being a traffic infraction, because there are collateral consequences to having a criminal record in traveling around the country. but making it a traffic infraction will make all those worries go bye bye bye. >> with that shock of seeing timberlake in a mug shot, people wanted answers. now people wanted to know what happened. what did he do? where was he going? all those questions are there. so for timberlake to come out and admit that he had a drink. one drink. and now he's taking ownership of that, it's pretty strategic move on. his part of controlling the narrative. >> today's hearing a 180 from his previous hearings. >> he was not intoxicated. i'll say it again. justin timberlake was not intoxicated. >> appearing virtually from the european leg of his world tour in august, he pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanors. surveillance video capturing timberlake's gray bmw a little after midnight after he left hamptons hotspot the american hotel. police say he sped

through a stop sign and swerved out of his lane. in police documents, timberlake quoted telling authorities he had just finished dinner and had one martini, and i followed my friends home. but officers noted that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath. during a field sobriety test, police say he performed poorly and was unsteady on his feet. he refused to take a breathalyzer. the hamptons has long been a go to destination for the rich and famous, and celebrities have been making headlines in the wealthy enclave for decades. in 2012, nba hall of famer jason kidd pled guilty to a misdemeanor dwi after running his escalade into a light pole. in 2003, billy joel drove into a tree after swerving off the road. he was hospitalized but not charged. in 1997, martha stewart was accused of intentionally backing her car into a landscaper. the incident was investigated, but charges were never filed. it's the latest blemish on the reputation of the 43 year old singer and actor, known for hits like

still unable, you know, to perform in certain spaces because of that moment. whereas justin, you know, not that long ago was able to do a solo halftime show at the super bowl following the films in 2021, timberlake posted an apology on instagram, writing, i am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where i spoke out of turn or did not speak up for what was right. >> i specifically want to apologize to britney spears and janet jackson, both individually, because i care for and respect these women, and i know i failed. the post has since been taken down. then, late last year, spears published a memoir alleging timberlake cheated on her multiple times and that she cheated too. but the difference, she says, is that timberlake used her infidelity to further his career. playing it out in his cry me a river video, where if britney lookalike steps out on him, ever hit me so hard and just tell me you river. in a
