morning early in the north bay 38, in santa rosa right now. so those clouds allowing for a little bit of insulation. 47 oakland and hayward are 24 hour temperature change, nothing too dramatic. a cool three degrees cooler in san jose. so there's clouds at the coast. we're in the 50s by 9:00 and by 10:00 near 60 degrees. sunny skies by 2:00. upper 60s, a few low 70s in the far inland valleys, and the afternoon highs very similar to yesterday, but a little bit brighter out there. so we'll enjoy a nice day before the rain arrives tomorrow. now amounts highest amounts will be in the upper elevations. we'll talk about that and more opportunities for rain after the monday system in a few minutes. steph. >> all right lisa thank you. the future of san francisco's great highway has been hotly debated. now it appears voters decided to have a two mile stretch of that highway closed. the latest numbers show measure k passing getting 54% of the vote. closing

off the roads to cars will create a new oceanfront park, but not everyone is happy. here's abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn as the sun sets at ocean beach, people enjoy another quiet weekend on the great highway without vehicle traffic. >> measure k if it officially passes, will make that a reality. seven days a week, not just on weekends. and that's exactly what chase davenport is hoping for. >> i just think that open spaces are important for the city. >> davenport is a coastal scientist who's thinking about the future of ocean beach and what's happening there. >> i think that we're going to have to experience the city in ways other than being in cars. a lot more. as the world changes. >> the great highway was shut down to vehicles temporarily during the pandemic. the city then closed it on weekends and holidays, but not everyone agrees with measure k and a complete shutdown. >> it's very disappointing right now for us. that did not want the great highway to be permanently closed to cars. >> richie greenberg lives in the richmond district. he says closing the great highway permanently will create some big

headaches, diverting traffic through normally quiet neighborhood streets. >> these streets here were not made for the kind of 20,000 cars per day volume that is here that uses the great highway. >> greenberg believes that will also impact businesses in the richmond district. >> people will potentially not want to come here because of congestion, because of the inconvenience, because of potential accidents, because of the potential of overflow. >> this movement has been led by people who live in the sunset for years. >> lucas lux with friends of the great highway park, says the pros of closing part of the road permanently to cars outweigh the cons. he says it's all about giving the community a safe space and a reason to come out. >> after proposition k wins, we are going to work together to make our streets safe for everyone in the family and have a world class park in our backyard. and so i think there's a way for us to have a real win win in the neighborhood.

>> but opponents say the local residents directly impacted by the closure and increased traffic didn't ask for this measure. >> this should not have been a ballot measure in the first place. >> a community split over what to do with the great highway in san francisco, suzanne phan abc7 news. >> in the south bay, a bomb threat caused a setback for election officials in santa clara yesterday. investigators now say the threat came in through an email at around 830 yesterday morning. authorities evacuated four buildings on the county's election office campus. the bomb squad was called out to sweep the buildings and the counting of ballots was suspended. no bomb was found and thankfully no injuries were reported either. >> the sheriff's office and also our county security. they are working together to sweep the offices. i saw a few puppies over here sniffing and working. >> santa clara county still has to process about 200,000 ballots from tuesday's election. officials tell us they lost

about five hours of work yesterday, but will work weekends and overtime to finish counting. they say the incident won't impact their ability to certify the election. oakland has recalled mayor shang tao. it's official. yes is outpacing no by nearly 2 to 1 margin. as you see here on your screen. once the vote is certified, tao is out and the city council president, nikki fortunato bass takes over as mayor. a special election will then be held 120 days following that certification. an alameda county district attorney, pamela price, is also being recalled as the county's first district attorney to be recalled. she faced criticism for being too lenient on crime. the margin is similar to the oakland mayor. recall nearly 2 to 1 in favor, so who could be the next alameda county da? abc seven news reporter anser hassan takes a look. recall price. >> recall price from the get go.

