and i'll have your complete accuweather seven day forecast coming up, including a big warm up on the way. stephanie. >> all right. thank you francis. now to your voice. your vote this morning, vice president kamala harris is now in the bay area for another visit. and this is likely the vice president's last visit to san francisco before election day. but her arrival began with one of those only in san francisco moments. you'll know what i mean. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez has the story. >> vice president kamala harris makes what could be her final visit to california before the election. a little after 830 friday evening, the vp touched down at sfo as her motorcade arrived at the fairmont san francisco. an autonomous waymo got stuck making a turn. a san francisco police officer had to manually drive the vehicle out of the way. >> nowhere else in the city. nowhere else in the world. we're the only people come to see that. so we saw it. >> we did reach out to waymo and

haven't heard back yet. earlier in the day, harris made her first trip to the border in arizona in years. harris expressed a tougher stance on illegal immigration. she spoke with local border patrol leaders as they walked along the wall. >> there are consequential issues at stake in this election, and one is the security of our border. the united states is a sovereign nation, and i believe we have a duty to set rules at our border and to enforce them. >> the election is less than 40 days away. harris is spending the night at the fairmont hotel. she has a private fundraiser at an undisclosed location on saturday. the hotel is the same spot where she held an event in august, raising more than $13 million for her campaign, according to the san francisco examiner. tickets for saturday's fundraiser will be 500 to $2800. >> i think that this makes it affordable to at least another group of strong supporters, who

maybe were priced out of the prior events. >> bill james is the santa clara county democratic party chair. harris's fundraising tripled trump's in august. james said the significant money raised is being used to lean in to media markets and battleground states. >> a lot of people, in fact, everybody has formed an opinion of donald trump. people like him or dislike him. there aren't many people out there who don't know about him and are yet to form an opinion. but for vice president harris, she's benefited from the novelty of entering the race late. a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of positive energy. but i think some voters in the middle still have the question, you know, who is kamala harris? is this a person i can see as my president? >> in san francisco, lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> now, we do want to point out harris made several promises to voters after her visit to the us-mexico border. harris promised she will add 1500 more border agents and officers, cracked down on fentanyl smuggling and human trafficking and will surge resources to the

border. but a fox news poll shows more voters in arizona say they trust trump more on the issue compared to vice president harris. meanwhile, former president donald trump campaigning in battleground michigan in what was supposed to be an event focusing on manufacturing jobs, the former president spent a significant amount of time criticizing harris for her border visit. >> she went to the border today because she wanted to see if she could. she's getting killed on the border. she didn't go there for four years now. today she shows up. >> trump also spoke about his meeting with ukrainian president zelenskyy. the former president said he'll quickly end the war in ukraine, but did not provide specifics on how he plans to do so. cbs news shared the rules for the upcoming vice presidential debate. microphones will not be muted when the other person is speaking. the network says they still reserve the right to mute candidates, though, but they otherwise the microphones will be on. similar

to the presidential debates. no opening statements, no live audience and no props or notes. tim walz will be placed on the left and jd vance on the right. the debate is this tuesday. you can watch live coverage right here on abc seven starting at 5:00 on tv. disney plus and hulu. on the peninsula, now a 16 year old is recovering from a stabbing that happened at south san francisco high school. the teen was taken to a nearby trauma center yesterday for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. abc seven news spoke with a student who didn't see the stabbing happen, but did witness a fight leading up to it. and what happened after there was a fight before a teacher got pushed over. >> so i was helping him try and, you know, get him up and stuff like that. and i hear kids behind me saying, there's a stabbing. i see kids running towards where it happened. they put the kid in a golf cart and rushed him to the main office, where our ambulance came. >> the student tells us he did not recognize the victim and

believes they attend a different school. police say a 14 year old suspect is currently in custody. now to this. what's to come of the oakland coliseum now that its team has left the nest? the oakland roots soccer team will play at the coliseum starting in 2025. but what comes after that falls on the imagination of the african american sports and entertainment group, which now owns the site. abc seven news reporter anser hassan has a closer look at the vision. let's go oakland. >> for the last time ever, chants of let's go oakland! filled the coliseum at thursday's final home game. the franchise is moving to las vegas. so what comes next? >> oakland will get major league sports again. there's no question in my mind. the market is too large. it's too wide open. the media market is too big. >> ray bobbit is co-founder of the african american sports and entertainment group, which now owns the oakland coliseum site. he says the future trends toward

sports and entertainment tourism venues surrounded by retail, arts and culture and housing, and hopes of revitalizing east oakland with jobs. >> we know that in district six and seven, there's only about 2000 full time jobs, most of which are the airport and the coliseum site. and so just think about it. if we could create up to 20,000 jobs at that site, you're talking about a life changing scenario for that entire area. >> bobbit says this will be a ten year long project. the oakland arena will stay. planning for the rest of the site will take another year and a half. 3 to 5 years before they break ground on early stages of the project. the coliseum specific plan is already in place, which bobbit says means they won't be delays due to environmental reviews and the like. >> we plan on having this development move very quickly because the region needs it. >> bobby says they're generating interest from all major league sports. he points to the nfl and la as examples of what can happen in oakland. >> i didn't ever think i'd see

