california has high wind warnings and the setup between the high and the low, allowing for a red flag warning. the windiest conditions tonight into early wednesday, where winds will be over 25 miles an hour at the surface and then gusting to 55 miles an hour. then we get into a wind advisory here. north bay interior mountains by 4:00 this afternoon with wind gusts up to 60. even better than that, we will be looking for a calm start though, with some clouds, some fog, and then as we get into the afternoon, things will warm up again. not quite as warm as yesterday though. this morning we're chilly. 2 to 4 degrees cooler for most of you in the east bay. more than that from napa to the delta, about 12 to 19 degrees cooler. so it's cool. we're in the 60s. by 9:00. winds not a factor. they'll begin to increase by noontime. upper 60s and then mid 70s for most of you. a mild afternoon with gusty winds tonight into tomorrow. gloria. >> good morning. with election day today, there are some agencies that are offering free rides. when you're going to your polling station. so vta is

offering free rides for the times that the polls are open at 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and also marin transit is going to be offering free rides on their local busses for election day. and looking live at our bay bridge toll plaza camera. look at that. it's really gotten packed in just the last half hour since the metering lights flipped on there. so you are going to have a bit of a delay if you head there about this time. highway four to san francisco will be 50 minutes for president, three for kamala harris, three for donald trump. >> following the national trend, overnight votes were cast at one of the earliest and tiniest locations in the country to report election results. >> vice president harris and former president trump have tied with three votes each in dixville notch, new hampshire. the unincorporated township opened and closed its polls just after midnight eastern time. it is a tradition that dates back to 1964. republicans and two

undeclared voters participated. and now we want to take a live look this morning from detroit, michigan. it is 9 a.m. on the east coast and many polling locations have been welcoming voters already this morning. and you can see a bunch of people headed that way to vote. >> back here in the bay area, take a look at red, white and blue at city hall in san francisco and salesforce tower. the message reads vote for tomorrow. already, more than 8 million californians have voted early. polls open this morning at 7:00. they close at 8 p.m. and you do see that countdown clock at the bottom of your screen that is counting down to the beginning of live coverage of election results nationwide from abc news. former president trump and vice president harris spent the final hours of their campaign crisscrossing the battleground states. both making their final pitches to the american people. vice president harris wrapped up multiple stops across pennsylvania with a rally in philadelphia. pennsylvania. is the battleground state with the most electoral college votes up for grabs. >> ready for a new way forward

right now, which is one of about 50 vote centers staying open across san mateo county all day long today. here you can drop off your ballot, but you can also still register to vote today to countywide. supervisor david canepa says there are still around 70,000 unregistered potential voters. that's why he spent a part of monday trying to convince some of those people to vote on election day at manny's cafe in san francisco. the push to get more voters to the polls was more intense than ever. for the past several weeks, these people have been making thousands of calls to voters in the swing state of nevada, all of them trying to convince folks to vote for kamala harris. toda, i knocked on a door in carson city yesterday with a 23 year old guy that thought the election was next tuesday. >> that means going to a voting center like the one behind me, and having the ability to show an id and to, you know, be able to cast their vote. it's a conditional conditional vote. but it's a vote that matters, that counts. >> the chair of the san

francisco republican party says since 2020, republicans have registered millions of people across the country and thousands here in california. he believes those voters could be crucial in several important statewide ballot measures, as well as important seats in the house of representatives across the state. today, polls will open up at 7:00 this morning. they will close at 8:00 tonight. and if you are voting in person, just make sure you are in line by 8:00 tonight. live in san mateo. lena howland, abc seven news. >> all right, lena. thank you. security is tight in washington, d.c, and this morning, the bay area is also taking precautions. a number of buildings in oakland have boarded up. the police department is also closed. a few streets and. gloria. all of this likely in case a protest happens tonight or in the coming days as election results come in. that's right. amanda. businesses and building owners in the east bay are gearing up for the possibility of protests, though of course, we don't know what will happen. so check this out.

overnight, we saw boarded up windows in oakland. this is in downtown area. some fences have even been put up around local businesses. abc seven spoke to a worker in downtown who told us her coworkers are concerned about going to work today. while we did not see protests in 2020, we did see them in oakland in 2016. you can see right there garbage cans were set on fire. businesses were damaged and vandalized. the oakland police department issued a statement saying in part, we are providing extra staffing to facilitate people's rights to peaceful gatherings and to address any crime related incidents. the fbi has been active across the country closely, watching all threats as we kick off this election day. and today, the san francisco fbi office is also setting up a command post to cover the region. reggie. >> thanks, gloria. make sure you stay with abc seven for complete election results as they come in live results. coverage begins at 4 p.m. that will be from abc

