had on the game and on fans. new information on a deadly car crash in the north bay. why investigators now say this was no accident. and fleet week has arrived. the story behind some of the massive military ships that have rolled into the bay for this week's events. abc seven news starts right now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. let's go. >> niners. >> the heat wave blanketing the bay area, giving new meaning to the term 40 niners fans today. it's been fans in need of fans as the sun cooked up a new record at levi's stadium. good evening and thank you for joining us i'm dion lim. we'll get to those conditions at the stadium in just a bit. but first let's start with temperatures this evening across the bay area. abc seven news meteorologist frances dinglasan joins us now. and frances, this excessive heat warning is still in effect. yeah. >> until at least 11:00 tonight. and you'll see why with these

temperatures ranging from 90s to triple digits in san francisco, is currently 92 degrees, oakland is 95, hayward 98, san jose right at 100 degrees, redwood city 101, and even half moon bay, where we tend to see the coolest temperatures with fog 91 degrees right now, as we show you more temperatures around the bay area, you'll see many of them above the century mark. for example, saint helena 105, concord 102, santa rosa and sonoma 103 and you'll see triple digits. palo alto, san jose, and gilroy. so with that right now, the heat risk today is major to extreme, but tomorrow it will be dropping and i'll let you know when temperatures will finally head back to normal. dion. >> all right francis, thanks. now we do have a qr code on your screen. for all of our heat stories. you can use your phone or just open your camera and scan the code and it will take you to our website where you'll find the weather forecast, warnings and all of the recent stories we've done about the weather and its impact. 40

niners fans braved scorching hot temperatures in the south bay to watch their team take on the arizona cardinals at levi's stadium, beating the heat was the goal for most fans. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard is live for us in santa clara, with details on what may be a game to remember. cornell, i'm surprised you're not melting out there. >> dion good evening. you know, one fan told us today this is definitely not football weather. so true. still close to about 100 degrees outside of levi's. the niners faithful powering through a scorcher of a game. just trying to keep cool. let's go, let's go ryan ready for battle at levi's stadium. but many were not expecting unsportsmanlike conduct from the weather. it's hot, it's hot. >> it's real hot. it's going to be a toaster in there. >> more like a skillet. levi's setting a new heat record on

sunday with a kickoff temperature of 95 degrees versus the arizona cardinals go niner. pregame tailgating was more like a game of fan survival for many. like david clark and his sons, they put up this tent in record time, finding shade and hydrating. >> definitely lots of water. big hats. >> it was definitely time to break out the old school fans and fancy personal ones too. >> and it sprays water and it's got three speeds. >> laura runco says. bring on the heat. she's ready. >> it's not normal, but i've been out here when it's been freezing, raining, storming and we're in the same spot. so what are you going to do? >> tim stubbs was dousing his wife, jane with a lot of sunscreen protection. >> i mean, i think you need to stay hydrated, apply sunscreen. you know, give yourself the energy to shout niners and those two will help. >> we're here because we're diehard niner fans. >> you know what i'm saying? >> rain or shine, niner faithful

hopefully next game will be a little bit cooler for the fans. we're live in santa clara where it's hot. did i mention that cornell bernard abc seven news. >> cornell, before you go, you are on hot pavement. it's black and it's radiating. i mean, you've been out in the sun all day. what are you doing to stay cool? >> we are hydrating like crazy. lots of water. my photographer had extra water, so he gave that to me. i brought three bottles. i went through that already. but you know, the moment we got here, i was just like, oh my gosh, it is so hot. and it was like 10:45 a.m. so a lot of fans definitely feeling the heat, doing their best to power through. but by the fourth quarter, a lot of the seats were pretty much empty in the stands. so i don't blame folks for taking off early today. >> no, not at all. and we wouldn't blame you if you decided to do the same. cornell, thanks to you. now, as for the game, the 40 niners also started hot. but as you heard from cornell, not necessarily the ending all of those fans were

hoping for. we have chris alvarez joining us live at levi's in a little bit, a little bit later to talk about sports moving on. cal fire says two homes in lake county are destroyed and another one damaged by the so-called glen haven fire. that fire has now grown to more than 400 acres since it ignited friday, forcing evacuations in the community of glen haven. helicopters and retardant dropping airplanes helped stop the spread of the fire. by 10:00 that night, the fire is 35% contained. mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted, but warnings are still in place. the power is back and tourists have returned to alcatraz, the historic prison had been closed since thursday because of a power outage. tourists with tickets for today were relieved to learn the island reopened. >> we're scheduled to go today the whole time, but it gave us a little scare when we did find out about it. >> officials have not said what caused that outage. alcatraz main prison is set to undergo a

major renovation, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027. new details this evening on a car collision in the north bay that killed a person. police now say it's one of multiple crashes caused intentionally by an angry driver. the deadly crash happened just after 2:00 saturday afternoon at rohnert park expressway in stony point road. investigators say the driver of a mazda suv rammed a volkswagen suv from behind and pushed it into the path of an oncoming vehicle. a woman in the passenger seat of the volkswagen was killed, and two other people in that volkswagen. the driver and a child both suffered major injuries. investigators say the driver responsible left the crash scene but was arrested a short time later. they say he is responsible for at least one and possibly three similar road rage incidents earlier in the day. well, just 29 days to go until election day and bay area cities are getting prepared for an influx of voters seeking