>> alameda county district attorney pamela price face efforts to recall her as of friday. the votes are in and price is out. >> we've never said lock them up and throw away the key. we've always said accountability is the most important thing. >> oakland resident brenda grisham is with the group safe, which led the recall effort. they accused da price of being soft on crime and not doing enough for victims. once the vote is officially certified, price will step down. the alameda county board of supervisors will appoint an interim da who will serve until the next general election in 2026, when the recall has been successful. >> we've seen political opponents that are visible or run before fill that void. >> professor david mcewen says the board will likely seek a candidate with a combination of prosecutorial management and victims rights experience, and someone who was an ada or a management level and not quite an executive level, but had managed a unit like a victim's crime unit. once the application process begins, the board will

narrow it down to 3 to 5 candidates and then conduct public interviews. those could happen as early as january. >> many of the programs at da price started will prove effective over the longer term, and i hope that the supervisors will be looking for somebody that's thinking incarceration can't solve every problem, can't solve problems of poverty, can't solve problems of mental illnes. >> christina soto deberry is the executive director of the prosecutor's alliance. it's a statewide organization focused on improving the criminal justice system. she was against the recall of da price. she says the board will also have to balance the pursuit of justice against what she calls the very real problems in the justice system. >> da price uncovered a very significant problem around the death penalty, where black and jewish and lgbtq citizens were being excused from juries simply because of their race or their orientation. that's inexcusable. and it is unjust. and i know that the supervisors will care to have somebody that will continue to dig into that problem in the east bay.

though, as intense winds are starting to calm this weekend. so far, 132 structures, mostly homes, have been destroyed. some people are allowed to return home to sort through the burnt remains. one couple said they were away when their home caught fire. >> we were in minnesota and our friends were texting us, asking us if we were okay, and i think they didn't want to tell us, but they knew that our house was on fire. >> and then somebody sent us a video of a tv newscast and we actually saw our house in flames. >> the mountain fire has burned through more than 20,000 acres already, and it's 21% contained as of this morning. all right. back here at home, let's get you outside and check in with lisa. good morning. hey, stephanie. >> good morning. it is 51 degrees on top of mount tam. you can see the nice view there. and looking at a sunny day on the way. so another day to soak up

francisco bay conservation and development commission to evaluate the possible effects of this change. new parking tickets are coming to san francisco and starting tomorrow, drivers could receive warnings for it. it's a change to the state's day lighting law, which now prohibits parking within 20ft of any crosswalk. the goal is to improve pedestrian safety at intersections statewide. the law took effect in january, but again, a reminder drivers in san francisco will start receiving warnings for violations tomorro. fines will start at $40 once the law is fully enforced next year. caltrans is continuing repair emergency barrier work on highway 101 and 80. the southbound 101 connector at i-80 is closed, as well as the southbound 101 on ramp from 10th and bryant street. the roads will reopen tomorrow by 9 a.m. a san francisco original is celebrating a big milestone this weekend. the legion of honor

museum is turning 100 years old. a celebration happened at the historic landmark at lands end. here's abc seven news reporter cornell bernard. >> it's time to party. cue the marching bands. or maybe you just want to ponder and think about art and the long history of san francisco's legion of honor. >> it's a wonderful day. we've got thousands of people here, and it's the real spirit of san francisco. >> the legion of honor at lands end is turning 100, and the celebration is huge with dozens of birthday cakes. this museum is home to one of the largest european art collections in california. a bridge between past and present, which began in 1924 when the doors first opened. >> it was through the vision of the founders, ama bretteville de spreckels and her husband adolph, that this museum was forged in the in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake. in the aftermath of the first world war. they had the vision, the

drive to create this museum. >> the arts are a unifying to our country, and i think it's going to be the salvation of our country where we can come together, forget our difference, be inspired. >> the legion of honor is neoclassical design, has a french connection. it's a replica of the palace of the legion of honor in paris. the main value we can find in the art of the exchanges and the relationship between france and united states, is the dignity of human beings. this building serves as a memorial to soldiers killed from california during world war one, and that's a fact not lost on many visitors this weekend. >> i am here to pay homage to those that need to be honored. >> francisco mijangos came dressed as a world war one soldier to honor the fallen and celebrate a san francisco original. >> this is one of the cultural icons that the city has to offe, and well, you only turn 100 years old once in your lifetime.

