thanking his supporters. tonight. we are expecting to hear from the mayor elect tomorrow morning. the votes aren't final, but lurie has a solid lead with 56% over breed's 43%. as you see here. enough for the sf native who led the city through the pandemic to concede. j.r. stone was in the room for breed's speech today and joins us live with more. j.r. >> i could feel the sadness in mayor breed's voice today when she began her press conference. yes, i've covered a recent campaign, but i've been covering her since she took office. i still remember the night ed lee died. back in 2017, she became acting mayor in the middle of the night and was later formally elected to the seat, serving more than six years in total. san francisco mayor london breed making headlines thursday, conceding to challenger daniel lurie. now mayor elect of san francisco. >> of course it's disappointing, but nevertheless the decision has been made. the campaign is over. it is time for us as a city to move forward.

>> while ballots are still being processed at city hall, mayor breed is down in the votes and said she didn't see a mathematical way that she could win. >> i called daniel lurie earlier today to congratulate him and made it very clear that my team and i stand ready to support him during his transition as to why voters opted for lurie over breed. >> here's abc seven news insider phil matier. >> in this race, it wasn't so much a question about the direction the city is on now, but who could get us to where we want to go the fastest? and they pick daniel lurie. he's got to make it clean and he's got to make it safe. >> mayor breed defended her record on crime during this speech, saying that san francisco currently has one of its lowest crime rates in more than a decade. that said, images of retail thefts like this in san francisco were commonly seen at one point under breed's leadership, along with car break ins and store closures in tourist areas like union square and fisherman's wharf. issues that are being addressed but do still plague the city by the bay

thursday, though breed wouldn't speculate on why she didn't win. >> i will just say that the campaign has to be behind us and we need to move forward. as a city, we can't look backwards. the voters of san francisco have made their decision and i, as a mayor of san francisco, have always respected the voters and honored the decisions that they made. >> mayor breed says she will continue to move san francisco forward during her final two months in office. i was impressed by how optimistic breed was thursday during the campaign, we heard her say, you can't buy san francisco. in reference to the money, lurie spent during his campaign. there was none of that this evening, and let's remember, for many san franciscans, this is what they wanted leadership wise. so to be continued, ama, now back to you. >> all right. j.r. thank you so much. so what changes might daniel lurie have in store for san francisco during the campaign? he told us he's going to start at city hall. >> day one of our transition is

the president elect and his team are preparing possible executive actions he could take on day one. sources familiar with the planning tell abc news they are focused on trump's main campaign issues, including immigration and tariffs on foreign products. top california leaders say they are ready for donald trump's potentially sweeping plans when he becomes president in january. trump has promised to take action with mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. he's also talked about challenging california's abortion climate and gun control policies. attorney general rob bonta says for months he's talked to attorneys general in other states, preparing, planning and strategizing for a possible trump return to the white house. >> if trump attacks your rights. i'll be there. if trump comes after your freedoms, i'll be there. >> governor newsom is convening a special session of the state legislature to quote, safeguard california values and

fundamental rights in the face of the incoming trump administration. however, there are indications those california values are held by fewer and fewer californians. the latest returns show 40% of californians voted for trump tuesday. compare that to 34% back in 2020. and developing news now out of southern california, where governor newsom has declared a state of emergency for the mountain fire. this wildfire has burned more than 20,000 acres in ventura county and it's just 5% contained tonight. officials say the flames have wiped out more than 100 structures, most of them homes. thoseacuate say theg so fast they had almost no time to get out. >> we walked out with nothing. everything got destroyed. we didn't have time to do anything, but leave it. the fire moves so fast. the wind was so fast you couldn't even move it. i've never seen moves. i've been here for 45 years.

