criticized the lack of security in the end the university is calling the overall event a success. abc seven news reporter j.r. stone shows us the fired up cal fan base. these guys who play >> espn college gameday personality pat mcafee hyping the cal crowd with nfl great and calaveras alum marshawn lynch. >> beast mode all for the first time ever in berkeley. >> we're here all day, all night. and there's nothing that's going to stop us from having a great time. go bears that interview came during one of our live shots on abc seven mornings. >> i saw, you're done with your breakfast sandwich. you came for the food. >> yes. it's fun to be out here . i mean, it's awesome. like, they didn't think that cal had any fans. this proved them wrong. >> thousands showed up, but

after seeing this turnout and these signs which said things like you couldn't get into cal and if we lose all protests, i think there's a good chance the crew will come back a second time. >> it's pretty wild to see some people just from the bay area go bears. yeah, exactly. this is super exciting. i also really wasn't expecting this many people to show up, but i'm really glad. i'm sure they'll be happy. j.r. stone, abc seven news. >> what a remarkable crowd. >> and here's another neat moment. this was a field goal worth $100,000, kicked by a cal student wearing vans. believe it or not, that is daniel villasenor, who made that 33 yard field goal on his second attempt during the college gameday broadcast. according to our media partners at the bay area news group, he is a civil engineering major and he told the mercury news that he used to play soccer for livermore high school, but had never kicked footballs from that distance ever before. and that kick my dad also raised $600,000 for
9:18 am
hurricane relief. amazing to see that daniel and you may know this guy marshawn lynch, the one and only beast mode, was the celebrity guest picker on game day. and of course, he arrived in style. the cal legend rolled up in a golf cart. and this is actually a callback to 2006 when he drove around the field at memorial stadium on a golf cart to celebrate that win. another fun thing happening this week. san francisco's fleet week starts tomorrow. one of the city's most notable events is returning for its 43rd year. residents and visitors can prepare for a variety of week long events highlighting and honoring the u.s. military. some activities include ship tours, fleet fest, the silent drill platoon, the parade of ships, and, of course, the popular air shows. events kick off tomorrow and will run until monday, october 14th, and it will start with the heat. it's still with us today, but lee's cooling is coming. yes, you know, another unseasonably hot october day on
9:19 am
the way. >> so even though we're going to see a return to a bit of an onshore flow today, more cooling gets going tomorrow. and then by the time fleet week really gets going, we're going to call for a chance of showers. yeah so things are really going to switch up as we get towards the second half of the upcoming workweek. but as we start out right now, you can see some of the high and mid-level clouds indication of a little bit of instability offshore. but really we're looking at that southerly surge and anticipating it later on today. maybe not so much a reformed marine layer, but at least the onshore flow, that marine layer reforming as we get to about tuesday. but we're looking for a wind shift. so that is the good news. so as we look at this picture really tells a good story. zero wind out there usually we see that sea breeze or some puff of wind. we've got some of the clouds and a lot of sunshine out there. temperatures were in the 70s at 5:00 this morning, so they've
9:20 am
warmed up since then and already at 73, san francisco, 76. in oakland, hayward, 79, san jose, mid 70s, mid 60s. redwood city, half moon bay and a beautiful view here we are still looking at a spare the air alerts 74 santa rosa 77, in livermore. so you get the idea. starting out so warm, it's not going to be hard to get into those 80s by noontime time, even 90 inland and once again into the triple digits in limb. so it will be hot all around the bay. our inland valleys potential records, even the coast for short time moves into the 80s. but then i think temperatures will drop off a mixture of high clouds and sun. and eventually that afternoon sea breeze coming up from the south. so relief on the way for the coast today, more so for the bay tomorrow. and then everyone r inland valleys on tuesday. here's a look at that cloud cover. the next 24 to 48 hours, and you'll notice that we just have some of those high clouds continue to
9:21 am
press on in. and then as we get into monday morning, still some cloud cover and there's a little bit of fog underneath those high clouds. and that's when we'll be looking for that wind shift to get even stronger. there's a trough to the north. and so in response to that, we'll get more of that westerly wind as for the next couple of hours, you can see half moon bay. it already picks up to over 20 miles an hour and we try to get in a little bit of a breeze in the north and south bay. but look what happens tomorrow. winds up to about 30 miles an hour along the coast, so from hardly strictly blues into the upper 80s to the castro street fair, we are going to see a warm day today. that sea breeze with a very light westerly wind eventually. and then at the coast, you can see partly cloudy skies there. temperatures will be well into the 80s again, and even 90 up at stinson and the game today, nothing's changed there. 92 100, a scorcher out there. the hottest game we've seen in santa clara, 97 in fremont, 96 in richmond, upper
9:22 am
80, san francisco. and the accuweather seven day forecast. so we are sunny, hot again. spare the air slightly cooler tomorrow and then we'll see that big drop in temperatures throughout the tuesday time frame. and for the second half of the workweek, tracking another weak system that could bring in some unusual weather for fleet week. stephanie. oh, right. liz >> thank you. still ahead. this morning, a woman water bikes to the largest seabird nesting colony south of alaska. and it's right here in the bay area. the inspiration behind her journey next. >> i remember the moment when the truck hit me. there was nothing i can do. the driver here was clearly at fault, but the insurance company kept saying, we're not going to pay. >> we tracked down surveillance footage proving the driver was on his phone when he crashed. but even then, they kept saying, they're not going to pay. >> they're not going to pay, they're not going to pay. but the law brothers fought for me. >> and at the end, they paid

how it works. organic material is dumped to convert the landfill or bio gas into electricity on site. now that electricity is then used to power the renewable natural gas plant, eventually the idea is the renewable natural gas will be piped to a pga receiver station about three miles away from there, it enters the utility's massive pipeline system. that's a strategy designed to repurpose a dangerous greenhouse gas. now, a history making journey took place this week from sausalito to the farallon islands by a local woman via water bike and as abc7 news reporter diane lim found out, this was a ride for a greater cause. >> i think a lot of people thought i was crazy. >> that could be said about jessica schiller's dream of starting a water bike company ten years ago, and definitely about her latest life challenge. >> the first ever bike ride to the farallon islands, 60 miles from the golden gate bridge to the southeast farallon islands,

a water bike challenge no one has taken on before for a reason. i knew that there was going to be rough seas and strong currents, wind and of course its great white shark migration season. so starting before sunrise friday, schiller began her grueling trek, the equivalent to this on land would be like doing probably 150 miles straight on land with a special someone always on her mind, pushing her forward. i call this naomi's ride in honor of the promise i made to my daughter, naomi, who sadly passed away from a fentanyl overdose in july of 2022. >> that promise came true in ten hours. i felt her when i was there, when i had made it to the islands, and i really my first, my first emotion was i broke down and cried. proceeds from schiller's ride will go toward the nonprofit shatterproof, which fights the addiction crisis in america. but beyond that, schiller hopes her journey serves an even bigger purpose to all. >> i hope the lasting impact from this is that it just inspires people and inspires people to get out of their
