excessive heat warnings and advisories in effect. >> now here's a live look at the conditions outside. for details on the dangerous heat, let's go to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. >> yeah, dan and ama. it was just the start of this excessive heat that we're dealing with. this dangerous heat wave did set records. let me show you the high temperatures for today. 105 in san rafael, 102 in santa rosa and 100 in san jose. all of those were records. kentfield also hit a record at 100 degrees, breaking the old record of 97. you will notice there were plenty of triple digits from napa to concord to livermore. it was 97. in oakland, 94 degrees in san francisco, surpassing the last time we were in the low 90s, which was two years ago, 74, in half moon bay. excessive heat warnings and heat advisories up until 11 p.m. tomorrow. this is because the risk of heat related illnesses is elevated. you look at those temperatures right now, it's still very warm in many areas, 80s and 90s for many of you, some areas in the 70s air

quality is good to moderate, but it has been poor in pockets, which is why that spare the air alert was extended through tomorrow moderate to poor air quality. and as you look at tomorrow's high temperatures, 107 in concord and morgan hill tomorrow, 104 in san rafael. getting up into the mid 90s from palo alto to oakland. san jose 103 90. in the city, 80 degrees in half moon bay. i'll be back to let you know exactly when you might see these temperatures backing off ama. all right, sandhya, thank you so much. san francisco residents are taking this heat wave very seriously. in fact, out of an abundance of caution, all outside san francisco unified school district, athletic related activities were canceled. today that included middle school soccer, baseball, and softball games, as well as some high school practices. abc seven news reporter dion lim has more on how people tried to keep cool today. on this hottest day, san francisco has seen since october 19th, 2022. we started out outside the ferry building. >> so far, right now it's just

everyone's already ordered. like the cold drinks, nitro and like everything ice. so far, a few hot drinks for the crazies. >> the mission district is generally the hottest place in the city, where temperatures spiked over 92 degrees by monday afternoon. sf rec and park even announced free swimming at public pools from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at garfield center. the lifeguard says he's seen double the number of swimmers, though, at the splash pad outside. >> unfortunately, the babies are not enthused, but i know that my five year old would. >> she'd love it at least the adults had some fun. oh my god. by 11 a.m, the mercury was rising and at this group's twice weekly soccer game. >> we were here yesterday and it was hot. i'm surprised folks came back today. >> there were some heat related modifications. >> when the ball goes out, everyone runs to the shade for a little bit. >> up next, kulfi creamery, an indian inspired ice cream shop. >> any weather is a good excuse to eat ice cream, but hot weather is you know, more than enough reason. >> we found plenty of nearby

abc seven bay area apps. you can follow the forecast with the same live doppler seven tools that our weather team use every day, and find tips to stay cool. >> a gas leak has forced people to be evacuated from their homes in one san francisco neighborhood. tonight, the area is south of paul avenue between crane and car streets. the san francisco fire department says the leak started this morning and was caused by a construction crew. p-g-and-e's came in and is trying to fix the leak. muni is offering busses with air conditioning as a refuge. there is no estimate as to when the leak will be fixed, and people will be allowed back into their homes. >> developing news now in the middle east, where tensions continue to rise after iran fires hundreds of ballistic missiles into israel. iran says the strike was in retaliation for weeks of israeli airstrikes in lebanon. as cnn's michael yoshida reports, the u.s. is now working with israel to assess the full scope of the damage. >> yo bombs and sirens could be heard throughout israel tuesday

and tel aviv. the starry night, filled with what resembled to be shooting stars, were actually some of about 200 ballistic missiles, according to the pentagon sent from iran, who says it focused on israeli security and military targets. >> based on what we know now, the attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective. >> the attack not surprising. this all comes after israel's launch of a ground operation in southern lebanon targeting iran backed hezbollah and israel assassinating hezbollah's leader, hassan nasrallah in a strike in beirut on friday. israeli airstrikes in lebanon have killed at least seven high ranking hezbollah officials in recent weeks. tuesday's attack, sharply rebuked by the u.s. >> this is totally unacceptable and the entire world should condemn it. >> we call on iran to halt any further attacks, including from its proxy forces, during the attack. the u.s. military coordinated closely with the israeli defense forces to help defend israel. >> iran's president posted a warning on social media platform

