will be watching results at her ama mater, howard university in washington, d.c. >> abc seven news anchor julian glover joins us live from d.c. julian, you've been speaking with students all day long. i know they're excited. what are you hearing from them? >> hey there, dan and ama. earlier today, we were on howard university's campus. we were speaking to those students. they are a mix of excited, a bit anxious, but also very proud of the vice president. and throughout this very tight and very contentious election cycle, there's been a lot of discourse of if vice president kamala harris was doing enough to get to gen z, voters will, on her ama mater, howard university campus, it is team harris walls all the way. crews are busy putting barriers in place on howard university's campus, ahead of vice president kamala harris's election night watch party on the yard. security is tight and excitement is high. >> seeing a girl, a woman from oakland, california, having a chance and hopefully we get this

dub tomorrow. winning, becoming president. it's just amazing. like, i honestly believe anything is possible, honestly. >> brandon horton is from vallejo and kamala jacobs is from richmond. they're both a part of the club. howard students hailing from the golden state. they've been getting out the word to get out and vote. i feel like no candidate is perfect, but at the same time, it's like, who can best fit my needs? >> like i am a woman. a lot of like, things that she is fighting for and trying to push for benefit me as a black woman, vice president harris graduated from howard university in 1986 from the school of arts and sciences. >> it will be the backdrop for a potential victory speech if she is successful. doctor marilyn coakley taught harris in 1985, just her second year teaching. there are no words for it. >> it's i'm very excited and i she deserves the presidency. i think so. so she's she's fantastic and as a student already she was a good student, a great student, a brilliant

student. >> jacob monroe is a sophomore at howard at just 19 years old. this is the first election he's eligible to vote in. his father has known harris since they were teenagers. for monroe, she's an inspiration. >> i remember the first speech i went to uh- of her was her attorney general inaugural speech. and during that speech, she actually looked at me and my brother and told her, told us that we're the future of america and ever since then that memories kind of stuck with me and i kind of carried that on throughout my life. >> no matter the result, these howard bison couldn't be more proud of their most famous alumna. if vice president kamala harris wins the presidency, what would your message be to her? >> i would thank her as well for paving the way for all of us. i'd probably let her know that she'll be voting for me as well pretty soon because i'm like, she has inspired so many of us. i think a lot of us have been saying, like, who's next? who's going to run for president next? >> and there's been a bit of disruption to campus life there at howard university over the last few days. obviously, as

they set up all of those barricades around campus, classes have also been remote throughout the week. they'll be canceled tomorrow for election day, but the students that we spoke to, they might not actually get to see the vice president on campus because it's closed the yard. it's kind of an invite only affair, but they tell me they will be getting as close as possible to the yard to try and take in a small slice of history. for now, reporting outside of the people's house, the white house. i'm julianne glover, abc seven news. >> all right, julian, thank you so much. and live results coverage begins at 4 p.m. tomorrow here on abc seven. that will be live from abc news with coverage of all of the national races. our local coverage starts at 8 p.m. when the polls close. that will be streaming live on abc seven bay area. watch that on your phone, tablet, computer or smart tv. >> santa clara county is expecting voters to turn out in massive numbers this year. so far, more than 431,000 ballots have already been turned in. in santa clara county alone, that's about 41%. >> it's a very long process of

checking signatures, opening, flattening, running them through the machines. our ballot counters have already started. we've already counted, i think, over three 300,000. so as soon as those 8:00 hits tomorrow night, we'll issue our first results. >> the registrar of voters predicts that 8-80 may be up to 85% of eligible voters will cast ballots in this election. all right. to the east bay now. big turnout today in contra costa county. voters at walnut creek city hall waited in line that stretched out of the city council chambers down through the lobby and out the front doors. officials say extra polling booths have been set up to keep up with demand, and polling places could be affected by what p-g-and-e's calls public safety power shutoffs tomorrow. >> it says if it happens, it won't happen until after polls close. only two polling places are within the cps zone. they are calpine geothermal visitor center in lake county and lakeside elementary school in los gatos. >> if we do see power outages

that affect polling places, there can be emergency measures taken to, say, extend voting by an hour or two to make sure that people who are there have a chance to cast their ballots. >> in all, 20,000 p-g-and-e's customers in 17 counties could be in the dark tomorrow night. the orange parts on this map show where pg and e could decide to turn off the power in order to reduce the chance its equipment might start wildfires. and there is a red flag warning in effect tomorrow for the entire bay area, and it's shutting down a vote center in alameda county. the location is joaquin miller community center on sanborn drive. the nearest vote center is montera middle school and the nearest ballot drop box is woodminster market. all right, so let's bring in abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. yes. >> sandhya, if you would walk everyone through what is causing our higher high fire danger. >> well, the wind is going to be offshore and that's going to dry out the atmosphere. so that's what we're basically going to be dealing with. and it is going to be a strong gusty offshore wind

