nothing else. this situation is intolerable and must be handled quickly. >> members of the deputy sheriffs association taking a stand in the scandal happening in the san mateo county sheriff's office. this as the sheriff says she won't be backing down. good afternoon, i'm kristen z. >> and i'm julian glover. right now, the san mateo county board of supervisors is expected to hold that vote of no confidence in sheriff christina corpus. >> abc seven news reporter monica madden is live in redwood city, where that meeting is just getting underway. monica. >> good evening. kristen. we've already seen a lot of public interest in this. our colleague tim johns is inside and tells me there's dozens of people in that board room right now for the meeting. i just spoke to someone outside waiting to go in who said that this is a community that prides itself on having a good relationship with its law enforcement. so trust is absolutely critical. now, a lot has transpired in the last 24

hours, so we wanted to take a deeper look into how we got her. what's next for san mateo county sheriff christina corpus, now in the hands of district attorney stephen wagstaffe? >> we have not dealt with anything like this before, so it's unchartered waters. >> wagstaffe says now his office will review the accusations against corpus to determine if it amounts to violations of the law. >> this is a distraction from what we're trying to do and achieving justice and achieving care for our community. and i'm saddened that we have to deal with it. >> on tuesday, corpus fiercely denying all allegations and showing no signs of stepping down. >> i've done none of those things, but yet i'm being accused as if i've done some very egregious things. >> complaints inside her office prompted the july independent review of corpus, alleged misconduct. the 400 page report accuses the sheriff of abuse of power having an inappropriate relationship with her chief of staff, as well as using racist and homophobic language during the primary investigation.

>> the sheriff actually did not make herself available to the investigator. the real difference between what's about to happen and what's happened in the past is that from now on, discovery will be taken through the issuance of subpoenas. the sheriff will be compelled to speak to us under oath. >> it also accuses sheriff corpus of using intimidation and retaliation tactics. so you think there might be a pattern of retaliatory action on behalf of the sheriff? >> that was what the investigator found. >> county supervisor ray mueller says the report's findings are. >> we want to make sure that every san mateo county resident can have trust in their sheriff's office. >> the board cannot fire her as an elected official, but does have options other than waiting for a potential recall to be placed on a future ballot can bring a charter amendment before the public where we would go ahead and say to them, under these specific circumstances, you would go ahead and give the board the power to remove the sheriff. as for the possibility of charges against the sheriff, wagstaffe is asking for patience. >> prove these things beyond a reasonable doubt. if there is a

violation, and we want to make sure that we have that and we don't jump into the pool of political comment. >> now, just 30 minutes ago, we heard from the deputy sheriffs association who and they had a press conference to respond to the sheriff's remarks yesterday where she questioned the legitimacy of this report and the association. association was not pulling any punches. take a listen. >> i find it a little hard to believe that she would make the rest of us believe that someone who is as respected in her field, like judge cordell, would somehow have fabricated a 400 page report, which was prepared at taxpayer expense. i don't think that's plausible. i don't think that's reasonable. >> now, d.a. wagstaffe says he's expecting to see more than just a vote of no confidence in there. so perhaps we could be seeing action from the board regarding that charter amendment

seven news.com, or find it inside of our news app. >> now to a story we've been following for more than a year, a new effort by san francisco police aims to curb illegal sex work. >> abc seven news anchor dion lim is here with the unusual tactic that tries to shame the people hiring the sex workers. dion. yeah, julian. >> in san francisco's mission district, there have been multiple efforts to curb prostitution and sex trafficking in the past, but a combination of community assistance, new technology, and old fashioned letters aims to make a difference. >> hundreds of sex workers walking the streets that were pimps, johns. the traffic was bumper to bumper. >> prostitution problems have plagued certain san francisco neighborhoods for years, and efforts such as barriers to prevent the ac capp and shotwell streets have failed time and time again. >> i think they suck, and they're inconvenient. >> you may remember our coverage after these metal barriers were installed along capp street. not only did they cause confusion and increase illegal parking, you're going to get a ticket. they were eventually run over and destroyed as the plight of

the neighborhood reached a fever pitch. some even filed a lawsuit against the city for what they saw as inaction. >> i hope the city does something about it. >> which brings us to today and the effort launched by sfpd called the dear john letter program, an effort already being used in dozens of cities across the country, including oakland and los angeles. >> i want to talk directly to the people who are soliciting prostitution in our communities. >> here's how it works. community members first submit photos of alleged prostitution activity to an sfpd website. >> the sfpd will then issue a letter to the registered owner of the vehicle with the photograph. we hope this will be a deterrent in the sample letter provided to me by sfpd. >> recipients are reminded how solicitation is illegal and why it's harmful to the sex worker and the city. a photograph may also be attached, which may also serve another purpose. >> receiving a dear john letter may also cause some uncomfortable moments at home. >> sfpd tells me since the program soft launched a few weeks ago, several dozen letters have been sent out.

