deadly car crash in the north bay. why investigators now say this was no accident. and fleet week has arrived. the story behind some of the massive military ships that have rolled into the bay for this week's events. abc seven news starts right now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. hey! let's go. >> niners. >> the heat wave blanketing the bay area, giving new meaning to the term 40 niners fans today. it's been fans in need of fans as the sun cooked up a new record at levi's stadium. good evening and thanks for joining us i'm dion lim. we'll get to those conditions at levi's in just a bit. but let's begin with temperatures across the bay area this evening. abc seven news meteorologist frances dinglasan joins us and frances, i stepped outside for just a second. it is still hot out there. >> yeah. and that's why the excessive heat warning is still in effect. and dion this is just hot off the presses. these are the records that were broken

today. we have at least seven records broken in san jose where all the fans were. it broke a record today 103 degrees breaking a record from of 95 degrees from 2023. san francisco broke a record. oakland broke a record san rafael 107 today, breaking a record of 95. in 2023. and even if you check out napa that broke a record from 1930, hitting 102 today. so temperatures are starting to cool down a little bit, but we have more significant cooling in the next couple of days. and i'll show you that with the accuweather seven day forecast. >> and we are looking forward to it. frances. thank you. we do have a qr code on your screen for all of our heat stories. just use your phone to open the camera and scan the code that will take you to our website, where you'll find the weather forecast, warnings, and all of the recent stories we've done about the weather and its impac. now, 40 niners fans braved scorching hot temperatures in

the south bay to watch their team take on the cardinals at levi's stadium. beating the heat was the goal for most fans, though. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has details on a game to remember. let's go, niner niner. >> let's go. ryan. >> niner fans ready for battle at levi's stadium. but many were not expecting unsportsmanlike conduct from the weather. it's hot. >> it's hot. it's real hot. it's going to be a toaster in there. >> more like a skillet. levi's setting a new heat record on sunday with a kickoff temperature of 95 degrees versus the arizona cardinals go niner. pregame tailgating was more like a game of fan survival for many, like david clark and his sons, they put up this tent in record time, finding shade and hydrating. >> definitely lots of water. big hats. >> it was definitely time to break out the old school fans and fancy personal ones too. >> and it sprays water and it's

levi's stadium has complimentary water stations featured across the main concourses, and our guest services locations will have sunscreen available. the niners are showing their strength even when the heat is on. go. niners. we saw quite a few niners fans heading to their cars a bit early, and who can blame them? it's hot in the end. a tough game for the niners. they lost by one point to the cardinals 24 to 23. hopefully next game will be a little bit cooler for the fans in santa clara. cornell, bernard abc seven news this evening, more than two dozen sfpd officers are being honored for their heroism related to the august 31st shooting of 40 niners. >> rookie ricky pearsall, mayor, london breed and assistant chief david lazar recognized police officers during an event at union square and specifically sergeant joel harrell. >> we will be presenting a certificate honoring each and every one of the 28 officers, as well as our challenge coin,

because we appreciate their service and their commitment to the city and county of san francisco. >> sergeant harrell was the officer who heard the shots and ran to help pearsall performing life saving measures. a second officer was also honored for his fast response time. cal fire says two homes in lake county are destroyed and another one damaged by the so-called glen haven fire. that fire has now grown to more than 400 acres since it ignited friday, forcing evacuations in the community of glen haven. helicopters and retardant dropping airplanes helped stop the spread of the blaze. by 10:00, that night. the fire is 35% contained. mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted, but warnings are still in place and the power is back and tourists have returned to alcatraz. the historic prison had been closed since thursday because of a power outage. tourists with tickets for today were relieved to learn the island reopened. >> we're scheduled to go today. the whole time, but it gave us a

little scare when we did find out about it. >> official officials haven't said what caused the outage. alcatraz main prison is set to undergo a major renovation, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027. moving on to new details now. this evening, on a car collision in the north bay that killed a person. police now say it's one of multiple crashes caused intentionally by an angry driver. the deadly crash happened just after 2:00 saturday afternoon at rohnert park expressway and stony point road. investigators say the driver of a mazda suv rammed a volkswagen suv from behind and pushed it into the path of an oncoming vehicle. a woman in the passenger seat of the volkswagen was killed. two other people in that volkswagen, the driver and a child, both suffered major injuries. investigators say the driver responsible left the crash scene but was arrested a short time later. they say he is responsible for at least one and possibly three similar road rage

incidents earlier in the day. we'll count them down. just 29 days to go until election day, and bay area cities are getting prepared for an influx of voters seeking information about the political races and issues. starting tomorrow, the san francisco department of elections will open its voting center at city hall. the early voting period is designed to assist voters with the range of needs each day through election day, except for october 14th, when indigenous peoples day is observed. most days, the voting center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. just ahead, a somber anniversary is approaching in the middle east. coming up, a look back at a year's worth of conflict b

tomorrow marks one year since the deadly terror attack on israel by hamas, and there is still no sign the violence between the two sides is even close to ending. that anniversary comes as israel intensifies its bombardment of northern gaza and southern lebanon, while targeting hezbollah. increasing fears of an all out war in the region.