x on tuesday, saying, quote, this action was in defense of the interests and citizens of iran to let netanyahu know that iran is not belligerent, but it stands firmly against any threat. do not enter into a conflict with iran. the attack garnered a response from israel to iran. it too, had a warning. >> iran made a big mistake tonight and it will pay for it. >> in washington, i'm michael yoshida reporting. >> former house speaker nancy pelosi weighed in on the missile strike while she was in san francisco today. we asked her if she thinks the strike will force the u.s. to become more involved in middle east conflicts. >> well, i hope not. i hope we don't have more conflict, but the fact is, is that iran has been a source of funding for hezbollah, for hamas. they have been dangerous for the world. and i hope they get a lesson from having all of their missiles shot down. >> pelosi went on to say u.s. national security adviser jake

sullivan continues to work with the israeli prime minister, benjamin netanyahu, in hopes of reaching a peace agreement and as the threat of a greater regional war continues to rise, some americans are stuck trying to leave. >> one south bay woman left her family behind and paid $2,000 for a one hour flight to egypt to try to escape. abc seven news reporter anser hassan has her story. >> christina darrow spent the past month in lebanon visiting her father, who retired there. she grew up in the bay area and visited lebanon every summer as a child. but following the recent escalation in violence, she's stuck. >> i've seen the unimaginable. i've seen things that you only you know, hear on the news or see on the movies. and i don't believe that i'm actually living it. we have israeli war jets flying over our house. >> darrow was supposed to return to san jose last friday, but her flight was canceled following israel's assassination of hezbollah leader hassan nasrallah followed by israeli airstrikes. she says the biden administration has done nothing to help stranded americans.

>> i'm getting updates on my iphone saying america is doing everything they can to get out there. american citizens, that's not true. >> darrow is in lebanon with her brother, who lives in the east bay. they called and emailed the u.s. embassy. she says they were given few options. stay in lebanon or find their own flight out. >> biden three days ago said he was going to bring ships here, but then he backed out two days ago. we're literally stranded here. we have so many american friends. there's no way for us to get out. >> then there's the risk of just getting to the airport in the south of beirut, close to the military operation, literally deir, the area that israel is bombing is the airport. >> i just got a notification on my phone as israel asking people in that area to evacuate. that's the only way to get out. it's terrifying. >> but darrow knows the window to get out is also closing. so she paid $2,000 for a one hour flight to cairo, documenting the destruction on the road to the airport. several hours later, she contacted abc seven news after arriving in cairo.

of a jury. the chronicle reports jurors began deliberations today in the case of devon williams, prosecutors say in 2022, williams killed a couple inside their dublin home because he was jealous of their relationship. they say he had previously dated one of the victims, mago, a colombian restaurant on piedmont avenue in oakland, was broken into not once but twice, just a few hours apart this morning. >> this video, which shows some damage, comes from restaurant owner michael lieberman. he says about $3,500 worth of equipment, tools and a few hundred dollars in cash was stolen. the break ins occurred this morning at 215 and 6:45 a.m, respectively, and is the third time the restaurant has been burglarized in san francisco. >> right now, the city is

considering a proposal that would essentially ban overnight parking for recreational vehicles. the proposal is being hotly debated. at a meeting of the municipal transportation agency, as seen as a crackdown on the unhoused. our views would only be towed if the people living in them refuse an offer of shelter from the city. the discussion started this afternoon and has gone for on several hours, with public the public getting its chance to weigh in. >> my neighbor living in an rv this morning mentioned that his friends have waited more than 20 days in the past to even receive shelter. folks who have lived in shelters know about how insufficient they are for families and folks living with their pets. another neighbor mentioned that when he finally got his thought, he had to leave within two weeks. anyway why evict people towing and impounding their homes which are private and secure for this false promise of shelter? >> a vote is expected tonight. >> the crisis surrounding the san francisco unified school district was front and center at city hall today. a special hearing was held by the board of

