the random knife attack of a woman on a bart train. police didn't have to look far for their suspect. and rescue at sea. a group of people, including children, go missing while on a crabbing trip off the bodega bay coast. abc seven news at five starts now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> the 48 hour countdown until election day. the campaigns for president have hit a fever pitch, and with such a contentious election poll, workers safety is a big concern. good evening and thanks for joining us i'm dion lim. two days before election tuesday and polling places are already busy. more than 74 million people have cast their ballots as of saturday. that's nearly 47% of the total number cast in the 2020 presidential election. those numbers are from the associated press and based on data from state election offices in california, 6.7 million

people have already voted. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has details on how several counties are prepared and ready with election security and measures to keep ballots safe. >> right over here. >> thank you for voting early. >> this drive through ballot drop off was busy all sunday in downtown oakland. alameda county sheriff's deputies standing watch. >> the number of police officers feels a little like something is wrong. like it's a little overboard if i'm honest. but seeing that there is police presence makes me confident that i can come here and vote safely. >> brandon thomas pedaled in with his ballot. >> this whole election is going to be. it's been a stressful ride, so i just wanted to do my part, get it done early, show that, you know, i'm sure my parents that i voted show everyone that i care. let's see if they've been signed. >> alameda county election bosses say 100 voting centers are now open through tuesday. many voters are getting it done early. >> we've had about 300,000

people already vote, which represents about 32% of our voters so far. so turnout is going to be really good. >> depuy expects some close races may not be decided tuesday night. >> it's probably going to take us a couple of weeks. i'm estimating, you know, we could be looking at about 400,000 plus votes coming in by mail on election night. that's a lot. >> this is our busiest location. this is probably about a thousand ballots in petaluma. >> poll workers are removing ballots from a drop box outside this voting center. 31 locations are open across sonoma county. >> we've had over 137,000 return. vote by mail ballots so far. >> registrar of voters wendy hudson says with such a contentious election, the safety of poll workers is a top priority. this is my right. right. >> wow. >> hudson is hoping to avoid scenes like this from a south carolina polling place where a man was asked to remove a hat mocking president biden. things became heated.

i look at these candidates. chavez says 150 people were expected to volunteer throughout the day at the phone bank. on friday, the fbi confirmed they're investigating two fake videos related to the 2024 election investigators. they say they appear to be the work of foreign actors, particularly russia, china and iran, aiming to raise tensions ahead of the election. this morning we talked with a chief risk management strategist at knowbe4, a security focused software company. >> they are attacks. they're not things that are just benign in nature. these are state, foreign actors seeking to destabilize the u.s. and so the best thing that we can do is, number one, raise our awareness. number two, realize that these are trying to sow a narrative. there's a story behind these, and they're playing on our emotions. they're trying to sow division and they're trying to really poke those areas where we already feel divided.

>> those fake videos were posted on x one, falsely claimed the fbi apprehended groups committing voter fraud by voting twice in georgia. the second involved second gentleman, doug emhoff. abc seven news is here to help you navigate through all of the races and measures on your ballot. we have a voter guide at abc seven news.com where you can look up races in your county. you can find it under the election section. all right. we do want to get to the accuweather forecast right away because strong offshore winds coming our way will be raising that wildfire risk. p-g-and-e's says people in at least eight northern california counties could see those power shutoffs. let's get to weather anchor spencer christian with what we can expect. spence. >> okay, well, there are three weather elements main weather elements that contribute to our fire concern. it's the strong, gusty wind. of course, the dry fuels or dry vegetation and dangerously low relative humidity. now, right now, we're looking at winds gusting up to about 2320 four miles per hour in the windiest locations. but

as we look at the wind gusts animation, you can see over the next 24 hours, we'll see gusts reaching 40mph at times. even during the overnight hours when the winds tend to get a little bit tamer. they won't be so tame overnight tonight and then tomorrow. by afternoon, up to about 40mph on the coast and 25 to 35 mile per hour gusts elsewhere and right now the relative humidity is dangerously low, under 30% in many bay area locations. as we look at the humidity animation, you can see that by 1:00 tomorrow afternoon, relative humidity will be under 20% across a wide swath of the bay area. so we have elevated fire concerns for sure. we are fortunate that the weather is not hot, but it is going to be rather warm over the next couple of days for this time of the year, with high temperatures tomorrow and tuesday in the upper seconds in our inland areas. i'll keep watching this and i'll have the accuweather seven day forecast for you a little bit later. >> dion sounds good, spence. well, a group on an ocean excursion to fish for crab is now the focus of a search and rescue mission. six people went

a boating accident in bodega bay. the sonoma county sheriff's office says a crabbing boat was reported missing to the coast guard after it didn't return to the dock last night. three minors and three adults were on board. search and rescue teams found an 11 year old alive on a beach this morning. they were taken to the hospital. a second person was found dead and debris from the missing boat was also found. sonoma county sheriff's deputy rob dillon says searchers are facing tough conditions. >> the. we have to start with the place that they were last known to be, and that's the challenge with something like this, with the currents and the winds. so strong that people can drift really quickly. >> planes, boats and drones are being used to search miles of the bodega bay coastline. well,

new details now on what police call a random stabbing on bart. there's been an arrest. bart says a station worker spotted the wanted suspect this afternoon at fruitvale station, then told police he's accused of stabbing a woman on an antioch bound train near the 24th street and mission station at about 8:00 yesterday morning. a bart surveillance camera captured images of the man and a station agent helped the victim until officers arrived. she was taken to the hospital. an attention grabbing sight for drivers near the bay bridge this morning. check this out. all of that thick black smoke billowing into the air from a fire that happened at about 9 a.m. on frontage road near the toll plaza. some kind of debris caught fire, and those flames then spread to nearby grass and brush. it was put out quickly and there was no significant damage. just ahead, there's a plan to charge us more for bridge tolls. we'll learn about an upcoming opportunity to speak up about the proposed toll hike

for commuters to weigh in on proposed toll increases on state owned bridges. all but the golden gate would be affected, and currently the toll on those bridges is $7. it goes up to $8 next year under a previously approved hike, but tolls could go up to 1150 by 2030. under this new proposal. officials say they need the money for maintenance. and here's a look at the pricing for drivers with fastrak starting in 2026, tolls would go up $0.50 each year through 2030. but you can see there it will eventually rise to 1050. those without a fast track would pay more. the public comment period goes through december 3rd. a palestinian owned coffeehouse in north oakland is working to mend some community ties. today, the jerusalem coffeehouse hosted a healing event with the bay area chapter of jewish voice for peace. it all comes after an incident last week where a man wearing a star of david hat was

asked to leave the cafe. today's event was called a tikkun olam. that's a hebrew phrase that means repair the world. event organizers say today's gathering quote was meant to extend hospitality across communities while honoring palestinians. all right. once again, we check the weather and gosh. hard to come to work on days like this. it's so beautiful out there. >> and yet we have to worry. a little bit about fire concerns because we have all the elements that contribute to high. fire weather high. fire weather to fire weather. we've got strong, gusty winds, as you can see. on the satellite radar composite image with the strong northerly flow. and we've got low. humidity. and those winds are getting pretty strong right now. we have gusts up to almost 25 miles per. hour in places like san mateo and san jose. and we have the on the 24 hour temperature change. warmer weather than we had at this time yesterday. four degrees warmer in oakland, seven degrees warmer. in novato, ten degrees warmer in hayward. so it's warming up. it's drying out, but it's really pleasant. though if you're out for a walk or out