here is josh einiger from our sister station in new york with the latest. >> on israel's assault on hezbollah continued through the weekend. explosions lighting up the sky in south beirut as the idf pummeled what it called weapons depots. and in gaza, a new round of airstrikes targeted a mosque and a school. israel says hamas had been using his command and control centers. meanwhile, israel is still gaming out a response to last week's iranian barrage, when more than 200 ballistic missiles raced into israel. today, the idf said it will respond at a time and place of its choosing. are you are you a fan? all of this comes on a pivotal, solemn day in this beleaguered country. exactly a year after hamas terrorists gushed into the south, slaughtering 1200 people. 100 hostages remain in captivity. but israel says as many as half of them have already died, including 19 year

was named for somerset county, where 40 passengers and crew aboard united airlines flight 93 lost their lives on nine over 11. the plane was on its way to san francisco before it was and on the uss tripoli. s.f.w. you see, there is spelled out on the flight deck for san francisco fleet week. starting tomorrow, you can visit the uss somerset at pier 27 and uss tripoli at pier 30 and 32. the blue angels are also scheduled to arrive in just about an hour. all right, getting back to the weather, i love that you have your notepad full of records. there were so many broken today. you have to keep track of them. >> so many. i know. and i think we broke at least 7 or 8 in san francisco it was 97 today. we broke a record. hard to believe tomorrow will drop by almost 20 degrees with a high of 81. so that is much more comfortable. live view from sutro though. looks gorgeous over the city and right now in san francisco it's 85 degrees. oakland are also dropping into the 80s at 89 hayward 97. also san jose redwood city still at 101 half

moon bay cooler now at 79 degrees from mount tam, we see lots of blue skies out there. more 90s in the forecast. santa rosa 98, in petaluma and napa. lower 90s. fairfield 96. concord still 100. livermore 97 degrees. here's live doppler seven. we saw a few clouds passing through as high pressure starts to weaken, but unfortunately the heat is still on at least until 11:00 tonight with an excessive heat warning for the areas highlighted in pink where temperatures can reach up to 105. in fact, went past that as we know earlier today, even san francisco was above 95 degrees today. and then the areas in orange there. that's the heat advisory still in effect. now the heat risk tomorrow drops down. it's only major to moderate. we don't have as many extreme heat risk areas in the east bay and the south bay. there's still a few there you can see in purple, but not as much. and then tuesday, noticeably different. only minor heat risk. so that is some more relief for everybody. so tonight

lows will drop into generally the mid 60s around the bay. and notice even antioch only getting to 74 degrees. so it is going to be a mild evening. and then tomorrow temperatures are cooling down. but you'll notice it's still hot in san jose 94 degrees. also in san mateo, 83 on the beaches, half moon bay 71 tomorrow, downtown san francisco 81 degrees. and then in the north bay. look for numbers to still be near 100 in some spots, like cloverdale and calistoga. but we're seeing mid 90s through petaluma, sonoma 96, napa 95, and then in the east bay. numbers will also be in the 80s for you and mid 80s through berkeley and oakland near 90 in union city and fremont and then triple digit heat for inland neighborhoods. but cooler temperatures near 100 in concord, pittsburg, antioch and brentwood. 101 livermore 100 degrees. so we're going to start noticing the cooling mostly

along the coast tomorrow. and then by tuesday we'll start to notice it for everybody. notice we get out of the triple digits. we finally drop into the 90s for the inland areas, and then even around san francisco, mid 70s and at the beaches. we'll see some mid 60s. the cooling continues on wednesday and even into thursday. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so another hot day mainly inland temperatures really moderate on tuesday. fog returns on wednesday. and then we're tracking even a slight chance of rain for possibly next saturday. we'll be back after this break. >> and welcome to sports from levi's stadium. starting to cool down a little bit, but today marked the hottest game ever in the history of this stadium. the niners and cardinals kicked off the game 91 degrees at times in the game. during the middle of it got to the low one hundreds and irish not only battling the cardinals but the heat here at levi's stadium. and to the game

we go patrick willis, the newly minted hall of famer being honored at halftime about the only guy in the stadium wearing a jacket. but hey p willie looked good. niners finally get brandon aiyuk going today. it was the ba game. a game high 147 yards receiving. including this 53 yard run and catch. a lot of yac yardage there that led to an early field goal for the niners. and then later san francisco takes the lead in the first brock purdy. that's his 50th career touchdown pass to george kittle. no. one in niners history has done it faster, getting to 50 tds, ten seven niners after one. second quarter now niners special teams hasn't been great this year but this will help make up for it jordan elliott the block and leonard on his birthday a scoop and score all primetime on you kind of look like deion sanders back in 90 for the niners playing big on special teams. and in the second later it's nick bosa. perfect recognition of that little pass. he picks off kyler murray. that interception his second career one led to another field goal 2310 at the break. niners. but the cardinals come back in the

blistering heat murray little lob. touchdown pass. you add the two point conversion and oh it's a two point game. niners trying to close it out with six minutes to go jordan mason hit and stripped and fumbles. he loses the football. he was fighting for extra yards. that eventually led to a long cardinals drive. and then arizona would kick a field goal with a minute and a half to go. and the cardinals have the lead. remember, the niners haven't scored since the half and the cardinals scored 14 unanswered. and then this was the nail in the coffin. brock purdy hit intercepted on that ball that kind of fluttered in the air. niners lose a stunner 2423. and now a quick turnaround with a thursday night game up in seattle. >> we had the game won and we gave it away you know. but you got to kind of wipe it and get on to the next you know it's not there's really not any time to sulk or feel sorry for yourself. you got to you got to move on. >> as an offense, we really want to take the game into our hands, and we had every opportunity to blow that one out and we didn't
