>> officials tell us there is no threat to the public, but there is still a large police presence at the scene. >> this is the area we're talking about here. las vegas road and las vegas court. >> abc seven news reporter tim johns is there. joins us live with the latest tim. >> yeah. dan i'm here along las vegas road and you could see the police scene here behind me. now, law enforcement hasn't released too many details as of yet about what exactly happened here. however, our crews did see a body near two cars down the road further behind me here and just within the past hour, we also saw the coroner arrive here on scene. now, in addition to all of that, we did uncover some police dispatch audio and want you guys to listen to some of that just now. >> we have a murphy advising. he defended himself and he's in a dark gray vehicle. one party is bleeding profusely. okay, now males on the ground or be advising the subject. pulled him, got out, started punching him, and then the rp shot him. >> now, one of the vehicles on the road here behind me appears to be a tesla and the other a

forerunner. there's no official word yet on what exactly happened between the drivers of these two vehicles. one neighbor saying she believes she heard cars speeding down the road here. another telling me she was just coming home when she saw the police putting out the yellow caution tape. that woman saying she is shocked that this is happening in her neighborhoo. >> it's very quiet little, you know, car break-ins here and there, but nothing violent. so yeah, it was very upsetting. >> now authorities say there is no threat to the public at this time. however, they are encouraging people to avoid the area while the investigation is still ongoing. i'm live in orinda. tim johnson, abc seven news. >> all right, tim, thanks very much. oakland police have announced an arrest in multiple cases involving sex work, human trafficking and homicide. we've heard the community and we have make it make made a concerted effort to address the human trafficking that's taking place along the international corrido. two people have been arrested for a murder on august 10th near 12th avenue and international

boulevard. police say the victim in that case was killed during a robbery set up by a sex worker. citizens living in the area have raised concerns in recent months about an increase in sex trafficking in that part of town. investigators say they're seeing a direct correlation between sex crimes and robberies. they say one of the sex workers involved and arrested was also part of a similar incident back on may 10th. >> the union that represents oakland's police officers is thanking governor newsom for adding chp officers to patrol the city. the governor has increased shifts to put highway patrol officers on the streets of oakland, seven days a week. in a letter earlier this week, the opoa president praised the governor and also expressed frustration with city leadership over cuts to the department. he wrote, quote, unfortunately, elected officials in oakland do not seem to fully grasp the devastation caused to our residents by their unwillingness to fully fund and staff our police department. sadly, your intervention is necessitated by the lack of leadership in our

city. >> not so friendly skies. a fremont man is under arrest, accused of assaulting a flight attendant on frontier airlines, a flight bound for sfo. this happened on monday, according to officials. the 30 year old man tried to choke, one flight attendant, pushed another and kicked one about six times in the leg, leaving visible bruises. the justice department says this all happened after he pulled down an oxygen mask from the overhead compartment and started yelling obscenities. the flight was en route from john wayne airport in santa ana, headed to sfo. it had to be diverted to ontario international airport in san bernardino county. the suspect faces federal charges of interfering with flight crew members and attendants. >> following the story on the effort to crack down on organized retail crime, you may remember last october, 55 cities and counties across california received grants to try to solve the problem. now, the first arrest numbers show nearly 7000 people have been arrested. but as abc seven news south bay reporter dustin dorsey explains,

business owners believe more needs to be done. >> california lawmakers have taken aim at criminals who target businesses. thursday, governor gavin newsom signed the final bill to complete the legislative package to combat retail theft. and last year, 55 cities and counties received $267 million of retail crime grant funding, including santa clara county district attorney jeff rosen says that investment highlights the severity, that tool of money which led to organized retail theft task forces around the state. >> in addition to the other laws that have been passed. they're making a big difference and just say the numbers show that in cities and counties that receive the funding in october 2023, nearly 7000 arrests have been made. >> that includes the bust of nine suspects who are charged with felonies for stealing nearly half $1 million of stolen goods in santa clara county. >> we also then figured out who the fences are, who the people that were reselling these goods. and when you arrest and prosecute the resellers, you