20 years with los angeles without a team, but i did, and now they have two. >> how can you bring in more revenue? uh- stadiums are often the centerpiece of these relocations, so there's a lot of questions for a local group in terms of how would you attract a new team here? >> matthew atencio is co-director for the center of sports and social justice at cal state east bay. he says oakland is a strong sports market, but points to tough competition from cities like seattle for an expansion team. and though the coliseum is available, it's in need of massive upgrades. he believes this could be an opportunity to build something from the ground up instead of another billionaire parachuting a team into oakland, a team that's maybe more community based, >> a bit more entrenched in the voice of the people here. in many ways, that's maybe the future of pro sports. >> alameda county still has to sign off on one more document, which bobbit says will happen by the end of the year. in oakland, anser hassan, abc seven news. >> meanwhile, the final oakland

a's homestand helped bart hit post pandemic ridership records this week, three days in a row, the agency saw more than 200,000 riders on tuesday, wednesday and thursday, thanks to fans heading to the coliseum. there were nearly 225,000 trips on bart thursday alone. the last game a post pandemic record. still, though, that's about 53% of the pre-pandemic weekday average. as you head out the door, here's frances with what to expect. good morning. >> okay, there's a light breeze. you can see the flags blowing right now, but plenty of sunshine for inland areas and around the bay. the beaches on the cooler side with partly cloudy conditions even this afternoon. and then i'll let you know how much warmer things will be next week. >> frances. thank you. also next, a bill to make streets safer signed by the governor. what upgrades may soon come to a busy san francisco street? and a night market takes over the

12. there's a new effort to make streets safer for pedestrians. governor gavin newsom signed legislation aimed at preventing traffic related deaths on state owned roads across the state. it's a plan championed by state senator scott wiener. he pushed the governor to sign it while standing on parts of san francisco's lombard street, the scene of two deadly crashes earlier this month. you see on this map a 70 year old woman and a 1552 year old man that is both hit and killed by drivers. abcss explains what this other bill would do. >> big yellow signs now mark two locations along san francisco's lombard street earlier this month. a middle aged man and an elderly woman were killed by drivers in two separate incidents within the span of

just ten days. >> people drive in countries all over the world, but, but the us is an outlier in terms of the rate of death. and serious injury on our roads. >> state senator scott wiener has for years pushed legislators in sacramento to enact new laws, making streets more pedestrian friendly. on friday, he held a news conference to urge governor gavin newsom to sign a bill that would require new cars sold after the year 2030 to have technology installed in them. that would alert drivers if they were going ten miles or more over the speed limit. a measure that jodie medeiros of walk san francisco says would save lives. >> we don't want another person to never come home, never be at the dinner table, never get to go to their kid's sococcer gagar their granddaughter's wedding. >> during friday's event, wiener also taking time to celebrate newsom signing into law a second bill earlier in the morning. the bill will improve infrastructure on state routes around california. some of those improvements could be as simple as installing a crosswalk on roads that need them. others

would be more intricate, with wiener saying whatever improvements are made depending on each individual road, it could be just. >> traffic calming measures to try to slow down traffic. it could be shortening crossing distances. >> wiener says he knows the bills won't stop every death from happening. but with 4000 traffic related fatalities occurring every year around the state, he believes something needs to change. >> those 4000 deaths do not include all the people who now have brain damage, who are quadriplegics, who have lost a leg. >> governor newsom has until monday to decide whether or not to sign the other bill. in san francisco. tim johns, abc seven news. >> a small win for california's reparations efforts. governor gavin newsom signed a bill into law formally apologizing for the state's role in slavery and decades of anti-black policies. the legislation was part of a package of reparation bills introduced this year, but was the only one that passed this cycle. advocates for reparations

say the apology does not go far enough. >> it feels somewhat like a slap in the face for the governor to sign this apology bill. the day after he vetoed one of the bills, specifically, sb 1050, that would have provided restitution and compensation for black americans who had their property taken by the state of california. >> lawmakers say they'll try to bring the other reparations bills back next legislative session. a reminder to watch the abc seven originals documentary. california's case for reparations. it dives into the groundbreaking work of the reparations task force, examining many of the bills that came out of it. it's now streaming on demand on the abc seven bay area app. today, assembly member evan lowe is hosting a public safety town hall for santa clara county. community members can attend to hear updates about their neighborhoods and weigh in on public safety issues. it's happening at the sunnyvale orchard pavilion from 9 a.m.