where all the action has been. and we have been recipients of the tail end of a few systems. and that is going to continue for this week. but we'll get a little bit of rain as we get into your monday. here's a look at the current numbers. it is 45 in san jose, 48 down at the airport with some low 50s downtown upper 30s at the coast, and more 30s here. we're looking at temperatures maybe a degree or two milder. we have a little bit of cloud cover, but still it's cold out there. 39 novato, 38, in santa rosa. and our forecast headlines for the week ahead, featuring the sunny skies today as the clouds thin out by about nine 10:00 and looking at tomorrow, veteran's day. rainy, breezy and cooler for just a portion of that morning or early afternoon. then the system moves on out of here and we are looking at other chances of rain as we get into wednesday and even late in the week, but these look to be favored to the north bay overall. looking at some cloudy skies and not a whole lot

of rain for the second half of the workweek, you'll see that in a moment. level one system light to moderate showers. slippery roads, and breezy to gusty winds for your monday. here's the way it looks today where we get into the sunny conditions. and then this afternoon, a little bit cloudier. maybe a few areas of drizzle along the coast. 630 the far north bay looking at a chance of rain. ukiah, cloverdale and then stopping this at 930. look how rainy it is in the north bay from santa rosa, all the way down to san francisco. and then the second half of the day between, oh, say about noontime and 2 p.m, it pushes through the east bay. the peninsula, and by 2:00 notice it is pushed through the bay area. so rainfall amounts, maybe a few showers behind it and nothing too significant. but still, we're all looking at around a 10th of an inch to 2/10 higher elevations could see upwards of a third of an inch. so this is right on through monday afternoon. and as we look at that first system, notice what happens as we go towards wednesday and the rest of the week. the rainfall accumulation

be shutting down san jose's alum rock union school district says it must close campuses to deal with a $20 million budget deficit. the district announced the ten schools that may close or consolidate at the end of the year. abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez spoke with families who could be impacted. >> parents and students in san jose are still processing the news. their schools are facing potential closures. >> honestly, pretty sad because either my siblings or i won't be able to see our friends because

it's going to be like different schools. >> melanie delgado is in the sixth grade at renaissance academy at fisher. it's one of seven schools the alum rock union school district is recommending for closure. now students are thinking, what will this mean for them next year? >> i don't know. lots of kids. i feel like more like nervous. >> the district is citing a steady decline in enrollment. nearly ten years ago, they had around 10,000 students. now they have 7200. >> it was really upsetting that i thought we were doing good and it's not. >> we spoke with a mom who didn't want to share her name, but has been an active parent at lucia academy, where her son is in the second grade. lucia is one of two schools the district is recommending consolidating, not closing. superintendent herman cerda held an informational meeting monday morning for parents. >> i asked her specifically if they were going to keep the staff members. so what? he

answered was that they were going to look for empty, i don't know, empty space at san antonio. and then consolidate lucia there. >> sarda said the district is facing a $20 million deficit each school they can close will save them $1 million in operating costs. >> when you submit your budget to the county, you have to show three years that you're fiscally solvent. we are only showing two years. the third year we're bankrupt. >> it's just worries. worrisome. what's going to happen to them? >> in san jose lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> happening today, a rare playoff game for an expansion team and their inaugural season. bay fc made it to the playoffs, and they will visit the washington spirit today. the spirit is the two seed in the playoffs. the spirit beat bay fc in two meetings in the regular

now at 530. president elect donald trump with a swing state sweep. the transition underway as we learn more about who will serve alongside him for his second term in office. good morning everybody. we'll have more on that in just a moment. but first, lisa is here with your forecast and it is chilly out there. it is. >> that has not changed. the sun coming up at 645. so it will be several hours before we can warm up out there because we once again have plenty of 30s up in the north bay along the coast there. how about that 39? half moon bay, upper 30s. by the delta, upper 40s, oakland and hayward. so with a few clouds around, we are a couple degrees milder. not much though. up in the north bay. cooler in the south bay. looking for a few high clouds and then a mostly sunny afternoon where temperatures will reach about 70 in our warmest inland valleys and then around the bay shore, some upper 60s for a mostly sunny sky back towards the coast. it will be partly sunny

information about who will be on his team for his second term. here's abc news reporter chuck sivertsen. >> president elect donald trump will return to the white house for the first time since he left office nearly four years ago, president biden extending an invitation to see him on wednesday as the transition to a second trump presidency continues to move forward. there are questions about who will be in his administration saturday evening. trump announcing on truth social that he will not ask his former ambassador to the u.n, nikki haley, and his former secretary of state, mike pompeo, to be part of his next administration. another question surrounding the administration is what role elon musk could have. elon musk. sources tell abc news musk has been on calls the president elect has had with foreign leaders from mar a lago, including ukrainian president zelensky and turkish president erdogan. at one point, musk, speaking to zelensky himself, who thanked the tech billionaire for his starlink system, which ukraine has relied on for