really dry up the market for organized retail thieves. >> the number of arrests are significant, but there are only a small part of the bigger problem. >> last year in the state of california, businesses faced over $8.5 billion worth of stolen goods, an issue felt deeply by vietnamese owned businesses. >> long story road in san jose vu dinh says his shop, banh mi oven, has been the target of many break ins, including eight in a 30 day span. and he's not alone. >> sadly, these incidents have driven many businesses to close their doors permanently. it is painful to witness the hard working individuals and families pays the price of these crimes. >> that's why he's voting for prop 36. supporters say it would take current retail theft laws a step further by upgrading misdemeanor thefts of items worth less than $950 to felonies, among other changes. opponents are worried it will return california to a time of mass incarceration, but dinh

hopes it can make a difference. >> we must acknowledge that this spiral of crime negatively affects the well-being of our community. >> no one solution can solve retail crime, but everyone hopes steps continue to be made to curb the trend. in santa clara county, dustin dorsey, abc seven news. >> in an effort to better deal with crime, the san francisco police department is looking to change its district station boundaries. the department is proposing 15 changes. this map shows an example of one of the moving the boundary of the tenderloin station back to market street. the orange area is the current district, and the red outline reflects the recommended change. so why? chief bill scott says creating these new boundaries would put more resources in high crime areas and improve response times for service calls. the san francisco police department will hold a series of community meetings on these changes. it's proposing those will start later this month. >> san francisco is upping its support for women trying to escape abuse and sexual exploitation. today, it opened the doors to a new safe haven.

abc seven news reporter tara campbell was there and has the details. >> whatever they want, just just get off the streets, you know. >> don skelton knows what it feels like to need a safe place to escape from the streets. when i was out there, i wish that i knew of a place like this. she's talking about san francisco's hope center, where she now works. >> we have the bra, panties, all kind of clothes back there. we have all the hygiene, the good hygiene to this space. >> a safe haven for women experiencing sexual abuse and exploitation, as well as homelessness. >> the hope center is the day program for san francisco's safe house, and it's the gateway for all services that we offer. >> this is our drop in center where they can come and just chill. >> connecting women, trans women and non-binary people to services like housing, medical care, therapy and employment. >> it's very important that our staff have the resources that they need to really sit down and really deal with them one on one to, to create individual care

plans for them. that's special for them so they can get the resources that they need to go on with their lives. >> these are the case managers desks. >> and now it's grown out of its home in the tenderloin. today, opening the doors of its new location in soma. >> this space is exciting because we're going to be able to offer so much more for the population that we serve, and for women who are still navigating life on the streets. >> that's what just help them out. >> and with more space and more resources comes more outreach. >> we don't have nowhere to go, but they need to know. and they're going to find out because we're going to outreach. now that there is a place, when and if you're ready. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> up here. it's been an iconic part of the san francisco skyline for the past 52 years. and now, after a $1 billion renovation, it's reopening its public spaces. we'll show you around as

$6 a month. p-g-and-e's says the increase is needed to recoup electricity expenses paid during winter storms in 2022 and 2023, as well as fire mitigation. california public utilities commission approved the rate hike in a vote of 4 to 0 after a year of work and a $1 billion investment, the iconic transamerica pyramid is welcoming san franciscans back to its public spaces. abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn had a chance to check out the new renovations and joins us live. suzanne yeah, well, for decades, the transamerica pyramid has stood out in san francisco's skyline because of its distinct design. and now the public can enjoy parts of the building in a way like never before. >> the transamerica pyramid, the icon of san francisco. it pierces through the skyline, and it's as famous as the cable cars

or the golden gate bridge. >> john krizek can't believe that transformation. he says it's even better than before. >> totally mind blowing experience. it's just so awesomely wonderful. >> krizek was the pr manager for the iconic building from 1968 to 1977. >> this is a very special place. the history of this site is so special that history on display on a table in this conference room on the 27th floor. >> back in the late 60s and early 70s, it really was the center point of protest in the city. >> fast forward to 2024. two. one. the big moment has come for the transamerica building's grand reopening. it's now part of the transamerica pyramid center, a historic block that includes the pyramid plus

