satellite radar composite and the forecast animation showing you the timing of this storm. so let's take a look at it right now. starting at 8:00 this evening we'll see the first little wave of light rain pushing on to the north coast. it won't affect much of the bay area at all, but during the overnight and early morning hours, we'll see the full body of that cold front pushing onshore by 7:00 tomorrow morning. it should be raining up in the area of cloverdale, santa rosa and the rain will be light to moderate. so it's going to be a wet system as it swings through the bay area by noon, it will be pushing south of the golden gate and over to the east bay as well. and then by 3 or 4 in the afternoon, most of that rain should be out of here. as that system travels over to the sierra to produce snowfall. so the storm ranks on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale, a level one. that's a storm of light intensity. and for tomorrow, we expect light to moderate rain, slippery roads and gusty to breezy conditions, or breezy to gusty at times. now, the forecast animation calls for rainfall totals ranging generally from about 2/10 of

an inch to 4/10 of an inch, maybe a little bit higher up in places like yountville, closer to a half inch there, and ukiah close to a half inch there as well. i'll be back a little bit later with a look at more rain coming. our way in the week ahead on the accuweather seven day forecast. dion. all right. >> spencer, thanks. now in the north bay rain is good news for firefighters who sy the approaching weather system will greatly reduce the risk of wildfires after a long, hot summer season. meantime, some local veterans day celebrations are still on track, ready to move forward, rain or shine. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard takes a look. >> rain is headed back to the bay area and local firefighters are happy to see it. >> this will be a really good thing for us as we look to try to turn the corner in fire season. >> sonoma county fire district battalion chief mike stornetta says there's still plenty of dry grass and brush out there to burn, but november rains could help pause and reduce the wildfire risk. after a busy fire season. >> obviously, any of the rain

that we're going to get is going to be a welcome sign for us as we look to you know, possibly end fire season. but, you know, until we start seeing green grass grow on the hills, we maintain our readiness. >> he hopes the public will stay ready to. petaluma's veterans day parade is one of the largest in northern california. this year, there's a warning for spectators. >> if you're coming out, bring an umbrella. >> with hundreds taking part. parade organizer joe noriel says rain delays are not an option. >> parade cause rain or shine. our community loves its veteran, so we don't expect any downturn in participation. of course, all our veterans will be here as they see far worse conditions. >> we've got a wide variety of tarps, ranging from light duty to heavy duty. >> tarps, flashlights and rain ready items are starting to sell at garrett ace hardware in windsor. so is it too early to start thinking about breaking out the winter rain gear? maybe not. i'll take it just in case.

>> we have our heavy duty high vis jackets. they're ranging from 54 to 99 bucks. >> adam evans says it's never too early to get ready. >> i would say that to do the prep before it starts pouring is probably the biggest step that anyone can take to prevent any water damage in sonoma county, cornell bernard abc7 news. >> new details of a proposal being offered by the oakland diocese to settle hundreds of lawsuits related to alleged sexual abuse by priests. that plan, presented to a bankruptcy court, could create a survivor's trust of 160 to $198 million. it would be funded with real estate sales, a loan, and cash resources. the church says it could be used to settle nearly 350 child sexual abuse claims. we heard from an attorney for the victims who called it a scam and a sham, and that would shortchange people already victimized by the church. in

a statement of its own, the diocese says it recognizes, quote, no amount of money can fully and satisfactorily compensate survivors for the abuse they suffered. they then added it believes the plan compensates them in a fair way. that also allows the church to continue its mission. the san francisco naacp held a town hall meetg to discuss troubling racist text messages sent to public school students and faculty. the fbi is investigating the message, which directed recipients, to quote, report to the nearest plantation to pick cotton. it was sent nationally and received by some sfusd students this afternoon. speakers at the third baptist church condemned the hateful message. they also revealed african american students at san francisco schools were targeted with in-person verbal attacks. a crackdown on large scale illegal pot grows in northern california. fairfield police seized more than 8000 cannabis plants, all while shutting down

eight illegal grow homes. police say the homes also contain dangerous chemicals and were at risk of electrical overload. fires. warrants were served at two locations this weekend and nearly a million dollars in citations handed out. fairfield police say they've been working with california cannabis control officers over the past four months on the crackdown. now, you may remember this is similar to a story we brought you this past august. million dollar homes in antioch that were also turned into illegal pot farms. back then, police raided 60 homes and confiscated more than a million dollars worth of weed. at the time, cannabis control suspected there were still more than 100 grow houses operating. officials say the homes at the centers of both cases were owned by chinese nationals. new rules about parking are coming to san francisco, and pretty soon drivers could start getting tickets. all of this is because of a change to the state's day lighting law, which prohibits

parking within 20ft of any crosswalk. so starting tomorrow, drivers parked too close to an intersection will receiveto an warnings. then, beginning in january, $40 fines will be handed out while the new rule will eliminate thousands of parking spaces in the city. officials say the goal is to improve pedestrian safety. well, coming up next, the calls for a supreme court justice to step down with joe biden's presidency coming to an end. what we're hearing about the future plans of justice sonia sotomayor. also, 40 niners rookie wide receiver ricky pearsall scores his first career touchdown just ten weeks after being shot during a robbery attempt. where the niners, though able to get a much needed road win in tampa. chris alvarez joins us with highlights coming up a little later in sports. and once again, do you want to take a live look outside where. yes, it still looks dark out there. more rain is on the way. we have spencer coming up to tell us which days

shooting at tuskegee university. authorities say a 25 year old found leaving the scene was

