>> now, abc seven mornings live now at nine. >> the plan to partially close the great highway in san francisco is moving forward. but the debate is far from over. then a bomb threat puts ballot counting on pause in the south bay. what election officials are now saying about the impact? and we'll take you live outside from our emeryville camera. sunny skies for now, but how long will that last? lisa is here with what you need to know. good morning everybody. thank you for sharing part of your sunday with us. we just took a walk outside and it's a bit chilly out there. it is certainly chilly, but it's dry and cold and we're used to that with temperatures coming up slowly throughout the afternoon. >> live doppler seven right now shows the activity in the pacific northwest, but that's going to change as soon as tomorrow when we get a cold front. level one system sweeping through the area. first in the north bay. right now it is 55. in san francisco, 56 in san jose. and a nice view there of

our exploratorium camera. so a cool day today. downtown light winds though. 47, santa rosa, 52, in napa and temperatures will be slow to warm today. by the next hour or so, we'll be near 60 and then upper 60s to near 72 3:00 in the afternoon, mostly sunny skies. a cool night tonight. the clouds increase, maybe a few sprinkles, and we'll talk about the first half of the day. rainy in the north bay, the second half of the day in the south bay, and still some sunshine in between. stephanie. >> all right. lisa. thank y. the future of san francisco's great highway has been hotly debated, and now it appears voters have decided to have that two mile stretch of the highway closed permanently. the latest numbers show measure k passing, getting 54% of the vote, closing off the road to cars will create a new oceanfront park, but not everyone is happy about it. here's abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn as the sun sets at

ocean beach, people enjoy another quiet weekend on the great highway without vehicle traffic. >> measure k, if it officially passes, will make that a reality seven days a week, not just on weekends. and that's exactly what chase davenport is hoping for. >> i just think that open spaces are important for the city. >> davenport is a coastal scientist who's thinking about the future of ocean beach and what's happening there. >> i think that we're going to have to experience the city in ways other than being in cars a lot more, as the world changes. >> the great highway was shut down to vehicles temporarily during the pandemic. the city then closed it on weekends and holidays, but not everyone agrees with measure k and a complete shutdown. >> it's very disappointing right now for us that did not want the great highway to be permanently closed to cars. >> richie greenberg lives in the richmond district. he says closing the great highway permanently will create some big headaches, diverting traffic through normally quiet neighborhood streets. >> these streets here were not made for the kind of 20,000 cars

per day volume that is here that uses the great highway. >> greenberg believes that will also impact businesses in the richmond district. >> people will potentially not want to come here because of congestion, because of the inconvenience, because of potential accidents, because of the potential of overflow. >> this movement has been led by people who live in the sunset for years. >> lucas lux with friends of the great highway park, says the pros of closing part of the road permanently to cars outweigh the cons. he says it's all about giving the community a safe space and a reason to come out. >> after proposition k wins. we are going to work together to make our streets safe for everyone in the family and have a world class park in our backyard. and so i think there's a way for us to have a real win win in the neighborhood. >> but opponents say the local residents directly impacted by the closure and increased traffic didn't ask for this measure. >> this should not have been a ballot measure in the first place. >> a community split over what

to do with the great highway in san francisco, suzanne phan. abc seven news. >> a bomb threat caused a setback for election officials in santa clara saturday. investigators say the threat came in through email at about 830 yesterday morning. authorities evacuated four different buildings on the county's election office campus. the bomb squad was called out to sweep those buildings, and the counting of ballots was suspended. thankfully, no bomb was found and no injuries were reported. >> the sheriff's office and also our county security. they are working together to like, sweep the offices. i saw a few these over here sniffing and working. >> santa clara county still has to process about 200,000 ballots from tuesday's election. officials tell us they lost about five hours of work yesterday, but will work weekends and overtime to finish that counting. they say the incident will not impact their ability to certify the election. now oakland has recalled mayor

shang tao. it's official. yes. as you can see here, is outpacing. no. by nearly a 2 to 1 margin. once the vote is certified, tao is out and the city council president, nikki fortunato bass will take over as interim mayor. a special election will then be held 120 days following that certification, and alameda county district attorney pamela price is also being recalled as the county's first da to be recalled and she's faced criticism for being too lenient on crime. the margin is similar to the oakland mayor recall nearly 2 to 1 in favor. so who could be the next alameda county da? abc seven news reporter anser hassan takes a look. recall race. >> recall price from the get go. >> alameda county district attorney pamela price face efforts to recall her as of friday. the votes are in and price is out. >> we've never said lock them up and throw away the key. we've always said accountability is the most important thing.