supervisors over special education resources. the district initially came up short on funding and resources. the school board president and superintendent talked about what happened, what happened with special education staffing this summer was completely unacceptable, and there were a number of other issues that we have uncovered on the board of education in the past month that were also unacceptable. >> one of the reasons why it was so hard to understand why the increase was requested, and if we really needed it, because in our current system, we did. we have human resources and payroll data in one system, one environment, and our financial system in another environment. and they do not talk to each other well, the city has called in a stabilization team to deal with the issues facing the school district. >> all right. we need to check on our weather because it was another scorcher today. >> it was kind of nice to see the sun go down. yes it started to cool off. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here with more sandy. yeah. >> and this dangerous heat wave

is going to continue tomorrow. ama and dan, let's take a look at your 24 hour temperature change. we are running warmer just about everywhere by ten degrees in san jose, 11 in santa rosa, up nine, oakland, san francisco six degrees. look at some of our hilltop temperatures. it is still very warm to hot 93 at atlas peak. 92 big rock ridge right now 88 in the oakland hills, 87 east foothills and mount diablo, 84 degrees. just an indication of what's going on with our atmosphere. the other thing that is concerning, as you take a look at the humidity values there in the teens for places like fairfield, 18 degrees percent in concord, 17% in livermore. so when you combine all these factors along with really dry fuels out there, there's red flag warning for parts of monterey and san benito counties that begins tomorrow morning at three runs until 8 p.m. thursday. they are facing critical fire weather conditions. the combination of the very dry fuels, low humidity

and gusty winds prompting this and that. red flag warning extends down towards parts of southern california as well. so we're not the only ones dealing with the fire danger. let's talk about the fire danger. we're not expecting strong winds here in the bay area. as a matter of fact, the winds have been pretty light, but in the hills it has been breezy. and so when you look at the fire danger index, it reflects the fact that we're once again, as we go into the heat of the day tomorrow, going to notice moderate to high fire danger for our inland areas, including the hilltops. so just remain aware, especially in october. a live view from our east bay hills camera right now, visibility is just terrific. you can see for miles from our exploratorium camera looking at san francisco, where it is close to 80 degrees. and what time is it? eight, 2883 degrees right now in oakland, 88 in san jose, very warm. redwood city, 8763 in half moon bay. right now from our golden gate bridge camera, the skies are clear. it is 86,

in santa rosa, 80 in napa, mid 80s concord and livermore. high pressure is the controlling factor with the downsloping winds. once again with this heat wave, we are expecting major to extreme heat risk around the bay and inland. so the biggest change from today is now we've got extreme which is indicated in the purples here. reds is major. so just be aware of the fact that as this heat has been building, it's going to be taxing on your body. san jose camera it is a live view right now. beautiful one dangerous heat wave again with records tomorrow. fire danger continues. breezy in the hills and dry. now here's the only little glimmer of hope friday heat briefly eases i know that's not what you want to hear, but let's talk about the temperatures tonight. still pretty warm inland at 11 p.m. we're looking at 60 to 80 heading into tomorrow morning. starting off clear temperatures at 7:00 already in the 60s and 70s rapidly warming by the lunch hour. and we head into the afternoon and you're going to be seeing those temperatures

soaring once again. most areas will be in the 80s to 100 seconds. it is going to be another warm to hot evening tomorrow. so a lot of the homes don't have air conditioning here in the bay area, and it is hard to cool off, especially when you don't have a strong wind spare. the air is in effect for tomorrow as well. 50 to 70 to start your day tomorrow afternoon. that dangerous heat wave continues. we're talking about 107 in morgan hill, 103 in san jose, on the peninsula, 101 in redwood city, mountain view, 9580 at the coast, 90, in downtown san francisco, down four degrees 84 daly city, north bay. temperatures triple digits from san rafael to santa rosa. vallejo heading into the east bay. mid 90s oakland berkeley 100, in castro valley. inland areas 107. concord 108. in livermore. these temperatures a good 20 to 25 degrees above average. the accuweather seven day forecast. it is going to be a dangerous day tomorrow. upper 100 seconds inland 80s coast. the heat eases thursday, some