>> at least ten people have been hurt. most of them from smoke inhalation. so let's turn now to our accuweather forecast. fortunately, our fire danger here has passed for now, and we are tracking wet weather ahead. abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel is here with a look at the chance of showers. sandhya. >> yeah, it's hard to believe that we're going to be talking about wet weather when we were just talking about fire danger. so let's talk about live doppler seven right now. that area of low pressure that you're seeing will send us a few opportunities for rain. so we're going to time out the first chance it comes in early sunday. hopefully you're sleeping around 6 a.m. north bay has the best chance of showers. you will notice by 9 a.m. it's still in the north bay and maybe a spot or two in the east bay. this is not going to last very long, and it's not a game changer for your weekend plans. by sunday afternoon, we're talking about a few hundredths of an inch from drizzle in places like san francisco or oakland to 2/10 in santa rosa. that's not our only opportunity for rain. we have more wet weather in the forecast, with the greatest probability on

monday. i'm going to be back to tell you more about this, which is encouraging considering we've been dealing with the fire danger in just a few minutes. yeah, it certainly is. >> thank you. sandhya. time now for our abc seven news at 11 helping you get ahead on some headlines coming up first. a controversial vote that could raise gas prices to fight climate change. the state is trying to cut planet warming emissions by requiring cleaner fuel. tomorrow, the california air resources board, known as carb, is set to vote on a plan that would speed up that process. the problem is carb staff have found the plan could increase gas prices by $0.47 next year. the agency has recently backpedaled on that estimate, saying it can't predict prices and claiming californians will save on fuel in the long run. >> a potential 50 cent increase just seems like it will be a huge burden on california consumers, and unfortunately, the prices of fuel and diesel impact absolutely everything. >> multiple democratic and republican lawmakers have asked carb to delay tomorrow's vote.

carb's executive officer has said they can't put it off because of state deadlines. another advancer looking toward tomorrow. it's the end of the season for a powerhouse team embroiled in a football fiasco. tomorrow is the last game of the season for the el cerrito high school football team. this week, they were banned from the north coast section playoffs because of an eligibility scandal involving the coach and multiple players. the school principal reported several team members played while ineligible. el cerrito had to forfeit a number of games, but they have been on a winning streak ever since. a rally in the south bay tonight as parents and students fight to keep their schools from closing. leaders san jose's berryessa union school district say they don't have enough students to keep every campus open. it's the latest of several districts to announce possible school closures. abc seven news reporter laura martinez looks at the district's plan and families reaction. >> students and parents are rallying to keep their public

schools open. >> i am feeling really sad and really disappointed that any school, any, any child within this district has to be relocated. >> the berryessa union school district in san jose is looking to close three of their 13 campuses. the district tasked an advisory committee with preparing a list of schools that could potentially close. there are five elementary schools and three middle schools up for consideration. a district spokesperson says the list was made using the state's best practices, but many parents said this process has been confusing. >> are you are you going to do something to stop it? and it's just really emotional for us at home. talking to your child. >> after the rally, a press conference was held. >> while we would accept this, we shouldn't. >> a statement from the district states low enrollment as a contributing factor. it reads in part busd has spent the last two years engaging in a thoughtful,

inclusive and collaborative process to address the financial impact of reduced funding. it went on to say school closures are an action of last resort that we take very seriously. parents questioned if the district has taken proper measures, and instead they want to give superintendents a raise, a 6.5% raise. >> but yet we're in some kind of financial deficit when our company is not doing well. we do not get raises, especially of 6.5%. >> we spoke with sean don bart, a father of two who attend cherrywood elementary school. the first school on the list of potential closures. >> these are public schools. at the end of the day, the public needs to be aware of what the basis of these decisions are, and i'm not sure if that's happening with full transparency. >> the school board is expected to make a decision on december 18th. in san jose. lauren martinez abc seven news. >> i can't stop thinking about

all of us work together for all that is you. are still missing after their boat capsized over the weekend near carmen beach. abc seven news reporter luz pena spoke to a woman waiting for word about her husband and teenage son, still lost at sea. >> for the last five days, tiffany palma has been holding on to hope. >> maybe they're out there, landed somewhere, and they just can't get help. that's something i like to hold on to. >> today, rescue teams found the first items that belonged to her