communications during its war with russia. musk has proposed a new department of government efficiency, saying he can slash $2 trillion of waste from the federal budget. we have lived on. but since his company, spacex, currently receives billions of dollars in federal government contracts, a role in the administration could create conflicts of interest. chuck sivertsen, abc news, new york. >> south korean president yoon suk yeol held an emergency meeting this morning. yoon called for launching finance, trade and industry consultations as the u.s. now prepares for a second trump presidency. the u.s. is one of south korea's top trading partners, meaning its economy could take a big hit if trump follows through with his tariffs plan. the country's exports could drop nearly $45 billion over the course of several years. now, experts say a new trump administration may offer more than just cash benefits for silicon valley and the future of tech. abc seven news south bay reporter dustin dorsey explains how things could

change come january if the bay area was its own country. >> it would be the 17th largest in the world, and as the home of talent, innovation and technology, silicon valley would be the driving economic force. experts are hopeful that its role could become even greater with the trump presidency. jim wunderman is the president and ceo of the bay area council. >> i think a lot of folks in silicon valley are really hopeful that this will be a new day for them. and, you know, we need to help technology all we can. >> kris farmer is the ceo of signalfire, a venture capital and technology firm based in san francisco. he says right now, antitrust laws, higher taxes and overregulation are stifling innovation, especially in the still growing field of ai. last year, president joe biden signed an executive order that placed guardrails around ai development while not providing details. trump has promised to dismantle that framework on day one. and farmer believes the trump administration could help clear regulatory hurdles, especially

for startups, with clarification of regulation and what can and can't be done with ai, with open source models, all those types of things that helps the whole ecosystem know where it's okay to play ball and where it's not. lower regulatory burdens for companies could also allow for more of them to go public easier, unlocking a financial benefit. >> it allows companies to get access to the public markets from a capital standpoint, to fuel this growth. but it also allows the public to participate in a way that i think is critically important. >> wunderman says growth in a lot of national investments, like the chips act, has slowed in california. it's harder to build and expand, so companies leave. both wunderman and farmer hope for stronger ties with a trump white house. i think we have to figure out ways to work with this administration best we can, and it won't always be, you know, maybe what we would hope it to be. >> but in a lot of ways it could turn out to be very positive. >> a benefit for silicon valley

and the country in the south bay. dustin dorsey, abc seven news. >> coming up on this week, abc news anchor jonathan karl will sit down with influential podcast host and harris supporter charlamagne tha god. you can watch the full interview on this week at eight this morning right here on abc seven. well, another sighting of princess kate of the royal family attending a festival of remembrance. kate middleton, also known as catherine, princess of wales, is making a return to public duties. it comes two months after announcing she's cancer free. she and others arrived at the event wearing black with a red poppy. as you see here, which is a symbol of respect to those who died in conflict. middleton is expected to attend today's main remembrance day ceremony at buckingham palace. now to the war in the middle east. qatar is pausing its role in ceasefire negotiations between israel and hamas. officials say both sides are no longer negotiating in good faith or constructively.

both countries, including egypt, have served as an intermediary for both sides of the talk. a temporary ceasefire was mediated by egypt and qatar last year. that's when hamas released 105 hostages, and israel released 240 palestinian prisoners. now this comes as we see a show of support in oakland for children caught in the crossfire of the israel-hamas war. palestine will be free. >> palestine will be free. >> organizers held a press conference as part of a day of action for children in the middle east. this was near oakland children's hospital. major cities across the u.s. are hosting similar events to commemorate lives lost in the war. the united nations released an analysis this week of so-called verified deaths. the un says in the first six months of this war, more than 3500 of the 8000 deaths were children.

dry in the north bay the middle of the day, between about 10 to 2 around the airport. oakland say emeryville and danville. you've got the showers throughout the early afternoon, but by the later afternoon, the front has exited the south bay. and we'll be looking at maybe a few light showers behind it. but overall, we'll have sunny skies and rainfall amounts. most of it will fall in the upper elevations over a quarter of an inch, maybe 4/10, and the rest of us a 10th to 2/10. so not a whole lot out there. we have a very dry air mass at this front. has to push on through. so once again a lot of the rainfall has been falling in the pacific northwest, stopping this after the rain moves in on monday. so you see we still have that 10th to 2/10 around the bay. but as we go through the rest of the workweek, there are rain chances throughout the bay. but it doesn't really add up to much, most of it to the north of us. highs today, then mid 60s in