news with coverage of national races. our local coverage starts at 8 p.m. when the polls close. here on the west coast. that will be streaming live on our abc seven, bay area apps and abc seven news.com. also want to let you know about a red flag warning in effect for the entire bay area, and it is actually shutting down a vote center in alameda county. that's the one located at joaquin miller community center that's on sanborn drive. now the nearest vote center is montera middle school. you can also go to the nearest ballot drop box, which is at woodminster market. polling places could also be affected by a public safety power shut off today. p-g-and-e's says if that happens, it won't occur until after the polls close. so post 8 p.m, only two polling places are within the psps zone. they are calpine geothermal visitor center in lake county and lakeside elementary school in los gatos. >> if we do see power outages that affect polling places, there can be emergency measures taken to, say, extend voting by

four corners region. high pressure building in allowing for that tug between the high and low pressure and the gusty winds. so from 11:00 today through 7:00 on thursday, we have the north winds and the windiest tonight into wednesday morning for the entire bay. wind gusts in excess of 50 miles an hour, even at the surface upper elevations 60 and 70 miles an hour. how pretty is that? mount tam 52, san francisco, 46, in redwood city, santa cruz not quite as warm today. look at all the 40s. it's chilly out there. there's a little bit of fog from half moon bay and pacifica. here's our winds as they pick up through your afternoon today. and it's just getting going at about 4 or 5:00. because we bring in the purples, you can see the diablo range there into early tomorrow. look at that 40 mile an hour gust there at 10:00 wednesday morning. it continues out of the north, but they will get lighter as we get into later tomorrow. but later today this is when the wind advisory goes up and this is how dry we will

county coastline through wednesday because of high winds and rough surf. there have already been two deadly accidents in the area, so the first boat capsized north of bodega bay saturday. 117 year old is confirmed dead. four others remain missing and 11 year old boy so far is the sole survivor. yesterday morning, another boat capsized in the same area and one person is confirmed dead from that. another is still missing. this is not what you would expect to see on your morning commute. we told you about it yesterday. a small plane making an emergency landing on a busy highway. it's exactly what happened on highway 85 in cupertino. the pilot tells us his engine failed. tower operators tried to guide him to san jose, but that just ended up being too far. no one was hurt. it took six hours for crews to remove the wings from the plane, so they could load it onto a tow truck. your voice. your vote in san francisco. an ethics

commission has fined mayoral candidate mark farrell nearly $110,000 over campaign funds. abc seven news reporter monica madden has details on that, and what the other candidates for mayor were doing on that last day before election day. >> mayoral hopeful mark farrell playing defense on election eve. the city's ethics commission, alleging farrell took $93,000 in contributions from his political action committee for prop d and used that money in his race for mayor. in a statement, farrell telling abc seven news, quote, we agreed to a settlement for an accounting error that we corrected and publicly disclosed months ago, which led us to terminate our prior legal counsel for this matter. his messaging online focused on the positive. >> i believe we will win tomorrow. >> the other candidates vying for the keys to san francisco also making their closing arguments to voters monday. incumbent mayor london breed has the challenge of persuading voters to give her a second term. >> give me another chance to continue the work that we know needs to be done here with

cooler from 24 hours ago and the winds early this morning will be calm. this is 8:00. a little bit of a breeze out there, but by the afternoon you'll begin to feel them from the north bay, the mountains there, the east bay, the diablo range, the santa cruz mountains. but particularly here, the overnight hours from our north bay interior mountains, mount saint helena, the solano bridge there, maybe some bridges and overpasses, the benicia bridge, some of that white knuckle driving, perhaps late tonight into tomorrow because of the gusty winds. this is the setup where we'll see these winds could be over 60 miles an hour tonight. so the relative humidity tuesday afternoon, today, anywhere from 10% inland to about 30 to 40% closer to the bay. and then with the wind all night long into tomorrow, we're starting out pretty low. and then we end up again just as low. so we'll be looking at the possibility of fire starts fire spreading and that dry atmosphere with above

let's see what that forecast looks like. if you're heading out to the polls today. hi, lisa. hi. >> you know, the fun is going to begin for the election and beyond with the weather as well, because our red flag warning gets started. this afternoon. early this afternoon, say 11:00 late this morning. but the winds really are going to pick up tonight into wednesday. and with that, the next eight hours when we get into the offshore flow, the relative humidity will drop off. then we have our wind advisory for the north bay interior mountains, 4:00 through 3:00 tomorrow. and that's when those highest winds from 60 to 70 miles an hour above 2000ft, 2500ft could be possible. so if you're driving late tonight or early tomorrow, you definitely will feel the wind buffeting your car there. so be careful. 52 in the city, it's 51 in san jose. gorgeous view with some high clouds here from mount tam. the sun up in less than ten minutes. and with those 40s this morning, it is cooler out there. it will be a mild afternoon, so starting out with the jacket and you can see the delta there and

