[ applause ] thank you for having me. great to have you here, man. looking at the nfl, people may forget, many including a lot of fans may not realize, it's taken decades for black quarterbacks to be given opportunitis in this league. and you talked with a lot of trailblazers who made that possible. how was that? >> player: it was, to talk to these guys and hear their stories. funny, we share similar stories. i feel like we had points in our careers where, whether you were in high school or college, you were doubted a bit, you were told you may have to play a different position, or you know, you just weren't confident, i wasn't confident i would be a quarterback, you know, as my years went on in football. and so, to listen to doug and

rodney, you know, we listened to warren, unbelievable stories i wanted this generation to hear, they are fortunate to be in the situation they are in; they are fortunate to be standing at the podium and selected #1. i was one of those guys and they just got it good nowadays and i want them to know what the trailblazers went through to pave the way for us now. >> michael: speaking of trailblaze wers, the first black quarterback, doug williams. >> player: one of the best interviews. >> michael: when made it special? >> player: doug was candid about the process, i sat down with joe gibs, talking to joe about doug, get to know hit football acumen, how much of a football savant, he was. coming up in grambing, he had stereotypes to face. and overcame those, once that happened he became one of the top quarterbacks in the nfl.

i remember watching doug as a 7-year-old kid in the superbowl, and not being as comfortable watching him, because i was used it seeing white quarterbacks, couldn't put it all together, why he was a black quarterback playing; it was one fusing because i wanted to be a quarterback, but i didn't ski see a lot of them as a watched the game of football. >> michael: you covered doug williams and you spoke to joe and andy reid your coach, and your favorite guy, steve young. and so this is kind of a big mix of people, you talked to a lot of young players, patrick mahomes, cj stroud, you talked to dak prescott, do they understand what it took for them to have the opportunity they have now? >> player: that's why we weapons inspectored to do this, we wanted to do this, we wanted to bring back the history and show what these guys had to go through, like i said, how fortunate and privileged they are now, to be

in position they are in. in talking to them, they had similar stories in their own right, they may have been doubted at times and had confidence to push forward, someone pushed them to continue to you know, want to play that position, the quarterback position; and a lot of those guys say, you know, i ainspired them -- i inspired them, cool to see, cool to hear. but a lot of people, um, you know, i know in my day, you know, it was questioned whether or not i would continue to be a quarterback. >> michael: you did, you did it well, inspired a lot of people. we will show a clip of a conversation you had with dak prescott. let's do it. >> [soundbite]: the visit to dallas there was a player in the training room, i won't say the name. and, as i walked through, he asked who i am, i said dak prescott, mississippi state.

>> he said black quarterback, we won't have that ... >> i realized the wall i would be trying to break down if i got drafted by them. >> michael: what do you think about the state of the league now, so many starting black quarterbacks out there. what does it s■ay about the league right now? >> player: i think it says a lot about the league, i truly wanted this to be a celebration. and not looked at as a devicer situation, the league, general managers and owners and coaches granted us the opportunity. and i think they deserve a lot of credit. >> my wife and i huddled together with smack, your production company, making this project a success, we wanted ultimately the nfl to be proud of this, how far we have come, the brotherhood and opportunities given to us as black quarterbacks now, i think it's a celebration