relief on friday and then back up again. unfortunately, on saturday we'll have to wait until early next week dan and ama to get some real relief. okay. >> all right. thanks, andrea. >> well, hundreds of people are still missing after hurricane helene washed away entire communities, killing at least 159 people in states. most almost half of those deaths are in north carolina, where john norwood and his fiancee were sheltered at a friend's house when the storm arrived. a mudslide then took out the home. first responders pulled john to safety. his fiancee, julie larue, is still missing. >> we looked outside and there was a 30 foot tall wall of water and rocks and tree debris just coming at us. i crawled around screaming, looking for it. i just couldn't find it. >> with power and cell service cut off in many areas, some are communicating with markers and white boards, leaving updates on who is still missing. thousands of volunteers, fema workers and national guard members are on the ground now. president biden is expected to visit the region tomorrow. and while the

southeastern u.s. continues to recover, californians are doing their part to help. the governor's office of emergency services is coordinating with fema, sending 172 incident support team and urban search and rescue team members to help. that includes 91 people in south carolina conducting searches in flood and mud debris areas. 18 swift water members are in north carolina searching for adverse flood conditions there, and 12 will be based in orlando doing various field operations in that part of the country. >> actor john amos has died. his family announced today. he died from natural causes about six weeks ago on august 21st. amos is best known for starring in the sitcom good times and for his emmy nominated performance as older kunta kinte in roots. he also had memorable performances as restaurant owner cleo mcdowell in the hit 80s comedy coming to america, and as admiral percy fitzwallace in the west wing. john amos was 84. >> next. today. history made in

mexico city, and while being a trailblazer, she also has ties to the bay area, having attended stanford and uc berkeley. >> reporter anabel munoz, from our sister station in los angeles, was there for the inauguration and has more. reporter >> the president is what supporters chanted throughout the day, as mexico's president, claudia sheinbaum pardo, took office. the first woman to do so in the country's 200 year history. among those in attendance, california governor gavin newsom and first partner jennifer siebel newsom. the governor said in part, her

swearing in marks a pivotal moment not only for mexico, but for women and girls around the world and presents a new opportunity to further deepen the strong and enduring ties between california and our southern neighbor. outside of the national palace in el zocalo, the president participated in an indigenous and afro-mexican ceremony in which these communities handed her a baton. and this became a presidential tradition under her predecessor, andres manuel lopez obrador, who says this is a symbol of indigenous communities and of the poorest of this country, something that has been central to their populist agenda. >> at toda las heroinas anonimas, during her remarks, sheinbaum paid tribute to anonymous heroines like grandmothers who didn't learn to read or write because school was not for girls. >> among those in the crowd was fabiola resendiz, an educator colectivo. she says the celebration is collective that they're here, giving this moment meaning that change is present and it is a woman. anabel munoz abc seven news.

yes. >> this man battling parkinson's disease took in a tenant at his santa rosa home to help pay the bills. but that tenant turned out to be a nightmare. >> and he also turned out to be the ex-boyfriend of fashion designer calvin klein. >> the landlord asked the i-team's dan noyes to look into the case after the tenant filed a big lawsuit. and dan, you are here with the story. >> well, dan, nick gruber got used to the spotlight as calvin

klein's partner. they had a 48 year age difference, and he had some very public controversies. tonight he agreed to talk to me about his criminal record and this latest complaint that he was a problem tenant during the pandemic. richard jones and his husband, alfonso monreal, were looking for a roommate, someone to help pay the bills at their santa rosa home. jones is battling parkinson's disease. you came to us to tell the story. why? >> i don't want this to happen to anybody else. just take your. i'm sorry. >> a friend introduced jones and his husband to nick gruber. he made a good first impression. >> he didn't give it a very nice guy. he was young. he's single. so he said he's just very polite. >> i did my research. i did a background check and i was like, oh, okay. calvin klein's ex boytoy ex-boyfriend nick gruber, made frequent appearances in the tabloids after he began seeing calvin klein in 2010. >> the fashion designer's first

