evening. i'm ama daetz and i'm julian glover. >> he's only here for a few hours, but his supporters have been lining the streets of woodside to try to catch a glimpse of the republican presidential nominee as his motorcade passed by. >> abc seven news reporter dustin dorsey spoke to some of them. he joins us now live. hi, dustin. >> hi, ama. and unfortunately, that crowd that was here along woodside road was not able to see the former president as he took a different route into town when his motorcade passed through around 330 this afternoon, only a few people were able to see them, including our cameras. but the excitement here still felt in san mateo county. it's actually the second visit to the bay area this summer for former president trump, as he continues to his campaign trail. this time, it's in san mateo county. dozens of his supporters lined el camino real earlier in the day to make their voices heard, waving flags and signs. >> californians are here to support trump. there are a lot of people here in california

it. thank you. dustin. meanwhile, vice president kamala harris is keeping her focus on one of the biggest battleground states in the east. of course, that is pennsylvania. while there today, she sat down for an exclusive interview with anchor brian taff from our philadelphia sister station, wpvi. it's harris's first solo interview since being selected as the democratic presidential nominee in the wide ranging conversation, one topic she did address was gun control. even pitching an assault weapons ban. >> they're literally tools of war. they were literally designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly. i say we need universal background checks. the majority of nra members support that. why? because it's just reasonable. you just might want to know before someone can buy a lethal weapon. if they've been found by a court to be a danger to themselves or others, you just might want to know. >> harris also gave more specifics on her economic plan.

on market street. i spoke to several witnesses who were working in the area and said they heard anywhere between 7 to 9 gunshots. we also obtained a video from a witness who caught the suspect walking as police officers chased him. >> there's a suspect in the liquor store taking cover behind a wall. >> a san francisco resident whose social media name is frisco live 415, caught the moment sfpd officers surrounded the gmg liquor store on fifth street, demanding for a man believed to be armed to come out. >> this is the real deal. i got way too close to that incident, guys. >> seconds later, the suspect, wearing a mask, can be seen walking out of the liquor store, putting something in his waist and casually crossing the street while sfpd officers pointed their guns at him. earl jackson, with urban alchemy, was in the alley after they ordered him to come out. >> i saw the gentleman walking who i believe the suspect was walking across the street here, and then the officers were falling with their guns drawn, and they pursued him down the

street around the corner. >> video shows the suspect walking towards the bart powell station, with multiple officers demanding for him to stop. employees and a customer inside a starbucks coffee store that connects to the bart area saw the suspect. >> the guy was trying to jump to the bart entrance to get in there, and then i saw he has a gun on his right hand, and then the cop was already chasing him down from somewhere. >> as officers chased him down, frisco live 4-1-1 five caught the sound of multiple gunshots below. oh my god. stephanie locked the doors as gunshots rang out, trying to protect everyone inside the store. >> there was one customer in the store, so i'm like, get her out behind the counter. i don't care if she a customer or who she is, but get her back here on the street level. >> tourists waiting for the cable car ran for cover. hours later, sfpd confirming officers

first made contact with the suspect after noticing he was armed inside. what is to believe? a stolen vehicle leading to this pursuit. >> they observed this armed person because of proactive police work and they took the appropriate action in terms of engaging with this person. >> sfpd chief bill scott confirmed officers recovered the suspect's gun at the scene. the suspect was later taken to the hospital and is in fair condition. sfpd is expected to hold a town hall on this shooting within ten days of the incident. in the newsroom, luz pena, abc seven news. >> a really scary incident. thank you. louis. we have some new details tonight in yesterday's deadly road rage shooting in the city of orinda. today, the man killed was identified as 50 year old scott decker, who was a resident of both truckee and orinda. the shooting happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of las vegas road and las spiral road. decker was reportedly driving a toyota forerunner when witnesses say a man driving a tesla shot him.

