11:01 pm
that uncovered a racist text scandal. the california doj is also conducting a separate investigation, and it has begun meeting with residents and those who say they were victims of police violence this week. abc seven news reporter anser hassan has been following the story and brings us this update. reporter are you joking me? >> antioch resident frank sterling was allegedly tasered and dragged down by antioch police, as the video shows. this type of evidence is among the stories he shared with the california department of justice. >> me being arrested in 2009, where i was attacked by the antioch police, choked unconscious, kicked in the face and called a bunch of names that you now see in the text messages. >> sterling was one of a small group that the doj invited to confidential meetings. it's part of the doj's investigation into the antioch police racist texting scandal. that was uncovered by the fbi in 2023, and led to more than 40% of the police department to be put on
11:02 pm
paid leave. >> a lot of us feel like out here that the antioch police officers association is who is really running the show out here. >> sterling says the doj is gathering victim stories and soliciting input on possible solutions. but he says the doj didn't disclose where it is in its investigation. >> they did talk about other places that they have done stuff like this and that they've looked to get oversight. >> my witness to their their use of police to weaponize them against parents in the school district. that's something that i've witnessed. >> patricia granados was also invited to thursday's meeting. she says people shared pictures, videos and other documentation with investigators. she believes the doj s investigation is important, but she's a bit skeptical. that will lead to big changes. >> this is just the beginning because it's going to take a lot of manpower, a lot of attorneys, a lot of victim statements that
11:03 pm
haven't even come forward. >> sterling also has his doubts, but he believes pressure from the doj may help the city implement changes it's attempting to make. >> i feel like it's important no matter what, because i feel like they're going to take a record of it and somewhere it's going to be on the official books and on the official record. >> the doj and antioch police department did not return requests for comment. the doj's next meeting, which will include representatives from the naacp, is set for monday in antioch. anser hassan abc seven news. >> a stretch of highway 37 is closed tonight in both directions in solano county because of a wreck. take a look. two vehicles crashed this afternoon, causing a big rig to overturn and spill gasoline into the water. it's been shut down between highway 121 and walnut avenue for hours, so a hazmat crew can clean up the mess. the chp expects the roadway to reopen maybe a little after midnight. over in santa cruz county, a fire along highway 17 in the scotts valley area
11:04 pm
briefly forced evacuations and a shutdown of one lane of traffic tonight. it started at around 7 p.m, and firefighters had it contained by nine. the fire burned about two acres and no one was hurt. all lanes of highway 17 are now open. we do want to turn to the weather because it really is beginning to feel like fall out there. and spencer, you say rain is on the way for some parts of the bay area. >> that is correct, john. it's getting cooler, getting cloudier. the overall pattern is and some rain is likely tonight. here's a look at the satellite radar composite image. you can see there's rain up in the north pacific northwest right now, and some of it's trailing down into northern california. and some of it's likely to reach the bay area, but maybe not all of the bay area. these are the headlines tomorrow and monday. drizzle and spotty showers are likely tuesday. a brief sunny break, but then later in the week, the pattern gets active and unsettled once again. so for tonight, here's the forecast animation showing little areas of green you see moving through the north bay mainly. so there will be some measurable rain in

the pacific northwest. getting some significant rainfall. right now, some of it is moving into northern california. and some of that will likely reach the bay area during the overnight and early morning hours. right now, the wind is relatively calm. only a couple of places reporting surface wind speeds over ten miles per hour. but notice the warm up. the 24 hour temperature change shows many locations from 5 to 10 degrees warmer right now than at this time last night, and that's because of the cloud cover coming in. that's locking in the daytime heating so it can't escape. so it's going to be pretty mild overnight right now 59 degrees here in san francisco we have mid 60s at oakland hayward san jose 61 and redwood city 59 at half moon bay, nice view from up at mount tam. yeah it is looking down onto parts of the city. you can see some low clouds developing there 60 degrees right now in santa rosa, 57 in petaluma, 60 at napa and we have 63 each at fairfield, concord and livermore. and now looking across the embarcadero from our rooftop camera, let's check out our forecast headlines tomorrow. and monday we'll have drizzle and spotty showers. now,
11:20 pm
this precipitation will be confined mainly to the north bay, but there's a chance of some spotty showers may reach other parts of the bay area as well. tuesday we'll get a brief sunny break, but then the remainder of the week will be unsettled. a lot cooler, and there's at least a hint of more rain coming our way later next week. so for the overnight hours, look for little pockets of light showers and drizzle moving again, mainly through the north bay. but some of those showers may hit locations south of the golden gate over in the east bay, but again, generally the north bay is the. the region likely to get some measurable rainfall out of this overnight. low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper seconds, so much milder generally than last night was, and if we do get measurable rain, it will amount in most locations to only a couple of hundredths of an inch, but up in ukiah, nearly a quarter of an inch is possible. from this system if it holds up. so for tomorrow, after some morning clouds and possibly sprinkles, afternoon highs will range from about 60 to half moon bay to mainly mid and upper 60s
