innocent, but he knew this was coming. he arrived in new york last week, we're told in anticipation that he was going to be charged by the feds. >> the arrest caps a turbulent year for the rap icon. last november, his ex-girlfriend, singer cassie ventura, filed a lawsuit alleging years of abuse, including domestic violence and rape. the case was settled the next day for an undisclosed amount. in may, cnn released this security video showing combs assaulting ventura in a hotel in 2017, prompting combs to apologize. >> i hit rock bottom, but i made no excuses for my behavior on that video. is inexcusable. i take full responsibility for my actions in that video. >> in the ten months following ventura's initial lawsuit, at least ten other lawsuits have been filed against the rapper with allegations of sexual assault and physical violence dating back to the 90s. combs, denying the claims. in march, federal authorities raided combs

properties in los angeles and miami beach as part of an investigation into alleged sex trafficking. >> they were looking for electronic evidence. according to many of the plaintiffs in the civil lawsuits, allegations he denies. but he kept extensive records in the form of video that while these things were going on, he was recording with his phone. >> sources say prosecutors have interviewed a number of combs accusers in connection with that investigation. combs is now in federal custody. the charges are expected to be unsealed later this morning as he's arraigned. >> now to the man accused of plotting to kill former president trump in florida. we are learning more about his past. and former president trump is now describing those tense moments on the golf course. overnight, former president trump recounted the apparent assassination attempt in florida. >> the secret service did an excellent job on sunday. >> authorities say a secret service agent spotted a rifle sticking through the bushes at the sixth hole of trump's west palm beach golf course, as trump

moved near the fifth hole. the agent calling out gun and opening fire and all of a sudden we heard shots being fired in the air and i guess probably 4 or 5. >> and it sounded like bullets. but what do i know about that? but secret service knew immediately it was bullets, and they grabbed me. >> authorities say ralph did not get off a shot, saying trump was never in his line of sight. real estate investor steve witkoff was with trump at the time, and the reason i feel blessed is that i got to see what it's like for my dear friend to live his his normal life, his normal life, which is punctuated by two attempts to assassinate him in the last 60 days. investigators say ralph fled in his vehicle, allegedly leaving behind the rifle, a camera and two backpacks. >> and amazingly, a civilian in that area saw something and it looked very suspicious. drove their car to the back of his truck of some kind and took

pictures of the license plate. >> keep walking. >> law enforcement arrested ralph about 45 minutes later on i-95. phone records show he was at the golf course for about 12 hours, waiting on the public side of a chain link fence. >> the subject had an active online presence, and we are going through what he posted and any searches he conducted online. >> ralph has a criminal record dating back decades. the 58 year old was convicted on a charge of having a weapon of mass death in 2002, when investigators found a machine gun in his possession after a traffic stop led to a standoff with police. sources say authorities are looking into whether ralph took issue with trump's positions on the war in ukraine. he repeatedly posted about supporting ukraine and traveled there six times since the war began. >> when you talk to a 20 year old guy that sold everything he owns to come here and fight,

that is heroism. >> abc news spotting him at this protest in kyiv in 2022. officials say ralph tried to join ukraine's military but was rejected after failing a psychological check. meanwhile, president biden and vice president harris condemned political violence after the apparent assassination attempt. but trump and his running mate jd vance are blaming democrats rhetoric. >> you know the big difference between conservatives and liberals is that we know one has tried to kill kamala harris in the last couple of months, and two people now have tried to kill donald trump in the last couple of months. i'd say that's pretty strong evidence that the left needs to tone down the rhetoric and needs to cut this crap out. >> in a self-published book, ryan ralph also urged iran to target trump for pulling out of the iran nuclear deal in 2018. so far, ralph faces two gun charges he has not entered a plea yet. he is due in court next week. >> the fire from a massive explosion of a natural gas

pipeline in texas burned into the overnight hours after forcing homes and businesses nearby to evacuate. police say the blast was triggered by an suv that crashed through a fence and struck a valve. the flames, as you can see, shooting hundreds of feet into the air. they were visible 25 miles away in houston. the flames jumped a highway and damaged several homes. four people were injured and more than a thousand power outages were reported. >> parts of north carolina's coast are underwater after what's being described as a once in a thousand years rainfall event. some areas got more than 20in of rain from an unnamed storm. the floodwater rushing over highway 17 in brunswick county. one driver was stranded for five hours and i passed one real bad path back there of water, and i made it good. >> but this one i'm not sure. i'm kind of like hesitant about doing it. i'm kind of scared. >> well, the rain moves into virginia today. we'll check your forecast in just a few moments. >> now to washington and the fight over banning tiktok, the social media company is making

its case in a federal appeals court. abc's christiane cordero has details on that. christiane good morning. >> rhiannon. good morning. the judges appeared to be skeptical of tiktok's argument during a crucial hearing here in washington. a social media showdown in washington. the justice department and tiktok appearing before a panel of judges in a federal appeals court. at issue, a law that would force tiktok's chinese owned parent company to sell the app or else be banned in the u.s. the social media giant and some creators on the platform argue that law is unconstitutional and violates free speech for the first time in history, congress has expressly targeted a specific u.s. speaker, banning its speech and the speech of 170 million americans. but the justice department calls tiktok a national security threat due to its access to americans data and its ability to potentially manipulate content. >> the problem is that that same data is extremely valuable to a foreign adversary trying to compromise the security of the

in connection with the murders of his wife, christine, and a man named joseph ryan last february. prosecutors claim someone posing as christine lured ryan to the family home using a fetish website. banfield had claimed that he and the family's au pair had shot ryan after they found him attacking christine, but police say evidence suggests banfield and the au pair were having an affair. >> this much is clear. we have evidence to now allege that christine banfield's life was unlawfully taken and joseph ryan's life was unlawfully taken. >> the au pair was arrested last year in connection with ryan's death. her trial is in november. >> home depot has been ordered to pay nearly $2 million to settle a civil claim that it overcharged customers. district attorneys in california say the company engaged in false advertising and unfair competition by ringing up items for more money than the posted price. home depot did not admit to any wrongdoing.