public same sex relationship. gruber was 20 years old when it started. calvin klein, 68. their romance inspired an off-broadway play. >> i just flew across the country to be with you. so maybe we could send the party boys home and spend some time together. >> i live here. you don't have to be so visiting. >> all the attention had an effect on gruber. but you go from just, like a normal guy to paparazzi hounding you on the street and the red carpet with calvin klein and all that. your head must have been spinning. >> i mean, i guess i was chasing the lights. i said it was all glam and famous. i guess it could have been a culture shock, but i was able to adapt to it really quickly, i enjoyed it. >> gruber tells me his relationship with calvin klein ended after two years because he got caught up in new york's party lifestyle after the separation. >> you know, the drugs kind of followed me a little bit and it haunted me over the years, and it's something i had to deal

with. >> gruber's run ins with the law over drugs and sometimes guns continued. when he began living with richard jones and his husband in 2021. you were dealing drugs at that point in time. >> i wasn't i was in the drug industry, at the time. yes. >> i'm hearing you making a difference between selling drugs and being in the drug industry. if you don't want me to use the expression selling drugs, can you describe for me what you were doing in the drug industry? >> i was a broker. i would call the clients, and then i would get a hold of that person. who the supplier and arrange the deals. >> it's a nice neighborhood. >> neighbors recall cars coming and going late into the night, cars pulling up in front of the house, and, you know, somebody going in for a while and then coming out. what did the neighbors think was going on? >> we suspected it was some sort of drug activity. >> it all ended when santa rosa police responded to a call for a tenant landlord dispute, checked nick gruber's record, and learned that he was on probation

for a prior criminal conviction, and he was required to submit to warrantless search and seizure of his person, vehicle and property. police searched the part of the house that gruber used this bedroom and this locked closet. >> a search of the closet uncovered a locked safe, which, when opened, had a semiautomatic handgun approximately 9 pounds of methamphetamine, and $10,000 worth of cash. >> police arrested gruber and charged him with possession for sale of a controlled substance with a special allegation for excess methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon, identity theft and forgery. >> what's going on? i really i would really like to know what's going on. we're just finishing our probation. >> we're solving a problem for you now. >> okay. thank you, i appreciate it. >> richard and anthony thought their problems had been solved, but gruber got out after two years at high desert state prison. found the couple at their new apartment in oakland and asked for his belongings.

>> because i have a lot of property there. and as a landlord, you have a duty and obligation to protect my property. and he failed to do s. he failed to give my property to my family friend richard jones says he followed his attorney's advice, sending an eviction notice and a letter warning gruber he was going to dispose of his property. >> i waited six months for him to show up and he never showed up, never heard from him. so i donated a bunch of stuff to the mormon church. >> gruber sued jones for breach of contract and valued his property at $182,000. a long list, mostly designer clothes, two prada suits for $10,000. for example, a $10,000 rolex watch and a $10,000 custom calvin klein desk. were all those things actually in that room? yes they were. gruber also saw $233,000 more in damages, but the judge ruled in favor of the landlord and tossed out that part of the lawsuit. and

macgruber could not provide receipts for most of his property. the judge awarded him a total of $8,683. that's a big difference from one 8-80 down yt that? >> i mean, i'm just happy that i was able to win, richard jones tells me after lawyers fees he's broke has no way of paying the $8,000, and that the stress of dealing with nick gruber has made his parkinson's disease symptoms worse. >> very emotional because it's affected me so bad. and still having to fight and have the memories come back. and what i went through, i take it very personally, you with your business, brought a lot of pressure to richard, right? >> you understand? >> right? yes. i mean, i apologize for what has happened. i do from the heart, i apologize, i mean, it shouldn't it shouldn't end that way or shouldn't have ever happened. >> gruber tells me he's been clean and sober for three years, and that he's studying to become

a firefighter. he's also writing a book. he says his time with calvin klein is just one chapter, though there's much more to his story, he claims. what a story. >> yeah. all right. thank you dan. >> well, if you have a story for dan and the i team, go to abc seven news.com slash i-team's. he'd be glad to hear from you. >> the long list of criminal accusations. sean diddy combs faces is getting even longer. 120 more accusers have filed sexual assault lawsuits against the music mogul. cases that date back decades and victims as young as nine and ten years old. reporter josh haskell from our sister station in los angeles has details on the new claims. >> an additional 120 victims have come forward accusing sean diddy combs of sex abuse, including a victim as young as nine years old. according to houston based lawyer tony buzbee, over 3200 people contacted his firm, saying they've been victimized by combs and that number was narrowed down to 120 individual cases to be filed in civil court. the