until 11 a.m. today. county sheriff bob johnson will also be there to answer questions. the town hall comes as we get closer to election day. lowe, of course, is running against former san jose mayor sam liccardo. thousands of people will be getting their steps in in the south bay, and they'll also be helping to raise funds during the annual walk to end alzheimer's. it all starts today at lake cunningham park in san jose. check in started at 8:00 and the official walk starts at 930. the walk is free to participate in, and you can also put in a donation on the event's website. the silicon valley event has raised nearly $2 million, and our own amanda delcastillo and zach fuentes are going to be emcees there today. francis. and certainly going to be a nice day, but need a jacket. you said earlier. >> well, in san jose it's already getting really warm and plenty of sunshine there. you probably won't need a jacket at all today in san jose. and yeah, amanda and zach are already out

there getting ready to emcee the event. if they haven't already started, here's a look at what to expect for the walk to end alzheimer's in san jose. so temperatures are already warm with blue skies out there 66 degrees right now, and then the walk starts at 930. as stephanie mentioned, it will be getting warm. in fact, rising into the 70s by 11:00 this afternoon. and by lunchtime, already 78 degrees. and here's why. you don't need a jacket there in san jose. look at how clear it is where it's currently 65 right now, but in san francisco, definitely. you will need a jacket. san francisco's 57. oakland and hayward at 61 degrees. redwood city 56, half moon bay 55 degrees. and then from mount tam, you see a mix of those low clouds spilling in from the coast and santa rosa. it's also been cool. 51 degrees petaluma 52, napa 53 fairfield, though where we're getting more sunshine 58 in concord and livermore already at 60 degrees. here's a look at live doppler

seven. so we had some coastal clouds spilling in. in fact, it has reduced visibility with lots of fog and half moon bay down to half a mile visibility. and petaluma just got socked in recently to be careful if you're driving along 101 in petaluma or highway one along the san mateo county coastline, here's what you can expect for highs today. they'll range from 60s at the beaches to low 90s inland, so with partial clearing, half moon bay only 62, san francisco 68, oakland 72. and then check out some of the low 90s in antioch and livermore. it's going to be comfortable, though. in san rafael, 83 napa 82 degrees. clouds move in overnight. temperatures will wake up to early morning will be in the mid to upper 50s around the bay, and some low 50s in parts of the north bay. now i want to show you the week ahead because you need to be ready for this heat wave that's going to be coming next week on monday. so tomorrow we actually just are going to be slightly cooler closer to average. but monday we really warm up. tuesday will be the

hottest day of the week. we could be 20 degrees above average for example, in san jose near 100 degrees. we hang on to that heat on wednesday before things start to come down towards the end of the workweek. so here's monday, what it looks like for everybody, even san francisco. could be 81 degrees, san jose 93. check out tuesday all the triple digit heat almost everywhere except right at the beach and right around the bay. so lots of triple digits. santa rosa, sonoma all the way down through the inland east bay, even san jose getting close to 100. and then wednesday still going to be very hot, but it starts to cool down, still well above average. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. cooler today. slightly cooler tomorrow, near average, but then sunny and warmer monday. the hottest day will be tuesday with fire risk for the 1st of october increasing. we'll be

fun happening today. the portola music festival returns to san francisco. one of the big headliners is rufus du sol. i got your brown. if you're a fan, you know their hit song treat you better. and that's the goal for neighbors this year to this year's festival will look a little different. so the noise does not disrupt surrounding areas. over the last two years, people living in alameda said they could hear the music and feel the vibrations all the way from san francisco. according to the chronicle, organizers are making some changes this year. that includes rotating one of the stages so they face away from the water and there will also be more shipping containers up to block sound from traveling. performances will end a little earlier tomorrow night. the fall season of the alonzo king lines ballet opened last night and runs through tomorrow at the yerba buena center for the arts. the production is paying tribute to the

groundbreaking jazz musician alice coltrane. abc seven news anchor julian glover spoke to the choreographer and the dancers. >> with every movement, there is a story and with every note. there's a message. as these dancers put the final touches on the alonzo king lines ballet fall season premiere. >> go for it. make a big mistake. but you experiment with what you've built all your life. you want to test it. >> that is the namesake of the company. alonzo king, the visionary choreographer and ballet master. fine tuning this production. it's a nod to the legendary jazz musician alice coltrane. >> she deserves a closer look and an honor and she's phenomenal. >> king sat down with us to discuss the personal importance of this work. >> alice was one of the first ballets that i ever choreographed two years ago. she has combined the east and the