information about political races and issues. starting tomorrow, the san francisco department of elections will open its voting center at city hall. the early voting period is designed to assist voters with a range of needs each day through election day, except for october 14th, when indigenous peoples day is observed. most days, the voting center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. a somber anniversary is approaching in the middle east. coming up, a look back at a year's worth of conflict and the event in san francisco to mark one year at war. also, a look ahead to fleet week here in the bay area. the symbolic connection between one of the participating ships and

the war in the middle east, and for the biden administration to enact an arms embargo to israel. this pro-palestinian group held a rally and march with cultural performances in the mission. the fbi is warning the public of potential threats in the u.s. tomorrow, marking a year since the october 7th hamas led attacks on israel. they say it could motivate violent extremists or hate crime perpetrators. san francisco fleet week also begins tomorrow. and this morning, some of the biggest military ships arrived in the bay sailing under the golden gate bridge. those included the uss tripoli and the uss somerset, and sky seven was overhead to capture it all. the uss somerset was named for somerset county, where 40 passengers and crew aboard united airlines flight 93 lost their lives on nine over 11. the plane was on its way to san francisco before it was, and on the uss tripoli, s.f.w is

yeah. and boy, it's hot as we saw from cornell's live shot. >> oh my gosh, it's so hot out there. and i want to show you what it looks like outside from sutro. so blue skies over san francisco. just check out these temperatures. they're so impressive at this time. in fac, in san jose it's still 100 degrees. redwood city, 101. and san francisco has been in the 90s the past couple of days. right now it's 92, oakland 95, hayward 98, half moon bay. even this at 91 degrees. that is much warmer compared to yesterday at this time. also more triple digits in santa rosa 103

petaluma 100 napa. cool at 95 fairfield, concord and livermore all near 100 degrees. so here's a look at live doppler seven. there were some few a few clouds coming in from the south, but not too much. lots of blue skies out there, and so there's still an excessive heat warning in effect for the areas that are highlighted in hot pink, where temperatures again near 105 degrees and also heat advisory for the areas in orange. now, interestingly enough, san francisco is in the excessive heat warning, and that's because we're not used to temperatures this warm. hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. so today we're still in the major to extreme heat risk category. the major is in the red and the extreme is in the purple. tomorrow we will drop down to moderate to major. so that's an improvement. and the reason is the sea breeze. so it will be light tomorrow morning. but it will start to pick up in the afternoon. and that northwest

flow with that sea breeze is going to allow temperatures, especially at the coast, to cool down. however, it's still going to be very mild tonight. in fact, quite warm temperatures generally in the mid 60s. so even if you open up the windows, you'll still need that fan on in antioch, even 74 degrees for the low. but check out the highs tomorrow. you'll notice it will be dropping in some areas. san jose 94. and then on the lower part of the peninsula we'll see some 80s and 90s. redwood city 90, but san mateo down to 83. and then at the beaches will be in the 70s, san francisco downtown, 81 north bay, generally still quite hot in the mid 90s, and the east bay also ranges from mid 80s in berkeley to near 90 in fremont. and then here's also a look at the inland numbers. unfortunately still triple digits, but cooler than what we're experiencing today. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so still hot inland, but the coast side cools. temperatures moderate a little bit more. so we'll drop down by

5 to 10 degrees tomorrow. and then another 5 to 10 degrees on tuesday depending on where you live. and then we see the fog return to the forecast. yay! partly cloudy conditions. now this is interesting. there's even a slight chance of rain on saturday. but we're talking slight chance right now. so some models show bringing us some rain and some models show the system just passing to our north. >> yeah, we still have a few days in between to let's let's not get too excited. yes. all right. let's get to chris alvarez now from a very steamy levi's stadium. hopefully you're surviving out there, chris. >> yeah, it's even hot here down near the tunnel outside the locker room. you guys are wearing the red and gold. i'm wearing the color. how the niners fans feel blue. that was a tough game. niners battling both the cardinals and the heat record breaking heat here at levi's. and the game went down to the wire. and yeah, it was a levi's stunner. we got highlights. reaction from the

the niners are battling two opponents today. record breaking heat. it was 91 degrees at kickoff. it got up into the low hundreds during the game. and an arizona cardinals team hungry for a win. they were desperate entering this one. so we go to the highlights and patrick willis in the house. the hall of famer about the only guy wearing a jacket. but hey he looks good in that gold jacket. niners finally got brandon aiyuk going today. the wide receiver who held in had a slow start to the year. how about a game high 147 yards receiving. including this 53 yard breakout play led to an early 40 niners field goal just inside the red zone there. niners take the lead in the first quarter. brock purdy's 50th career touchdown pass to george kittle made it ten seven. quickest ever in niners history. ten seven after one second quarter, the niners special teams hasn't been great this year, but this will help make up for it. jordan elliott the field goal block and then molinar scoop and score. he's got all kinds of green in front of him wearing the 94 throwbacks. a

little bit of a deion sanders celebration there into the end zone. niners are rolling and looking good. still in the second kyler murray murray intercepted by nick bosa. his second career interception that led to another field goal. the niners were up 23 to 10 at recess. but the cardinals come back under that blazing sun. here's murray. a little lob pass touchdown and the two point conversion. all of a sudden they're down two. niners trying to close it out with six minutes to go. jordan mason. oh no. ball punched out. he loses it and arizona recovers. the cardinals will go on a long drive as their frustration builds. and that led to this. arizona kicking a go ahead field goal with a minute and a half to go. and all of a sudden it's 2423 arizona. stunning the 40 niners faithful. the niners had a chance. last chance for them brock purdy no one picks up a blitzer. ball hit flutters and it's intercepted. and that's your ball game. niners lose a stunner 2423. a quick turnaround thursday night in seattle. >> we had the game won and we