people to prepare for the worst. >> the sun may be shining, but when it comes to weather in santa clara county, we know that no matter how sunny and warm it might be out here today, just a few weeks from now, we may face very different conditions life threatening conditions we've seen in the south bay. year after year, major flooding events that put the community at risk. those years, we knew there was a strong potential for storms and rain, heavy atmospheric rivers. but this year, the national weather service says things are looking different. >> right now, the official forecast is what we call equal chances. the way i like to couch that, it's the meteorological equivalent of a shrug, like we just don't quite know. >> the last two winters, the national weather service could say with certainty when storms would hit the region this year, it will be more difficult to predict storms, so they will need to make predictions closer to the actual weather events making landfall. >> we're going to be anywhere from just below normal for the amount of precipitation for the

season, or near normal for the amount of precipitation for the season that said, all of that precipitation can come in 1 or 2 storms, and that's the reason we're talking about preparedness. >> and that work is already underway. while you may have been on vacation this summer, valley water wasn't. they were busy performing maintenance on creeks, rivers and streams to prevent flooding. but should water levels rise, that's where sandbags come into play for the community. on a dry year, we've used about 80,000 bags. >> on a dry year, it's 80,000. >> on a year like 2022 2023, when we had those big rain rainstorms, we actually used about 200,000 bags. >> valley water distributed 140,000 bags last year, and prepared to distribute to those who need it in the months ahead, the agency recommends packing your emergency kits now with all the essential items you'll need, and it's time to sign up for emergency weather alerts for your specific county. >> our climate is changing, and we all need to prepare for storms and the potential for floods. >> staying ready so you don't

have to get ready. the winter weather motto in san jose dustin dorsey, abc seven news. >> well, october was another unusually warm month across the globe, according to new data from the national oceanic and atmospheric administration, last month was the earth's second warmest october it's ever recorded. it was america's warmest october on record, with an average temperature of 59 degrees. about 12% of the world's surface had a record high month. >> well, it's feeling seasonably around here. and with that, that means rain is in the forecast, too. that's right. >> i mean, we could use it. so let's check it out. yeah. you know what? >> let's take a look at what has been happening. kristen and julian i'm going to show you the radar right now. and we're going to put this into motion because i think it really gives you an idea of what has been coming through here, which has been mainly light showers. some parts, like varnado, has picked up 7/10 of an inch of rain. san jose, not the airport, but one of the other san jose sites. about five hundredths

of an inch right now across 680 san ramon street level radar sycamore valley road. we are seeing a lone shower moving through. also very isolated right around silverado trail up in the north bay. so i would keep the umbrellas handy. as you see here, the front brought us the wet weather. it is bringing the sierra some snow, some rain to northern california. we're even seeing some peeks of blue from our walnut creek camera right now. 59 in the city it is in the 60s. oakland san jose, redwood city, half moon bay, 57 degrees, a live view from our kgo roof, camera and we've got a few lingering clouds right now. looking around the bay. temperatures in the 50s from santa rosa to concord to napa. and here's a live picture from our golden gate bridge camera. nice to see some fresh, clean air through tomorrow. occasional showers the next few days. we are talking about rough surf and king tides and the weekend outlook will be a sunny start, but rain by sunday evening. so let's look at the storm impact scale today and tomorrow. we'll keep it at a light level. one it's going to be

