supervisor. >> there's a growing acknowledgment that i am the person with the experience with actual plans to move the city forward to address our affordability crisis, to reduce rent costs, and to make san francisco safer in a way that actually works. >> hey, how are you? >> good. nonprofit founder and levi strauss heir daniel lurie says he's proud to be the only mayoral candidate who's never held political office. lurie hopes being an outsider will make him the voters first choice in ranked choice voting. >> everybody i'm running against has had their chance and they have failed this. this mayor has failed to deliver for the people and the taxpayers for six years. now it's time for a change in san francisco. >> cornell, bernard, abc seven news. >> the san francisco democratic party made a push to get people to the polls. they rallied at dubose park. the event was part of a nationwide get out the vote effort. mayor breed, congresswoman barbara lee, state senator scott wiener and district attorney brooke jenkins all participated. now, one of the big issues in the east bay
9:06 am
is the future of the alameda county district attorney's office. the group save alameda for everyone, supports the recall effort of pamela price. they rallied in oakland, saying her policies have fueled crime. we fall price, we fall price, and we stand here and we stand here together because our hearts ache and we want justice. now, price and her supporters have blasted the recall effort, calling it an attempt to silence those who support criminal justice reform. the other big recall in the east bay is against oakland mayor shane tao. so what happens if both da price and mayor tao are recalled? both instances involve a series of steps, and it won't necessarily force them out of office immediately. abc seven news reporter anser hassan explains. >> for the past year, those for and against the recall of alameda county district attorney pamela price and oakland mayor chen tao have made their case. on tuesday, it will be up to voters, the recall to statewide

level is actually pretty rare. it's not used very often, but at the local level, we see the recall used as kind of a gun behind the door, a threat if you will factor. >> david mcewan is professor of political science at sonoma state university. he says if either of the two elected officials are ousted, the mechanism to replace them is quite different. for d.a. price, it's a two step process. d.a. price's term ends in 2028. the alameda county board of supervisors will appoint her successor, who will serve two years until the next general election in 2026. whoever's elected in 2026 fills out the rest of the term until 2028. professor mcewan says what's unclear is just how fast the board of supervisors will move. >> generally, the board would have a meeting within two weeks of the november election, and that's an important element because we may not have certification yet for alameda county. >> he expects a decision will likely be made by the beginning of january. when it comes to the
9:08 am
oakland mayor seat, mcewan says that could be much messier. >> and this is one of the subtle or nuanced messages that mayor tao is putting out there is like, look, if i'm recalled, there's a mess behind me about what happens if mayor tao is recalled. >> tao will remain in office until the vote is certified, which could be mid-december. oakland city council president nikki fortunato bass would take over as interim mayor. a special election must be called within 120 days from when mayor tao steps down. that special election could happen as late as april. but complicating the process is that fortunato bass is running for alameda county board of supervisors, district five. if she wins, she will take office in january. that means oakland's pro tem would take over as city council president and become the next interim mayor until the special election. >> you're looking at a 5 or 6 month period in oakland politics and oakland city politics where you could see literally four mayors in about five months. >> in a statement to abc seven

9:37 am
yesterday. he talked a lot about the economy, talked about inflation, talked about immigration as the biggest issues in the campaign. in a big part of his focus, though, was was on the economy. kamala harris was here in raleigh. one of the more urban areas of the state. and a lot of her message has been turned. the page on donald trump. and i know that's resonating with, with with many voters. we heard from them yesterday in raleigh in san francisco, monica madden, abc seven news. >> all right. we're going to take you outside for a live look. >> lisa, we'll have your forecast coming up in just a few minutes. make thanksgiving an unforgettable event this year with inspiring designs from living spaces. >> create a warm, inviting atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and comfortable as you bring together pieces that offer great style and quality. from dining sets starting at just 250 to extension tables and spacious sectionals, find everything you need to host a special gathering with free shipping as soon as next day, you can get it all in

9:40 am
voter fraud by voting twice in georgia. the second involves second gentleman doug emhoff. now both are fake and investigators say they appear to be the work of foreign actors, particularly from russia, china and iran, aiming to raise tensions ahead of the election. so what should you do if you spot this type of content? joining me live now is perry carpenter, a chief risk management strategist at know before, a security focused software company. perry, thanks for being with us. yeah. thank you so much for having me. >> so, perry, in may, the chairman of the senate intelligence committee warned the 2024 election will likely be the most attacked by malicious, malicious foreign actors. >> what tips do you have for us on how to spot fake election related content? >> yeah. >> so unfortunate. >> we online with digital disinformation. it is increasing really difficult because the actors that are putting these
9:41 am
out are very sophisticated in general. however the biggest thing that we can do is to raise our own awareness that these kinds of attacks are happening and they are attacks. they're not things that are just benign in nature. these are state foreign actors seeking to destabilize the us. and so the best thing that we can do is, number one, raise our awareness . number two, realize that these are trying to sow a narrative. there's a story behind these and they're playing on our emotions. they're trying to sow division in and they're trying to really poke those areas where we already feel divided. and so the biggest thing that i always tell people is just, uh, the, the one thing that we can really, really do is just take a breath and slow down and realize that social media is there to create engagement. and when we put that little angry face on it, or we
9:42 am
make that angry comment all that's doing is getting more engagement. it's getting more eyeballs on it. so when you can slow down and report it or even better, break away and look for secondary coverage, look for trusted sources that you already believe in and then can start to branch out your own investigation. perry how are you seeing ai impact the speed and scale of how misinformation is spreading online? that's a great question. and so since that chat, gpt moment in november 2022, we've seen an escalation in in generative ai. this ai that's very good at creating things. and people can create imagery with text to, uh, text to image as, say, i want to create a long line of voters. uh, you can create that and put that online same thing with text. and so it's in increasing the capabilities of anybody that wants to. so confusion or discord as also in, you know,
9:43 am
creating great opportunities for scammers around the world. and so it is just right there. and it's one more tool. it's not the only tool. it's maybe not even the best tool right now, but it is one more tool. >> yeah, a very important reminder to stay vigilant. uh, perry, thanks so much for your time and insight this morning. thank you. and a reminder, abc seven news is here to help you navigate through all the races and measures on the ballot with valid, verified information. and we have a voter guide over on our website where you can look up races specific to your county . you'll find it under the election section. now to this we have a story about liam payne's body. now being released to his family. more than two weeks after he fell from his hotel room, balcony in argentina and his funeral is expected to be sometime this week in england. new details have emerged in the investigation into his death, and sources are telling abc news police have reviewed
9:44 am
surveillance footage and it shows exchanges between a drug dealer and a hotel employee. the hotel apparently is now a key part of the investigation, detailed in a new 2020 episode back that the police raided the hotel means there's probably more to the story. >> you can catch. >> price of fame the liam payne story a special edition of 2020 on tonight, right here on abc seven. it will air at 10:00. how's it looking outside, lisa? >> well, we are getting dry conditions with very windy conditions, not only locally but in the sierra nevada, where temperatures today will be in the 40s. gusty winds and then overnight lows with a dry wind in the mountains. 17 degrees here. so back home, the wind will warm us up. but we too will be watching for heightened fire danger. my full accuweather seven-day forecast is next. >> lisa, thank you. also next, a look at how the warriors fared last night without their star player. how steph curry is doing with his ankle injury.
