business of running the city. >> reporter: when adams surrenders here, george, he will be first sitting mayor of new york to set foot in a courthouse as a criminal defendant. federal prosecutors have pledged to keep digging and hold more people accountable. >> george: okay, aaron. thanks very much. now the latest on the race for the white house. kamala harris set to make her first trip to the border since entering the race. chief white house correspondent mary bruce is on the scene in arizona. good morning, mary. >> reporter: good morning, george. well, immigration has been one of kamala harris' greatest vulnerabilities in this race. today she's going to tackle the issue head on, making her first visit to the border since entering the race. we are told she is going to call for more resources at the border, outlining more security measures including a plan to try and combat fentanyl struggling. she's going to push for more resources and border agents. these were all things included in that bipartisan border deal donald trump urged republicans to block earlier this year. that's a point kamala harris will make here today. now donald trump we know from
7:17 am
polls, he's had the advantage on this issue. harris is hoping trips like this one will help her to start to close the gap. trump, for his part, mocked harris for making this visit. he said she has done the worst job in the history of any border even though of course george we have seen in recent months encounters have come down since the biden administration imposed new asylum restrictions. >> george: yes, they have come down. mary, thank you very much. coming up bryan kohberger's first hearing before a new judge. why the start date of the trial could change. >> michael: the points guy is here with the goldilocks window for booking travel. >> rebecca: and the biggest showdown in college football this weekend. georgia at alabama. we have a big surprise for one big fan. michael, this isn't going to hurt as much as the cowboys. we promise. had to get that in. let's go to ginger. >> ginger: i know sam mentioned, guys, but a flash flood emergency in atlanta is not a joke. do not get in the car and drive if you absolutely do not have
7:18 am
to. that is how you will get killed in this storm. flash flood emergencies are rare. the rainfall rates are upwards of 1 inch plus per hour. you're going to see additional couple inches of rain. this is that back side or the west side of what's left of the tropical storm helene. so as that comes through, we have record storm surge around tampa bay. it beat the old record by three feet. cedar key all had that with more than nine feet. we'll get some numbers from up around the bend where that eye wall came through. i'm sure those will be impressive. saint petersburg 6.3 feet of storm surge. you can see the damage behind me. we are still concerned with the on shore flow so keep that in mind. high tide is in an hour or so. one to three feet of surge. they're starting to get that wrap around. charleston, back down to jacksonville. we'll be dealing with surge the next two hours then it will be all about that inland rain.