scattered showers, not all day today, but just occasional breezy conditions. large breakers and minor coastal flooding expected for tomorrow as we go hour by hour, keeping those showers pop up in the forecast 9:00. you will notice a couple of showers coming through 630 tomorrow morning. light to moderate showers crossing the east bay. parts of the peninsula nine 30th may even see a pop or two of thunderstorm activity. it's going to be the best chance is going to be in the north bay and it's a 10 to 15% chance, but we're keeping it in there just in the event that we do see it as we are going to see some sun breaks and that will help to destabilize the atmosphere. now friday, an isolated shower or two is not out of the question. early tomorrow morning you early friday morning. excuse me. you will notice that most of it will stay off the coastline on friday. now, looking at the rainfall projections additional a few hundredths of an inch in the southern part of our viewing area to about 4/10 in santa rosa through friday. as we look at the sierra, there's a winter weather advisory

until 10 p.m. friday. highest totals will be over the peaks, but 6 to 12in above 5500ft. that is really above below pass levels. so you're going to have to carry the chains. if you're heading up gusts to 45 and hazardous travel conditions are expected. 40s and 50s on your temperatures. first thing in the morning, there will be some spotty showers around well into the afternoon 50s and 60s. you'll see some sun breaks as well, and a high surf advisory goes up tomorrow morning to saturday morning. 12 to 18 foot breakers, dangerous swimming and surfing and king tides are coming up tomorrow morning through monday afternoon. we have the opportunity for some flooding due to those king tides, so keep that in mind. tomorrow's will be in the morning, almost seven feet. accuweather seven day level one tomorrow for those spotty showers we will get a brief break on saturday and another system greets us sunday evening. but after that, how about some milder weather? yeah, julian and kristen is going to be nice. >> we'll be ready by then. >> thank you. appreciate it.

including a massive fire in new york and new jersey. dry conditions are creating challenges for firefighters there who are working to get things under control. abc news reporter reena roy has our story. >> reporter the jennings creek fire blazing along the new york new jersey border, spanning 5000 acres with only 30% containment from the air. you can see this morning the flames inching closer to homes. >> this is horrifying because i don't. i have nowhere to go. where am i going to go? >> the largest in new york state since 2015. >> this fire alone has burned 2700 acres. and just a second fire has burned 700 acres.

day, a 4000 home community powered by data centers has been proposed. >> it's called a net zero community. abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes has more on what it could look like and how it could help build a better bay area. >> downtown san jose could be on track to have one of the most unique communities in the world. a community of more than 4000 homes with things like heat and hot water powered by data centers. it's called a net zero community, where we can both serve the needs of compute power and data centers, but make them net beneficial to the new housing units that are greatly in demand. that announcement was made wednesday at p-g-and-e's innovation summit in san jose. when our data is stored in the cloud, it sits in data centers. those data centers generate a lot of heat and in turn, greenhouse emissions. so instead of the extra heat going into the atmosphere, the net zero community would use it to heat and provide hot water to neighboring homes and businesse, something developer westbank says would set san jose apart

from any other city in the nation. >> in terms of actually utilizing the excess heat from a data center to provide energy to the downtown community. >> it's going to be the first one including a more affordable power bill. those behind the proposal say there's other benefits to creating this really vibrant downtown area that's going to be sustainable, and that's going to just really be able to drive not just the economic piece of it, but do it in a manner that's sustainable long term. three data centers are planned to be part of the community bringing the heat to the homes, according to the proposal, some of the first homes would be 110 rental units in the former bank of italy building. if things go according to plan, more units would be brought to downtown through the year 2031. >> we've also set ambitious goals around building more housing over 60,000 units over the next eight years, adding jobs. we want to continue to be an engine of economic growth and upward mobility for a very diverse population. the only way we can do all of those things together is through partnerships and innovation, like the one that was announced here today.

rain in the forecast. so as we take you back in time on live doppler seven, looping this, showing you the front that came through and brought us some wet weather. certainly the focus was on the north bay, but we have seen trace amounts even in the east bay. like hayward, oakland has picked up 100th of an inch. ben loman in the santa cruz mountains 900. so you will notice in the north bay, we're still dealing with showers. cloverdale. highway 101. right now, some spotty showers at this hour, so keep the umbrellas handy because we're not completely done yet. tomorrow afternoon, you're looking at highs ranging from the 50s to the 60s. occasional showers will pop up. and as we look ahead beyond tomorrow, friday, the sierra snow is going to continue that winter weather advisory until friday night. so carry chains if you're going up to the mountains, here comes our next storm that is on sunday evening and it will continue through late sunday night and then early monday. can't rule out a shower or two, but after that you get a chance to dry out and we'll see a lot more
