breaking news is in san mateo county, where the president of the deputy sheriffs association has been arrested by his own colleagues. good evening. >> i'm dan ashley and i'm ama daetz. thank you for joining us. in just the past 30 minutes, several members of the board of supervisors held a news conference to discuss the arrest. >> abc seven news reporter tim johns was there and is live with more. tim. >> yeah. dan. it has been a crazy day here in san mateo county, as you just said. i just moments ago stepped out of that special news conference. now, it was called by two of the supervisors here in the peninsula to discuss the findings of this, just released report. now, this report is a result of the county hiring an independent investigator back in july to investigate sheriff cristina corpus. now, this all stemmed from dozens of complaints from current and former employees of the

sheriff's office. that investigation resulted in this report, which, as you guys can see, is 400 pages here. it includes things such as, you know, retaliation, complaints, conflict of interest complaints. all in all, there were 15 allegations that were looked into. 12 of them are believed to have been substantiated. according to this report. now, importantly, the report also accuses sheriff cristina corpus and victor enea, who serves on her executive team, of having a personal relationship since 2021. and like i said, it includes accusations of intimidation, retaliation, conflicts of interest among other members of the department as well. now, also today, the head of the sheriff's union, carlos tapia, was arrested for felony grand theft and theft of false pretenses. he has since been released on bond. but the sheriff held a press conference just moments before the supervisor spoke. here at the county building. the supervisors say the firing of tapia is a

distraction from this report, and they believe it is another example of the retaliatory efforts of the sheriff and the department she has led. now, the report concludes by calling on the sheriff to step down and it says, quote, nothing short of new leadership will save this organization. now, the board of supervisors is set to meet tomorrow at 4:00 to discuss possible next steps. those could include things like censoring the sheriff of course, calling for her removal, which they have already done today, and even things such as bringing a charter amendment before voters here in san mateo county, which would allow them to remove the sheriff from office. i'm live in san mateo county. tim johns, abc seven news. >> okay, tim, thank you for that. in the east bay, a former alameda county sheriff's deputy was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison today for killing a dublin husband and wife. that is according to the east bay times. former deputy devin williams was convicted of shooting maria and benson tran execution style with his service pistol in 2022 at their home in front of their family. their

teenage son held maria tran as she died. evidence indicated williams was enraged and obsessed. following a months long relationship with maria tran, nine sheriff's deputies and two medical employees are facing felony charges in connection with the death of an inmate at the santa rita jail in dublin. >> that's according to a new report by a media media partners at the east bay times. a maurice monk was found unresponsive in his cell three years ago. an attorney for his family says he was left alone without adequate medication or care, and may have been dead for days before deputies found him. last week, sheriff yesenia sanchez acknowledged that mistakes were made, but they did not rise to the threshold of criminal negligence. >> now to the latest on the recall of the alameda county district attorney, pamela price. as we've reported, she lost the recall race and will likely step down once the votes are certified in december. but some of the people who led the recall campaign against her are now raising another issue. abc seven

news reporter anser hassan explains protect the win was alameda county district attorney pamela price's slogan in fighting the recall against her. >> now, price's opposition wants the board of supervisors to protect their win. >> our major concern now is that she is pretty vindictive, and we're so worried that, you know, she would be start firing the people. they are very capable and very experienced. >> karl chan is with save. save alameda county. for everyone. they led the recall campaign. they came to the alameda county board of supervisors meeting on tuesday to urge the board to impose a moratorium on all staff dismissals by d.a. price. >> so we have to do what we must to protect this experience and qualify people. >> last month, former chief inspector craig chiu filed this wrongful termination lawsuit against d.a. price and chan claims. on friday, advocates supervisor jennifer mello was allegedly fired. this is the post from the da facebook page in 2022, showing mello accepting an award for national crime

victims rights week. we did reach out to the alameda county district attorney's office and jennifer mello neither returned requests for comment. meanwhile, the group safe says they will make a list of recommendations to present to the board about who should serve as interim da. >> there's a number of da's. there's judges. there's people in the county. there's people out of the county that have expressed interest. >> terrence evans is a partner at the international law firm duane morris. he also chairs the california lawyers association. he says whoever steps in as interim da will need experience as a prosecutor and have a strong understanding of the alameda county district attorney's office. >> i think that's going to be important to have somebody who can hit the ground running, who understands how the department works, who understands the personnel and understands what's required to effectuate the type of change that the voters of alameda county are demanding. >> d.a. price will step down once the vote is certified. the board of supervisors will likely appoint the interim da early next year. in the east bay. anser hassan abc seven news.