also in napa. so not only will it be sunny, but we're going to be windy as you're driving home from work. so the windiest conditions even later than that throughout the overnight hours into early wednesday. so high fire danger, low relative humidity, critical for the next several days. gloria. all right. lisa. well, we're going to get started with a look at your overall map of the roads here in the bay area. >> a lot of green, but we are starting to see some more red pop up. that's of course, some of those slowdowns. and taking a closer look at some of those slowdowns, we're looking at highway four to the maze. 30 minutes antioch to hercules, 49 minutes. highway 85 to san jose airport. 28 minutes. and we do want to tell you about a multicar crash that we're monitoring. this is over in san jose on northbound 87 before 280. all lanes are blocked and one vehicle is overturned, and you could see that it is moving very slowly there. about 4 or 5mph. the backup is to capital expressway. and you could see a picture here showing that backup. it is pretty bad there

steps, a tribute to those who start as the underdog and climb to victory, vice president kamala harris was joined by star power throughout her final day on the campaign trail. >> we are voting for values and integrity. we are voting for the right to choose what happens to our own bodies. >> she spent months drawing a stark contrast between herself and former president donald trump, then spent the final two days avoiding trump by name. her campaign says to end on a positive note. >> our campaign has tapped into the ambitions, the aspirations and the dreams of the american people, and we know it is time for a new generation of leadership in america. >> trump's campaign has tried to steer focus towards issues related to the economy and immigration. >> are you better off now than you were four years ago? and

you. and happy election day. as you mentioned, today is the final day to vote in person. drop off your ballot, and even still register to vote at vote centers like this one here at the san mateo library. now, yesterday, the push to get more voters to the polls was more intense than ever. supervisor david canepa says there are still around 70,000 unregistered potential voters across san mateo county. republicans, too, are trying to turn out their voting base. the chair of the san francisco republican party says since 2020, republicans have registered millions of people across the country and thousands here in california. he believes those voters could be crucial in several important statewide ballot measures, as well as important seats in the house of representatives that the polls are not capturing those new those new registered voters. >> and they will you know, those kinds of folks tend to vote. >> this is one of those few times that i feel like we can actually make a change. it's really easy to think that it

that some of their schools could be shutting down. san jose's alum rock union school district says it must close campuses to deal with a $20 million budget deficit, and you can see which schools are being considered here. the district announced ten schools that may close or consolidate at the end of the school year. the district has seen a steady decline in their enrollment, which is part of the reason for the closures. parents and students are wondering what will happen to their schools next year. >> it's sad because either my siblings or i won't be able to see our friends because it's going to be like different schools. >> the superintendent says each school that closes saves the district $1 million in operating costs. the closure recommendations will be presented to the board of trustees on november 14th. the board will make the final decision on december 2nd. >> now it's time for our abc seven mornings advancer our way of highlighting some things happening in the day ahead here in the bay area. >> first, a san francisco election day tradition. former mayor willie brown will have his election day luncheon at john's

grill. the tradition dates back to the 1980s, but brown has been hosting the event since 2015. the lunch runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, with free food, drinks and music. >> and there are deals to be had this election day if you need a ride. uber and lyft both offering discounted rides to polling places. if you need a snack, krispy kreme is giving away donuts in honor of democracy. get it? restaurants like johnny rockets and round table pizza are offering discounts on their meals, and ikea is offering frozen yogurt today. >> all right. san francisco's embarcadero plaza could be getting a major update. today, mayor london breed is expected to introduce legislation to get funding to renovate the plaza. possible renovations include a new children's playground, entertainment spaces and a marketplace. the city would partner with real estate investment company bxp on the project. bxp would invest $2.5 million. the city would provide another $15 million to complete the upgrades. >> get out the vote. we're going to hear from bay area voters who

encompassed with this critical fire weather. the santa ana winds to the south, the diablo range here that will allow for those offshore winds to compress and get drier, move quicker through tonight and tomorrow. so everyone involved except right along the coast there winds anywhere from 25 to 35 miles an hour at the surface, 50 to 60 upper elevations. 52 san francisco. some clouds. now they'll thin out and we'll get partly cloudy to mostly sunny conditions. you can see the city there upper 60s to near 70 today. low 40s. it's a cool start out there. and the winds the next few hours. not bad, but they ramp up by the afternoon 20 miles an hour, then 30, and then late tonight into tomorrow. so when we get into the windiest conditions, our wind advisory for the north bay interior mountains from 4:00 today to 3:00 tomorrow. and so that relative humidity at about 10% and you can see from the east bay hills, the santa cruz mountains and the oranges here how dry it is going to be. this is 8:00 tonight, and it just increases as the winds continue