>> oakland resident brenda grisham is with the group safe, which led the recall effort. they accused da price of being soft on crime and not doing enough for victims. once the vote is officially certified, price will step down. the alameda county board of supervisors will appoint an interim da who will serve until the next general election in 2026, when the recall has been successful. >> we've seen political opponents that are visible or run before fill that void. >> professor david mcewen says the board will likely seek a candidate with a combination of prosecutorial management and victims rights, experience, and someone who was an ada or a management level and not quite an executive level, but had managed a unit like a victim's crime unit. once the application process begins, the board will narrow it down to 3 to 5 candidates and then conduct public interviews. those could happen as early as january. many of the programs at da price started will prove effective over the longer term, and i hope that the supervisors will be looking for somebody that's thinking incarceration can't

solve every problem, can't solve problems of poverty, can't solve problems of mental illness. christina soto deberry is the executive director of the prosecutor's alliance. it's a statewide organization focused on improving the criminal justice system. she was against the recall of da price. she says the board will also have to balance the pursuit of justice against what she calls the very real problems in the justice system. >> da price uncovered a very significant problem around the death penalty, where black and jewish and lgbtq citizens were being excused from juries simply because of their race or their orientation. that's inexcusable, and it is unjust. and i know that the supervisors will care to have somebody that will continue to dig into that problem in the east bay. >> anser hassan abc seven news. >> we should note, though, it's very unlikely the outcome will change in this race. another round of results is expected by tomorrow. for the latest election results for races all across the bay area and the

the enforcement action includes two properties in the gary felony neighborhood, where authorities served two warrants this weekend. over the past four months, police and california cannabis control officers have also issued more than $4 million in fines. this is a similar story to a story we told you about back in august. large homes linked to chinese nationals were also turned into illegal grow houses in antioch. police raids turned up more than a million dollars worth of illegal weed, while raiding some 60 homes. at the time, cannabis control suspected there were still more than 100 grow houses operating in southern california . now, fire crews are working hard to battle a wildfire burning in ventura county. they're making progress this morning as intense winds are starting to calm this weekend. so far, 134 structures, mostly homes, have been destroyed. some people are allowed to return home to sort through burnt remains. one couple told us they were away when their home caught

fire. >> we were in minnesota and our friends were texting us, asking us if we were okay, and i think they didn't want to tell us, but they knew that our house was on fire. >> and then somebody sent us a video of a tv newscast, and we actually saw our house in flames . the mountain fire has burned through more than 20,000 acres already. >> it's 26% contained as of this morning here in the bay area. new parking tickets are coming to san francisco and starting tomorrow, drivers could receive warnings for it. it's a change to the state's daylighting law, which now prohibits parking within 20ft of any crosswalk. the goal is to improve pedestrian safety at intersections statewide. the law took effect in january, but again, a reminder drivers in san francisco will start receiving warnings for violations as soon as tomorrow. fines will start at $40 once that law is fully enforced next year, caltrans is

continuing repairing emergency barriers on highway 101 and 80. the southbound 101 connector at i-80 is closed, as well as the southbound 101 on-ramp from 10th and bryant streets. the roads will reopen tomorrow by 9 a.m. in time for the holidays. toys for tots is seeking donations in livermore. it's part of the disney ultimate toy drive. marines, volunteers and employees are set up outside of the disney outlet store. it benefits local kids and families in need for the holiday season. you know, to see a kid get a toy during this holiday season will fill your heart with a ton of joy. >> so toy for tots does that for over 70,000 kids in the alameda county and we need our partners to continue to help us to step up and help us collect toys to do different types of toy drives out there to donate. uh, and to make a difference for our community. i love to see those smiling faces. >> you can bring a new unwrapped