>> right now, governor newsom is in washington to ask his democratic allies for help in preparation for a second term for president elect donald trump. california legislators are already prepared to head back to sacramento on december 2nd for a special session. to quote trump proof the state. abc seven news reporter monica madden is following the story, and monica, how is newsom looking exactly to position california in this regard? >> well, dan, under governor newsom's leadership, california will again be the liberal foil to conservative policies under the trump white house, despite the president elect gaining ground in our state since his 2020 run for office. newsom is rapidly rolling out a so-called trump proof policy plan. governor gavin newsom preparing to go on defense against another trump oval office. >> my job is not to wake up every single day and get a crowbar and try to put it in the spokes of the wheel of the trump administration. that said, fourth point. i'm not naive either, and we're pragmatic and

we will stand firm in the final days of the biden-harris administration, newsom is pleading for help in a tuesday trip to dc. so just left the white house, met with senior officials, met with the president himself, talking about everything we need to do to prepare for this transition, to prepare california, protecting our environmental leadership in california, issues related to health care, disaster recovery, disaster relief. fema funding is a great day at the white house. >> we can expect a lot of litigation in the coming year. >> california filed more than 100 lawsuits against the trump administration from 2016 to 2020. political experts say this is a standard side effect of constitutional checks and balances. >> whether it's a republican or a democrat. in the white house, where state governments are pushing back and making sure the states don't go too far and the states are pushing back to make sure the federal government doesn't go too far. that's all part of the system. the lawsuits and the fighting is actually the design. >> there are limitations on states power over the federal

government, but expect blue states to test those limits, just as red states did under the biden administration. >> the first thing california is trying to do is shore up its resources so that it can respond with lawsuits to policies that directly aim at the state. >> we don't know exactly which promises trump will follow through on, but california says it's ready to lead the resistance and during trump's last term, california had some big legal wins, like stopping his effort to end the daca program to protect children of immigrants and preventing trump from denying funds to sanctuary cities. we can expect similar battles between the golden state and the white house on issues of immigration, reproductive rights and climate change going forward. dan. >> okay, monica, thanks very much. president elect trump is adding two more familiar names to his administration. he selected ex and tesla ceo elon musk to lead the newly created department of government efficiency. musk will lead the department with former republican presidential candidate vivek ramaswamy. trump said in a statement musk and

ramaswamy will pave the way for his administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations and restructure federal agencies. >> a ruling in the airport name battle between oakland and san francisco. this afternoon, a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction blocking oakland from using the name san francisco bay oakland international airport. the judge agreed with san francisco's claims that the name change made last may violates sfo's trademark, and that the airport would suffer irreparable harm. the port of oakland, which operates the airport, claims the change was made to help identify oakland's airport with the bay area. >> tomorrow, the oakland board of education is expected to discuss a proposal to merge ten schools. the school is up for consideration already share campuses, meaning the students would not have to travel to another location if the proposal is approved. in a letter to the community, the superintendent said the changes will allow ousd to combine resources and staff

their brand new grass sod is being peeled up in the middle of the night. abc seven news anchor dion lim found it's all because of a common creature. it's hunting for food in a rather uncommon way. >> it was the worst part of my day. i would go outside and the whole yard would be totally wrecked. >> the mystery mess left in courtney kress's outer richmond backyard. >> we had just moved in. we fixed up the whole yard, put a

lot of work into it, and we're so happy that happy transformation from overgrown brush to green and lush, though, was short lived, all thanks to some special guests. >> they're fighting multiple raccoons, apparently approved of the new landscaping, or at least the grubs and worms to eat underneath the sod, which after getting put back, would get ripped up time and time again. >> almost every morning for a month, i would go outside and my fiance would either know if they came or not by my mood. when i came back in. >> this sod ripping isn't just at courtney's house. it happened at our very own dan ashley's home in walnut creek, half a dozen times in the last month. i spoke with a number of raccoon experts who tell me these animals have a keen sense of smell. in fact, they can smell food and trash from miles away. there might be another reason why you're seeing more of them in your neighborhood. >> they're very, very good mothers, and they do teach their young on different things, on how to forage for food, how to

surf. so right now wave heights are anywhere from 5 to 17ft. high surf advisory in effect until 6 a.m. tomorrow. watch out. dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. temperatures at this hour in the 50s and the 60s. here are live views from other tower cameras around the bay area and as you see this evening, we are seeing some clouds increasing ahead of that system. so here's a look at the headlines. high surf advisory, large breaking waves going into tomorrow morning. tomorrow rain arrives in the north bay, showers for other areas. and thursday and friday we do have occasional showers coming through our region. it is a light level one storm. on our exclusive abc seven news storm impact scale for tomorrow. rain will be steady in the north bay. showers elsewhere. breezy with the rough surf. so looking at the winds picking up out of the south. 1:00 in the afternoon, over 30 miles an hour along the coastline. that's where we're expecting the strongest winds as we head into the afternoon. 25 to about 32 miles an hour. here comes the wet weather first

thing in the morning at 11 a.m. it is in the north bay. starts to slide across other parts of the bay area. we'll go with scattered showers for the afternoon and the evening hours. so not everyone will measure rain per se, but i would keep the umbrella handy because on thursday we have more showers coming in. could even see a pop or two of thunderstorm activity across the region, and it's a 10% chance. but it's a chance for thursday. rainfall amounts will be highest in the northern part of our viewing area, about a third in santa rosa. three quarters in ukiah. you get down south and you barely measure. i mean, right now it's looking like 100th of an inch in san jose. looking at the sierra, we do have a winter storm watch for much of the southern sierra, and it's a winter weather advisory for the northern and central portion of the sierra, where the west slope is going under that advisory 10:00 tomorrow morning to 10 p.m. friday, half a foot to a foot of snow above 5500ft higher over the peaks. with those winds, it's going to be tough to get around, especially when we're looking at below pass level. so carry the chains. if