alleged conduct occurred over a 20 year period. >> this individual, who was nine years old at the time, was taken to a audition in new york city with bad boy records uh- other boys were there to audition as well. all of them were trying to land a record deal. all of them were minors. this individual was sexually abused, allegedly by sean combs and several other people at the studio. in the promise to both his parents and to him himself. of getting a record deal. >> buzbee sang many powerful people will be exposed in court. the victims are made up of 60 men and 60 women from more than 25 states. most of the alleged offenses occurred at parties, and drugs were involved. the accusations include rape, violence, sexual assault, false imprisonment, compelling prostitution and the dissemination of video recordings. buzbee shared an

a program that allows some people waiting for a trial to leave jail and wear an ankle monitor. that's after a judge ruled that the sheriff's office cannot conduct random searches of participants bodies, homes, or cars without a warrant or probable cause. critics argue that those random searches are unconstitutional. sheriff paul miyamoto says he can't keep the community safe without them. >> police in campbell say they caught the man responsible for a string of bb gun shootings. this is a picture of the bb gun. investigators say they found in the car of a 19 year old. police say between september 21st and september 25th, they received numerous reports about windows of businesses and cars being shot at with pellets. surveillance footage led them to the suspect they arrested. >> today, the city of san jose broke ground on a project that will bring 114 new units of emergency interim housing to the south bay. the project will expand the rue ferrari site, located just off highway 101.

and as abc seven news south bay reporter dustin dorsey explains, there are more than 800 units in the pipeline to help offer solutions to the housing crisis. >> for most residents, the excessive heat can be troublesome, but for those living on the streets, it can be deadly. >> we have at this moment something like 4500 people in san jose living out on our streets, in tents and vehicles with incredible uncertainty and fear. >> the triple digit heat in october highlights the need for immediate housing solutions, and under the blazing sun, a groundbreaking for more than 100 new units to house nearly 150 unhoused residents. doubling the capacity of the roof ferrari interim housing site in south san jose. >> we're going to save lives. we're going to give people dignity. we're going to get them connected to supportive services like counseling, job training, drug treatment, you know, family reunification, all the things people need to turn their lives around to say hi is one of the

residents who lives at rue ferrari. >> he's excited to see more people get the same life saving opportunity that he has. >> sleeping outside is not good. it's not safe. without this place, i'll be. yeah, i really appreciate the offers and everybody here and even more people will be helped soon. >> mayor matt mehan says san jose will be adding nearly 800 units over the next 18 months, 200 of those at the multi story brandon and monterey site. it's been delayed since april, but it's finally on schedule to open by the end of 2024. and council member sergio jimenez, district giving us a grand total of about 500 or so units in our district. >> and i don't think that we as residents of this area should shy away from saying it's the right thing to do because as suffering on the streets continue. >> these locations offer a solution. >> this is a place that can help get people off the street, get people into shelter, get people the services that they need to get people back on their feet

advisories and excessive heat warnings going as well. so we're not alone with this heat wave. looking at live doppler seven, there's no fog to speak of your high temperatures tomorrow anywhere from the low 80s at the coast to the upper 100 seconds while inland, 107 in concord, 103 in santa rosa. san jose 95. oakland 90. in the city 80, in half moon bay. thursday. those temperatures will come down a little bit. still triple digits inland. friday we finally get that heat easing coming out of the 100 seconds. on saturday they go back up and the accuweather seven day forecast reflects that brief downturn in temperatures friday. back up for the weekend, but i don't think it's going to be quite as extreme. and then early next week it will be much cooler on monday. >> that will be nice. yes. thank you. >> all right. well maybe buster posey can heat up the giants, right? >> yes. you know what? i'm thinking? tomorrow? poolside sports. oh, yeah. >> yeah. what about the. >> and everybody else? >> no, no, no. just you guys come in the building. i'm going