event. so right now, as we look from our east bay hills camera, the camera is not shaking much. so we're doing okay. it is breezy but not really terribly windy right now. big rock ridge 28 miles an hour. spring valley 25. that red flag warning goes up first thing at 11 a.m. tomorrow. the entire bay area is under it. it's in effect until thursday morning. winds will be out of the north northeast, 25 plus miles an hour, gusts to 55. when the humidity comes down to 15%, the fires that do develop can rapidly grow. so that is concerning. wind advisory for solano county that starts tomorrow night until wednesday evening. northerly winds gusting to 50 could take down a few tree limbs and cause some outages as we go. hour by hour. notice the winds picking up out of the north tomorrow afternoon. 29 in fairfield, 31 in calistoga, over 40 mile an hour winds during the early wednesday morning time period and hitting 50 by wednesday at 7 a.m. this is concerning as the fuels will get dried out. i'll be back with a

emergency landing in cupertino. it happened on the southbound side of highway 85 just before deanza boulevard. the plane, the pilot says his plane had a failed engine. >> i then saw kids running out into the football field. i was trying to make, and i couldn't make that. northbound traffic on 85 was back to back, and nobody would be able to see me coming down on top of them. so i opted to land on the southbound lane. >> calm as a cucumber. it seems no one was injured. it took six hours for crews to remove the wings from the plane to load it onto a tow truck. the pilot says he's sorry for the impact on commuters and the community. well, one day after a man was arrested in the stabbing of a 54

year old woman on bart, we're learning about his lengthy criminal record. there are questions about his most recent convictions in alameda county. abc seven news anchor dion lim is following the story. >> for me, asaph, those were the chilling moments saturday morning when, just after 8:00, a 54 year old woman was stabbed in the neck on an antioch bound bart train at the 24th street mission station. >> it's going to be a cut to the throat. >> our pd is on scene. >> bart, police announced the arrest of a 34 year old man after he was spotted at the fruitvale bart station on sunday. he was then taken into custody. per abc7 news crime guidelines, we're not naming the suspect or showing his photo until he's formally charged. documents obtained by abc seven news monday confirm a lengthy felony criminal history spanning the bay area, dating back to 2006, when the suspect was a minor. he served seven years for a 2014 home invasion robbery in vallejo, using a stolen vehicle. the homeowner, a mother of twin babies at the time, told me today she hadn't heard of the suspect's latest arrest and was

disappointed. >> it was extremely scary. it was very, very scary knowing what we went through a long time ago with our robbery, just i had really hoped that that was going to be the end of the story for this person, that they would either be in jail for a long time or else somehow rehabilitated. >> but it's the suspect's most recent convictions in alameda county that are raising questions. documents show he was sentenced by d.a. pamela price in 2023 to 1 day in jail and probation for a 2021 case. for all of these charges, including first degree robbery and sale of ammunition to a minor. in april of 2024, the suspect faced 29 charges, including a violent robbery on january 8th. he was on probation at the time and the case dismissed as part of a plea deal. the da's office tells me the suspect was released in july of 2024, quote, due to good conduct credits, i reached out to bart for more information about the stabbing and was told there was no new information to

share. the san francisco da is expected to receive the bart stabbing case later this week in san francisco. dion lim, abc seven news. well, tomorrow is election day in oakland. >> several businesses in downtown have actually boarded up their windows. barriers are also in place around oakland police headquarters. the city says there will be additional officers on patrol to ensure any demonstrations remain peaceful. polls tomorrow are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. first time voters can register at any vote center and get a provisional ballot. mail in ballots can be dropped off at any polling center or dropbox by 8 p.m. to mail it in, make sure it gets tomorrow's postmark on it. it can take up to a week to arrive, and your vote will still count. you can track your ballot online at where's my ballot dot s o s dot ca.gov. and do not miss out on election day freebies tomorrow get you all sugared up a free original glazed donut at krispy kreme. johnny rockets is handing

the case tomorrow. tomorrow the winds are going to ramp up as we go, hour by hour out of the north. notice as we head towards late tomorrow night into the wee hours of wednesday, those winds getting up close to 50 miles an hour, in some cases topping 50 miles an hour. what that's going to do is that wind is going to dry out our atmosphere. the relative humidity is going to drop into the teens in places like danville, vallejo, napa. you will notice even on wednesday, we're going to have a very dry air mass. so the wind, the low humidity are combining to raise that fire danger into the high to very high category. and yellows and oranges, primarily over the hills. but all areas will be under that fire danger going into the next couple of days. high pressure building in behind a departing trough is what's bringing us the northerly wind flow. eventually northeasterly. right now we do have some patchy fog in half moon bay and higher clouds up above. live view from pier 39 camera. half moon bay 55, san francisco 59. right now oakland, 54, and san jose is at 61 degrees. golden gate bridge
