annual ceremony in honor of the emergency responders and civilians who died september 11th, 2001. that includes three people from the bay area. todd beamer and mark bingham of los gatos. they were passengers on united airlines flight 93 who fought back against the hijackers, preventing the plane from being used as a weapon and flight attendant betty ong of san francisco. she was working on board american airlines flight 11. her brother harry says she was able to relay information about the hijackers before the plane struck the world trade center. san francisco firefighters will hold their ceremony at fire station five at 659. we'll hear the bell.

arab studies program this fall, university officials say the program is not in response to recent pro-palestinian protests or tensions on campus. they say the multimillion dollar program has been in the works for more than two years. scholars from around the world will meet for an inaugural conference in november to discuss how the program can best educate students. jewish americans here in the bay area are challenging. one of the faith's leading organizations to help end the violence in gaza. they held a

rally in protest of the office of the jewish community relations council in san francisco yesterday. protesters are demanding the institution join the call for the u.s. to enact an arms embargo on israel. >> our jewish values have taught us that every life is a universe, and that no life is more valuable than another. and we are asking jsi rc to live up to these jewish values. >> the jcc has stated its support for israel's right to defend its citizens since the war with hamas began. more than a year ago in the north bay, organizers have decided to cancel the petaluma pride festival. they say they need time to deal with some organizational changes, but the group's former president is citing the israel-hamas war as the primary reason. started in 2022, the festival was scheduled to take place over three days in october. on its official website, it says the event will return in 2025. a woman who describes herself as a queer

palestinian put out this statement. it reads in part, quote, i have resigned as president of petaluma pride and severed all ties with the organization due to due to systemic issues within the board. the breaking point came when a board member who i once considered a friend, made dismissive comments about the genocide affecting my people, unquote. the full lineup for this year's hardly strictly bluegrass festival is now out. rock and roll. rock and roll hall of fame musician patti smith leads the lineup. smith previously performed at hardly strictly in 2012 and most recently was in san francisco at stern grove last summer. more than 60 artists are set to take over the stages in golden gate park next month. the festival runs october fourth to the sixth, and this is the one that is totally free to attend. >> jell-o is getting into the home decor game with a new line of inflatable chairs. they come in four colors. i'm sure you can guess red, yellow, green, and orange. representing jell-o's best selling flavors strawberry, lemon, lime, and orange. the

traffic alert here at 626. we're continuing to follow two sig alerts impacting the drive through the east bay. we're going to start in oakland. this is west of the caldecott tunnel. all lanes are blocked because of an overturned big rig. we've been tracking this since about 455. this morning. there is also a hard closure between highway 13 and broadway. so because of this, it's causing a 60 minute delay. drivers will notice lawn sod across all lanes as they try to make their way through here. although we know that there is no movement right now with the

backup to saint stephen's drive, an alternate route to take since traffic is being diverted to northbound 13 is uplands road. hop on the onramp off miles avenue to get back onto highway 24, and then in san leandro. we'll try to get you through this as well. this is northbound 238 to northbound 880. that connector remains closed because of a big rig crash that flipped onto its side and then caught fire. this actually happened just before 230 this morning. still causing some major issues. traffic is being diverted from northbound 238 to southbound 880, with that back up to redwood road. on westbound 580, an alternate route to take here would be castro valley boulevard and then hop on 580. you can see speeds down to five miles per hour as people try to navigate this kumasi. back to you. >> wow, a lot going on. thank you. amanda. new at six, the l taraval light rail service in san francisco is reopening this month following half a decade of construction in the sunset

neighborhood. sfmta announced saturday, september 28th, is when riders will be able to ride the light rail between embarcadero station and the san francisco zoo. this reopening will eliminate the need for a bus transfer at west portal station. the trains will run every ten minutes and every 12 minutes on the weekends. the l bus service will be discontinue. next, at 630, governor newsom on hand for the presidential debate. how he reacted to vice president harris's performance. then a viral video raising questions about the health and safety of the food carts in san francisco. after this hot dog vendor is handcuffed

