5:12 am
it's just mostly cloudy. i think we stay dry all day today, as the front is too far to the north to bring us any sort of moisture. 67 there, but santa rosa we're in for rain and wind starting at about 9 a.m, lasting through about 3 p.m. so it will be the north bay that's dealing with the stormiest weather. looking at rainfall totals, you can see that to the north. that's where we find some of the steadier accumulations, probably a quarter of an inch, if not half an inch in several cities in the north bay. and then those numbers really drop off. so just some drizzle, mainly in the east bay and in the city and then in the south bay, just mostly cloudy and remaining dry. so highs today we'll hit about 64 in the city only 59 in santa rosa with that on and off rain, 67 in san jose with mostly cloudy skies, 65 the high in concord. the weekend forecast. gloria coming up in just a few minutes. >> all right drew. thank you. so much. oakland airpot stopped in its tracks after trying to rebrand itself. coming up, the legal win for san francisco, forcing immediate changes and cracking down on prostitution activity in the city. >> sfpd is new program, they

5:16 am
months. >> that's san francisco city attorney david chiu, who previously filed a lawsuit against oakland, saying the name change from metropolitan oakland international airport to san francisco bay oakland international airport infringed on the sfo trademark, specifically with the san francisco addition to the name. >> we've invested hundreds of millions of dollars in building this brand. oakland has infringed on the trademark, essentially trying to steal the brand uh, and that has real economic cost to our airport and our region. >> but is it really that confusing those with the city of san francisco? believe so. >> but personally, i think it's much ado about nothing. >> san francisco, oakland we're neighbors. we always need to work together, but there is no partnership between sfo and oakland international and the judge here ruled that the new name implies that there was some sort of connection. >> i understand that a lot of
5:17 am
the customers that fly through here are getting confused with the name, and people that have never been here. as soon as they see san francisco, they actually think san francisco. they don't just keep reading and see it's actually on the oakland side or whatever. >> i think they should just stick with oakland. we're in oakland and it makes it easier, especially when you're booking flights as to what comes next. >> after this preliminary injunction that's dependent on what action the port of oakland, the owner of the airport, takes if they try to save the name san francisco bay. in a statement, they said we are continuing to review the recent ruling and considering all available options. j.r. stone abc seven news. >> after ongoing complaints from san francisco residents about street prostitution, police are launching a program to crack down on the issue. it's called the dear john program, which allows people to report prostitution activity with photos. sfpd will verify and send letters with the photo to the registered owner of the vehicle involved. it serves as a
5:18 am
deterrent to those who are purchasing sex. >> importantly, people soliciting prostitution will not have the anonymity they desire when paying for sex. receiving a dear john letter may also cause some uncomfortable moments at home. >> this comes a couple of months after some residents sued the city, claiming that shotwell street had become an epicenter for prostitution. cement barriers were recently installed on the street, but have proven to be more of a hassle than a help. >> san francisco's health department has been criticized for not doing enough to encourage people to go into drug treatment programs, and it is now focusing on a different kind of recovery campaign. >> the purpose of this campaign is to educate people that treatment and support services are possible in san francisco, to help people with fentanyl addiction and other substance use disorders. >> now, those who have been have been through treatment will be featured on billboards to encourage others to seek help. the campaign features nine people in recovery who have
5:19 am
found success in treatment because of our addiction. >> we didn't know that i was pregnant until i was having our daughter paloma, and we knew instantly that our lives had to change for her sake. >> i'm certainly proof that recovery works. i know that, i know that i've been blessed with friends, colleagues, and people in my life that supports my recovery. >> it does work and treatment works, but we got today and tomorrow we got to work on it again. >> the living proof campaign coincides with the expansion of the city's treatment on demand program. >> tonight, san francisco's union square is getting in the christmas spirit with the annual great tree lighting ceremony. mayor london breed is expected to be at the celebration. thed massive christmas tree is lit up union square for over three decades. it's a symbolic start to the holiday season, and that tree lighting ceremony will start at 6 p.m. we know a lot of
5:20 am
people will go out there, and it just looks so beautiful when it's all lit up and the whole area decorated for the holidays, that the wreaths on macy's beautiful. >> and we have rain in the forecast, but at 6 p.m. it won't bother the city, so they'll be just fine for the tree lighting, but it will feel like winter out there. it feels chilly right now. we have temperatures in the 30s and in the 40s. we'll take you high above in sutro tower. we have good visibility right now, but the clouds are quickly rolling in from the north, so we have wednesday showers here on the accuweather headlines. rain, wind and rough surf. we'll get to the timeline in just a second. still, the chance of an isolated shower on thursday. but for most of us it's just a mix of sun and clouds. a dry pattern does prevail friday and into saturday, so some better news there on the abc seven storm impact scale is a level one today for scattered showers. highest totals in the north bay and does get breezy later on today. so here's future weather. let's time it out for you. no issues for the morning commute. it's dry with increasing clouds. by 1030, the rain is moving into the north bay closer to. 12:31 p.m. that's
5:21 am
when i think oakland san francisco have a chance of seeing an isolated shower. but you notice areas like san jose, san mateo, fremont. it's just a mostly cloudy day. i think this moisture is very limited and not making its way too far south today. by about 430, we're pretty much done with any steady rainfall. and then we just taper to a mix of sun and clouds to finish out the afternoon. so looking at rainfall totals there, you can see highest amounts certainly. well to our north the city maybe a 10th of an inch throughout the day, a quarter of an inch in santa rosa and you can see a big zero. that rain shadow in effect for the santa clara valley, as we see, just mostly cloudy skies today. so highs in the upper 50s to the upper 60s. cooler in the north bay with the rain. a little warmer in the south bay with mostly cloudy conditions overnight. tonight we'll stay partly cloudy and overnight lows in the upper 40s to the lower 50s. we do have a winter weather advisory in effect starting at 10 a.m. today we are going to see some snowfall later on this evening. enough to snarl some traffic, likely on 80
5:22 am
and 50, and then another round of snow coming our way friday night so we could see our highest peaks. likely a foot of fresh snow in the coming days. accuweather seven day forecast shows you we are tracking scattered showers today and isolated chance tomorrow. drier and brighter friday and saturday. perhaps an isolated evening shower sunday and then early next week full sunshine is back guys! >> all right drew thank you. coming up, the seven things to know this morning. >> nature making a nuisance across san francisco. see how raccoons are changing the
