>> florida implementing its largest evacuation effort since 20-17 hurricane milton taking aim at the state as cleanup efforts continue from hurricane helene. less than two weeks ago. >> the hot weekend here in the bay area. 40 niners fans feeling the heat from inside levi's stadium. but will the heat continue? >> good morning. it is monday, october seventh. >> we're going to start with that answer. checking in with lisa this morning. >> well, the good news is our excessive heat warning has been downgraded to an advisory. and so we are turning the corner on this heat wave as we look right now, the entire bay area under the orange there, which indicates that we will be hot again today. but there is no advisory for the coastline there of san francisco. and we're going to see a 10 degrees drop in temperatures. so right now we're looking at 68. in san jose it is 70 at sfo. so these numbers obviously haven't dropped off too much. in fact we are quite mild this morning. but a return to an onshore flow today is going to make a difference. 60 in sonoma and napa. so compared to yesterday
5:02 am
we are just a couple degrees cooler in san jose and in novato by four degrees. but we are warmer by a degree or so inland. so here's the plan. throughout the morning hours, we're mild to the warm side as we get through our early morning hours. and then by about ten, 11:00, we'll continue the climb into the 70s and 80s. but as we get towards the afternoon, although we're going to see about 100 degrees inland, notice temperatures will not be in the 80s at the coast. we're going to reach 90 around the bay shore, but that's an improvement compared to the upper 90s yesterday. so from the coast to around the bay we have a cooldown in store, not as hot inland. and then we're going to talk about a return to the fog tomorrow. and how about some rain arriving in the bay area by the end of the week? i'll explain in a few minutes. what a change. >> thank you so much, lisa. we have a look at your traffic for this morning and so far you can see our map here mostly in the green. no major issues this morning, just that usual slowdown there at the altamont pass that we see quite often this time of the morning and

5:05 am
>> the october 7th attack igniting a war between israel and hamas in gaza, which rages on. yesterday, israeli tanks rumbled into northern gaza for the third time since the war began, reportedly killing 45 people. airstrikes hitting a mosque and a school in a designated safe zone. the israeli military says it targeted hamas command posts. israel also intensifying airstrikes in southern lebanon, targeting leaders of the iran backed militant group hezbollah. a senior u.s. official says israel is now considering targeting iranian military bases and oil infrastructure. but as israelis look back on this october seventh, the trauma of that day is still raw. this man was the first resident of a kibbutz to return since the attack. his front door, still covered by hamas bullets. another family we spoke to still waits for their loved one taken hostage to come home. >> every day i wake up and i say tal is alive. tal is coming back. i will see him hugging his family. i imagine him hugging his children and people here are
5:06 am
heartbroken. >> they are also on edge, waiting to see how israel responds to iran and they are tired. we are now a year later and the idf is engaged with hamas and gaza with hezbollah, in lebanon, with iran, of course, with the houthis in yemen. and there are real fears we could be on the brink of an all out regional war. ines de la cuetara abc news, tel aviv. >> and here in the bay area, the jewish community will be marking today with ceremonies to honor the victims of the october 7th attack, including people with ties here. it comes as federal authorities issue a warning about possible violence. abc seven news reporter lena howland is here live with us this morning. >> lena amanda berkeley, born hersh goldberg-polin, is one of more than a thousand people being remembered on this somber day. he was killed several months after being taken hostage while attending a music festival. one year after this attack, federal agencies are warning today's anniversary could fuel violence. that's why temples across the bay area are
5:07 am
now beefing up security. the jewish federation manages community security across northern california, and they say preparations are well underway and at synagogues across the bay, they are working to help people feel safe, including at temple sinai in oakland. >> when we have security guards to also have folks from our community serving as ushers who are familiar faces, who are greeting people, welcoming them as much as possible, welcoming them by name and just so that people feel that sense of being welcomed in addition to the reality of the world we live in, according to our media partners at the san francisco standard, there are other synagogues not allowing nonmembers inside during the holidays unless they have registered beforehand. >> in a joint statement, the fbi and department of homeland security saying monday's anniversary, quote, may be a motivating factor for violent extremists and hate crime

certainly going to see some changes. i say certainly along the coast. today you can see the high clouds continue to stream up, but we are looking at the onshore flow and this ridge of high pressure to loosen its grip around the bay. later on today, but we still have advisories. it's still going to be hot. we're still going to reach 100 inland and even 90 around the bay shore. but san francisco, the coast and even along the bay shore, we will be cooler. it is in the upper 60s in oakland, 77, in san rafael, upper 60s san mateo 68, san jose. and our forecast headlines then heat advisories near 100 inland. it's cooler at the coast with that afternoon sea breeze, and we'll continue the cooling trend throughout the workweek, where temperatures will be in the 80s. by wednesday inland. and then we'll see temperatures even drop off more so before things really do a 180. so here's a look at the cloud cover. you'll notice that we'll get in and out of those high clouds today. and then as we get into tuesday the marine layer begins to build. and that's going to really take

5:17 am
>> now, let's get ready for the mayor. and her supporters held a rally at the rockridge bart station yesterday. oaklanders defending democracy posted this video on x saying that they are distributing thousands of fliers for a no vote on the recall since taking office. supporters say that mayor tao has taken significant steps to improve public safety in oakland and attract good jobs, but her critics disagree, saying that there are real concerns about public safety, and they've also accused the mayor of mishandling the city's finances, among other issues. tao did not file a rebuttal to the recall in the voter information guide that went out last week, resulting in a blank space where the argument would go. a spokesperson told the chronicle that the rebuttal fell through the cracks. live in the studio, gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria. there's another high profile endorsement in the recall effort of alameda county da pamela price. the group leading the effort says every law enforcement union in the county is now endorsing the recall. that includes the unions

schedule of the fleet week events. >> i love this time of year with fleet week and the nice weather. >> i usually do, but i've had it. >> i have officially had it. >> i am with you and usually we have this kind of weather for fleet week, but we're going to mix it up and bring in the low clouds. the fog you'll be. i don't think you'll be wanting this weather back. never mind yet. it is going to be a lot cooler and we're going to introduce the chance of some showers. we've had those years where, you know, can they fly due to all the low clouds and fog. so we will be watching that for you. also the high clouds out there, they've been with us the past couple of days, but it has been a journey hasn't it? let's take you down to the gulf coast where we're looking at hurricane milton. this has winds of 125 miles an hour. moving to the east. it's a category three, and it will continue to strengthen as it moves over these warm gulf waters. and you've already had some flooding in parts of texas. so as this continues to make the move towards tampa, we're looking at some big time flooding and a storm surge. this is 4:00 on
5:21 am
wednesday. winds will make it up to at least 150 miles an hour. as it is south of tampa, and we'll continue to track on off towards the east. so certainly some dangerous conditions there where we'll be looking at anywhere from about five inches of rain in miami, more than that as you head up towards the west coast of florida. no advisories today, although it is hazy out there and you can see the air quality is moderate throughout the east bay and south bay. temperatures are warm to mild out there 77 in san rafael, 62 in danville. it's 60 in napa and in the south bay. today we had that 101 103 there from santa clara to san jose today, coming down into the mid 90s. but upper 90s from morgan hill to gilroy on the peninsula, upper 80s to about 90, we've got that afternoon sea breeze on the way. so that's going to make a huge difference with temperatures about ten degrees cooler from san francisco, mid 80s there, upper 80s across the bay in oakland, mid to upper 90s up here in the north bay. so as we