because of an overturned big rig, and traffic is being diverted from 24 to northbound 13 because of a hard closure between 13 and broadway. so just a headache trying to navigate that area. this is causing a 60 minute delay. drivers will notice landslide across all lanes there with the backup to saint stephen's drive. if you can today, either leave very early or stay much later. although we don't know about an estimated time of reopening for either issue. let's go to gloria rodriguez now, who is live on scene in west town. maria yeah, right now we're on eastbound 24. >> we're near the wilder road exit, right near orinda. and behind me. you could see the backup. you can see the big rig where we are. but we did drive by it and you could see the big rig on its side. we also saw long sword across the freeway. it is just a big mess over there and here on the roads. as you can see as well, all lanes of

westbound highway 24 near northbound state route 13 are closed west of the caldecott tunnel in oakland because of that overturned big rig. traffic is being diverted from westbound 24 to northbound state route 13, and right now this is causing a 30 minute delay. there's a backup to camino pablo avenue and an alternate route. if you take this route, usually you can go on uplands road. just hop on the on ramp off miles avenue to get back on highway 24 and back here live again. a big backup in this area. i just talked to chp. they do think that this is a solo vehicle accident, but they are still investigating. they don't know right now what time they're going to reopen. all those lanes. they also don't know at this moment if there are any injuries. so i'm hoping to get another update from chp soon so we can give you the very latest information. back to you in the studio. >> thanks, laura. you can see in that live shot that it is breezy there in the east bay. winds

seven mornings advancer our way of highlighting some things happening in the day ahead here in the bay area. >> first up, a look at some of the events honoring the lives lost in the nine over 11 attacks 23 years ago this morning. firefighters and others will be participating in a memorial stair climb in concord. the challenge symbolizes the 110 flights of stairs, first responders climbed at the twin towers that day in the south bay, volunteers will take part in the bay area meal pack for nine over 11 day. they'll be packing more than 200,000 meals for people experiencing food insecurity at 9 a.m. at sjsu. now in oakland, city leaders will be coming together for a ceremony and a moment of silence at brooklyn basin at 8:30 a.m. >> the santa cruz county fair returns today. this year's theme is pioneer days to modern ways. you can expect new attractions, including a new drone show and tiny home projects for kids. there's also multiple exhibits, junior livestock auction, animals, and a monster truck show happening today. adult

and as we get close to each other, it creates that wind tunnel effect that we'll have later on this afternoon. looking at our winds as we go, hour by hour, they do pick up over the next several hours. they're likely going to peak between about one and 5 p.m. later on today. if those winds over 30mph, we'll likely find some gusts along the coast and through our hilltops closer to 40 45mph. so just be aware of that. it's a nice looking day. we have a lot of sunshine on the way. 70s and 80s. a little bit warmer than yesterday, but those winds will be an issue heading into the weekend. feels a b

to care for all that is you. want to get to those two signalers that we've been tracking all morning long. this one, though, is in san leandro. that's the one that we've been tracking since about 221. northbound 238 to northbound 880. that connector remains closed because a big rig crashed and flipped and then caught fire. traffic is being diverted from northbound 238 to southbound 880, with traffic backed up to redwood road on westbound 580. just take castro valley boulevard and then hop onto 580 is a way to get around that. and then to oakland, which west of the caldecott tunnel. this has been an issue since just before five. this morning as chp actually tweeting out, hang in there, commuters, because of what's going on here, an overturned big rig westbound

24 is blocking all lanes there. this is an updated picture from caltrans. updated at about 639 showing that backup. this is at saint stephens drive. it's going to be an issue. we know that there's a hard closure between highway 13 and broadway as well. all of this causing a 60 minute delay as people try to navigate the streets around these two major incidents, both elevated to sigalert. this morning. reggie. >> amanda. thank you. i want to update you on so many fires happening right now in the state. we're going to start in southern california because there are three massive wildfires that have exploded there. they threaten thousands of homes. we are once again seeing images of red skies and massive smoke plumes. so let's get into the bridge. fire first. this is happening in los angeles and san bernardino counties, again in southern california. this is happening in the angeles national forest. it's one of the larger active wildfires in the state. cal fire says it's charred nearly 47,000 acres so far since it started sunday.