the contra costa county sheriff's office says the man was detained but has since been released. >> in just about an hour, oakland residents are set to start a walk against gun violence. this is the 12th year the group faith in action. east bay has held a ceasefire night walk. the walk will begin with a prayer at allen temple baptist church on international boulevard and 86th avenue. city leaders will also speak about oakland ballot measure n. it would increase property taxes to fund violence reduction services. >> the superintendent of oakland schools is notifying families of a huge budget deficit that could prevent usd from paying its teachers. the letter is titled money disaster superintendent kyla johnson trammell says oakland unified will face a $79 million budget deficit by the end of the current school year. well, that deficit is expected to grow so large that by 2027, the district may not be able to meet payroll or pay for other basic services. the superintendent blames falling enrollment, fewer funds coming

seven chopper working on the tracks. they found a fiber cable related problem was preventing routing between those two stations. >> the huge rainbow pride flag that flies over san francisco's castro district is getting a special honor. >> yeah. it's iconic. and the flag was officially designated a city landmark today. abc seven news reporter tim johns is here to tell us all about the work it took to get this special designation. tim. >> yeah. julian the flag first went up in san francisco's civic center in 1978. it was then permanently raised over the harvey milk plaza near the intersection of market and castro streets, back in 1997. the significance of that back then was, of course, historic. and now, nearly three decades later, it's landmark status means the flag will remain flying. there forever. with the flick of a pen, it's done. yeah. san francisco mayor london breed officially making the rainbow pride flag that flies over the castro neighborhood, a city landmark. >> whatever happens in this neighborhood, whatever happens in this plaza, that if any change is going to be made to this, it has to be looked at

through its implications for historic preservation. >> rafael mandelman, who serves as the supervisor for this district, spearheaded the legislation. on friday, he co-hosted the signing ceremony before city leaders and community activists symbolically carried a new pride flag down the street to harvey milk plaza. once there, the new flag was hoisted up the flagpole. a process that's happened every few months since 1997. jeff sheehy was at that first flag raising. >> you could just feel this whole neighborhood just kind of explode with exhilaration and joy and hope. it was such an amazing moment. >> a large part of friday's event also focused on gilbert baker. baker created the original rainbow flag in the 1970s, and was the one who petitioned then mayor willie brown to fly it in the castro. baker sat down with abc seven news in 2017 to talk about the flag's creation, and what would be the last interview before his death. >> pink is for sex and red for life, and orange for healing, yellow for sun, green for nature, turquoise for magic,

blue for serenity, and purple for the spirit. >> while the flag has enormous significance within san francisco, many also tell us its importance reaches far beyond the city. charlie beal is the president of the gilbert baker foundation. he says earlier in the week he received an email from a gay teenager in rural pennsylvania after his school district voted to ban pride flags. >> i get these emails every week. people that are just, they become scared because there's concrete evidence that shows that after this flag has been banned in these communities, hate crimes go up. >> all the more reason, mandelman says. san francisco must remain a beacon of hope for all in the lgbtq plus community as a permanent celebration of queer liberation, which is what what gilbert intended. now, the rainbow flag flying over the castro district isn't without controversy. there have been new versions of the flag aimed at being more inclusive of black and brown people, as well as

others in the lgbtq plus community. many in the castro district, however, believe the original march the epicenter of gay rights in the u.s. in the studio. tim johns, abc seven news. >> all right, tim, thank you so much. salesforce's dreamforce conference starts monday. some streets in downtown san francisco around moscone center are already closed. third street and howard street and some lanes of folsom street are blocked around moscone center. salesforce ceo marc benioff is expecting about 50,000 attendees this year. last year, there were about 40,000. the dreamforce website shows techies will pay more than $2,500 just to attend. >> okay, well, today marks the last official day for xs headquarters in san francisco. x, of course, formerly known as twitter, has been at ninth and market since almost the very beginning. back in 2012. ceo elon musk announced this summer he'd move x's headquarters to austin. well, since then, musk has reportedly tried to sublease the entire x building. the 800,000 square foot complex has been mostly vacant due to staff cuts and remote work. according