west in a devotional, lo god. and so to return to journey into satchidananda, which is one of the works, has been, a beautiful experience because i see it differently and deeper and hear it differently. >> that's exactly what king asked of his dancers to dig deeper, to be bolder as they showcase their artistry to the world. ag sissoko has been with the lyons ballet company for a decade. for her, this production is special. >> i feel like it's less me just deciding everything, but also like through the music. it's almost like it's within me and then it's guiding my movement and it guides like where i hold how i play, how i interact with her, along with the premiere of the work set to the music of alice coltrane, the fall season will also feature king's latest work for the san francisco symphony, set to ravel's mother

we'll see some upper 70s to low 80s, but at the beaches we've got fog and low clouds most of the day. so temperatures hover in the low to mid 60s. and then stephanie, i'll talk about the big warm up that's heading our way, especially for the 1st of october. we're seeing triple digit heat for many areas, so there could be some heat risk that will also keep an eye on. >> okay, great. thank you francis. halloween has been wreaking havoc since it touched down in florida. the death toll rose overnight. at least 52 people are dead and millions of others are without power. currently, 145 mile per hour winds have toppled trees, and several areas are flooded from the severe rains. abc news reporter faith abubey has more on the damage. residents are now waking up to this morning. >> devastation in florida keaton beach obliterated after being hit with the full wrath of hurricane helene. >> it's just sad. and keaton

beach, nothing. that's it. >> helene's destructive reach, now seen across five states. >> the priority now is saving lives in erwin, tennessee, flood waters surrounding this hospital. >> more than 50 patients and staff trapped on the roof. rescue helicopters rushing in. this video taken from the roof showing one of those choppers approaching evacuations, had initially begun, but with the water moving in so quickly, they were forced to retreat to higher ground. >> everybody was airlifted off by helicopters. we had three from tennessee and two from virginia. it was extremely windy, very gusty, so unfortunately we had to wait to get those helicopters in the air. >> in charlotte, one person dying after a tree fell on this home, and an ef three tornado touching down in rocky mount, north carolina. cars slammed into the side of this restaurant here in atlanta. vehicles abandoned on sunken streets. the

owner of this vehicle fleeing, leaving so quickly the windshield wipers were still running. atlanta swift water teams rescuing dozens of people. we were there when they carried out the hall family and their neighbors. >> we knew we were stuck. once we saw that there was a car in the in the front area, as well as probably having a up to 6 to 7ft of water. >> and in valdosta, the small business ripped down brick by brick. and in cedar key residents saying there isn't a business left standing, however bad we imagined it would be when we were fighting this thing in the darkness. >> it's so much worse in the daylight. >> resident michael bob is sharing these images from that historic storm surge thursday night. >> i was trying to make it to my mama's house, but it's neck deep here. i'm not able to get any further this is the museum. oh, no. it's chest deep here. now, i'm not going to be able to go

much further. >> it's about to be over my hea. >> the u.s. department of health and human services has declared a public health emergency in georgia. georgia's governor will visit some of the hardest hit areas today to survey the damag. overseas. now, israel killed hezbollah's leader of more than three decades, hassan nasrallah. he reportedly died following israel's airstrikes on southern beirut in lebanon, where thousands of civilians have been displaced. you're looking at new video showing smoke rising from beirut. this morning after being pummeled by those strikes. hezbollah also launched dozens of projectiles across israel. prime minister benjamin netanyahu cut his u.s. visit short to return to israel in a speech at the united nations, he vowed israel's campaign against hezbollah would continue. right now, nasa and spacex are preparing to launch a crew to the international space station. and here is a live look. just a momentarily ago, we had a live

look of the crew members preparing for liftoff inside of the capsule, and it appears that the feed there is just paused momentarily. the spacex capsule is expected to bring home the crew of boeing's starliner next year. you might remember that includes the u.s. astronauts butch wilmore and suni williams. abc news reporter gio benitez has what's expected just hours from now and liftoff this morning, nasa and spacex are gearing up for liftoff to launch the critical mission that will eventually bring two astronauts back to earth from the international space station. >> all of our missions have unique challenges, and this one, i think, will be memorable for a lot of us astronauts. >> butch wilmore and suni williams flew to the iss aboard boeing's troubled starliner back in june. their eight day mission turning into eight months. the spacecraft suffering a series of helium leaks and thruster problems. nasa deciding it was ultimately too risky to fly them home. the two now returning in february on spacex's crew