husband and two sons. after their fishing boat capsized on saturday. >> that's just the item that they found. that's my husband's lunch cooler. >> that's his shoes on the boat. six people. her husband johnny, her 14 year old son jake, 17 year old johnny junior, and three others, including their cousin and 11 year old boy who survived and said water got into the boat's electrical system. four miles from shore. he said that that they were together at one point, and everyone put him on top of the cooler because he was the youngest. and then at one another, you know, at a certain time, everybody just separated. and him and his dad were on. his dad was holding onto the cooler while he was on top of the cooler. they were drifting and he said after about a couple hours, his dad let go or disappeared. >> the 11 year old made it to shore and the next morning walked to a nearby highway in bodega bay, where he was rescued. hours later, 17 year old johnny junior's body was found.

week, mayor london breed announced a program to speed up installation of barriers to prevent thieves from crashing into union square businesses. it's unclear if these bollards are a result of that program, or were already in the works. arguments began in san francisco's lawsuit over the renaming of oakland airport. today, the city is suing the port of oakland after it renamed that city's airport to san francisco bay. oakland international airport. san francisco says that violates the city's trademark for sfo. it's asking a judge to issue a temporary injunction and stop oakland from keeping that name. native american culture was on full display today at san francisco city hall. the city hosted its annual american indian heritage month celebration, which included several dance performances. as you're seeing here, a traditional native blessing ceremony, the theme of this year's celebration, awakening the spirit of indigenous resistance and a bright new landmark will light up golden gate park starting tomorrow night. this large arch will

officially be unveiled. it's 26ft wide, 13ft tall, and runs on solar power. the arch is located at the starting point on the park's golden mile project. a mile of sculptures, large scale murals, and other works of art as part of the unveiling, the bay area ridge trail will be rerouted to run directly through the new arch, creating a location where art and nature can intersect. all right, it's time to get a check on our weather. lots of things going to be going on outside this weekend. abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel is here with some rain that may be coming our way. sandhya. >> yeah, but i don't think it's going to affect too many people's outdoor plans because most of it's going to come in early sunday morning when you're hopefully sleeping. let me show you a beautiful view of a waxing crescent as we look from our emeryville camera. the backdrop is spectacular, but the moon stands out because the visibility is fantastic. earlier tonight, when i caught the moon from our tower camera. here's a look at what's happening as a

result of the clear skies and calm conditions. in terms of the winds. temperatures are plunging. look at many of the inland areas like napa, fairfield, livermore, concord in the 40s. 43 santa rosa. you're already dropping in gilroy as well, compared to 24 hours ago. 18 degrees cooler in fairfield, down nine in half moon bay and encouraging news, as we had expected, relative humidity values are going up 54%. right now in san rafael, 48 in livermore. remember, these were in the teens. so let's take a look at what's happening on live doppler seven. you will notice that high pressure is backing away. that brought us the warmth today. we had mid 60s to upper 70s. low pressure is moving out. so the pressure difference between the two is not as high. and as a result we're dealing with lighter conditions. in terms of the winds. this low is going to drop down over the weekend and it's going to bring us some wet weather, but it's not going to be a washout for your weekend. right now on live

doppler seven. all clear as we look from our san jose camera. it is clear down there as well. tomorrow, patchy morning fog, a mild afternoon, your weekend weather a few showers sunday morning and monday which is also veterans day. widespread rain and breezy conditions expected so first thing tomorrow morning we start out with some patches of fog. notice that right there 330 in the afternoon, we'll see temperatures coming up into the 60s and the 70s chill in the air. you will feel it. i mean, it is november after all, 30s and 40s. so bundle up and if you're sending your kids off to school, make sure they have a jacket or a sweater tomorrow afternoon, you're looking at sunshine for most areas. fog near the coast, high clouds to the north, 60s and 70s. as we look ahead to what's going to happen, that fog layer will expand. we'll see more high clouds tomorrow going into saturday. and then look what happens on sunday morning. we see a few showers coming through here. it will all be gone before 10:00 11:00 in the morning. here comes that second system. that one is stronger and it is going