two adjacent buildings. there's also the transamerica redwood park, a renovated grand lobby and conference spaces. on the 27th floor is the new sky lounge. >> just look at how beautiful everything is. >> we managed to remaster the building while restoring and respecting the past. >> michael shvo is the co-owner. he wants the public to enjoy the modern vibe, but also continue to celebrate the history. >> today is the day that we open this place to the public for the people to come to enjoy the art shows, the restaurants, the activities, or just come and have lunch at the redwood park. >> the park and the lobby of the pyramid will be open to the public. the ground floor will feature cafes, a bookstore, and a flower shop. >> people will see today that that downtown is not just about work, it's about work. it's about play, and it's about just coming and relaxing and enjoying. we want people to come here. this is the heart of downtown san francisco. >> and tonight at 830, wherever you are in the city, keep a close eye out for the light show

a deal to bring the team to west sacramento next season could be in jeopardy. kfbk news radio in sacramento is reporting that major league baseball has not yet agreed to the upgrades at sutter health park. there are questions that includes the installation of artificial turf. by the way, there are questions about how safe that would be given that sacramento gets triple digit heat, of course, and the stadium is open air. but the a's remain committed to leaving oakland. the team's director of baseball communications released a statement today saying, quote, it is a certainty that the a's will play their 2025 season in sacramento as planned. mlb is continuing to work productively with the mlbpa. that's the players association on the details of the transition. end quote. >> after more than 30 years, the aids life cycle fundraiser is set to end next year. the 545 mile journey takes bike riders from san francisco to los angeles. since it started in

this category. but this is one of our drier months. so it's not surprising that we are now entering that. on a brighter note. let me show you the view from skystar cam at fisherman's wharf on the skystar wheel. is that gorgeous or what? dan's visitors from london are going to love this. it's a lot of sunshine, blue skies right now. temperatures are running a few degrees higher than where they were yesterday. just about everywhere is six degrees warmer in san jose. livermore five degrees in santa rosa. high pressure is coming in. that's what's providing us with the warmth. another day of this tomorrow area of low pressure has moved out. so the wind difference, the pressure difference between the two has eased a bit. so the winds are not nearly as strong as yesterday. 21 miles an hour at sfo right now. 15 miles an hour out towards the napa area. and beautiful blue skies from golden gate bridge. camera. 64 in the city. it is 73. in oakland. you're in the low 80s from san jose to redwood city, half moon bay, 61 degrees exploratorium. cameras showing you sunshine

right now. so the fog that was there cleared out. 84 in santa rosa, 70 in petaluma and napa. upper 80s fairfield. concord is at 85 and 83. in livermore, from our santa cruz camera. a lovely view. you'll notice the trees are not really blowing around much in santa cruz. tomorrow, sunny and mild to warm day this weekend. cooler, gusty below average, particularly on sunday. the below average and gusty. and then monday. here comes a chance of showers and drizzle, but we don't have to worry about that just yet. temperatures tonight 80 inland at 620. some fog begins to reform, but it's really patchy as we head towards the morning hours, we'll see some areas of fog to start off the day tomorrow afternoon. another lovely one. inland areas in the 90s. 60s right near the coast. so our summer spread with us. your numbers will be in the 50s and 60s to start the day tomorrow afternoon. nice 186 in san jose, 88 in gilroy, 83. sunnyvale in the south bay on the peninsula 84 redwood city, mid 60s, right near the coast. half moon bay and pacifica.

the golden bachelorette premieres right here on abc seven. ama and dan as you both know. >> thanks very much. well, we are now getting a sneak peek of what the golden state valkyrie's locker room and practice facility will look like. the team released renderings today. the v shaped locker room at chase center features a training room, player lounge, dining area and coaches offices. while the practice facility in oakland has 17 basketball hoops, two full size courts, as well as a locker room, weight room, training room, and hot and cold pools. construction is underway at both facilities and expected to be complete in early 2025. for the valkyries inaugural season. >> i think the players will be pleased. pretty fancy. >> all right. still ahead, the 76th annual emmys are this sunday right here on abc seven and the series, leading all the others with 25 nominations is shogun. >> you're going to hear from the show creators and c