multiple evacuation orders are in place. now, we go east. a man has been arrested for arson in connection with the lion fire. that's according to the san bernardino county sheriff's sheriff's department. that fire started last thursday. it's burned more than 32,000 acres. cal fire says it's anticipating power shutoffs for areas near big bear and bear valley. that is still only at 14% containment. and then there's the fast moving airport fire. this one in orange county. it's already scorched more than 22,000 acres. cal fire says no containment on this one. officials say this was accidentally sparked by public works crews on monday. a highway in the trabuco canyon area is now closed off. there are numerous evacuation orders in place there in the north bay. >> the wildfire burning in lake county is still 50% contained this morning. fire officials say evacuation orders for the boyles fire will stay in place for at least today, maybe even tomorrow. about 4000 people were told to leave on sunday. more

than 30 homes are lost. about 80 vehicles destroyed by the fire. there have been no injuries or fatalities reported so far. the cause is still being investigated. time now is 648. this morning, questions are being raised about a viral video showing a street vendor being handcuffed by police on san francisco's embarcadero, while the woman's five year old daughter is screaming for her mom, amanda. illegal street vending in san francisco is an issue, but this incident shows there are some challenges with enforcing the rules, especially when there's a language barrier. >> yeah, certainly. and kumasi, while we know public health officials have been working to keep the public safe from foodborne illnesses, it is this video that is raising questions about what happens when rules and protocols are lost in translation. it happened outside pier 33 alongside san francisco's embarcadero on sunday. hot dog vendor anna louisa casimir is seen on the ground as police try to detain her. her five year old daughter is also seen in the video crying out the port of san francisco

says they and city workers conduct regular enforcement of unpermitted vending on port property. sfpd says they were providing security to those workers at the time. officers say they got involved when the vendor allegedly attacked a port employee. she was then arrested for assault and delaying an investigation. she tells abc seven she can no longer vend because of her injuries and her cart being confiscated. >> la cabeza todo todo todo esto es. >> my whole head. everything bruised. how is it possible they did this to me? >> a spokesperson with sfpd said food safety and vending laws were broken in addition to that alleged assault, they also said, quote, if the vendor doesn't like being arrested, she should reconsider how she behaves when the city workers are just trying to do their jobs. that's the end of the quote there. the woman told abc seven she follows all the rules she knows of, like using gloves or buying her goods from restaurant depot. back to

you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. the faa is trying to figure out what went wrong when two delta planes collided in atlanta. federal officials say a delta jet clipped a smaller plane on a taxiway, tearing the tail off of the smaller plane. both planes were getting ready for takeoff at the busy hartsfield jackson international airport. passengers on both flights had to deplane and get on alternate flights. no one was injured. >> a former ftx executive is set to be sentenced this month, and she's asking for no prison time. lawyers for caroline ellison made the request just before midnight in a federal court in manhattan. they say she cooperated immediately and extensively with authorities when the cryptocurrency company collapsed back in 2022. ellison pleaded guilty and testified against ftx founder and her former boyfriend, sam bankman-fried, at his trial last year. bankman-fried was sentenced in march to 25 years

in prison. ellison's sentencing is set for september 24th. a weight loss drug is showing promise for young children with obesity. a new study found the drug liraglutide had a significant impact on younger children's body mass index, compared with participants who took a placebo. the study focused on children ages 6 to 12. the fda approved the drug in 2014 to help adults lose weight six years later. the approval extended to children ages 12 to 17. >> now it's your morning money report. starbucks is trying to bounce back from its slumping sales by reestablishing the brand. their new ceo, brian niccol, said he wants to bring back the community coffee house feel. he wants to implement new, comfortable seats, different designs and a clear distinction between the to go area and the farrier service. nicholas says that he'll meet with suppliers and partners to work out kinks in starbucks service, including its mobile app.

some warm numbers through the end of the week. then we'll reverse that pattern by the weekend. it feels a lot more like fall out there with below average temperatures. let's talk more about those winds today. here's hour by hour by 4 p.m. we have that onshore flow. it's pretty strong in most areas gusting over 30mph. our strongest winds along the coast, through the city and through our gaps and. winds in excess of 40mph. just be aware of that as we broaden out the picture to show you most of california and nevada, you notice along our ridge tops these really bright colors. those are winds likely 50 to 70mph. so it's for that fact. a red flag warning is in effect to our east. it does include part of the sierra. this will last until 8 p.m. and this is a particularly dangerous situation because the davis fire is burning right now just south of reno. and those winds are going to pick up today. the wind direction, though, would push any of the flames away from tahoe, but we do expect some massive growth on this fire over the next 24 hours because of those winds. we'll keep you updated on that. back here at