charged with possessing a machine gun. it's unclear if there are any other suspects. that shooting happened near the end of the university's 100th homecoming weekend. one person, an 18 year old, was killed. they were not a student at the schoo. 16 other people were injured. the university canceled all classes for tomorrow. supreme court justice sonia sotomayor is making it clear she will not step down before president-elect trump is inaugurated. some people on the left are calling for her to resign so that she can be replaced by president biden while he's still in office. sources close to her tell abc news the justice is in good health, while another told cnn, quote, the court needs her now more than ever. firefighters are making gains on the mountain fire in ventura county. it's just over 25% contained tonight. that fire has burned more than 20,000 acres so far since it started on wednesday. and 134 structures were destroyed. but more than 11,000 structures

remain threatened. winds have weakened over the weekend, so firefighters are racing to get more containment before the winds pick back up. abc news reporter jacqueline lee described some of the challenges. >> fire officials say the threat is not over yet. even though you might not see a fire, it's still smoldering underground, so they're trying to prevent it from reigniting. >> six people, including a firefighter, were injured in that fire. thousands are still under evacuation orders. up next, reaching new heights. bitcoin hits a record high. what experts say is causing this cryptocurrency surge. and once again, taking a live look outside okay. we can see things in this shot. now this is overlooking the ferry building and the bay bridge. spencer christian will have a look at your accuweather forecast traffic and nightfall coming up in sports. >> the 40 niners begin the second half of the regular season in tampa bay. welcome back christian mccaffrey. it was a fight to the finish and did a

under ten miles per hour. all across the bay area. here's a live view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco where it's 58 degrees. right now we have 60 in oakland, 61 hayward, mid 60s at san jose and redwood city, 52 at half moon bay. and then from our rooftop camera looking across the embarcadero 57 degrees right now at both santa rosa and petaluma, 58 at napa, 54 fairfield, concord, 62 degrees and 58 in livermore. excuse me. and now we'll take a look at our forecast headlines tomorrow, veteran's day. it will be rainy, breezy and cooler than it has been for a while. tuesday we get a brief sunny break, but then the unsettled weather comes back wednesday through the weekend. more chances of rain and drizzle with little intervals of sunshine here and there. so let's check out our forecast animation and the approaching rainfall. starting at 8:00 tonight. there may be a few sprinkles moving into the north bay, into the northernmost part of our viewing area. by 8 p.m, but not until the early morning hours around 7 a.m. or so will we see more concentrated rain pushing onshore. first, up in the north bay, cloverdale down to santa rosa. then, between

7 a.m. and about noon, we'll see that frontal system sweep through the bay area slightly south of the golden gate, slicing into the peninsula and over to the east bay, producing moderate rainfall in that region. by about 3:00 in the afternoon. it should be generally out of the bay area and pushing over into the sierra as a snowstorm. now on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale, this is a level one storm. a storm of light intensity producing light to moderate rainfall tomorrow, slippery roadways and breezy to gusty conditions at times. we estimate the rainfall totals by 11:00. tomorrow night will range generally from about 2/10 of an inch to about 4/10 of an inch and over in the sierra. a winter weather advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. tomorrow to midnight tomorrow. we're looking at about 2 to 8in of snow above 6500ft, with gusts up to 45mph back to the bay area. tonight, as the clouds increase and the rain approaches, we'll have low temperatures, mainly in the low or low to mid 50s. highs tomorrow. upper 50s at the coast, mainly low 60s all

around the bay. shoreline. inland areas low to mid 60s up to about 64. in places like livermore 65 san jose and up north 65 at san rafael. here's the accuweather seven day forecast after the level one storm tomorrow. tuesday. mostly sunny and dry, not much milder though. high temperatures only in the mid 60s into wednesday and thursday. periods of drizzle, sunshine breaking through from time to time. rainfall rain gets steadier and a little bit heavier on friday as another level one storm comes in and the weather remains unsettled going into the weekend. >> all right, the second half of the season began for the 40 niners today, returng from their bye week, beginning their playoff push in tampa bay this afternoon. now during the kyle shanahan era, the niners really been a better team after the bye week. and today the season debut of christian mccaffrey. after missing eight games with achilles tendinitis and cmc, was ready to go. good to see him back. late first quarter. brock purdy connecting with ricky pearsall. and there goes the rookie for his first

and just six points. ouch. eagles win 34 to 6. dallas has lost four straight. they're three and six. they are winless at home. sot right here on abc seven. bay fc just the second expansion team to make the playoffs in their first year. facing the washington spirit in d.c. 82nd minute. it's asisat oshoala opening the scoring one nil. bay fc and that's caused to dance. but the spirit took the lead in extra time when bay fc unfortunately kicked in an own goal. oh no. bay fc falls two one. but hey, congratulations on a playoff berth in their very first season. what an impressive feat that was. it is now tara vanderveer caught a big day at stanford ahead of today's game against gonzaga. they renamed the floor after the one and only head coach who just retired this spring after 38 years. coach vanderveer, currently the ncaa all time winningest coach, her mom and many former players were there. and true to tara, she appreciates the little touches the most. >> it's actually my signature. that's really my signature. so it's really special. i'm just, you know, it's just you have to pinch

francisco's veterans day parade this morning. a celebration of service along the city's waterfront. hear those who served in the nation's armed forces were joined by their families. junior rotc drill teams, first responders and marching bands. organizers moved the parade route off market street a few years ago and onto the embarcadero to give the fisherman's wharf area a boost. now, don't forget some businesses will be closed for the federal holiday tomorrow. that includes most banks. there also won't be any usps mail deliveries. fedex and ups, though, will be open. also, expect nonessential government offices to be closed. the gift that you gave was great weather for that. exactly. >> nice weather. >> yeah. what did you contribut? >> viewership. i'm speechless. i'm speechless. >> i have to give him a hard time since he's, you know, been off on questions. yeah. away