dragon. >> safety has been our top priority from the get go, so we treat each one with the same level of safety evaluation and concerns, which is really rigorous. certainly, their first time flying on space vehicle, the crew dragon spacecraft was set to carry four astronauts to the iss for a routine science mission. >> now the capsule is going up with two empty seats now reserved for butch and sunny's return. nasa also releasing these images of the emergency seating built on the space station to put on a crew dragon. if the astronauts have to evacuate from the space station. if there is a catastrophic event or an extreme medical emergency. >> i'll just say that the international space station is ready and excited to receive the vehicle and its crew. we are looking forward to the docking that was. >> gio benitez reporting. butch and sunny are expected to return to earth next spring. now to a consumer alert. millions of p-g-and-e's customers will see a credit on their account next month. it's part of the

california climate credit, a program that requires power plants and other greenhouse gas emitters to purchase carbon pollution permits. the state redistributes these funds to customers as a natural gas credit in april and electricity credits in april and october. now, customers will receive about $55 in their accounts. no action necessary. california's largest home insurer says that it could be dropping nearly 1 million policies over the next four years. state farm has not written any new homeowner policies since last year. the company told over 70,000 of their customers it would not be renewing their policies. wildfire season in the state has caused many insurance companies, at least seven of the largest, to raise their rates or leave the state entirely. state farm is no exception. of course, they are asking the california department of insurance to raise rates by 30%. this is something we've covered extensively with seven on your side. if you have

attend santa clara university, long beach high school, or riley gore hopes to make that dream a reality next fall. >> well, i mean, obviously it's so beautiful here, and i have a few family members who work here and who have gone here. so i'm just touring and seeing, like the more inside scoop. and i just love it. i love it here. >> but to reap these benefits, students have to get past a high sticker price. what might it cost? an incoming freshman. >> incoming freshman? i think the total like room and board and everything is like close to 80,000. >> would it be even more interesting to come here if there was free tuition? >> yes, of course. i feel like free tuition is just. it's a sell for anyone. >> and now it's possible it's known as the santa clara university promise. clearing the path for students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, to become a scu bronco. >> this takes the barrier out of can i afford it? and those students who, again, have spent so much dedicated time and commitment and their families, you know, we want to give them

in petaluma, down to zero miles an hour. so be careful along that stretch. if you're driving there and only half a mile visibility right now in half moon bay, socked in also at the golden gate bridge, where right now in san francisco, it's 57 degrees, but we're seeing some 60s around other parts of the bay area, like oakland, 62, hayward 61, san jose sunshine, 65 degrees, redwood city 57, half moon bay 55. and so from the east bay hills, you're seeing lots of blue skies. so we do see some of the low clouds filling in over parts of the bay. and in santa rosa and petaluma. that's where it's been cooler, low 50s also napa 53, but fairfield, concord and livermore with that sunshine close to 60 degrees right now. so here's what you can expect for your highs today. it is cooler overall, but really still comfortable in san jose at 85 this afternoon. gilroy 88, morgan hill 89. and then along the peninsula. look for numbers to be in the 70s and near 80. redwood city 81, los alto 77. but then along the coastline,

notice temperatures only hover in the low to mid 60s pretty much all day long because of the cloud cover. daly city 64, downtown san francisco 68. north bay numbers also range from 67. in sausalito, all the way up to 96 in ukiah. in santa rosa and sonoma, 88 degrees in san rafael, 83. we've got really comfortable weather, low 70s for the east bay, like berkeley, oakland, 72. but union city, fremont near 80 degrees and then inland areas coming down low 90s, even some upperthere in wad also in pleasanton. now overnight, the clouds will roll in once again. temperatures will drop into the mid 50s and even some upper 50s around the bay in the north bay generally where we see our coolest numbers. so santa rosa and napa in the low 50s. and then here's a look at what you can expect the next ten days in napa. our normal high is about 83. so today and tomorrow

about that. some areas will drop tomorrow by a couple degrees or so and then get ready for the heat monday. it really ramps up. tuesday will probably be the hottest day of the week. we hold on to that near triple digits still on wednesday, before things start to fall towards the end of the week and then we're closer to average. so here's a look at some of those numbers. so pick your neighborhood. what you'll notice on monday it really warms up. even san francisco getting up to 81 degrees san jose 93 degrees. and then check out tuesday. this is where we could see widespread triple digit heat. we'll find hundreds almost everywhere except at the beaches and right around the bay. so some areas above 100 like santa rosa, even fairfield, 103, san jose getting close to that and even san francisco near 88 degrees. then wednesday still warm. but it is going to cool down quite a bit more. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so cooler