nice weather, but it changes rapidly on sunday. ama and julian, i want to show you first the earthquake conditions from earlier today. there was a small earthquake. it was minor, east northeast of the foothills and it was 3.4 at 315. this afternoon. now, it was certainly felt in a lot of the south bay, weak to light for the most part. but even parts of the east bay, san francisco peninsula all the way up towards the north bay a little bit, felt it. calaveras fault is what it was near at this point. there have been smaller aftershocks. live view right now, turning your attention back to the weather from our okay camera. absolutely beautiful. but you can certainly see that fog layer way in the distance. and that's going to be expanding. so if you're not staying in town and you're getting out of town, it is aloha friday travel forecast time in oakland as we're going to see 74 degrees, a little bit of fog and then sun tomorrow afternoon. there are chances of showers. best opportunity in honolulu 40%. 86 degrees tomorrow. and it's a mix of sun and showers.

lihue 83 degrees 40% opportunity. we have an opportunity for rain as well. high pressure for the time being brought us the 90s today in our inland valleys. many of you were warmer than yesterday with 60s coast side, but high pressure is going to take a back seat. this is the trough that is developing. it drops down. it is potent for this time of year and it is going to bring about some changes. we'll talk about that in just a moment. right now we have fog along the coastline. your temperatures ranging from the 60s beaches to the 90s inland as we look at the beach, beautiful view from santa cruz right now. tomorrow cooling trend starts fall-like on sunday. gusty, cooler and below average. and trust me, you will notice by monday we are talking about a chance of showers and windy conditions. so first thing tomorrow morning watch out for that fog. if you have early morning weekend plans. 50s and 60s tomorrow afternoon. it's breezy, it's cooler. that's the first change. 84 in san jose, 85 in morgan hill on the peninsula 80 redwood city, 64, in pacifica. downtown san francisco

68 degrees. as we look at the north bay, mid 80s right around novato, santa rosa 82, in san rafael, 78, in napa, heading into the east bay 74, oakland 81. castro valley. inland areas. upper 80s from concord to livermore and fairfield. now i'm going to show you what's going to happen as we head towards your weekend. so a deep trough comes in here sunday night. it begins to move in opportunity for some wet weather, but a better chance on monday morning and you will see the shower opportunity here. certainly the potential is there for some sierra snow above 8000ft. i know it sounds crazy. september is typically not a very wet month, but it is looking like we will see some moisture out of this. a secondary trough comes in. this is not as organized on wednesday and brings us another chance for showers. the biggest takeaway with this though, really with both systems, is it's going to bring much of parts of california rain. and with all those fires going that will help with higher humidity, we need it obviously. now here are the

projections for rain by monday night. we're talking a few hundredths of an inch to about a 10th of an inch at most. novato might pick up a little bit more than that. it's just enough to dampen the ground and the winds will come up on sunday. they get ramp up around 11:00 in the morning, over 30 miles an hour, close to 40 over the higher elevations, and parts of the sierra. going under that winter weather advisory sunday night to monday evening, up to four inches above 8000ft with gusty winds. so definitely watch out. accuweather seven day forecast. it's a breezy, cooler saturday but better day for outdoor plans on emmys or right here on abc seven news on sunday. it's going to be fall-like and gusty. perfect for viewing. chance of showers monday. a brief break on tuesday. another opportunity for a few showers showing up on wednesday, which is when the golden bachelorette premieres right here and ama. yeah, very exciting, but the weather changes are going to be very fun. i mean, different, right? >> yeah, we're here for it.

christian mccaffrey once again this weekend. the team has ruled out mccaffrey for sunday's game in minnesota. mccaffrey continues to deal with calf and achilles tendon injuries, and head coach mike shanahan says the team is now considering whether mccaffrey will have to be put on injured reserve. >> that's something we're considering now. yeah, yesterday was his worst day. it's on and off, but with it yesterday having the most pain, something we're going to be discussing here in the next 24 hours. >> if he is put on the ir, it would mean mccaffrey would have to sit out at least the next four games. the niners take on the vikings sunday in minnesota. the 76th emmy awards are sunday night on abc, featuring emmys first father and son hosting team. before eugene levy and dan levy take the emmy stage, they sat down with reporter george pennacchio. >> the night is not about us.
